[1] Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria; he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper. [2] The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little girl, and she waited on Naaman’s wife. [3] She said to her mistress, “I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy.” [4] Someone went in and told his lord, saying, “The girl who is from the land of Israel said this.” [5] The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”He departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing. [6] He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, “Now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.” [7] When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.” [8] It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” [9] So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. [10] Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.” [11] But Naaman was angry, and went away and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.’ [12] Aren’t Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. [13] His servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had asked you do some great thing, wouldn’t you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” [14] Then went he down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. [15] He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, “See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.” [16] But he said, “As Yahweh lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.”He urged him to take it; but he refused. [17] Naaman said, “If not, then, please let two mules’ load of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to Yahweh. [18] In this thing may Yahweh pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may Yahweh pardon your servant in this thing.” [19] He said to him, “Go in peace.”So he departed from him a little way. [20] But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.” [21] So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?” [22] He said, “All is well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’ ” [23] Naaman said, “Be pleased to take two talents.” He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him. [24] When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stored them in the house. Then he let the men go, and they departed. [25] But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you come from, Gehazi?”He said, “Your servant went nowhere.” [26] He said to him, “Didn’t my heart go with you when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants? [27] Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your offspring§ forever.”He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

Healed Naaman the Leper

[1] Now Naaman, H5283 captain H8269 of the host H6635 of the king H4428 of Syria, H758 was a great H1419 man H376 with H6440§ his master, H113 and honourable, H5375 (QalPasPtc) because by him the Lord H3068 had given H5414 (QalPerf) deliverance H8668§ unto Syria: H758 he was also a mighty H1368 man H376 in valour, H2428 but he was a leper. H6879 (PualPtc)
[2] And the Syrians H758 had gone out H3318 (QalPerf) by companies, H1416 and had brought away captive H7617 (QalImpf) out of the land H776 of Israel H3478 a little H6996 maid; H5291 and she waited§ on H6440 Naaman’s H5283 wife. H802 [3] And she said H559 (QalImpf) unto her mistress, H1404 Would H305 God my lord H113 were with§ H6440 the prophet H5030 that is in Samaria! H8111 for H227 he would recover H622 (QalImpf) him of his leprosy. H6883 [4] And one went in, H935 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) his lord, H113 saying, H559 (QalInf) Thus and thus said H1696 (PielPerf) the maid H5291 that is of the land H776 of Israel. H3478 [5] And the king H4428 of Syria H758 said, H559 (QalImpf) Go to, H3212 (QalImpv) go, H935 (QalImpv) and I will send H7971 (QalImpf) a letter H5612 unto the king H4428 of Israel. H3478 And he departed, H3212 (QalImpf) and took H3947 (QalImpf) with him H3027§ ten H6235 talents H3603 of silver, H3701 and six H8337 thousand H505 pieces of gold, H2091 and ten H6235 changes H2487 of raiment. H899 [6] And he brought H935 (HiphImpf) the letter H5612 to the king H4428 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 (QalInf) Now when this letter H5612 is come H935 (QalInf) unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent H7971 (QalPerf) Naaman H5283 my servant H5650 to thee, that thou mayest recover H622 (QalPerf) him of his leprosy. H6883 [7] And it came to pass, when the king H4428 of Israel H3478 had read H7121 (QalInf) the letter, H5612 that he rent H7167 (QalImpf) his clothes, H899 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Am I God, H430 to kill H4191 (HiphInf) and to make alive, H2421 (HiphInf) that this man H2088 doth send H7971 (QalActPtc) unto me to recover H622 (QalInf) a man H376 of his leprosy? H6883 Wherefore H389 consider, H3045 (QalImpv) I pray you, and see H7200 (QalImpv) how he seeketh a quarrel H579 (HithPtc) against me. [8] And it was so, when Elisha H477 the man H376 of God H430 had heard H8085 (QalInf) that the king H4428 of Israel H3478 had rent H7167 (QalPerf) his clothes, H899 that he sent H7971 (QalImpf) to the king, H4428 saying, H559 (QalInf) Wherefore hast thou rent H7167 (QalPerf) thy clothes? H899 let him come H935 (QalImpf) now to me, and he shall know H3045 (QalImpf) that there is H3426 a prophet H5030 in Israel. H3478 [9] So Naaman H5283 came H935 (QalImpf) with his horses H5483 and with his chariot, H7393 and stood H5975 (QalImpf) at the door H6607 of the house H1004 of Elisha. H477 [10] And Elisha H477 sent H7971 (QalImpf) a messenger H4397 unto him, saying, H559 (QalInf) Go H1980 (QalInf) and wash H7364 (QalPerf) in Jordan H3383 seven H7651 times, H6471 and thy flesh H1320 shall come again H7725 (QalImpf) to thee, and thou shalt be clean. H2891 (QalImpv) [11] But Naaman H5283 was wroth, H7107 (QalImpf) and went away, H3212 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, I thought, H559 (QalPerf) He will surely H3318 (QalInf) come out H3318 (QalImpf) to me,§ and stand, H5975 (QalPerf) and call H7121 (QalPerf) on the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 his God, H430 and strike H5130 (HiphPerf)§ his hand H3027 over the place, H4725 and recover H622 (QalPerf) the leper. H6879 (PualPtc) [12] Are not Abana§ H71 (Ketiv) and Pharpar, H6554 rivers H5104 of Damascus, H1834 better H2896 than all the waters H4325 of Israel? H3478 may I not wash H7364 (QalImpf) in them, and be clean? H2891 (QalPerf) So he turned H6437 (QalImpf) and went away H3212 (QalImpf) in a rage. H2534 [13] And his servants H5650 came near, H5066 (QalImpf) and spake H1696 (PielImpf) unto him, and said, H559 (QalImpf) My father, H1 if the prophet H5030 had bid H1696 (PielPerf) thee do some great H1419 thing, H1697 wouldest thou not have done H6213 (QalImpf) it? how much rather then, H637 when he saith H559 (QalPerf) to thee, Wash, H7364 (QalImpv) and be clean? H2891 (QalImpv) [14] Then went he down, H3381 (QalImpf) and dipped H2881 (QalImpf) himself seven H7651 times H6471 in Jordan, H3383 according to the saying H1697 of the man H376 of God: H430 and his flesh H1320 came again H7725 (QalImpf) like unto the flesh H1320 of a little H6996 child, H5288 and he was clean. H2891 (QalImpf) [15] And he returned H7725 (QalImpf) to the man H376 of God, H430 he and all his company, H4264 and came, H935 (QalImpf) and stood H5975 (QalImpf) before H6440 him: and he said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, now I know H3045 (QalPerf) that there is no God H430 in all the earth, H776 but in Israel: H3478 now therefore, I pray thee, take H3947 (QalImpv) a blessing H1293 of thy servant. H5650 [16] But he said, H559 (QalImpf) As the Lord H3068 liveth, H2416 before H6440 whom I stand, H5975 (QalPerf) I will receive H3947 (QalImpf) none. And he urged H6484 (QalImpf) him to take H3947 (QalInf) it; but he refused. H3985 (PielImpf) [17] And Naaman H5283 said, H559 (QalImpf) Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given H5414 (HophImpf) to thy servant H5650 two H6776 mules’ H6505 burden H4853 of earth? H127 for thy servant H5650 will henceforth offer H6213 (QalImpf) neither burnt offering H5930 nor sacrifice H2077 unto other H312 gods, H430 but unto the Lord. H3068 [18] In this thing H1697 the Lord H3068 pardon H5545 (QalImpf) thy servant, H5650 that when my master H113 goeth H935 (QalInf) into the house H1004 of Rimmon H7417 to worship H7812 (HithInf) there, and he leaneth H8172 (NiphPtc) on my hand, H3027 and I bow H7812 (HithPerf) myself in the house H1004 of Rimmon: H7417 when I bow down H7812 (HithInf) myself in the house H1004 of Rimmon, H7417 the Lord H3068 pardon H5545 (QalImpf) thy servant H5650 in this thing. H1697 [19] And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Go H3212 (QalImpv) in peace. H7965 So he departed H3212 (QalImpf) from him a little H3530 way. H776§

Elisha’s Servant

[20] But Gehazi, H1522 the servant H5288 of Elisha H477 the man H376 of God, H430 said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, my master H113 hath spared H2820 (QalPerf) Naaman H5283 this Syrian, H761 in not receiving H3947 (QalInf) at his hands H3027 that which he brought: H935 (HiphPerf) but, as the Lord H3068 liveth, H2416 I will run H7323 (QalPerf) after H310 him, and take H3947 (QalPerf) somewhat H3972 of him.
[21] So Gehazi H1522 followed H7291 (QalImpf) after H310 Naaman. H5283 And when Naaman H5283 saw H7200 (QalImpf) him running H7323 (QalPtc) after H310 him, he lighted down H5307 (QalImpf) from the chariot H4818 to meet H7125 (QalInf) him, and said, H559 (QalImpf) Is all well?§ H7965 [22] And he said, H559 (QalImpf) All is well. H7965 My master H113 hath sent H7971 (QalPerf) me, saying, H559 (QalInf) Behold, even now there be come H935 (QalPerf) to me from mount H2022 Ephraim H669 two H8147 young men H5288 of the sons H1121 of the prophets: H5030 give H5414 (QalImpv) them, I pray thee, a talent H3603 of silver, H3701 and two H8147 changes H2487 of garments. H899 [23] And Naaman H5283 said, H559 (QalImpf) Be content, H2974 (HiphImpv) take H3947 (QalImpv) two talents. H3603 And he urged H6555 (QalImpf) him, and bound H6696 (QalImpf) two H8147 talents H3603 of silver H3701 in two H8147 bags, H2754 with two H8147 changes H2487 of garments, H899 and laid H5414 (QalImpf) them upon two H8147 of his servants; H5288 and they bare H5375 (QalImpf) them before H6440 him. [24] And when he came H935 (QalImpf) to the tower, H6076§ he took H3947 (QalImpf) them from their hand, H3027 and bestowed H6485 (QalImpf) them in the house: H1004 and he let the men H582 go, H7971 (PielImpf) and they departed. H3212 (QalImpf) [25] But he went in, H935 (QalActPtc) and stood H5975 (QalImpf) before his master. H113 And Elisha H477 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Whence H370 comest thou, Gehazi? H1522 And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Thy servant H5650 went H1980 (QalPerf) no whither. H575§ [26] And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Went H1980 (QalPerf) not mine heart H3820 with thee, when the man H376 turned H2015 (QalPerf) again from his chariot H4818 to meet H7125 (QalInf) thee? Is it a time H6256 to receive H3947 (QalInf) money, H3701 and to receive H3947 (QalInf) garments, H899 and oliveyards, H2132 and vineyards, H3754 and sheep, H6629 and oxen, H1241 and menservants, H5650 and maidservants? H8198 [27] The leprosy H6883 therefore of Naaman H5283 shall cleave H1692 (QalImpf) unto thee, and unto thy seed H2233 for ever. H5769 And he went out H3318 (QalImpf) from his presence H6440 a leper H6879 (PualPtc) as white as snow. H7950
