[1] Now Elisha had spoken to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It will also come on the land for seven years.” [2] The woman arose, and did according to the man of God’s word. She went with her household, and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years. [3] At the end of seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines. Then she went out to beg the king for her house and for her land. [4] Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.” [5] As he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life begged the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.” [6] When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.” [7] Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. He was told, “The man of God has come here.” [8] The king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go meet the man of God, and inquire of Yahweh by him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’ ” [9] So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him and said, “Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’ ” [10] Elisha said to him, “Go, tell him, ‘You will surely recover;’ however Yahweh has shown me that he will surely die.” [11] He settled his gaze steadfastly on him, until he was ashamed. Then the man of God wept. [12] Hazael said, “Why do you weep, my lord?”He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash their little ones in pieces, and rip up their pregnant women.” [13] Hazael said, “But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he could do this great thing?”Elisha answered, “Yahweh has shown me that you will be king over Syria.” [14] Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?”He answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.” [15] On the next day, he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on the king’s face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place. [16] In the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being king of Judah then, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. [17] He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign. He reigned eight years in Jerusalem. [18] He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did Ahab’s house, for he married Ahab’s daughter. He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight. [19] However, Yahweh would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always. [20] In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. [21] Then Joram crossed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him; and he rose up by night and struck the Edomites who surrounded him with the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. [22] So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time. [23] The rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? [24] Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place. [25] In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. [26] Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel. [27] He walked in the way of Ahab’s house and did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, as did Ahab’s house, for he was the son-in-law of Ahab’s house. [28] He went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead, and the Syrians wounded Joram. [29] King Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel from the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

[1] Then spakeH1696(PielPerf) ElishaH477 unto the woman,H802 whose sonH1121 he had restored to life,H2421(HiphPerf) saying,H559(QalInf) Arise,H6965(QalImpv) and goH3212(QalImpv) thou and thine household,H1004 and sojournH1481(QalImpv) wheresoeverH834 thou canst sojourn:H1481(QalImpf) for the LordH3068 hath calledH7121(QalPerf) for a famine;H7458 and it shall also comeH935(QalPerf) upon the landH776 sevenH7651 years.H8141 [2] And the womanH802 arose,H6965(QalImpf) and didH6213(QalImpf) after the sayingH1697 of the manH376 of God:H430 and she wentH3212(QalImpf) with her household,H1004 and sojournedH1481(QalImpf) in the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 years.H8141 [3] And it came to pass at the sevenH7651 years’H8141 end,H7097 that the womanH802 returnedH7725(QalImpf) out of the landH776 of the Philistines:H6430 and she went forthH3318(QalImpf) to cryH6817(QalInf) unto the kingH4428 for her houseH1004 and for her land.H7704 [4] And the kingH4428 talkedH1696(PielPtc) with GehaziH1522 the servantH5288 of the manH376 of God,H430 saying,H559(QalInf) TellH5608(PielImpv) me, I pray thee, all the great thingsH1419 that ElishaH477 hath done.H6213(QalPerf) [5] And it came to pass, as he was tellingH5608(PielPtc) the kingH4428 how he had restoredH2421 a dead bodyH4191(QalPtc) to life,H2421(HiphPerf) that, behold, the woman,H802 whose sonH1121 he had restored to life,H2421(HiphPerf) criedH6817(QalActPtc) to the kingH4428 for her houseH1004 and for her land.H7704 And GehaziH1522 said,H559(QalImpf) My lord,H113 O king,H4428 this [is] the woman,H802 and this [is] her son,H1121 whom ElishaH477 restored to life.H2421(HiphPerf) [6] And when the kingH4428 askedH7592(QalImpf) the woman,H802 she toldH5608(PielImpf) him. So the kingH4428 appointedH5414(QalImpf) unto her a certainH259 officer,H5631 saying,H559(QalInf) RestoreH7725(HiphImpv) all that [was] hers, and all the fruitsH8393 of the fieldH7704 since the dayH3117 that she leftH5800(QalInf) the land,H776 even until now. [7] And ElishaH477 cameH935(QalImpf) to Damascus;H1834 and BenhadadH1130 the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 was sick;H2470(QalActPtc) and it was toldH5046(HophImpf) him, saying,H559(QalInf) The manH376 of GodH430 is comeH935(QalPerf) hither.H2008 [8] And the kingH4428 saidH559(QalImpf) unto Hazael,H2371 TakeH3947(QalImpv) a presentH4503 in thine hand,H3027 and go,H3212(QalImpv) meetH7125(QalInf) the manH376 of God,H430 and enquireH1875(QalPerf) of the LordH3068 by him, saying,H559(QalInf) Shall I recoverH2421(QalImpf) of this disease?H2483 [9] So HazaelH2371 wentH3212(QalImpf) to meetH7125(QalInf) him, and tookH3947(QalImpf) a presentH4503 with him,H3027 even of every good thingH2898 of Damascus,H1834 fortyH705 camels’H1581 burden,H4853 and cameH935(QalImpf) and stoodH5975(QalImpf) beforeH6440 him, and said,H559(QalImpf) Thy sonH1121 BenhadadH1130 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 hath sentH7971(QalPerf) me to thee, saying,H559(QalInf) Shall I recoverH2421(QalImpf) of this disease?H2483 [10] And ElishaH477 saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, Go,H3212(QalImpv) sayH559(QalImpv) unto him, Thou mayest certainlyH2421(QalInf) recover:H2421(QalImpf) howbeit the LordH3068 hath shewedH7200(HiphPerf) me that he shall surelyH4191(QalInf) die.H4191(QalImpf) [11] And he settledH5975(HiphImpf) his countenanceH6440 stedfastly,H7760(QalImpf) until he was ashamed:H954(QalInf) and the manH376 of GodH430 wept.H1058(QalImpf) [12] And HazaelH2371 said,H559(QalImpf) Why weepethH1058(QalActPtc) my lord?H113 And he answered,H559(QalImpf) Because I knowH3045(QalPerf) the evilH7451 that thou wilt doH6213(QalImpf) unto the childrenH1121 of Israel:H3478 their strong holdsH4013 wilt thou setH7971(PielImpf) on fire,H784 and their young menH970 wilt thou slayH2026(QalImpf) with the sword,H2719 and wilt dashH7376(PielImpf) their children,H5768 and rip upH1234(PielImpf) their women with child.H2030 [13] And HazaelH2371 said,H559(QalImpf) But what, [is] thy servantH5650 a dog,H3611 that he should doH6213(QalImpf) this greatH1419 thing?H1697 And ElishaH477 answered,H559(QalImpf) The LordH3068 hath shewedH7200(HiphPerf) me that thou [shalt be] kingH4428 over Syria.H758 [14] So he departedH3212(QalImpf) from Elisha,H477 and cameH935(QalImpf) to his master;H113 who saidH559(QalImpf) to him, What saidH559(QalPerf) ElishaH477 to thee? And he answered,H559(QalImpf) He toldH559(QalPerf) me [that] thou shouldest surelyH2421(QalInf) recover.H2421(QalImpf) [15] And it came to pass on the morrow,H4283 that he tookH3947(QalImpf) a thick cloth,H4346 and dippedH2881(QalImpf) [it] in water,H4325 and spreadH6566(QalImpf) [it] on his face,H6440 so that he died:H4191(QalImpf) and HazaelH2371 reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead. [16] And in the fifthH2568 yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of Israel,H3478 JehoshaphatH3092 [being] then kingH4428 of Judah,H3063 JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 began to reign.H4427(QalPerf) [17] ThirtyH7970 and twoH8147 yearsH8141 oldH1121 was he when he began to reign;H4427(QalInf) and he reignedH4427(QalPerf) eightH8083 yearsH8141 in Jerusalem.H3389 [18] And he walkedH3212(QalImpf) in the wayH1870 of the kingsH4428 of Israel,H3478 as didH6213(QalPerf) the houseH1004 of Ahab:H256 for the daughterH1323 of AhabH256 was his wife:H802 and he didH6213(QalImpf) evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the Lord.H3068 [19] Yet the LordH3068 wouldH14(QalPerf) not destroyH7843(HiphInf) JudahH3063 for DavidH1732 his servant’sH5650 sake, as he promisedH559(QalPerf) him to giveH5414(QalInf) him alwayH3117 a light,H5216 [and] to his children.H1121 [20] In his daysH3117 EdomH123 revoltedH6586(QalPerf) from under the handH3027 of Judah,H3063 and madeH4427(HiphImpf) a kingH4428 over themselves. [21] So JoramH3141 went overH5674(QalImpf) to Zair,H6811 and all the chariotsH7393 with him: and he roseH6965(QalPerf) by night,H3915 and smoteH5221(HiphImpf) the EdomitesH123 which compassed him about,H5437(QalActPtc) and the captainsH8269 of the chariots:H7393 and the peopleH5971 fledH5127(QalImpf) into their tents.H168 [22] Yet EdomH123 revoltedH6586(QalImpf) from under the handH3027 of JudahH3063 unto this day.H3117 Then LibnahH3841 revoltedH6586(QalImpf) at the sameH1931 time.H6256 [23] And the restH3499 of the actsH1697 of Joram,H3141 and all that he did,H6213(QalPerf) [are] they not writtenH3789(QalPasPtc) in the bookH5612 of the chroniclesH1697 of the kingsH4428 of Judah?H3063 [24] And JoramH3141 sleptH7901(QalImpf) with his fathers,H1 and was buriedH6912(NiphImpf) with his fathersH1 in the cityH5892 of David:H1732 and AhaziahH274 his sonH1121 reignedH4427(QalImpf) in his stead. [25] In the twelfthH8147 yearH8141 of JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 did AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 begin to reign.H4427(QalPerf) [26] TwoH8147 and twentyH6242 yearsH8141 oldH1121 [was] AhaziahH274 when he began to reign;H4427(QalInf) and he reignedH4427(QalPerf) oneH259 yearH8141 in Jerusalem.H3389 And his mother’sH517 nameH8034 [was] Athaliah,H6271 the daughterH1323 of OmriH6018 kingH4428 of Israel.H3478 [27] And he walkedH3212(QalImpf) in the wayH1870 of the houseH1004 of Ahab,H256 and didH6213(QalImpf) evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the Lord,H3068 as [did] the houseH1004 of Ahab:H256 for he [was] the son in lawH2860 of the houseH1004 of Ahab.H256 [28] And he wentH3212(QalImpf) with JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 to the warH4421 against HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of SyriaH758 in Ramothgilead;H7433 and the SyriansH761 woundedH5221(HiphImpf) Joram.H3141 [29] And kingH4428 JoramH3141 went backH7725(QalImpf) to be healedH7495(HithInf) in JezreelH3157 of the woundsH4347 which the SyriansH761 had givenH5221(HiphImpf) him at Ramah,H7414 when he foughtH3898(NiphInf) against HazaelH2371 kingH4428 of Syria.H758 And AhaziahH274 the sonH1121 of JehoramH3088 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 went downH3381(QalPerf) to seeH7200(QalInf) JoramH3141 the sonH1121 of AhabH256 in Jezreel,H3157 because he was sick.H2470(QalActPtc)
