[1] Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria; he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper. [2] The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little girl, and she waited on Naaman’s wife. [3] She said to her mistress, “I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy.” [4] Someone went in and told his lord, saying, “The girl who is from the land of Israel said this.” [5] The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.”He departed, and took with him ten talentsⓘ of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing. [6] He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, “Now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.” [7] When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.” [8] It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” [9] So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. [10] Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.” [11] But Naaman was angry, and went away and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.’ [12] Aren’t Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. [13] His servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had asked you do some great thing, wouldn’t you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” [14] Then went he down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. [15] He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, “See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.” [16] But he said, “As Yahweh lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.”He urged him to take it; but he refused. [17] Naaman said, “If not, then, please let two mules’ load of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to Yahweh. [18] In this thing may Yahweh pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may Yahweh pardon your servant in this thing.” [19] He said to him, “Go in peace.”So he departed from him a little way. [20] But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.” [21] So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?” [22] He said, “All is well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talentⓘ of silver and two changes of clothing.’ ” [23] Naaman said, “Be pleased to take two talents.” He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him. [24] When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stored them in the house. Then he let the men go, and they departed. [25] But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you come from, Gehazi?”He said, “Your servant went nowhere.” [26] He said to him, “Didn’t my heart go with you when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants? [27] Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your offspring§ forever.”He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

[1] Now Naaman,H5283 captainH8269 of the hostH6635 of the kingH4428 of Syria,H758 was a greatH1419 manH376 withH6440 his master,H113 and honourable,H5375(QalPasPtc) because by him the LordH3068 had givenH5414(QalPerf) deliveranceH8668 unto Syria:H758 he was also a mightyH1368 manH376 in valour,H2428 [but he was] a leper.H6879(PualPtc) [2] And the SyriansH758 had gone outH3318(QalPerf) by companies,H1416 and had brought away captiveH7617(QalImpf) out of the landH776 of IsraelH3478 a littleH6996 maid;H5291 and she waited onH6440 Naaman’sH5283 wife.H802 [3] And she saidH559(QalImpf) unto her mistress,H1404 WouldH305 God my lordH113 [were] withH6440 the prophetH5030 that [is] in Samaria!H8111 forH227 he would recoverH622(QalImpf) him of his leprosy.H6883 [4] And [one] went in,H935(QalImpf) and toldH5046(HiphImpf) his lord,H113 saying,H559(QalInf) Thus and thus saidH1696(PielPerf) the maidH5291 that [is] of the landH776 of Israel.H3478 [5] And the kingH4428 of SyriaH758 said,H559(QalImpf) Go to,H3212(QalImpv) go,H935(QalImpv) and I will sendH7971(QalImpf) a letterH5612 unto the kingH4428 of Israel.H3478 And he departed,H3212(QalImpf) and tookH3947(QalImpf) with himH3027 tenH6235 talentsH3603 of silver,H3701 and sixH8337 thousandH505 [pieces] of gold,H2091 and tenH6235 changesH2487 of raiment.H899 [6] And he broughtH935(HiphImpf) the letterH5612 to the kingH4428 of Israel,H3478 saying,H559(QalInf) Now when this letterH5612 is comeH935(QalInf) unto thee, behold, I have [therewith] sentH7971(QalPerf) NaamanH5283 my servantH5650 to thee, that thou mayest recoverH622(QalPerf) him of his leprosy.H6883 [7] And it came to pass, when the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had readH7121(QalInf) the letter,H5612 that he rentH7167(QalImpf) his clothes,H899 and said,H559(QalImpf) [Am] I God,H430 to killH4191(HiphInf) and to make alive,H2421(HiphInf) that this manH2088 doth sendH7971(QalActPtc) unto me to recoverH622(QalInf) a manH376 of his leprosy?H6883 whereforeH389 consider,H3045(QalImpv) I pray you, and seeH7200(QalImpv) how he seeketh a quarrelH579(HithPtc) against me. [8] And it was [so], when ElishaH477 the manH376 of GodH430 had heardH8085(QalInf) that the kingH4428 of IsraelH3478 had rentH7167(QalPerf) his clothes,H899 that he sentH7971(QalImpf) to the king,H4428 saying,H559(QalInf) Wherefore hast thou rentH7167(QalPerf) thy clothes?H899 let him comeH935(QalImpf) now to me, and he shall knowH3045(QalImpf) that there isH3426 a prophetH5030 in Israel.H3478 [9] So NaamanH5283 cameH935(QalImpf) with his horsesH5483 and with his chariot,H7393 and stoodH5975(QalImpf) at the doorH6607 of the houseH1004 of Elisha.H477 [10] And ElishaH477 sentH7971(QalImpf) a messengerH4397 unto him, saying,H559(QalInf) GoH1980(QalInf) and washH7364(QalPerf) in JordanH3383 sevenH7651 times,H6471 and thy fleshH1320 shall come againH7725(QalImpf) to thee, and thou shalt be clean.H2891(QalImpv) [11] But NaamanH5283 was wroth,H7107(QalImpf) and went away,H3212(QalImpf) and said,H559(QalImpf) Behold, I thought,H559(QalPerf) He will surelyH3318(QalInf) come outH3318(QalImpf) to me, and stand,H5975(QalPerf) and callH7121(QalPerf) on the nameH8034 of the LordH3068 his God,H430 and strikeH5130(HiphPerf) his handH3027 over the place,H4725 and recoverH622(QalPerf) the leper.H6879(PualPtc) [12] [Are] not AbanaH71(Ketiv) and Pharpar,H6554 riversH5104 of Damascus,H1834 betterH2896 than all the watersH4325 of Israel?H3478 may I not washH7364(QalImpf) in them, and be clean?H2891(QalPerf) So he turnedH6437(QalImpf) and went awayH3212(QalImpf) in a rage.H2534 [13] And his servantsH5650 came near,H5066(QalImpf) and spakeH1696(PielImpf) unto him, and said,H559(QalImpf) My father,H1 [if] the prophetH5030 had bidH1696(PielPerf) thee [do some] greatH1419 thing,H1697 wouldest thou not have doneH6213(QalImpf) [it]? how much rather then,H637 when he saithH559(QalPerf) to thee, Wash,H7364(QalImpv) and be clean?H2891(QalImpv) [14] Then went he down,H3381(QalImpf) and dippedH2881(QalImpf) himself sevenH7651 timesH6471 in Jordan,H3383 according to the sayingH1697 of the manH376 of God:H430 and his fleshH1320 came againH7725(QalImpf) like unto the fleshH1320 of a littleH6996 child,H5288 and he was clean.H2891(QalImpf) [15] And he returnedH7725(QalImpf) to the manH376 of God,H430 he and all his company,H4264 and came,H935(QalImpf) and stoodH5975(QalImpf) beforeH6440 him: and he said,H559(QalImpf) Behold, now I knowH3045(QalPerf) that [there is] no GodH430 in all the earth,H776 but in Israel:H3478 now therefore, I pray thee, takeH3947(QalImpv) a blessingH1293 of thy servant.H5650 [16] But he said,H559(QalImpf) [As] the LordH3068 liveth,H2416 beforeH6440 whom I stand,H5975(QalPerf) I will receiveH3947(QalImpf) none. And he urgedH6484(QalImpf) him to takeH3947(QalInf) [it]; but he refused.H3985(PielImpf) [17] And NaamanH5283 said,H559(QalImpf) Shall there not then, I pray thee, be givenH5414(HophImpf) to thy servantH5650 twoH6776 mules’H6505 burdenH4853 of earth?H127 for thy servantH5650 will henceforth offerH6213(QalImpf) neither burnt offeringH5930 nor sacrificeH2077 unto otherH312 gods,H430 but unto the Lord.H3068 [18] In this thingH1697 the LordH3068 pardonH5545(QalImpf) thy servant,H5650 [that] when my masterH113 goethH935(QalInf) into the houseH1004 of RimmonH7417 to worshipH7812(HithInf) there, and he leanethH8172(NiphPtc) on my hand,H3027 and I bowH7812(HithPerf) myself in the houseH1004 of Rimmon:H7417 when I bow downH7812(HithInf) myself in the houseH1004 of Rimmon,H7417 the LordH3068 pardonH5545(QalImpf) thy servantH5650 in this thing.H1697 [19] And he saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, GoH3212(QalImpv) in peace.H7965 So he departedH3212(QalImpf) from him a littleH3530 way.H776 [20] But Gehazi,H1522 the servantH5288 of ElishaH477 the manH376 of God,H430 said,H559(QalImpf) Behold, my masterH113 hath sparedH2820(QalPerf) NaamanH5283 this Syrian,H761 in not receivingH3947(QalInf) at his handsH3027 that which he brought:H935(HiphPerf) but, [as] the LordH3068 liveth,H2416 I will runH7323(QalPerf) afterH310 him, and takeH3947(QalPerf) somewhatH3972 of him. [21] So GehaziH1522 followedH7291(QalImpf) afterH310 Naaman.H5283 And when NaamanH5283 sawH7200(QalImpf) [him] runningH7323(QalPtc) afterH310 him, he lighted downH5307(QalImpf) from the chariotH4818 to meetH7125(QalInf) him, and said,H559(QalImpf) [Is] all well?H7965 [22] And he said,H559(QalImpf) All [is] well.H7965 My masterH113 hath sentH7971(QalPerf) me, saying,H559(QalInf) Behold, even now there be comeH935(QalPerf) to me from mountH2022 EphraimH669 twoH8147 young menH5288 of the sonsH1121 of the prophets:H5030 giveH5414(QalImpv) them, I pray thee, a talentH3603 of silver,H3701 and twoH8147 changesH2487 of garments.H899 [23] And NaamanH5283 said,H559(QalImpf) Be content,H2974(HiphImpv) takeH3947(QalImpv) two talents.H3603 And he urgedH6555(QalImpf) him, and boundH6696(QalImpf) twoH8147 talentsH3603 of silverH3701 in twoH8147 bags,H2754 with twoH8147 changesH2487 of garments,H899 and laidH5414(QalImpf) [them] upon twoH8147 of his servants;H5288 and they bareH5375(QalImpf) [them] beforeH6440 him. [24] And when he cameH935(QalImpf) to the tower,H6076 he tookH3947(QalImpf) [them] from their hand,H3027 and bestowedH6485(QalImpf) [them] in the house:H1004 and he let the menH582 go,H7971(PielImpf) and they departed.H3212(QalImpf) [25] But he went in,H935(QalActPtc) and stoodH5975(QalImpf) before his master.H113 And ElishaH477 saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, WhenceH370 [comest thou], Gehazi?H1522 And he said,H559(QalImpf) Thy servantH5650 wentH1980(QalPerf) no whither.H575 [26] And he saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, WentH1980(QalPerf) not mine heartH3820 [with thee], when the manH376 turnedH2015(QalPerf) again from his chariotH4818 to meetH7125(QalInf) thee? [Is it] a timeH6256 to receiveH3947(QalInf) money,H3701 and to receiveH3947(QalInf) garments,H899 and oliveyards,H2132 and vineyards,H3754 and sheep,H6629 and oxen,H1241 and menservants,H5650 and maidservants?H8198 [27] The leprosyH6883 therefore of NaamanH5283 shall cleaveH1692(QalImpf) unto thee, and unto thy seedH2233 for ever.H5769 And he went outH3318(QalImpf) from his presenceH6440 a leperH6879(PualPtc) [as white] as snow.H7950
