[1] Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
[2] “Can a man be profitable to God?
Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
[3] Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?
Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
[4] Is it for your piety that he reproves you,
that he enters with you into judgment?
[5] Isn’t your wickedness great?
Neither is there any end to your iniquities.
[6] For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing,
and stripped the naked of their clothing.
[7] You haven’t given water to the weary to drink,
and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
[8] But as for the mighty man, he had the earth.
The honorable man, he lived in it.
[9] You have sent widows away empty,
and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
[10] Therefore snares are around you.
Sudden fear troubles you,
[11] or darkness, so that you can not see,
and floods of waters cover you. [12] “Isn’t God in the heights of heaven?
See the height of the stars, how high they are!
[13] You say, ‘What does God know?
Can he judge through the thick darkness?
[14] Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see.
He walks on the vault of the sky.’
[15] Will you keep the old way,
which wicked men have trodden,
[16] who were snatched away before their time,
whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
[17] who said to God, ‘Depart from us!’
and, ‘What can the Almighty do for us?’
[18] Yet he filled their houses with good things,
but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
[19] The righteous see it, and are glad.
The innocent ridicule them,
[20] saying, ‘Surely those who rose up against us are cut off.
The fire has consumed their remnant.’ [21] “Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace.
By it, good will come to you.
[22] Please receive instruction from his mouth,
and lay up his words in your heart.
[23] If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up,
if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
[24] Lay your treasure in the dust,
the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
[25] The Almighty will be your treasure,
and precious silver to you.
[26] For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty,
and will lift up your face to God.
[27] You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you.
You will pay your vows.
[28] You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you.
Light will shine on your ways.
[29] When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’
He will save the humble person.
[30] He will even deliver him who is not innocent.
Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”

King James Version
[1] Then EliphazH464 the TemaniteH8489 answeredH6030(QalImpf) and said,H559(QalImpf) [2] Can a manH1397 be profitableH5532(QalImpf) unto God,H410 asH3588 he that is wiseH7919(HiphPtc) may be profitableH5532(QalImpf) unto himself? [3] [Is it] any pleasureH2656 to the Almighty,H7706 that thou art righteous?H6663(QalImpf) or [is it] gainH1215 [to him], that thou makest thy waysH1870 perfect?H8552(HiphImpf) [4] Will he reproveH3198(HiphImpf) thee for fearH3374 of thee? will he enterH935(QalImpf) with thee into judgment?H4941 [5] [Is] not thy wickednessH7451 great?H7227 and thine iniquitiesH5771 infinite?H7093 [6] For thou hast taken a pledgeH2254(QalImpf) from thy brotherH251 for nought,H2600 and strippedH6584(HiphImpf) the nakedH6174 of their clothing.H899 [7] Thou hast not given waterH4325 to the wearyH5889 to drink,H8248(HiphImpf) and thou hast withholdenH4513(QalImpf) breadH3899 from the hungry.H7457 [8] But [as for] the mightyH2220 man,H376 he had the earth;H776 and the honourable manH5375(QalPasPtc) dweltH3427(QalImpf) in it. [9] Thou hast sentH7971(PielPerf) widowsH490 away empty,H7387 and the armsH2220 of the fatherlessH3490 have been broken.H1792(PualImpf) [10] Therefore snaresH6341 [are] round aboutH5439 thee, and suddenH6597 fearH6343 troublethH926(PielImpf) thee; [11] Or darkness,H2822 [that] thou canst not see;H7200(QalImpf) and abundanceH8229 of watersH4325 coverH3680(PielImpf) thee. [12] [Is] not GodH433 in the heightH1363 of heaven?H8064 and beholdH7200(QalImpv) the heightH7218 of the stars,H3556 how highH7311(QalPerf) they are! [13] And thou sayest,H559(QalPerf) How doth GodH410 know?H3045(QalPerf) can he judgeH8199(QalImpf) through the dark cloud?H6205 [14] Thick cloudsH5645 [are] a coveringH5643 to him, that he seethH7200(QalImpf) not; and he walkethH1980(HithImpf) in the circuitH2329 of heaven.H8064 [15] Hast thou markedH8104(QalImpf) the oldH5769 wayH734 which wickedH205 menH4962 have trodden?H1869(QalPerf) [16] Which were cut downH7059(PualPerf) out of time,H6256 whose foundationH3247 was overflownH3332(HophImpf) with a flood:H5104 [17] Which saidH559(QalActPtc) unto God,H410 DepartH5493(QalImpv) from us: and what can the AlmightyH7706 doH6466(QalImpf) for them? [18] Yet he filledH4390(PielPerf) their housesH1004 with goodH2896 [things]: but the counselH6098 of the wickedH7563 is farH7368(QalPerf) from me. [19] The righteousH6662 seeH7200(QalImpf) [it], and are glad:H8055(QalImpf) and the innocentH5355 laugh them to scorn.H3932(QalImpf) [20] WhereasH518 our substanceH7009 is not cut down,H3582(NiphPerf) but the remnantH3499 of them the fireH784 consumeth.H398(QalPerf) [21] AcquaintH5532(HiphImpv) now thyself with him, and be at peace:H7999(QalImpv) thereby goodH2896 shall comeH935(QalImpf) unto thee. [22] Receive,H3947(QalImpv) I pray thee, the lawH8451 from his mouth,H6310 and lay upH7760(QalImpv) his wordsH561 in thine heart.H3824 [23] If thou returnH7725(QalImpf) to the Almighty,H7706 thou shalt be built up,H1129(NiphImpf) thou shalt put awayH7368 iniquityH5766 farH7368(HiphImpf) from thy tabernacles.H168 [24] Then shalt thou lay upH7896(QalInf) goldH1220 asH5921 dust,H6083 and the [gold] of OphirH211 as the stonesH6697 of the brooks.H5158 [25] Yea, the AlmightyH7706 shall be thy defence,H1220 and thou shalt have plentyH8443 of silver.H3701 [26] For then shalt thou have thy delightH6026(HithImpf) in the Almighty,H7706 and shalt lift upH5375(QalImpf) thy faceH6440 unto God.H433 [27] Thou shalt make thy prayerH6279(HiphImpf) unto him, and he shall hearH8085(QalImpf) thee, and thou shalt payH7999(PielImpf) thy vows.H5088 [28] Thou shalt also decreeH1504(QalImpf) a thing,H562 and it shall be establishedH6965(QalImpf) unto thee: and the lightH216 shall shineH5050(QalPerf) upon thy ways.H1870 [29] When [men] are cast down,H8213(HiphPerf) then thou shalt say,H559(QalImpf) [There is] lifting up;H1466 and he shall saveH3467(HiphImpf) the humbleH7807 person.H5869 [30] He shall deliverH4422(PielImpf) the islandH336 of the innocent:H5355 and it is deliveredH4422(NiphPerf) by the purenessH1252 of thine hands.H3709
