David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;

but he didn’t call Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?

και ειπεν ναθαν προς βηρσαβεε μητερα σαλωμων λεγων ουκ ηκουσας οτι εβασιλευσεν αδωνιας υιος αγγιθ και ο κυριος ημων δαυιδ ουκ εγνω

Now therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life and your son Solomon’s life.

Now therefore come, H3212 (QalImpv) let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, H3289 (QalImpf) H6098 that thou mayest save H4422 (PielImpv) thine own life, H5315 and the life H5315 of thy son H1121 Solomon. H8010

και νυν δευρο συμβουλευσω σοι δη συμβουλιαν και εξελου την ψυχην σου και την ψυχην του υιου σου σαλωμων

Go in to King David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord the king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then does Adonijah reign?’

δευρο εισελθε προς τον βασιλεα δαυιδ και ερεις προς αυτον λεγουσα ουχι συ κυριε μου βασιλευ ωμοσας τη δουλη σου λεγων οτι σαλωμων ο υιος σου βασιλευσει μετ εμε και αυτος καθιειται επι του θρονου μου και τι οτι εβασιλευσεν αδωνιας

She said to him, “My lord, you swore by Yahweh^§ your God^§ to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

He has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but he hasn’t called Solomon your servant.

και εθυσιασεν μοσχους και αρνας και προβατα εις πληθος και εκαλεσεν παντας τους υιους του βασιλεως και αβιαθαρ τον ιερεα και ιωαβ τον αρχοντα της δυναμεως και τον σαλωμων τον δουλον σου ουκ εκαλεσεν

Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”

But he hasn’t called me, even me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon.

και εμε αυτον τον δουλον σου και σαδωκ τον ιερεα και βαναιαν υιον ιωδαε και σαλωμων τον δουλον σου ουκ εκαλεσεν

most certainly as I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place;’ I will most certainly do this today.”

As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”

Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent, and anointed Solomon. They blew the trumpet; and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”

Jonathan answered Adonijah, “Most certainly our lord King David has made Solomon king.

και απεκριθη ιωναθαν και ειπεν και μαλα ο κυριος ημων ο βασιλευς δαυιδ εβασιλευσεν τον σαλωμων

Also, Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.

And also Solomon H8010 sitteth H3427 (QalPerf) on the throne H3678 of the kingdom. H4410

και εκαθισεν σαλωμων επι θρονον της βασιλειας

Moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne;’ and the king bowed himself on the bed.

Adonijah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and hung onto the horns of the altar.

And Adonijah H138 feared H3372 (QalPerf) because H6440 of Solomon, H8010 and arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went, H3212 (QalImpf) and caught hold H2388 (HiphImpf) on the horns H7161 of the altar. H4196

και αδωνιας εφοβηθη απο προσωπου σαλωμων και ανεστη και απηλθεν και επελαβετο των κερατων του θυσιαστηριου

Solomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for, behold, he is hanging onto the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’ ”

και ανηγγελη τω σαλωμων λεγοντες ιδου αδωνιας εφοβηθη τον βασιλεα σαλωμων και κατεχει των κερατων του θυσιαστηριου λεγων ομοσατω μοι σημερον ο βασιλευς σαλωμων ει ου θανατωσει τον δουλον αυτου εν ρομφαια

Solomon said, “If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of his shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”

And Solomon H8010 said, H559 (QalImpf) If he will shew himself a worthy H2428 man, H1121 there shall not an hair H8185 of him fall H5307 (QalImpf) to the earth: H776 but if wickedness H7451 shall be found H4672 (NiphImpf) in him, he shall die. H4191 (QalPerf)

και ειπεν σαλωμων εαν γενηται εις υιον δυναμεως ει πεσειται των τριχων αυτου επι την γην και εαν κακια ευρεθη εν αυτω θανατωθησεται

So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”

Solomon sat on David his father’s throne; and his kingdom was firmly established.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. She said, “Do you come peaceably?” He said, “Peaceably.

και εισηλθεν αδωνιας υιος αγγιθ προς βηρσαβεε μητερα σαλωμων και προσεκυνησεν αυτη η δε ειπεν ειρηνη η εισοδος σου και ειπεν ειρηνη

He said, “Please speak to Solomon the king (for he will not tell you ‘no’), that he give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife.”

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Speak, H559 (QalImpv) I pray thee, unto Solomon H8010 the king, H4428 (for he will not say H7725 thee H6440 nay,) H7725 (HiphImpf) that he give H5414 (QalImpf) me Abishag H49 the Shunammite H7767 to wife. H802

και ειπεν αυτη ειπον δη προς σαλωμων τον βασιλεα οτι ουκ αποστρεψει το προσωπον αυτου απο σου και δωσει μοι την αβισακ την σωμανιτιν εις γυναικα

Bathsheba therefore went to King Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. The king rose up to meet her and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne and caused a throne to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand.

King Solomon answered his mother, “Why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.”

και απεκριθη σαλωμων ο βασιλευς και ειπεν τη μητρι αυτου και ινα τι συ ητησαι την αβισακ τω αδωνια και αιτησαι αυτω την βασιλειαν οτι ουτος αδελφος μου ο μεγας υπερ εμε και αυτω αβιαθαρ ο ιερευς και αυτω ιωαβ ο υιος σαρουιας ο αρχιστρατηγος εταιρος

Then King Solomon swore by Yahweh, saying, “God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life.

Then king H4428 Solomon H8010 sware H7650 (NiphImpf) by the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf) God H430 do H6213 (QalImpf) so to me, and more also, H3254 (HiphImpf) if Adonijah H138 have not spoken H1696 (PielPerf) this word H1697 against his own life. H5315

και ωμοσεν ο βασιλευς σαλωμων κατα του κυριου λεγων ταδε ποιησαι μοι ο θεος και ταδε προσθειη οτι κατα της ψυχης αυτου ελαλησεν αδωνιας τον λογον τουτον

King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell on him, so that he died.

And king H4428 Solomon H8010 sent H7971 (QalImpf) by the hand H3027 of Benaiah H1141 the son H1121 of Jehoiada; H3077 and he fell H6293 (QalImpf) upon him that he died. H4191 (QalImpf)

So Solomon thrust Abiathar out from being priest to Yahweh, that he might fulfill Yahweh’s word which he spoke concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

So Solomon H8010 thrust out H1644 (PielImpf) Abiathar H54 from being priest H3548 unto the Lord; H3068 that he might fulfil H4390 (PielInf) the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 which he spake H1696 (PielPerf) concerning the house H1004 of Eli H5941 in Shiloh. H7887

King Solomon was told, “Joab has fled to Yahweh’s Tent; and behold, he is by the altar.” Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, “Go, fall on him.”

And it was told H5046 (HophImpf) king H4428 Solomon H8010 that Joab H3097 was fled H5127 (QalPerf) unto the tabernacle H168 of the Lord; H3068 and, behold, he is by H681 the altar. Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had come again.

και απηγγελη τω σαλωμων λεγοντες οτι επορευθη σεμει εξ ιερουσαλημ εις γεθ και απεστρεψεν τους δουλους αυτου

But King Solomon will be blessed, and David’s throne will be established before Yahweh forever.”

and king H4428 Solomon H8010 shall be blessed, H1288 (QalPasPtc) and the throne H3678 of David H1732 shall be established H3559 (NiphPtc) before H6440 the Lord H3068 for H5704 ever. H5769

και ο βασιλευς σαλωμων ηυλογημενος και ο θρονος δαυιδ εσται ετοιμος ενωπιον κυριου εις τον αιωνα

So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out, and fell on him, so that he died. The kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

So the king H4428 commanded H6680 (PielImpf) Benaiah H1141 the son H1121 of Jehoiada; H3077 which went out, H3318 (QalImpf) and fell H6293 (QalImpf) upon him, that he died. H4191 (QalImpf) And the kingdom H4467 was established H3559 (NiphPerf) in the hand H3027 of Solomon. H8010

και ενετειλατο ο βασιλευς σαλωμων τω βαναια υιω ιωδαε και εξηλθεν και ανειλεν αυτον και απεθανεν

Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.

The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.

In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”

Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

King Solomon was king over all Israel.
