The men arose and went. Joshua commanded those who went to survey the land, saying, “Go walk through the land, survey it, and come again to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh in Shiloh.”

και ανασταντες οι ανδρες επορευθησαν και ενετειλατο ιησους τοις ανδρασιν τοις πορευομενοις χωροβατησαι την γην λεγων πορευεσθε και χωροβατησατε την γην και παραγενηθητε προς με και ωδε εξοισω υμιν κληρον εναντι κυριου εν σηλω

Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Yahweh. There Joshua divided the land to the children of Israel according to their divisions.

And Joshua H3091 cast H7993 (HiphImpf) lots H1486 for them in Shiloh H7887 before H6440 the Lord: H3068 and there Joshua H3091 divided H2505 (PielImpf) the land H776 unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478 according to their divisions. H4256

και ενεβαλεν αυτοις ιησους κληρον εν σηλω εναντι κυριου

The border extended, and turned around on the west quarter southward, from the mountain that lies before Beth Horon southward; and ended at Kiriath Baal (also called Kiriath Jearim), a city of the children of Judah. This was the west quarter.

The border went down to the farthest part of the mountain that lies before the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is in the valley of Rephaim northward. It went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite southward, and went down to En Rogel.

Their border went up westward, even to Maralah, and reached to Dabbesheth. It reached to the brook that is before Jokneam.

γωλα ορια αυτων η θαλασσα και μαραγελλα και συναψει επι βαιθαραβα εις την φαραγγα η εστιν κατα προσωπον ιεκμαν

These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance by lot in Shiloh before Yahweh, at the door of the Tent of Meeting. So they finished dividing the land.

αυται αι διαιρεσεις ας κατεκληρονομησεν ελεαζαρ ο ιερευς και ιησους ο του ναυη και οι αρχοντες των πατριων εν ταις φυλαις ισραηλ κατα κληρους εν σηλω εναντιον κυριου παρα τας θυρας της σκηνης του μαρτυριου και επορευθησαν εμβατευσαι την γην

He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days. Then the man slayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city he fled from.’ ”

These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the alien who lives among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands trial before the congregation.

αυται αι πολεις αι επικλητοι τοις υιοις ισραηλ και τω προσηλυτω τω προσκειμενω εν αυτοις καταφυγειν εκει παντι παιοντι ψυχην ακουσιως ινα μη αποθανη εν χειρι του αγχιστευοντος το αιμα εως αν καταστη εναντι της συναγωγης εις κρισιν

Yahweh gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. Not a man of all their enemies stood before them. Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand.

but it will be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may perform the service of Yahweh before him with our burnt offerings, with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings;’ that your children may not tell our children in time to come, ‘You have no portion in Yahweh.’

αλλ ινα η τουτο μαρτυριον ανα μεσον ημων και υμων και ανα μεσον των γενεων ημων μεθ ημας του λατρευειν λατρειαν κυριω εναντιον αυτου εν τοις καρπωμασιν ημων και εν ταις θυσιαις ημων και εν ταις θυσιαις των σωτηριων ημων και ουκ ερουσιν τα τεκνα υμων τοις τεκνοις ημων αυριον ουκ εστιν υμιν μερις κυριου

“Far be it from us that we should rebel against Yahweh, and turn away today from following Yahweh, to build an altar for burnt offering, for meal offering, or for sacrifice, besides Yahweh our God’s altar that is before his tabernacle!”

God forbid H2486 that we should rebel H4775 (QalInf) against the Lord, H3068 and turn H7725 (QalInf) this day H3117 from following H310 the Lord, H3068 to build H1129 (QalInf) an altar H4196 for burnt offerings, H5930 for meat offerings, H4503 or for sacrifices, H2077 beside the altar H4196 of the Lord H3068 our God H430 that is before H6440 his tabernacle. H4908

μη γενοιτο ουν ημας αποστραφηναι απο κυριου εν ταις σημερον ημεραις αποστηναι απο κυριου ωστε οικοδομησαι ημας θυσιαστηριον τοις καρπωμασιν και ταις θυσιαις σαλαμιν και τη θυσια του σωτηριου πλην του θυσιαστηριου κυριου ο εστιν εναντιον της σκηνης αυτου

You have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations because of you; for it is Yahweh your God who has fought for you.

and ye have seen H7200 (QalPerf) all that the Lord H3068 your God H430 hath done H6213 (QalPerf) unto all these nations H1471 because H6440 of you; for the Lord H3068 your God H430 is he that hath fought H3898 (NiphPtc) for you.

υμεις δε εωρακατε οσα εποιησεν κυριος ο θεος υμων πασιν τοις εθνεσιν τουτοις απο προσωπου υμων οτι κυριος ο θεος υμων ο εκπολεμησας υμιν

Yahweh your God will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. You shall possess their land, as Yahweh your God spoke to you.

And the Lord H3068 your God, H430 he shall expel H1920 (QalImpf) them from before H6440 you, and drive H3423 (HiphPerf) them from out of your sight; H6440 and ye shall possess H3423 (QalPerf) their land, H776 as the Lord H3068 your God H430 hath promised H1696 (PielPerf) unto you.

κυριος δε ο θεος υμων ουτος εξολεθρευσει αυτους απο προσωπου υμων εως αν απολωνται και αποστελει αυτοις τα θηρια τα αγρια εως αν εξολεθρευση αυτους και τους βασιλεις αυτων απο προσωπου υμων και κατακληρονομησατε την γην αυτων καθα ελαλησεν κυριος ο θεος υμων υμιν

“For Yahweh has driven great and strong nations out from before you. But as for you, no man has stood before you to this day.

For the Lord H3068 hath driven out^§ H3423 (HiphImpf) from before H6440 you great H1419 nations H1471 and strong: H6099 but as for you, no man H376 hath been able to stand H5975 (QalPerf) before H6440 you unto this day. H3117

Joshua 23:9 Or, Then the LORD will drive

και εξωλεθρευσεν αυτους κυριος απο προσωπου υμων εθνη μεγαλα και ισχυρα και υμιν ουθεις αντεστη κατενωπιον υμων εως της ημερας ταυτης

know for a certainty that Yahweh your God will no longer drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap to you, a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you.

know H3045 (QalImpf) for a certainty H3045 (QalInf) that the Lord H3068 your God H430 will no more H3254 (HiphImpf) drive out H3423 (HiphInf) any of these nations H1471 from before H6440 you; but they shall be snares H6341 and traps H4170 unto you, and scourges H7850 in your sides, H6654 and thorns H6796 in your eyes, H5869 until ye perish H6 (QalInf) from off this good H2896 land H127 which the Lord H3068 your God H430 hath given H5414 (QalPerf) you.

γινωσκετε οτι ου μη προσθη κυριος του εξολεθρευσαι τα εθνη ταυτα απο προσωπου υμων και εσονται υμιν εις παγιδας και εις σκανδαλα και εις ηλους εν ταις πτερναις υμων και εις βολιδας εν τοις οφθαλμοις υμων εως αν απολησθε απο της γης της αγαθης ταυτης ην εδωκεν υμιν κυριος ο θεος υμων

Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, for their heads, for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

και συνηγαγεν ιησους πασας φυλας ισραηλ εις σηλω και συνεκαλεσεν τους πρεσβυτερους αυτων και τους γραμματεις αυτων και τους δικαστας αυτων και εστησεν αυτους απεναντι του θεου

και ηγαγεν υμας εις γην αμορραιων των κατοικουντων περαν του ιορδανου και παρεταξαντο υμιν και παρεδωκεν αυτους κυριος εις τας χειρας υμων και κατεκληρονομησατε την γην αυτων και εξωλεθρευσατε αυτους απο προσωπου υμων

I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; not with your sword, nor with your bow.

Yahweh drove out from before us all the peoples, even the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve Yahweh; for he is our God.”

Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron. (The name of Hebron before that was Kiriath Arba.) They struck Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

And Judah H3063 went H3212 (QalImpf) against the Canaanites H3669 that dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) in Hebron: H2275 (now the name H8034 of Hebron H2275 before H6440 was Kirjath-arba:) H7153 and they slew H5221 (HiphImpf) Sheshai, H8344 and Ahiman, H289 and Talmai. H8526

From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (The name of Debir before that was Kiriath Sepher.)

και επορευθησαν εκειθεν προς τους κατοικουντας δαβιρ και το ονομα δαβιρ ην εμπροσθεν πολις γραμματων

The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (The name of the city before that was Luz.)

και παρενεβαλον οικος ισραηλ κατα βαιθηλ το δε ονομα της πολεως ην εμπροσθεν λουζα

Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’ ”

Wherefore I also said, H559 (QalPerf) I will not drive them out H1644 (PielImpf) from before H6440 you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, H6654 and their gods H430 shall be a snare H4170 unto you.

και εγω ειπα ου προσθησω του μετοικισαι τον λαον ον ειπα του εξολεθρευσαι αυτους εκ προσωπου υμων και εσονται υμιν εις συνοχας και οι θεοι αυτων εσονται υμιν εις σκανδαλον

Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

And the anger H639 of the Lord H3068 was hot H2734 (QalImpf) against Israel, H3478 and he delivered H5414 (QalImpf) them into the hands H3027 of spoilers H8154 (QalActPtc) that spoiled H8155 (QalImpf) them, and he sold H4376 (QalImpf) them into the hands H3027 of their enemies H341 (QalActPtc) round about, H5439 so that they could H3201 (QalPerf) not any longer H5750 stand H5975 (QalInf) before H6440 their enemies. και ωργισθη θυμω κυριος τω ισραηλ και παρεδωκεν αυτους εν χειρι προνομευοντων και επρονομευσαν αυτους και απεδοτο αυτους εν χειρι των εχθρων αυτων κυκλοθεν και ουκ ηδυνασθησαν αντιστηναι κατα προσωπον των εχθρων αυτων

When Yahweh raised up judges for them, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.

And when the Lord H3068 raised H6965 (HiphPerf) them up judges, H8199 (QalActPtc) then the Lord H3068 was with the judge, H8199 (QalActPtc) and delivered H3467 (HiphPerf) them out of the hand H3027 of their enemies H341 (QalActPtc) all the days H3117 of the judge: H8199 (QalActPtc) for it repented H5162 (NiphImpf) the Lord H3068 because H6440 of their groanings H5009 by reason of them that oppressed H3905 (QalPtc) them and vexed H1766 (QalActPtc) them.

και οτι ηγειρεν αυτοις κυριος κριτας και ην κυριος μετα του κριτου και εσωσεν αυτους εκ χειρος των εχθρων αυτων πασας τας ημερας του κριτου οτι παρεκληθη κυριος απο του στεναγμου αυτων απο προσωπου των πολιορκουντων αυτους και κακουντων αυτους

I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them;

I also will not henceforth H3254 (HiphImpf) drive out H3423 (HiphInf) any H376 from before H6440 them of the nations H1471 which Joshua H3091 left H5800 (QalPerf) when he died: H4191 (QalImpf)

και εγω ου προσθησω του εξαραι ανδρα εκ προσωπου αυτων απο των εθνων ων κατελιπεν ιησους και αφηκεν

only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at least those who knew nothing of it before:

πλην δια τας γενεας των υιων ισραηλ του διδαξαι αυτους πολεμον πλην οι εμπροσθεν αυτων ουκ εγνωσαν αυτα

When he had come, he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he led them.

και εγενετο ηνικα ηλθεν και εσαλπισεν κερατινη εν ορει εφραιμ και κατεβησαν συν αυτω οι υιοι ισραηλ και αυτος εμπροσθεν αυτων

Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which Yahweh has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t Yahweh gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

και ειπεν δεββωρα προς βαρακ αναστηθι οτι αυτη η ημερα εν η παρεδωκεν κυριος τον σισαρα εν χειρι σου ουκ ιδου κυριος ελευσεται εμπροσθεν σου και κατεβη βαρακ απο του ορους θαβωρ και δεκα χιλιαδες ανδρων οπισω αυτου

Yahweh confused Sisera, all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak. Sisera abandoned his chariot and fled away on his feet.

And the Lord H3068 discomfited H2000 (QalImpf) Sisera, H5516 and all his chariots, H7393 and all his host, H4264 with the edge H6310 of the sword H2719 before H6440 Barak; H1301 so that Sisera H5516 lighted down H3381 (QalImpf) off his chariot, H4818 and fled away H5127 (QalImpf) on his feet. και εξεστησεν κυριος τον σισαρα και παντα τα αρματα αυτου και πασαν την παρεμβολην αυτου εν στοματι ρομφαιας ενωπιον βαρακ και κατεβη σισαρα απο του αρματος αυτου και εφυγεν τοις ποσιν αυτου

So God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel on that day.

και εταπεινωσεν κυριος ο θεος τον ιαβιν βασιλεα χανααν εν τη ημερα εκεινη ενωπιον υιων ισραηλ

The mountains quaked at Yahweh’s presence, even Sinai at the presence of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

ορη εσαλευθησαν απο προσωπου κυριου τουτο σινα απο προσωπου κυριου θεου ισραηλ

The hand of Midian prevailed against Israel; and because of Midian the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, the caves, and the strongholds.

Judges 6:2 Heb. was strong

και κατισχυσεν χειρ μαδιαμ επι ισραηλ και εποιησαν εαυτοις οι υιοι ισραηλ απο προσωπου μαδιαμ μανδρας εν τοις ορεσιν και τοις σπηλαιοις και τοις οχυρωμασιν

Yahweh’s angel came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press, to hide it from the Midianites.

Won’t you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever Yahweh our God has dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.

Manoah said to Yahweh’s angel, “Please stay with us, that we may make a young goat ready for you.”
