they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

“Come up to me and help me. Let’s strike Gibeon; for they have made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.”

δευτε αναβητε προς με και βοηθησατε μοι και εκπολεμησωμεν γαβαων αυτομολησαν γαρ προς ιησουν και προς τους υιους ισραηλ

The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”

Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.”

και ουκ εγενετο ημερα τοιαυτη ουδε το προτερον ουδε το εσχατον ωστε επακουσαι θεον ανθρωπου οτι κυριος συνεπολεμησεν τω ισραηλ

but don’t stay there. Pursue your enemies, and attack them from the rear. Don’t allow them to enter into their cities; for Yahweh your God has delivered them into your hand.”

υμεις δε μη εστηκατε καταδιωκοντες οπισω των εχθρων υμων και καταλαβετε την ουραγιαν αυτων και μη αφητε εισελθειν εις τας πολεις αυτων παρεδωκεν γαρ αυτους κυριος ο θεος ημων εις τας χειρας ημων

Joshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous, for Yahweh will do this to all your enemies against whom you fight.”

Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time because Yahweh, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword; for Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms.

και απεστραφη ιησους εν τω καιρω εκεινω και κατελαβετο ασωρ και τον βασιλεα αυτης ην δε ασωρ το προτερον αρχουσα πασων των βασιλειων τουτων

For it was of Yahweh to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. They gave no portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and for their property.

Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where you walked shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed Yahweh my God.’

Now therefore give me this hill country, of which Yahweh spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and great and fortified cities. It may be that Yahweh will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Yahweh said.”

She said, “Give me a blessing. Because you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

because the daughters H1323 of Manasseh H4519 had H5157 (QalPerf) an inheritance H5159 among H8432 his sons: H1121 and the rest H3498 (NiphPtc) of Manasseh’s H4519 sons H1121 had the land H776 of Gilead. H1568

When the children of Israel had grown strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out.

Joshua said to them, “If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest, and clear land for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.”

And Joshua H3091 answered H559 (QalImpf) them, If thou be a great H7227 people, H5971 then get thee up H5927 (QalImpv) to the wood H3293 country, and cut down H1254 (PielPerf) for thyself there in the land H776 of the Perizzites H6522 and of the giants,^§ H7497 if mount H2022 Ephraim H669 be too narrow H213 (QalPerf) for thee.

Joshua 17:15 Or, Rephaims

και ειπεν αυτοις ιησους ει λαος πολυς ει αναβηθι εις τον δρυμον και εκκαθαρον σεαυτω ει στενοχωρει σε το ορος το εφραιμ

but the hill country shall be yours. Although it is a forest, you shall cut it down, and it’s farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.”

but the mountain H2022 shall be thine; for it is a wood, H3293 and thou shalt cut it down: H1254 (PielPerf) and the outgoings H8444 of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out H3423 (HiphImpf) the Canaanites, H3669 though they have iron H1270 chariots, H7393 and though they be strong. H2389

But the Levites H3881 have no part H2506 among H7130 you; for the priesthood H3550 of the Lord H3068 is their inheritance: H5159 and Gad, H1410 and Reuben, H7205 and half H2677 the tribe H7626 of Manasseh, H4519 have received H3947 (QalPerf) their inheritance H5159 beyond H5676 Jordan H3383 on the east, H4217 which Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the Lord H3068 gave H5414 (QalPerf) them.

Out of the part of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon; for the portion of the children of Judah was too much for them. Therefore the children of Simeon had inheritance in the middle of their inheritance.

Out of the portion H2256 of the children H1121 of Judah H3063 was the inheritance H5159 of the children H1121 of Simeon: H8095 for the part H2506 of the children H1121 of Judah H3063 was too much H7227 for them: therefore the children H1121 of Simeon H8095 had their inheritance H5157 (QalImpf) within H8432 the inheritance H5159 of them.

If the avenger of blood pursues him, then they shall not deliver up the man slayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him before.

but it will be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may perform the service of Yahweh before him with our burnt offerings, with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings;’ that your children may not tell our children in time to come, ‘You have no portion in Yahweh.’

αλλ ινα η τουτο μαρτυριον ανα μεσον ημων και υμων και ανα μεσον των γενεων ημων μεθ ημας του λατρευειν λατρειαν κυριω εναντιον αυτου εν τοις καρπωμασιν ημων και εν ταις θυσιαις ημων και εν ταις θυσιαις των σωτηριων ημων και ουκ ερουσιν τα τεκνα υμων τοις τεκνοις ημων αυριον ουκ εστιν υμιν μερις κυριου

“Therefore we said, ‘It shall be, when they tell us or our generations this in time to come, that we shall say, “Behold the pattern of Yahweh’s altar, which our fathers made, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you.”’

If you forsake Yahweh, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you evil, and consume you, after he has done you good.”

The people said to Joshua, “No, but we will serve Yahweh.”
