She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees,” for she said, “Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”

και εκαλεσεν αγαρ το ονομα κυριου του λαλουντος προς αυτην συ ο θεος ο επιδων με οτι ειπεν και γαρ ενωπιον ειδον οφθεντα μοι

Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying,

When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

και λημψομαι αρτον και φαγεσθε και μετα τουτο παρελευσεσθε εις την οδον υμων ου εινεκεν εξεκλινατε προς τον παιδα υμων και ειπαν ουτως ποιησον καθως ειρηκας

For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

ηδειν γαρ οτι συνταξει τοις υιοις αυτου και τω οικω αυτου μετ αυτον και φυλαξουσιν τας οδους κυριου ποιειν δικαιοσυνην και κρισιν οπως αν επαγαγη κυριος επι αβρααμ παντα οσα ελαλησεν προς αυτον

Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.

He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”

και προσεθηκεν ετι λαλησαι προς αυτον και ειπεν εαν δε ευρεθωσιν εκει τεσσαρακοντα και ειπεν ου μη απολεσω ενεκεν των τεσσαρακοντα

He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”

και ειπεν μη τι κυριε εαν λαλησω εαν δε ευρεθωσιν εκει τριακοντα και ειπεν ου μη απολεσω εαν ευρω εκει τριακοντα

He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”

He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”

Yahweh went his way as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

απηλθεν δε κυριος ως επαυσατο λαλων τω αβρααμ και αβρααμ απεστρεψεν εις τον τοπον αυτου

Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, “Get up! Get out of this place, for Yahweh will destroy the city!” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

εξηλθεν δε λωτ και ελαλησεν προς τους γαμβρους αυτου τους ειληφοτας τας θυγατερας αυτου και ειπεν αναστητε και εξελθατε εκ του τοπου τουτου οτι εκτριβει κυριος την πολιν εδοξεν δε γελοιαζειν εναντιον των γαμβρων αυτου

He said to him, “Behold, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

Genesis 19:21 Heb. thy face

και ειπεν αυτω ιδου εθαυμασα σου το προσωπον και επι τω ρηματι τουτω του μη καταστρεψαι την πολιν περι ης ελαλησας

Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ear. The men were very scared.

He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, “But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there.”

Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.

και ηκουσεν αβρααμ του εφρων και απεκατεστησεν αβρααμ τω εφρων το αργυριον ο ελαλησεν εις τα ωτα των υιων χετ τετρακοσια διδραχμα αργυριου δοκιμου εμποροις

Yahweh, the God of heaven—who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘I will give this land to your offspring—he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

Food was set before him to eat, but he said, “I will not eat until I have told my message.” Laban said, “Speak on.”

αποκριθεις δε λαβαν και βαθουηλ ειπαν παρα κυριου εξηλθεν το προσταγμα τουτο ου δυνησομεθα ουν σοι αντειπειν κακον καλω

Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as Yahweh has spoken.”

Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.”

While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.

ηλθεν δε ο θεος προς λαβαν τον συρον καθ υπνον την νυκτα και ειπεν αυτω φυλαξαι σεαυτον μηποτε λαλησης μετα ιακωβ πονηρα

It is in the power of my hand to hurt you, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t speak to Jacob either good or bad.’

He commanded also the second, and the third, and all that followed the herds, saying, “This is how you shall speak to Esau, when you find him.

Genesis 34:3 Heb. to her heart

και προσεσχεν τη ψυχη δινας της θυγατρος ιακωβ και ηγαπησεν την παρθενον και ελαλησεν κατα την διανοιαν της παρθενου αυτη

Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to talk with him.

εξηλθεν δε εμμωρ ο πατηρ συχεμ προς ιακωβ λαλησαι αυτω

Hamor talked with them, saying, “The soul of my son, Shechem, longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.

και ελαλησεν εμμωρ αυτοις λεγων συχεμ ο υιος μου προειλατο τη ψυχη την θυγατερα υμων δοτε ουν αυτην αυτω γυναικα

The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit when they spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,

And the sons H1121 of Jacob H3290 answered H6030 (QalImpf) Shechem H7927 and Hamor H2544 his father H1 deceitfully, H4820 and said, H1696 (PielImpf) because he had defiled H2930 (PielPerf) Dinah H1783 their sister: H269

απεκριθησαν δε οι υιοι ιακωβ τω συχεμ και εμμωρ τω πατρι αυτου μετα δολου και ελαλησαν αυτοις οτι εμιαναν διναν την αδελφην αυτων

Hamor and Shechem, his son, came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying,

ηλθεν δε εμμωρ και συχεμ ο υιος αυτου προς την πυλην της πολεως αυτων και ελαλησαν προς τους ανδρας της πολεως αυτων λεγοντες

God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.

ανεβη δε ο θεος απ αυτου εκ του τοπου ου ελαλησεν μετ αυτου

Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink offering on it, and poured oil on it.

και εστησεν ιακωβ στηλην εν τω τοπω ω ελαλησεν μετ αυτου στηλην λιθινην και εσπεισεν επ αυτην σπονδην και επεχεεν επ αυτην ελαιον

Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel”.

ιδοντες δε οι αδελφοι αυτου οτι αυτον ο πατηρ φιλει εκ παντων των υιων αυτου εμισησαν αυτον και ουκ εδυναντο λαλειν αυτω ουδεν ειρηνικον

As she spoke to Joseph day by day, he didn’t listen to her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

και ελαλησεν αυτω κατα τα ρηματα ταυτα λεγουσα εισηλθεν προς με ο παις ο εβραιος ον εισηγαγες προς ημας εμπαιξαι μοι και ειπεν μοι κοιμηθησομαι μετα σου

εγενετο δε ως ηκουσεν ο κυριος αυτου τα ρηματα της γυναικος αυτου οσα ελαλησεν προς αυτον λεγουσα ουτως εποιησεν μοι ο παις σου και εθυμωθη οργη
