King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to answer these people?”

They replied, “If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them with good words, then they will be your servants forever.”

και ελαλησαν προς αυτον λεγοντες ει εν τη ημερα ταυτη εση δουλος τω λαω τουτω και δουλευσης αυτοις και λαλησης αυτοις λογους αγαθους και εσονται σοι δουλοι πασας τας ημερας

He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may answer these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”

και ειπεν αυτοις τι υμεις συμβουλευετε και τι αποκριθω τω λαω τουτω τοις λαλησασιν προς με λεγοντων κουφισον απο του κλοιου ου εδωκεν ο πατηρ σου εφ ημας

So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about from Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.

But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

‘Yahweh says, “You shall not go up or fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is from me.”’” So they listened to Yahweh’s word, and returned and went their way, according to Yahweh’s word.

He cried against the altar by Yahweh’s word, and said, “Altar! Altar! Yahweh says: ‘Behold, a son will be born to David’s house, Josiah by name. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men’s bones on you.’”

και επεκαλεσεν προς το θυσιαστηριον εν λογω κυριου και ειπεν θυσιαστηριον θυσιαστηριον ταδε λεγει κυριος ιδου υιος τικτεται τω οικω δαυιδ ιωσιας ονομα αυτω και θυσει επι σε τους ιερεις των υψηλων τους επιθυοντας επι σε και οστα ανθρωπων καυσει επι σε

When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.

And it came to pass, when king H4428 Jeroboam H3379 heard H8085 (QalInf) the saying H1697 of the man H376 of God, H430 which had cried H7121 (QalPerf) against the altar H4196 in Beth-el, H1008 that he put forth H7971 (QalImpf) his hand H3027 from the altar, H4196 saying, H559 (QalInf) Lay hold H8610 (QalImpv) on him. And his hand, H3027 which he put forth H7971 (QalPerf) against him, dried up, H3001 (QalImpf) so that he could H3201 (QalPerf) not pull it in again H7725 (HiphInf) to him.

και εγενετο ως ηκουσεν ο βασιλευς ιεροβοαμ των λογων του ανθρωπου του θεου του επικαλεσαμενου επι το θυσιαστηριον το εν βαιθηλ και εξετεινεν ο βασιλευς την χειρα αυτου απο του θυσιαστηριου λεγων συλλαβετε αυτον και ιδου εξηρανθη η χειρ αυτου ην εξετεινεν επ αυτον και ουκ ηδυνηθη επιστρεψαι αυτην προς εαυτον

The altar was also split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by Yahweh’s word.

και το θυσιαστηριον ερραγη και εξεχυθη η πιοτης απο του θυσιαστηριου κατα το τερας ο εδωκεν ο ανθρωπος του θεου εν λογω κυριου

for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’”

οτι ουτως ενετειλατο μοι εν λογω κυριος λεγων μη φαγης αρτον και μη πιης υδωρ και μη επιστρεψης εν τη οδω η επορευθης εν αυτη

Now an old prophet lived in Bethel, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.

και προφητης εις πρεσβυτης κατωκει εν βαιθηλ και ερχονται οι υιοι αυτου και διηγησαντο αυτω απαντα τα εργα α εποιησεν ο ανθρωπος του θεου εν τη ημερα εκεινη εν βαιθηλ και τους λογους ους ελαλησεν τω βασιλει και επεστρεψαν το προσωπον του πατρος αυτων

For it was said to me by Yahweh’s word, ‘You shall eat no bread or drink water there, and don’t turn again to go by the way that you came.’”

1 Kings 13:17 Heb. a word was

οτι ουτως εντεταλται μοι εν λογω κυριος λεγων μη φαγης αρτον εκει και μη πιης υδωρ εκει και μη επιστρεψης εν τη οδω η επορευθης εν αυτη

He said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are; and an angel spoke to me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” He lied to him.

As they sat at the table, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet who brought him back;

και εγενετο αυτων καθημενων επι της τραπεζης και εγενετο λογος κυριου προς τον προφητην τον επιστρεψαντα αυτον

When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God who was disobedient to Yahweh’s word. Therefore Yahweh has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke to him.”

For the saying which he cried by Yahweh’s word against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely happen.”

After this thing, Jeroboam didn’t turn from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places.

This thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off and to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.

Yahweh said to Ahijah, “Behold, Jeroboam’s wife is coming to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. Tell her such and such; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman.”

All Israel will mourn for him and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

And all Israel H3478 shall mourn H5594 (QalPerf) for him, and bury H6912 (QalPerf) him: for he only of Jeroboam H3379 shall come H935 (QalImpf) to the grave, H6913 because in him there is found H4672 (NiphPerf) some good H2896 thing H1697 toward the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478 in the house H1004 of Jeroboam. All Israel buried him and mourned for him, according to Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

και τα λοιπα των λογων βαασα και παντα α εποιησεν και αι δυναστειαι αυτου ουκ ιδου ταυτα γεγραμμενα εν βιβλιω λογων των ημερων των βασιλεων ισραηλ

Moreover Yahweh’s word came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he struck him.

And also by the hand H3027 of the prophet H5030 Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Hanani H2607 came the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 against Baasha, H1201 and against his house, H1004 even for all the evil H7451 that he did H6213 (QalPerf) in the sight H5869 of the Lord, H3068 in provoking him to anger H3707 (HiphInf) with the work H4639 of his hands, H3027 in being like the house H1004 of Jeroboam; H3379 and because he killed H5221 (HiphPerf) him.
