[1] “Why aren’t times laid up by the Almighty?
Why don’t those who know him see his days?
[2] There are people who remove the landmarks.
They violently take away flocks, and feed them.
[3] They drive away the donkey of the fatherless,
and they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
[4] They turn the needy out of the way.
The poor of the earth all hide themselves.
[5] Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert,
they go out to their work, seeking diligently for food.
The wilderness yields them bread for their children.
[6] They cut their food in the field.
They glean the vineyard of the wicked.
[7] They lie all night naked without clothing,
and have no covering in the cold.
[8] They are wet with the showers of the mountains,
and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
[9] There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast,
and take a pledge of the poor,
[10] so that they go around naked without clothing.
Being hungry, they carry the sheaves.
[11] They make oil within the walls of these men.
They tread wine presses, and suffer thirst.
[12] From out of the populous city, men groan.
The soul of the wounded cries out,
yet God doesn’t regard the folly. [13] “These are of those who rebel against the light.
They don’t know its ways,
nor stay in its paths.
[14] The murderer rises with the light.
He kills the poor and needy.
In the night he is like a thief.
[15] The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight,
saying, ‘No eye will see me.’
He disguises his face.
[16] In the dark they dig through houses.
They shut themselves up in the daytime.
They don’t know the light.
[17] For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness,
for they know the terrors of the thick darkness. [18] “They are foam on the surface of the waters.
Their portion is cursed in the earth.
They don’t turn into the way of the vineyards.
[19] Drought and heat consume the snow waters,
so does Sheolⓘ those who have sinned.
[20] The womb will forget him.
The worm will feed sweetly on him.
He will be no more remembered.
Unrighteousness will be broken as a tree.
[21] He devours the barren who don’t bear.
He shows no kindness to the widow.
[22] Yet God preserves the mighty by his power.
He rises up who has no assurance of life.
[23] God gives them security, and they rest in it.
His eyes are on their ways.
[24] They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone.
Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others,
and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.
[25] If it isn’t so now, who will prove me a liar,
and make my speech worth nothing?”
Why don’t those who know him see his days?

[1] Why, seeing timesH6256 are not hiddenH6845(NiphPerf) from the Almighty,H7706 do they that knowH3045(QalActPtc) him not seeH2372(QalPerf) his days?H3117 [2] [Some] removeH5381(HiphImpf) the landmarks;H1367 they violently take awayH1497(QalPerf) flocks,H5739 and feedH7462(QalImpf) [thereof]. [3] They drive awayH5090(QalImpf) the assH2543 of the fatherless,H3490 they takeH2254 the widow’sH490 oxH7794 for a pledge.H2254(QalImpf) [4] They turnH5186(HiphImpf) the needyH34 out of the way:H1870 the poorH6041(Qere) of the earthH776 hideH2244(PualPerf) themselves together.H3162 [5] Behold, [as] wild assesH6501 in the desert,H4057 go they forthH3318(QalPerf) to their work;H6467 rising betimesH7836(PielPtc) for a prey:H2964 the wildernessH6160 [yieldeth] foodH3899 for them [and] for [their] children.H5288 [6] They reapH7114(QalImpf/Qere) [every one] his cornH1098 in the field:H7704 and they gatherH3953(PielImpf) the vintageH3754 of the wicked.H7563 [7] They cause the nakedH6174 to lodgeH3885(HiphImpf) without clothing,H3830 that [they have] no coveringH3682 in the cold.H7135 [8] They are wetH7372(QalImpf) with the showersH2230 of the mountains,H2022 and embraceH2263(PielPerf) the rockH6697 for want of a shelter.H4268 [9] They pluckH1497(QalImpf) the fatherlessH3490 from the breast,H7699 and take a pledgeH2254(QalImpf) of the poor.H6041 [10] They cause [him] to goH1980(PielPerf) nakedH6174 without clothing,H3830 and they take awayH5375(QalPerf) the sheafH6016 [from] the hungry;H7457 [11] [Which] make oilH6671(HiphImpf) withinH996 their walls,H7791 [and] treadH1869(QalPerf) [their] winepresses,H3342 and suffer thirst.H6770(QalImpf) [12] MenH4962 groanH5008(QalImpf) from out of the city,H5892 and the soulH5315 of the woundedH2491 crieth out:H7768(PielImpf) yet GodH433 layethH7760(QalImpf) not follyH8604 [to them]. [13] They are of those that rebelH4775(QalActPtc) against the light;H216 they knowH5234(HiphPerf) not the waysH1870 thereof, nor abideH3427(QalPerf) in the pathsH5410 thereof. [14] The murdererH7523(QalActPtc) risingH6965(QalImpf) with the lightH216 killethH6991(QalImpf) the poorH6041 and needy,H34 and in the nightH3915 is as a thief.H1590 [15] The eyeH5869 also of the adultererH5003(QalActPtc) waitethH8104(QalPerf) for the twilight,H5399 saying,H559(QalInf) No eyeH5869 shall seeH7789(QalImpf) me: and disguisethH5643 [his] face.H6440 [16] In the darkH2822 they dig throughH2864(QalPerf) houses,H1004 [which] they had markedH2856(PielPerf) for themselves in the daytime:H3119 they knowH3045(QalPerf) not the light.H216 [17] For the morningH1242 [is] to them even asH3162 the shadow of death:H6757 if [one] knowH5234(HiphImpf) [them, they are in] the terrorsH1091 of the shadow of death.H6757 [18] He [is] swiftH7031 as the waters;H6440 their portionH2513 is cursedH7043(PualImpf) in the earth:H776 he beholdethH6437(QalImpf) not the wayH1870 of the vineyards.H3754 [19] DroughtH6723 and heatH2527 consumeH1497(QalImpf) the snowH7950 waters:H4325 [so doth] the graveH7585 [those which] have sinned.H2398(QalPerf) [20] The wombH7358 shall forgetH7911(QalImpf) him; the wormH7415 shall feed sweetlyH4988(QalPerf) on him; he shall be no more remembered;H2142(NiphImpf) and wickednessH5766 shall be brokenH7665(NiphImpf) as a tree.H6086 [21] He evil entreatethH7462(QalActPtc) the barrenH6135 [that] bearethH3205(QalImpf) not: and doeth not goodH3190(HiphImpf) to the widow.H490 [22] He drawethH4900(QalPerf) also the mightyH47 with his power:H3581 he riseth up,H6965(QalImpf) and no [man] is sureH539(HiphImpf) of life.H2416 [23] [Though] it be givenH5414(QalImpf) him [to be] in safety,H983 whereon he resteth;H8172(NiphImpf) yet his eyesH5869 [are] upon their ways.H1870 [24] They are exaltedH7426(QalPerf) for a little while,H4592 but are gone and brought low;H4355(HophPerf) they are taken outH7092(NiphImpf) of the wayH1870 as all [other], and cut offH5243(QalImpf) as the topsH7218 of the ears of corn.H7641 [25] And if [it be] not [so] now,H645 who will makeH7760(QalImpf) me a liar,H3576(HiphImpf) and makeH7760(QalImpf) my speechH4405 nothing worth?H408
