[1] I will stand at my watch and set myself on the ramparts, and will look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint. [2] Yahweh answered me, “Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it. [3] For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it, because it will surely come. It won’t delay. [4] Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith. [5] Yes, moreover, wine is treacherous: an arrogant man who doesn’t stay at home, who enlarges his desire as Sheol; he is like death and can’t be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations and heaps to himself all peoples. [6] Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’ [7] Won’t your debtors rise up suddenly, and wake up those who make you tremble, and you will be their victim? [8] Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples will plunder you because of men’s blood, and for the violence done to the land, to the city and to all who dwell in it. [9] Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil! [10] You have devised shame to your house by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul. [11] For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it. [12] Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity! [13] Behold, isn’t it from Yahweh of Armies that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity? [14] For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of Yahweh’s glory, as the waters cover the sea. [15] “Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink, pouring your inflaming wine until they are drunk, so that you may gaze at their naked bodies! [16] You are filled with shame, and not glory. You will also drink and be exposed! The cup of Yahweh’s right hand will come around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory. [17] For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and the destruction of the animals will terrify you, because of men’s blood and for the violence done to the land, to every city and to those who dwell in them. [18] “What value does the engraved image have, that its maker has engraved it; the molten image, even the teacher of lies, that he who fashions its form trusts in it, to make mute idols? [19] Woe to him who says to the wood, ‘Awake!’ or to the mute stone, ‘Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it. [20] But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!”

[1] I will standH5975(QalImpf) upon my watch,H4931 and setH3320(HithImpf) me upon the tower,H4692 and will watchH6822(PielImpf) to seeH7200(QalInf) what he will sayH1696(PielImpf) unto me, and what I shall answerH7725(HiphImpf) when I am reproved.H8433 [2] And the LordH3068 answeredH6030(QalImpf) me, and said,H559(QalImpf) WriteH3789(QalImpv) the vision,H2377 and make [it] plainH874(PielImpv) upon tables,H3871 that he may runH7323(QalImpf) that readethH7121(QalActPtc) it. [3] For the visionH2377 [is] yet for an appointed time,H4150 but at the endH7093 it shall speak,H6315(HiphImpf) and not lie:H3576(PielImpf) though it tarry,H4102(HippImpf) waitH2442(PielImpv) for it; because it will surelyH935(QalInf) come,H935(QalImpf) it will not tarry.H309(PielImpf) [4] Behold, his soulH5315 [which] is lifted upH6075(PualPerf) is not uprightH3474(QalPerf) in him: but the justH6662 shall liveH2421(QalImpf) by his faith.H530 [5] Yea also, because he transgressethH898(QalActPtc) by wine,H3196 [he is] a proudH3093 man,H1397 neither keepeth at home,H5115(QalImpf) who enlargethH7337(HiphPerf) his desireH5315 as hell,H7585 and [is] as death,H4194 and cannot be satisfied,H7646(QalImpf) but gatherethH622(QalImpf) unto him all nations,H1471 and heapethH6908(QalImpf) unto him all people:H5971 [6] Shall not all these take upH5375(QalImpf) a parableH4912 against him, and a tauntingH4426 proverbH2420 against him, and say,H559(QalImpf) WoeH1945 to him that increasethH7235(HiphPtc) [that which is] not his! how long? and to him that ladethH3513(HiphPtc) himself with thick clay!H5671 [7] Shall they not rise upH6965(QalImpf) suddenlyH6621 that shall biteH5391(QalActPtc) thee, and awakeH3364(QalImpf) that shall vexH2111(PilpPtc) thee, and thou shalt be for bootiesH4933 unto them? [8] Because thou hast spoiledH7997(QalPerf) manyH7227 nations,H1471 all the remnantH3499 of the peopleH5971 shall spoilH7997(QalImpf) thee; because of men’sH120 blood,H1818 and [for] the violenceH2555 of the land,H776 of the city,H7151 and of all that dwellH3427(QalActPtc) therein. [9] WoeH1945 to him that covetethH1214(QalActPtc) an evilH7451 covetousnessH1215 to his house,H1004 that he may setH7760(QalInf) his nestH7064 on high,H4791 that he may be deliveredH5337(NiphInf) from the powerH3709 of evil!H7451 [10] Thou hast consultedH3289(QalPerf) shameH1322 to thy houseH1004 by cutting offH7096(QalInf) manyH7227 people,H5971 and hast sinnedH2398(QalActPtc) [against] thy soul.H5315 [11] For the stoneH68 shall cry outH2199(QalImpf) of the wall,H7023 and the beam outH3714 of the timberH6086 shall answerH6030(QalImpf) it. [12] WoeH1945 to him that buildethH1129(QalActPtc) a townH5892 with blood,H1818 and stablishethH3559(PolePerf) a cityH7151 by iniquity!H5766 [13] Behold, [is it] not of the LordH3068 of hostsH6635 that the peopleH5971 shall labourH3021(QalImpf) in the veryH1767 fire,H784 and the peopleH3816 shall wearyH3286(QalImpf) themselves for veryH1767 vanity?H7385 [14] For the earthH776 shall be filledH4390(NiphImpf) with the knowledgeH3045(QalInf) of the gloryH3519 of the Lord,H3068 as the watersH4325 coverH3680(PielImpf) the sea.H3220 [15] WoeH1945 unto him that giveth his neighbourH7453 drink,H8248(HiphPtc) that puttestH5596(PielPtc) thy bottleH2573 to [him], and makest [him] drunkenH7937(PielInf) also, that thou mayest lookH5027(HiphInf) on their nakedness!H4589 [16] Thou art filledH7646(QalPerf) with shameH7036 for glory:H3519 drinkH8354(QalImpv) thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered:H6188(NiphImpv) the cupH3563 of the Lord’sH3068 right handH3225 shall be turnedH5437(NiphImpf) unto thee, and shameful spewingH7022 [shall be] on thy glory.H3519 [17] For the violenceH2555 of LebanonH3844 shall coverH3680(PielImpf) thee, and the spoilH7701 of beasts,H929 [which] made them afraid,H2865(HiphImpf) because of men’sH120 blood,H1818 and for the violenceH2555 of the land,H776 of the city,H7151 and of all that dwellH3427(QalActPtc) therein. [18] What profitethH3276(HiphPerf) the graven imageH6459 that the makerH3335(QalActPtc) thereof hath gravenH6458(QalPerf) it; the molten image,H4541 and a teacherH3384(HiphPtc) of lies,H8267 that the makerH3335(QalActPtc) of his workH3336 trustethH982(QalPerf) therein, to makeH6213(QalInf) dumbH483 idols?H457 [19] WoeH1945 unto him that saithH559(QalActPtc) to the wood,H6086 Awake;H6974(HiphImpv) to the dumbH1748 stone,H68 Arise,H5782(QalImpv) it shall teach!H3384(HiphImpf) Behold, it [is] laidH8610(QalPasPtc) over with goldH2091 and silver,H3701 and [there is] no breathH7307 at all in the midstH7130 of it. [20] But the LordH3068 [is] in his holyH6944 temple:H1964 let all the earthH776 keep silenceH2013(PielImpv) beforeH6440 him.
