[1] On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king. [2] It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus. [3] The king said, “What honor and dignity has been given to Mordecai for this?”Then the king’s servants who attended him said, “Nothing has been done for him.” [4] The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him. [5] The king’s servants said to him, “Behold,§ Haman stands in the court.”The king said, “Let him come in.” [6] So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?”Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?” [7] Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king delights to honor, [8] let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set. [9] Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’ ” [10] Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.” [11] Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, “Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!” [12] Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered. [13] Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him.” [14] While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

[1] On that nightH3915 could notH5074(QalPerf) the kingH4428 sleep,H8142 and he commandedH559(QalImpf) to bringH935(HiphInf) the bookH5612 of recordsH2146 of the chronicles;H1697 and they were readH7121(NiphPtc) beforeH6440 the king.H4428 [2] And it was foundH4672(NiphImpf) written,H3789(QalPasPtc) that MordecaiH4782 had toldH5046(HiphPerf) of BigthanaH904 and Teresh,H8657 twoH8147 of the king’sH4428 chamberlains,H5631 the keepersH8104(QalActPtc) of the door,H5592 who soughtH1245(PielPerf) to layH7971(QalInf) handH3027 on the kingH4428 Ahasuerus.H325 [3] And the kingH4428 said,H559(QalImpf) What honourH3366 and dignityH1420 hath been doneH6213(NiphPerf) to MordecaiH4782 for this? Then saidH559(QalImpf) the king’sH4428 servantsH5288 that ministeredH8334(PielPtc) unto him, There is nothingH1697 doneH6213(NiphPerf) for him. [4] And the kingH4428 said,H559(QalImpf) Who [is] in the court?H2691 Now HamanH2001 was comeH935(QalPerf) into the outwardH2435 courtH2691 of the king’sH4428 house,H1004 to speakH559(QalInf) unto the kingH4428 to hangH8518(QalInf) MordecaiH4782 on the gallowsH6086 that he had preparedH3559(HiphPerf) for him. [5] And the king’sH4428 servantsH5288 saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, Behold, HamanH2001 standethH5975(QalActPtc) in the court.H2691 And the kingH4428 said,H559(QalImpf) Let him come in.H935(QalImpf) [6] So HamanH2001 came in.H935(QalImpf) And the kingH4428 saidH559(QalImpf) unto him, What shall be doneH6213(QalInf) unto the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654(QalPerf) to honour?H3366 Now HamanH2001 thoughtH559(QalImpf) in his heart,H3820 To whom would the kingH4428 delightH2654(QalImpf) to doH6213(QalInf) honourH3366 moreH3148 than to myself? [7] And HamanH2001 answeredH559(QalImpf) the king,H4428 For the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654(QalPerf) to honour,H3366 [8] Let the royalH4438 apparelH3830 be broughtH935(HiphImpf) which the kingH4428 [useth] to wear,H3847(QalPerf) and the horseH5483 that the kingH4428 ridethH7392(QalPerf) upon, and the crownH3804 royalH4438 which is setH5414(NiphPerf) upon his head:H7218 [9] And let this apparelH3830 and horseH5483 be deliveredH5414(QalInf) to the handH3027 of oneH376 of the king’sH4428 most nobleH6579 princes,H8269 that they may arrayH3847(HiphPerf) the manH376 [withal] whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654(QalPerf) to honour,H3366 and bringH7392(HiphPerf) him on horsebackH5483 through the streetH7339 of the city,H5892 and proclaimH7121(QalPerf) beforeH6440 him, Thus shall it be doneH6213(NiphImpf) to the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654(QalPerf) to honour.H3366 [10] Then the kingH4428 saidH559(QalImpf) to Haman,H2001 Make haste,H4116(PielImpv) [and] takeH3947(QalImpv) the apparelH3830 and the horse,H5483 as thou hast said,H1696(PielPerf) and doH6213(QalImpv) even so to MordecaiH4782 the Jew,H3064 that sittethH3427(QalActPtc) at the king’sH4428 gate:H8179 let nothingH1697 failH5307(HiphImpf) of all that thou hast spoken.H1696(PielPerf) [11] Then tookH3947(QalImpf) HamanH2001 the apparelH3830 and the horse,H5483 and arrayedH3847(HiphImpf) Mordecai,H4782 and brought him on horsebackH7392(HiphImpf) through the streetH7339 of the city,H5892 and proclaimedH7121(QalImpf) beforeH6440 him, Thus shall it be doneH6213(NiphImpf) unto the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654(QalPerf) to honour.H3366 [12] And MordecaiH4782 came againH7725(QalImpf) to the king’sH4428 gate.H8179 But HamanH2001 hastedH1765(NiphPerf) to his houseH1004 mourning,H57 and having his headH7218 covered.H2645(QalActPtc) [13] And HamanH2001 toldH5608(PielImpf) ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 and all his friendsH157(QalActPtc) every [thing] that had befallenH7136(QalPerf) him. Then saidH559(QalImpf) his wise menH2450 and ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 unto him, If MordecaiH4782 [be] of the seedH2233 of the Jews,H3064 beforeH6440 whom thou hast begunH2490(HiphPerf) to fall,H5307(QalInf) thou shalt not prevailH3201(QalImpf) against him, but shalt surelyH5307(QalInf) fallH5307(QalImpf) beforeH6440 him.
