[1] Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. [2] Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper room that was in Samaria, and was sick. So he sent messengers, and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover of this sickness.” [3] But Yahweh’s§ angel said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and tell them, ‘Is it because there is no God§ in Israel that you go to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? [4] Now therefore Yahweh says, “You will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.” ’ ” Then Elijah departed. [5] The messengers returned to him, and he said to them, “Why is it that you have returned?” [6] They said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and tell him, “Yahweh says, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you send to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.’ ” ’ ” [7] He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you and told you these words?” [8] They answered him, “He was a hairy man, and wearing a leather belt around his waist.”He said, “It’s Elijah the Tishbite.” [9] Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold,§ he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’ ” [10] Elijah answered to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty!” Then fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty. [11] Again he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. He answered him, “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down quickly!’ ” [12] Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty!” Then God’s fire came down from the sky, and consumed him and his fifty. [13] Again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. The third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, and said to him, “Man of God, please let my life and the life of these fifty of your servants be precious in your sight. [14] Behold, fire came down from the sky and consumed the last two captains of fifty with their fifties. But now let my life be precious in your sight.” [15] Yahweh’s angel said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.”Then he arose and went down with him to the king. [16] He said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? Therefore you will not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you will surely die.’ ” [17] So he died according to Yahweh’s word which Elijah had spoken. Jehoram began to reign in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, because he had no son. [18] Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

upH5927(QalImpv) to meetH7125(QalInf) the messengersH4397 of the kingH4428 of Samaria,H8111 and sayH1696(PielImpv) unto them, [Is it] not because [there is] not a GodH430 in Israel,H3478 [that] ye goH1980(QalActPtc) to enquireH1875(QalInf) of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of Ekron?H6138 [4] Now therefore thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 Thou shalt not come downH3381(QalImpf) from that unto him, he saidH559(QalImpf) unto them, Why are ye nowH2088 turned back?H7725(QalPerf) [6] And they saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, There cameH5927 a manH376 upH5927(QalPerf) to meetH7125(QalInf) us, and saidH559(QalImpf) unto us, Go,H3212(QalImpv) turn againH7725(QalImpv) unto the kingH4428 that sentH7971(QalPerf) you, and sayH1696(PielPerf) unto him, Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 [Is it] not because [there is] not a GodH430 in Israel,H3478 [that] thou sendestH7971(QalActPtc) to enquireH1875(QalInf) of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of Ekron?H6138 therefore thou shalt not come [was he] which came upH5927(QalPerf) to meetH7125(QalInf) you, and toldH1696(PielImpf) you these words?H1697 [8] And they answeredH559(QalImpf) him, [He was] an hairyH8181 man,H1167 and girtH247(QalPasPtc) with a girdleH232 of leatherH5785 about his loins.H4975 And he said,H559(QalImpf) It [is] ElijahH452 the Tishbite.H8664 [9] Then the kingH4428 sentH7971(QalImpf) unto him a captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 with his fifty.H2572 And he went upH5927(QalImpf) to him: and, behold, he satH3427(QalActPtc) on the topH7218 of an hill.H2022 And he spakeH1696(PielImpf) unto him, Thou manH376 of God,H430 the kingH4428 hath said,H1696(PielPerf) Come down.H3381(QalImpv) [10] And ElijahH452 answeredH6030(QalImpf) and saidH1696(PielImpf) to the captainH8269 of fifty,H2572 If I [be] a manH376 of God,H430 then let fireH784 come downH3381(QalImpf) from heaven,H8064 and consumeH398(QalImpf) thee and thy fifty.H2572 And there came downH3381(QalImpf) fireH784 from heaven,H8064 and consumedH398(QalImpf) him and his fifty.H2572 [11] AgainH7725(QalImpf) also he sentH7971(QalImpf) unto him anotherH312 captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 with his fifty.H2572 And he answeredH6030(QalImpf) and saidH1696(PielImpf) unto him, O manH376 of God,H430 thus hath the kingH4428 said,H559(QalPerf) Come downH3381(QalImpv) quickly.H4120 [12] And ElijahH452 answeredH6030(QalImpf) and saidH1696(PielImpf) unto them, If I [be] a manH376 of God,H430 let fireH784 come downH3381(QalImpf) from heaven,H8064 and consumeH398(QalImpf) thee and thy fifty.H2572 And the fireH784 of GodH430 came downH3381(QalImpf) from heaven,H8064 and consumedH398(QalImpf) him and his fifty.H2572 [13] And he sentH7971(QalImpf) againH7725(QalImpf) a captainH8269 of the thirdH7992 fiftyH2572 with his fifty.H2572 And the thirdH7992 captainH8269 of fiftyH2572 went up,H5927(QalImpf) and cameH935(QalImpf) and fellH3766(QalImpf) on his kneesH1290 beforeH5048 Elijah,H452 and besoughtH2603(HithImpf) him, and saidH1696(PielImpf) unto him, O manH376 of God,H430 I pray thee, let my life,H5315 and the lifeH5315 of these fiftyH2572 thy servants,H5650 be preciousH3365(QalImpf) in thy sight.H5869 [14] Behold, there cameH3381 fireH784 downH3381(QalPerf) from heaven,H8064 and burnt upH398(QalImpf) the twoH8147 captainsH8269 of the formerH7223 fiftiesH2572 with their fifties:H2572 therefore let my lifeH5315 now be preciousH3365(QalImpf) in thy sight.H5869 [15] And the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 saidH1696(PielImpf) unto Elijah,H452 Go downH3381(QalImpv) with him: be not afraidH3372(QalImpf) of him.H6440 And he arose,H6965(QalImpf) and went downH3381(QalImpf) with him unto the king.H4428 [16] And he saidH1696(PielImpf) unto him, Thus saithH559(QalPerf) the Lord,H3068 Forasmuch as thou hast sentH7971(QalPerf) messengersH4397 to enquireH1875(QalInf) of BaalzebubH1176 the godH430 of Ekron,H6138 [is it] not because [there is] no GodH430 in IsraelH3478 to enquireH1875(QalInf) of his word?H1697 therefore thou shalt not come downH3381(QalImpf) off that bedH4296 on which thou art gone up,H5927(QalPerf) but shalt surelyH4191(QalInf) die.H4191(QalImpf) [17] So he diedH4191(QalImpf) according to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 which ElijahH452 had spoken.H1696(PielPerf) And JehoramH3088 reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of
