“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 Behold, I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) evil H7451 upon this place, H4725 and upon the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) thereof, [even] all the words H1697 of the book H5612 which the king H4428 of Judah H3063 hath read: H7121 (QalPerf)

ταδε λεγει κυριος ιδου εγω επαγω κακα επι τον τοπον τουτον και επι τους ενοικουντας αυτον παντας τους λογους του βιβλιου ους ανεγνω βασιλευς ιουδα

The king went up to Yahweh’s house, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him—with the priests, the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in Yahweh’s house.

As Josiah turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to Yahweh’s word which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

Then he said, H559 (QalImpf) What title H6725 [is] that H1975 that I see? H7200 (QalActPtc) And the men H582 of the city H5892 told H559 (QalImpf) him, [It is] the sepulchre H6913 of the man H376 of God, H430 which came H935 (QalPerf) from Judah, H3063 and proclaimed H7121 (QalImpf) these things H1697 that thou hast done H6213 (QalPerf) against the altar H4196 of Bethel. Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez,° saying, “Because I bore him with sorrow.”

1 Chronicles 4:9 “Jabez” sounds similar to the Hebrew word for “pain”.

And Jabez H3258 was more honourable H3513 (NiphPtc) than his brethren: H251 and his mother H517 called H7121 (QalPerf) his name H8034 Jabez, H3258 saying, H559 (QalInf) Because I bare H3205 (QalPerf) him with sorrow. H6090

και ην ιγαβης ενδοξος υπερ τους αδελφους αυτου και η μητηρ εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου ιγαβης λεγουσα ετεκον ως γαβης

Jabez called on the God^§ of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” God granted him that which he requested.

They gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities which are mentioned by name.

Maacah the wife of Machir bore a son, and she named him Peresh. The name of his brother was Sheresh; and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

He went in to his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and he named him Beriah,° because there was trouble with his house.

1 Chronicles 7:23 “Beriah” is similar to the Hebrew word for “misfortune”.

David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it David’s city.

David went up with all Israel to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there God Yahweh’s ark that sits above the cherubim, that is called by the Name.

And David H1732 went up, H5927 (QalImpf) and all Israel, H3478 to Baalah, H1173 [that is], to Kirjathjearim, H7157 which [belonged] to Judah, H3063 to bring up H5927 (HiphInf) thence the ark H727 of God H430 the Lord, H3068 that dwelleth H3427 (QalActPtc) [between] the cherubims, H3742 whose name H8034 is called H7121 (NiphPerf) [on it].

David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzza. He called that place Perez Uzza, to this day.

And David H1732 was displeased, H2734 (QalImpf) because the Lord H3068 had made H6555 (QalPerf) a breach H6556 upon Uzza: H5798 wherefore that place H4725 is called H7121 (QalImpf) Perezuzza H6560 to this day. H3117

και ηθυμησεν δαυιδ οτι διεκοψεν κυριος διακοπην εν οζα και εκαλεσεν τον τοπον εκεινον διακοπη οζα εως της ημερας ταυτης

So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like waters breaking out. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.°

David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,

και εκαλεσεν δαυιδ τον σαδωκ και αβιαθαρ τους ιερεις και τους λευιτας τον ουριηλ ασαια ιωηλ σαμαιαν ελιηλ αμιναδαβ

Oh give thanks to Yahweh. Call on his name. Make what he has done known among the peoples.

Give thanks H3034 (HiphImpv) unto the Lord, H3068 call H7121 (QalImpv) upon his name, H8034 make known H3045 (HiphImpv) his deeds H5949 among the people. H5971

εξομολογεισθε τω κυριω επικαλεισθε αυτον εν ονοματι αυτου γνωρισατε εν λαοις τα επιτηδευματα αυτου

David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on Yahweh; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.

And David H1732 built H1129 (QalImpf) there an altar H4196 unto the Lord, H3068 and offered H5927 (HiphImpf) burnt offerings H5930 and peace offerings, H8002 and called H7121 (QalImpf) upon the Lord; H3068 and he answered H6030 (QalImpf) him from heaven H8064 by fire H784 upon the altar H4196 of burnt offering. και ωκοδομησεν δαυιδ εκει θυσιαστηριον κυριω και ανηνεγκεν ολοκαυτωματα και σωτηριου και εβοησεν προς κυριον και επηκουσεν αυτω εν πυρι εκ του ουρανου επι το θυσιαστηριον της ολοκαυτωσεως και καταναλωσεν την ολοκαυτωσιν

Then he called for Solomon his son, and commanded him to build a house for Yahweh, the God of Israel.

He set up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

και εισακουση εκ του ουρανου εξ ετοιμου κατοικητηριου σου και ποιησεις κατα παντα οσα εαν επικαλεσηται σε ο αλλοτριος οπως γνωσιν παντες οι λαοι της γης το ονομα σου και του φοβεισθαι σε ως ο λαος σου ισραηλ και του γνωναι οτι επικεκληται το ονομα σου επι τον οικον τουτον ον ωκοδομησα

if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Get Micaiah the son of Imla quickly.”

The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Let your word therefore, please be like one of theirs, and speak good.”

και ο αγγελος ο πορευθεις του καλεσαι τον μιχαιαν ελαλησεν αυτω λεγων ιδου ελαλησαν οι προφηται εν στοματι ενι αγαθα περι του βασιλεως και εστωσαν δη οι λογοι σου ως ενος αυτων και λαλησεις αγαθα

Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek to Yahweh. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

And Jehoshaphat H3092 feared, H3372 (QalImpf) and set H5414 (QalImpf) himself H6440 to seek H1875 (QalInf) the Lord, H3068 and proclaimed H7121 (QalImpf) a fast H6685 throughout H5921 all Judah. H3063

και εφοβηθη και εδωκεν ιωσαφατ το προσωπον αυτου εκζητησαι τον κυριον και εκηρυξεν νηστειαν εν παντι ιουδα

On the fourth day, they assembled themselves in Beracah° Valley, for there they blessed Yahweh. Therefore the name of that place was called “Beracah Valley” to this day.

2 Chronicles 20:26 “Beracah” means “blessing”.

και εκαλεσεν ο βασιλευς ιωας τον ιωδαε τον αρχοντα και ειπεν αυτω δια τι ουκ επεσκεψω περι των λευιτων του εισενεγκαι απο ιουδα και ιερουσαλημ το κεκριμενον υπο μωυση ανθρωπου του θεου οτε εξεκκλησιασεν τον ισραηλ εις την σκηνην του μαρτυριου

They called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city.

Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read from it to the king.

και απηγγειλεν σαφαν ο γραμματευς τω βασιλει λεγων βιβλιον εδωκεν μοι χελκιας ο ιερευς και ανεγνω αυτο σαφαν εναντιον του βασιλεως

“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 Behold, I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) evil H7451 upon this place, H4725 and upon the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) thereof, [even] all the curses H423 that are written H3789 (QalPasPtc) in the book H5612 which they have read H7121 (QalPerf) before H6440 the king H4428 of Judah: H3063

και απο των υιων των ιερεων υιοι χαβια υιοι ακους υιοι βερζελλαι ος ελαβεν απο θυγατερων βερζελλαι του γαλααδιτου γυναικα και εκληθη επι τω ονοματι αυτων

Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him a straight way for us, for our little ones, and for all our possessions.

Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them. We will do so, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.

You have also appointed prophets to proclaim of you at Jerusalem, saying, ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let’s take counsel together.”

και απο των ιερεων υιοι εβια υιοι ακως υιοι βερζελλι οτι ελαβεν απο θυγατερων βερζελλι του γαλααδιτου γυναικας και εκληθη επ ονοματι αυτων

He read from it before the wide place that was in front of the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand. The ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.

και ανεγνω εν αυτω απο της ωρας του διαφωτισαι τον ηλιον εως ημισους της ημερας απεναντι των ανδρων και των γυναικων και αυτοι συνιεντες και ωτα παντος του λαου εις το βιβλιον του νομου

They read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.

They stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of Yahweh their God a fourth part of the day; and a fourth part they confessed and worshiped Yahweh their God.

εν τη ημερα εκεινη ανεγνωσθη εν βιβλιω μωυση εν ωσιν του λαου και ευρεθη γεγραμμενον εν αυτω οπως μη εισελθωσιν αμμανιται και μωαβιται εν εκκλησια θεου εως αιωνος

In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second women’s house, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines. She came in to the king no more, unless the king delighted in her, and she was called by name.

Then the king’s scribes were called in on the first month, on the thirteenth day of the month; and all that Haman commanded was written to the king’s local governors, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language. It was written in the name of King Ahasuerus, and it was sealed with the king’s ring.

Then Esther called for Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs, whom he had appointed to attend her, and commanded him to go to Mordecai, to find out what this was, and why it was.

“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”

τα εθνη παντα της βασιλειας γινωσκει οτι πας ανθρωπος η γυνη ος εισελευσεται προς τον βασιλεα εις την αυλην την εσωτεραν ακλητος ουκ εστιν αυτω σωτηρια πλην ω εκτεινει ο βασιλευς την χρυσην ραβδον ουτος σωθησεται καγω ου κεκλημαι εισελθειν προς τον βασιλεα εισιν αυται ημεραι τριακοντα

Haman also said, “Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.

Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’ ”

και δοτω ενι των φιλων του βασιλεως των ενδοξων και στολισατω τον ανθρωπον ον ο βασιλευς αγαπα και αναβιβασατω αυτον επι τον ιππον και κηρυσσετω δια της πλατειας της πολεως λεγων ουτως εσται παντι ανθρωπω ον ο βασιλευς δοξαζει

Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!”
