Saul asked counsel of God: “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.

Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, The Lord H3068 hath rent H7167 (QalPerf) the kingdom H4468 of Israel H3478 from thee this day, H3117 and hath given H5414 (QalPerf) it to a neighbour H7453 of thine, that is better H2896 than thou.

και ειπεν προς αυτον σαμουηλ διερρηξεν κυριος την βασιλειαν ισραηλ εκ χειρος σου σημερον και δωσει αυτην τω πλησιον σου τω αγαθω υπερ σε

The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel today! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”

και ειπεν ο αλλοφυλος ιδου εγω ωνειδισα την παραταξιν ισραηλ σημερον εν τη ημερα ταυτη δοτε μοι ανδρα και μονομαχησομεν αμφοτεροι

The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”

Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of bronze on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.

The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and to the animals of the field.”

Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines today to the birds of the sky and to the wild animals of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

Saul took him that day, and wouldn’t let him go home to his father’s house any more.

Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David with his clothing, even including his sword, his bow, and his sash.

Then David inquired of Yahweh yet again. Yahweh answered him, and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”

David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand.

David’s men said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.

Yahweh will give to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.

και ειπεν δαυιδ προς αγχους ει δη ευρηκεν ο δουλος σου χαριν εν οφθαλμοις σου δοτωσαν δη μοι τοπον εν μια των πολεων των κατ αγρον και καθησομαι εκει και ινα τι καθηται ο δουλος σου εν πολει βασιλευομενη μετα σου

Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.

Yahweh has done to you as he spoke by me. Yahweh has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, even to David.

και πεποιηκεν κυριος σοι καθως ελαλησεν εν χειρι μου και διαρρηξει κυριος την βασιλειαν σου εκ χειρος σου και δωσει αυτην τω πλησιον σου τω δαυιδ

Moreover Yahweh will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Yahweh will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.”

Moreover the Lord H3068 will also deliver H5414 (QalImpf) Israel H3478 with thee into the hand H3027 of the Philistines: H6430 and to morrow H4279 shalt thou and thy sons H1121 be with me: the Lord H3068 also shall deliver H5414 (QalImpf) the host H4264 of Israel H3478 into the hand H3027 of the Philistines. και παραδωσει κυριος τον ισραηλ μετα σου εις χειρας αλλοφυλων και αυριον συ και οι υιοι σου μετα σου πεσουνται και την παρεμβολην ισραηλ δωσει κυριος εις χειρας αλλοφυλων

They found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink.

Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”

και απεκριθη πας ανηρ λοιμος και πονηρος των ανδρων των πολεμιστων των πορευθεντων μετα δαυιδ και ειπαν οτι ου κατεδιωξαν μεθ ημων ου δωσομεν αυτοις εκ των σκυλων ων εξειλαμεθα οτι αλλ η εκαστος την γυναικα αυτου και τα τεκνα αυτου απαγεσθωσαν και αποστρεφετωσαν

Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

και εξαπεστειλεν δαυιδ προς μεμφιβοσθε υιον σαουλ αγγελους λεγων αποδος μοι την γυναικα μου την μελχολ ην ελαβον εν εκατον ακροβυστιαις αλλοφυλων

They brought the head of Ishbosheth to David to Hebron, and said to the king, “Behold, the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life! Yahweh has avenged my lord the king today of Saul and of his offspring.”^§

και ηνεγκαν την κεφαλην μεμφιβοσθε τω δαυιδ εις χεβρων και ειπαν προς τον βασιλεα ιδου η κεφαλη μεμφιβοσθε υιου σαουλ του εχθρου σου ος εζητει την ψυχην σου και εδωκεν κυριος τω κυριω βασιλει εκδικησιν των εχθρων αυτου ως η ημερα αυτη εκ σαουλ του εχθρου σου και εκ του σπερματος αυτου

when someone told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ thinking that he brought good news, I seized him and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.

Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master’s son.

When Joab kept watch on the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.

“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
