Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.

Aren’t we considered as foreigners by him? For he has sold us, and has also used up our money.

Come, and let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites, and not let our hand be on him; for he is our brother, our flesh.” His brothers listened to him.

Midianites who were merchants passed by, and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The merchants brought Joseph into Egypt.

The Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard.

Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” They came near. He said, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.

ειπεν δε ιωσηφ προς τους αδελφους αυτου εγγισατε προς με και ηγγισαν και ειπεν εγω ειμι ιωσηφ ο αδελφος υμων ον απεδοσθε εις αιγυπτον

Now don’t be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

νυν ουν μη λυπεισθε μηδε σκληρον υμιν φανητω οτι απεδοσθε με ωδε εις γαρ ζωην απεστειλεν με ο θεος εμπροσθεν υμων

So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe on them, and the land became Pharaoh’s.

και εκτησατο ιωσηφ πασαν την γην των αιγυπτιων τω φαραω απεδοντο γαρ οι αιγυπτιοι την γην αυτων τω φαραω επεκρατησεν γαρ αυτων ο λιμος και εγενετο η γη φαραω

Only he didn’t buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. That is why they didn’t sell their land.

χωρις της γης των ιερεων μονον ουκ εκτησατο ταυτην ιωσηφ εν δοσει γαρ εδωκεν δομα τοις ιερευσιν φαραω και ησθιον την δοσιν ην εδωκεν αυτοις φαραω δια τουτο ουκ απεδοντο την γην αυτων

“If a man sells his daughter to be a female servant, she shall not go out as the male servants do.

If she doesn’t please her master, who has married her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her.

εαν μη ευαρεστηση τω κυριω αυτης ην αυτω καθωμολογησατο απολυτρωσει αυτην εθνει δε αλλοτριω ου κυριος εστιν πωλειν αυτην οτι ηθετησεν εν αυτη

“Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

“If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

If the sun has risen on him, he is guilty of bloodshed. He shall make restitution. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

According to the number of years after the Jubilee you shall buy from your neighbor. According to the number of years of the crops he shall sell to you.

κατα αριθμον ετων μετα την σημασιαν κτηση παρα του πλησιον κατα αριθμον ενιαυτων γενηματων αποδωσεται σοι

According to the length of the years you shall increase its price, and according to the shortness of the years you shall diminish its price; for he is selling the number of the crops to you.

καθοτι αν πλειον των ετων πληθυνη την εγκτησιν αυτου και καθοτι αν ελαττον των ετων ελαττονωση την κτησιν αυτου οτι αριθμον γενηματων αυτου ουτως αποδωσεται σοι

“ ‘The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine; for you are strangers and live as foreigners with me.

και η γη ου πραθησεται εις βεβαιωσιν εμη γαρ εστιν η γη διοτι προσηλυτοι και παροικοι υμεις εστε εναντιον μου

“ ‘If your brother becomes poor, and sells some of his possessions, then his kinsman who is next to him shall come, and redeem that which his brother has sold.

If thy brother H251 be waxen poor, H4134 (QalImpf) and hath sold H4376 (QalPerf) away [some] of his possession, H272 and if any of his kin H7138 come H935 (QalPerf) to redeem H1350 (QalActPtc) it, then shall he redeem H1350 (QalPerf) that which his brother H251 sold. H4465

εαν δε πενηται ο αδελφος σου ο μετα σου και αποδωται απο της κατασχεσεως αυτου και ελθη ο αγχιστευων εγγιζων εγγιστα αυτου και λυτρωσεται την πρασιν του αδελφου αυτου

then let him reckon the years since its sale, and restore the surplus to the man to whom he sold it; and he shall return to his property.

και συλλογιειται τα ετη της πρασεως αυτου και αποδωσει ο υπερεχει τω ανθρωπω ω απεδοτο εαυτον αυτω και απελευσεται εις την κατασχεσιν αυτου

“ ‘If a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it has been sold. For a full year he shall have the right of redemption.

And if a man H376 sell H4376 (QalImpf) a dwelling H4186 house H1004 in a walled H2346 city, H5892 then he may redeem H1353 it within a whole H8552 (QalInf) year H8141 after it is sold; H4465 [within] a full year H3117 may he redeem H1353 it.

εαν δε τις αποδωται οικιαν οικητην εν πολει τετειχισμενη και εσται η λυτρωσις αυτης εως πληρωθη ενιαυτος ημερων εσται η λυτρωσις αυτης

But the field of the pasture lands of their cities may not be sold, for it is their perpetual possession.

But the field H7704 of the suburbs H4054 of their cities H5892 may not be sold; H4376 (NiphImpf) for it [is] their perpetual H5769 possession. H272

και οι αγροι οι αφωρισμενοι ταις πολεσιν αυτων ου πραθησονται οτι κατασχεσις αιωνια τουτο αυτων εστιν

“ ‘If your brother has grown poor among you, and sells himself to you, you shall not make him to serve as a slave.

And if thy brother H251 [that dwelleth] by thee be waxen poor, H4134 (QalImpf) and be sold H4376 (NiphPerf) unto thee; thou shalt not compel H5647 (QalImpf) him to serve H5656 as a bondservant: H5650

εαν δε ταπεινωθη ο αδελφος σου παρα σοι και πραθη σοι ου δουλευσει σοι δουλειαν οικετου

For they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. They shall not be sold as slaves.

For they [are] my servants, H5650 which I brought forth H3318 (HiphPerf) out of the land H776 of Egypt: H4714 they shall not be sold H4376 (NiphImpf) as H4466 bondmen. H5650

διοτι οικεται μου εισιν ουτοι ους εξηγαγον εκ γης αιγυπτου ου πραθησεται εν πρασει οικετου

“ ‘If an alien or temporary resident with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him has grown poor, and sells himself to the stranger or foreigner living among you, or to a member of the stranger’s family,

εαν δε ευρη η χειρ του προσηλυτου η του παροικου του παρα σοι και απορηθεις ο αδελφος σου πραθη τω προσηλυτω η τω παροικω τω παρα σοι εκ γενετης προσηλυτω

after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him;

After H310 that he is sold H4376 (NiphPerf) he may be redeemed again; H1353 one H259 of his brethren H251 may redeem H1350 (QalImpf) him:

μετα το πραθηναι αυτω λυτρωσις εσται αυτω εις των αδελφων αυτου λυτρωσεται αυτον

He shall reckon with him who bought him from the year that he sold himself to him to the Year of Jubilee. The price of his sale shall be according to the number of years; he shall be with him according to the time of a hired servant.

And he shall reckon H2803 (PielPerf) with him that bought H7069 (QalActPtc) him from the year H8141 that he was sold H4376 (NiphInf) to him unto the year H8141 of jubile: H3104 and the price H3701 of his sale H4465 shall be according unto the number H4557 of years, H8141 according to the time H3117 of an hired servant H7916 shall it be with him.

και συλλογιειται προς τον κεκτημενον αυτον απο του ετους ου απεδοτο εαυτον αυτω εως του ενιαυτου της αφεσεως και εσται το αργυριον της πρασεως αυτου ως μισθιου ετος εξ ετους εσται μετ αυτου

If he will not redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more;

And if he will not redeem H1350 (QalImpf) the field, H7704 or if he have sold H4376 (QalPerf) the field H7704 to another H312 man, H376 it shall not be redeemed H1350 (NiphImpf) any more.

εαν δε μη λυτρωται τον αγρον και αποδωται τον αγρον ανθρωπω ετερω ουκετι μη λυτρωσηται αυτον

If it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back according to your valuation, and shall add to it the fifth part of it; or if it isn’t redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation.

And if [it be] of an unclean H2931 beast, H929 then he shall redeem H6299 (QalPerf) [it] according to thine estimation, H6187 and shall add H3254 (QalPerf) a fifth H2549 [part] of it thereto: or if it be not redeemed, H1350 (NiphImpf) then it shall be sold H4376 (NiphPerf) according to thy estimation. εαν δε των τετραποδων των ακαθαρτων αλλαξει κατα την τιμην αυτου και προσθησει το επιπεμπτον προς αυτο και εσται αυτω εαν δε μη λυτρωται πραθησεται κατα το τιμημα αυτου

“ ‘Notwithstanding, no devoted thing that a man devotes to Yahweh of all that he has, whether of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. Everything that is permanently devoted is most holy to Yahweh.

Notwithstanding no devoted thing, H2764 that a man H376 shall devote H2763 (HiphImpf) unto the Lord H3068 of all that he hath, [both] of man H120 and beast, H929 and of the field H7704 of his possession, H272 shall be sold H4376 (NiphImpf) or redeemed: H1350 (NiphImpf) every devoted thing H2764 [is] most H6944 holy H6944 unto the Lord. παν δε αναθεμα ο εαν αναθη ανθρωπος τω κυριω απο παντων οσα αυτω εστιν απο ανθρωπου εως κτηνους και απο αγρου κατασχεσεως αυτου ουκ αποδωσεται ουδε λυτρωσεται παν αναθεμα αγιον αγιων εσται τω κυριω

You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the foreigner living among you who is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you.

εαν δε πραθη σοι ο αδελφος σου ο εβραιος η η εβραια δουλευσει σοι εξ ετη και τω εβδομω εξαποστελεις αυτον ελευθερον απο σου

It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she desires; but you shall not sell her at all for money. You shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.

And it shall be, if thou have no delight H2654 (QalPerf) in her, then thou shalt let her go H7971 (PielPerf) whither she will; H5315 but thou shalt not sell H4376 (QalImpf) her at all H4376 (QalInf) for money, H3701 thou shalt not make merchandise H6014 (HithImpf) of her, because H834 thou hast humbled H6031 (PielPerf) her.

και εσται εαν μη θελης αυτην εξαποστελεις αυτην ελευθεραν και πρασει ου πραθησεται αργυριου ουκ αθετησεις αυτην διοτι εταπεινωσας αυτην

If a man is found stealing any of his brothers of the children of Israel, and he deals with him as a slave, or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall remove the evil from among you.

εαν δε αλω ανθρωπος κλεπτων ψυχην των αδελφων αυτου των υιων ισραηλ και καταδυναστευσας αυτον αποδωται αποθανειται ο κλεπτης εκεινος και εξαρεις τον πονηρον εξ υμων αυτων

Yahweh will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I told to you that you would never see it again. There you will offer yourselves to your enemies for male and female slaves, and nobody will buy you.

And the Lord H3068 shall bring H7725 thee into Egypt H4714 again H7725 (HiphPerf) with ships, H591 by the way H1870 whereof I spake H559 (QalPerf) unto thee, Thou shalt see H7200 (QalInf) it no more again: H3254 (HiphImpf) and there ye shall be sold H4376 (HithPerf) unto your enemies H341 (QalActPtc) for bondmen H5650 and bondwomen, H8198 and no man shall buy H7069 (QalActPtc) [you].

και αποστρεψει σε κυριος εις αιγυπτον εν πλοιοις και εν τη οδω η ειπα ου προσθησεσθε ετι ιδειν αυτην και πραθησεσθε εκει τοις εχθροις υμων εις παιδας και παιδισκας και ουκ εσται ο κτωμενος

How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and Yahweh had delivered them up?

πως διωξεται εις χιλιους και δυο μετακινησουσιν μυριαδας ει μη ο θεος απεδοτο αυτους και κυριος παρεδωκεν αυτους

Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

και ωργισθη θυμω κυριος τω ισραηλ και παρεδωκεν αυτους εν χειρι προνομευοντων και επρονομευσαν αυτους και απεδοτο αυτους εν χειρι των εχθρων αυτων κυκλοθεν και ουκ ηδυνασθησαν αντιστηναι κατα προσωπον των εχθρων αυτων

και διηγον τους υιους αυτων και τας θυγατερας αυτων εν πυρι και εμαντευοντο μαντειας και οιωνιζοντο και επραθησαν του ποιησαι το πονηρον εν οφθαλμοις κυριου παροργισαι αυτον
