[1] Now Elisha had spoken to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It will also come on the land for seven years.” [2] The woman arose, and did according to the man of God’s word. She went with her household, and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years. [3] At the end of seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines. Then she went out to beg the king for her house and for her land. [4] Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.” [5] As he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life begged the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.” [6] When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.” [7] Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. He was told, “The man of God has come here.” [8] The king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go meet the man of God, and inquire of Yahweh by him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’ ” [9] So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him and said, “Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’ ” [10] Elisha said to him, “Go, tell him, ‘You will surely recover;’ however Yahweh has shown me that he will surely die.” [11] He settled his gaze steadfastly on him, until he was ashamed. Then the man of God wept. [12] Hazael said, “Why do you weep, my lord?”He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash their little ones in pieces, and rip up their pregnant women.” [13] Hazael said, “But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he could do this great thing?”Elisha answered, “Yahweh has shown me that you will be king over Syria.” [14] Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?”He answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.” [15] On the next day, he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on the king’s face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place. [16] In the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being king of Judah then, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. [17] He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign. He reigned eight years in Jerusalem. [18] He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did Ahab’s house, for he married Ahab’s daughter. He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight. [19] However, Yahweh would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always. [20] In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. [21] Then Joram crossed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him; and he rose up by night and struck the Edomites who surrounded him with the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents. [22] So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time. [23] The rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? [24] Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place. [25] In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. [26] Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel. [27] He walked in the way of Ahab’s house and did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, as did Ahab’s house, for he was the son-in-law of Ahab’s house. [28] He went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead, and the Syrians wounded Joram. [29] King Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel from the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

[1] Then spake H1696 (PielPerf) Elisha H477 unto the woman, H802 whose son H1121 he had restored to life, H2421 (HiphPerf) saying, H559 (QalInf) Arise, H6965 (QalImpv) and go H3212 (QalImpv) thou and thine household, H1004 and sojourn H1481 (QalImpv) wheresoever H834 thou canst sojourn: H1481 (QalImpf) for the Lord H3068 hath called H7121 (QalPerf) for a famine; H7458 and it shall also come H935 (QalPerf) upon the land H776 seven H7651 years. H8141 [2] And the woman H802 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and did H6213 (QalImpf) after the saying H1697 of the man H376 of God: H430 and she went H3212 (QalImpf) with her household, H1004 and sojourned H1481 (QalImpf) in the land H776 of the Philistines H6430 seven H7651 years. H8141 [3] And it came to pass at the seven H7651 years’ H8141 end, H7097 that the woman H802 returned H7725 (QalImpf) out of the land H776 of the Philistines: H6430 and she went forth H3318 (QalImpf) to cry H6817 (QalInf) unto the king H4428 for her house H1004 and for her land. H7704 [4] And the king H4428 talked H1696 (PielPtc) with Gehazi H1522 the servant H5288 of the man H376 of God, H430 saying, H559 (QalInf) Tell H5608 (PielImpv) me, I pray thee, all the great things H1419 that Elisha H477 hath done. H6213 (QalPerf) [5] And it came to pass, as he was telling H5608 (PielPtc) the king H4428 how he had restored H2421 a dead body H4191 (QalPtc) to life, H2421 (HiphPerf) that, behold, the woman, H802 whose son H1121 he had restored to life, H2421 (HiphPerf) cried H6817 (QalActPtc) to the king H4428 for her house H1004 and for her land. H7704 And Gehazi H1522 said, H559 (QalImpf) My lord, H113 O king, H4428 this is the woman, H802 and this is her son, H1121 whom Elisha H477 restored to life. H2421 (HiphPerf) [6] And when the king H4428 asked H7592 (QalImpf) the woman, H802 she told H5608 (PielImpf) him. So the king H4428 appointed H5414 (QalImpf) unto her a certain H259 officer, H5631§ saying, H559 (QalInf) Restore H7725 (HiphImpv) all that was her’s, and all the fruits H8393 of the field H7704 since the day H3117 that she left H5800 (QalInf) the land, H776 even until now.Elisha and Hazael
[7] And Elisha H477 came H935 (QalImpf) to Damascus; H1834 and Ben-hadad H1130 the king H4428 of Syria H758 was sick; H2470 (QalActPtc) and it was told H5046 (HophImpf) him, saying, H559 (QalInf) The man H376 of God H430 is come H935 (QalPerf) hither. H2008 [8] And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Hazael, H2371 Take H3947 (QalImpv) a present H4503 in thine hand, H3027 and go, H3212 (QalImpv) meet H7125 (QalInf) the man H376 of God, H430 and enquire H1875 (QalPerf) of the Lord H3068 by him, saying, H559 (QalInf) Shall I recover H2421 (QalImpf) of this disease? H2483 [9] So Hazael H2371 went H3212 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) him, and took H3947 (QalImpf) a present H4503 with him, H3027§ even of every good thing H2898 of Damascus, H1834 forty H705 camels’ H1581 burden, H4853 and came H935 (QalImpf) and stood H5975 (QalImpf) before H6440 him, and said, H559 (QalImpf) Thy son H1121 Ben-hadad H1130 king H4428 of Syria H758 hath sent H7971 (QalPerf) me to thee, saying, H559 (QalInf) Shall I recover H2421 (QalImpf) of this disease? H2483 [10] And Elisha H477 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Go, H3212 (QalImpv) say H559 (QalImpv) unto him, Thou mayest certainly H2421 (QalInf) recover: H2421 (QalImpf) howbeit the Lord H3068 hath shewed H7200 (HiphPerf) me that he shall surely H4191 (QalInf) die. H4191 (QalImpf) [11] And he settled H5975 (HiphImpf) his countenance H6440 stedfastly, H7760 (QalImpf) until he was ashamed: H954 (QalInf) and the man H376 of God H430 wept. H1058 (QalImpf) [12] And Hazael H2371 said, H559 (QalImpf) Why weepeth H1058 (QalActPtc) my lord? H113 And he answered, H559 (QalImpf) Because I know H3045 (QalPerf) the evil H7451 that thou wilt do H6213 (QalImpf) unto the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 their strong holds H4013 wilt thou set H7971 (PielImpf) on fire, H784 and their young men H970 wilt thou slay H2026 (QalImpf) with the sword, H2719 and wilt dash H7376 (PielImpf) their children, H5768 and rip up H1234 (PielImpf) their women with child. H2030 [13] And Hazael H2371 said, H559 (QalImpf) But what, is thy servant H5650 a dog, H3611 that he should do H6213 (QalImpf) this great H1419 thing? H1697 And Elisha H477 answered, H559 (QalImpf) The Lord H3068 hath shewed H7200 (HiphPerf) me that thou shalt be king H4428 over Syria. H758 [14] So he departed H3212 (QalImpf) from Elisha, H477 and came H935 (QalImpf) to his master; H113 who said H559 (QalImpf) to him, What said H559 (QalPerf) Elisha H477 to thee? And he answered, H559 (QalImpf) He told H559 (QalPerf) me that thou shouldest surely H2421 (QalInf) recover. H2421 (QalImpf) [15] And it came to pass on the morrow, H4283 that he took H3947 (QalImpf) a thick cloth, H4346 and dipped H2881 (QalImpf) it in water, H4325 and spread H6566 (QalImpf) it on his face, H6440 so that he died: H4191 (QalImpf) and Hazael H2371 reigned H4427 (QalImpf) in his stead. [16] And in the fifth H2568 year H8141 of Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 king H4428 of Israel, H3478 Jehoshaphat H3092 being then king H4428 of Judah, H3063 Jehoram H3088 the son H1121 of Jehoshaphat H3092 king H4428 of Judah H3063 began to reign. H4427 (QalPerf)§ [17] Thirty H7970 and two H8147 years H8141 old H1121 was he when he began to reign; H4427 (QalInf) and he reigned H4427 (QalPerf) eight H8083 years H8141 in Jerusalem. H3389 [18] And he walked H3212 (QalImpf) in the way H1870 of the kings H4428 of Israel, H3478 as did H6213 (QalPerf) the house H1004 of Ahab: H256 for the daughter H1323 of Ahab H256 was his wife: H802 and he did H6213 (QalImpf) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the Lord. H3068 [19] Yet the Lord H3068 would H14 (QalPerf) not destroy H7843 (HiphInf) Judah H3063 for David H1732 his servant’s H5650 sake, as he promised H559 (QalPerf) him to give H5414 (QalInf) him alway H3117 a light, H5216§ and to his children. H1121 [20] In his days H3117 Edom H123 revolted H6586 (QalPerf) from under the hand H3027 of Judah, H3063 and made H4427 (HiphImpf) a king H4428 over themselves. [21] So Joram H3141 went over H5674 (QalImpf) to Zair, H6811 and all the chariots H7393 with him: and he rose H6965 (QalPerf) by night, H3915 and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) the Edomites H123 which compassed him about, H5437 (QalActPtc) and the captains H8269 of the chariots: H7393 and the people H5971 fled H5127 (QalImpf) into their tents. H168 [22] Yet Edom H123 revolted H6586 (QalImpf) from under the hand H3027 of Judah H3063 unto this day. H3117 Then Libnah H3841 revolted H6586 (QalImpf) at the same H1931 time. H6256 [23] And the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 of Joram, H3141 and all that he did, H6213 (QalPerf) are they not written H3789 (QalPasPtc) in the book H5612 of the chronicles H1697 of the kings H4428 of Judah? H3063 [24] And Joram H3141 slept H7901 (QalImpf) with his fathers, H1 and was buried H6912 (NiphImpf) with his fathers H1 in the city H5892 of David: H1732 and Ahaziah H274 his son H1121 reigned H4427 (QalImpf) in his stead. [25] In the twelfth H8147 year H8141 of Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 king H4428 of Israel H3478 did Ahaziah H274 the son H1121 of Jehoram H3088 king H4428 of Judah H3063 begin to reign. H4427 (QalPerf) [26] Two H8147 and twenty H6242 years H8141 old H1121 was Ahaziah H274 when he began to reign; H4427 (QalInf) and he reigned H4427 (QalPerf) one H259 year H8141 in Jerusalem. H3389 And his mother’s H517 name H8034 was Athaliah, H6271 the daughter H1323 of Omri H6018 king H4428 of Israel. H3478 [27] And he walked H3212 (QalImpf) in the way H1870 of the house H1004 of Ahab, H256 and did H6213 (QalImpf) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the Lord, H3068 as did the house H1004 of Ahab: H256 for he was the son in law H2860 of the house H1004 of Ahab. H256 [28] And he went H3212 (QalImpf) with Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 to the war H4421 against Hazael H2371 king H4428 of Syria H758 in Ramoth-gilead; H7433 and the Syrians H761 wounded H5221 (HiphImpf) Joram. H3141 [29] And king H4428 Joram H3141 went back H7725 (QalImpf) to be healed H7495 (HithInf) in Jezreel H3157 of the wounds H4347 which the Syrians H761§ had given H5221 (HiphImpf)§ him at Ramah, H7414 when he fought H3898 (NiphInf) against Hazael H2371 king H4428 of Syria. H758 And Ahaziah H274 the son H1121 of Jehoram H3088 king H4428 of Judah H3063 went down H3381 (QalPerf) to see H7200 (QalInf) Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 in Jezreel, H3157 because he was sick.
