Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria; he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.

Now Naaman, H5283 captain H8269 of the host H6635 of the king H4428 of Syria, H758 was a great H1419 man H376 with H6440 his master, H113 and honourable, H5375 (QalPasPtc) because by him the Lord H3068 had given H5414 (QalPerf) deliverance H8668 unto Syria: H758 he was also a mighty H1368 man H376 in valour, H2428 [but he was] a leper. και ναιμαν ο αρχων της δυναμεως συριας ην ανηρ μεγας ενωπιον του κυριου αυτου και τεθαυμασμενος προσωπω οτι εν αυτω εδωκεν κυριος σωτηριαν συρια και ο ανηρ ην δυνατος ισχυι λελεπρωμενος

The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” He departed, and took with him ten talents° of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing.

και ειπεν βασιλευς συριας προς ναιμαν δευρο εισελθε και εξαποστελω βιβλιον προς βασιλεα ισραηλ και επορευθη και ελαβεν εν τη χειρι αυτου δεκα ταλαντα αργυριου και εξακισχιλιους χρυσους και δεκα αλλασσομενας στολας

He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, “Now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.”

και ηνεγκεν το βιβλιον προς τον βασιλεα ισραηλ λεγων και νυν ως αν ελθη το βιβλιον τουτο προς σε ιδου απεστειλα προς σε ναιμαν τον δουλον μου και αποσυναξεις αυτον απο της λεπρας αυτου

When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.”

And it came to pass, when the king H4428 of Israel H3478 had read H7121 (QalInf) the letter, H5612 that he rent H7167 (QalImpf) his clothes, H899 and said, H559 (QalImpf) [Am] I God, H430 to kill H4191 (HiphInf) and to make alive, H2421 (HiphInf) that this man H2088 doth send H7971 (QalActPtc) unto me to recover H622 (QalInf) a man H376 of his leprosy? και εγενετο ως ανεγνω βασιλευς ισραηλ το βιβλιον διερρηξεν τα ιματια αυτου και ειπεν μη θεος εγω του θανατωσαι και ζωοποιησαι οτι ουτος αποστελλει προς με αποσυναξαι ανδρα απο της λεπρας αυτου οτι πλην γνωτε δη και ιδετε οτι προφασιζεται ουτος με

It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

And it was [so], when Elisha H477 the man H376 of God H430 had heard H8085 (QalInf) that the king H4428 of Israel H3478 had rent H7167 (QalPerf) his clothes, H899 that he sent H7971 (QalImpf) to the king, H4428 saying, H559 (QalInf) Wherefore hast thou rent H7167 (QalPerf) thy clothes? Now the king of Syria was at war against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”

και βασιλευς συριας ην πολεμων εν ισραηλ και εβουλευσατο προς τους παιδας αυτου λεγων εις τον τοπον τονδε τινα ελμωνι παρεμβαλω

The man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.”

και απεστειλεν ελισαιε προς τον βασιλεα ισραηλ λεγων φυλαξαι μη παρελθειν εν τω τοπω τουτω οτι εκει συρια κεκρυπται

The king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of; and he saved himself there, not once or twice.

The king of Syria’s heart was very troubled about this. He called his servants, and said to them, “Won’t you show me which of us is for the king of Israel?”

και εξεκινηθη η ψυχη βασιλεως συριας περι του λογου τουτου και εκαλεσεν τους παιδας αυτου και ειπεν προς αυτους ουκ αναγγελειτε μοι τις προδιδωσιν με βασιλει ισραηλ

One of his servants said, “No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”

The king of Israel said to Elisha, when he saw them, “My father, shall I strike them? Shall I strike them?”

After this, Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.

And it came to pass after this, H310 that Benhadad H1130 king H4428 of Syria H758 gathered H6908 (QalImpf) all his host, H4264 and went up, H5927 (QalImpf) and besieged H6696 (QalImpf) Samaria. H8111

και εγενετο μετα ταυτα και ηθροισεν υιος αδερ βασιλευς συριας πασαν την παρεμβολην αυτου και ανεβη και περιεκαθισεν σαμαρειαν

As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, saying, “Help, my lord, O king!”

And as the king H4428 of Israel H3478 was passing by H5674 (QalActPtc) upon the wall, H2346 there cried H6817 (QalPerf) a woman H802 unto him, saying, H559 (QalInf) Help, H3467 (HiphImpv) my lord, H113 O king. H4428

και ην ο βασιλευς ισραηλ διαπορευομενος επι του τειχους και γυνη εβοησεν προς αυτον λεγουσα σωσον κυριε βασιλευ

Then the king asked her, “What is your problem?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, H559 (QalImpf) This woman H802 said H559 (QalPerf) unto me, Give H5414 (QalImpv) thy son, H1121 that we may eat H398 (QalImpf) him to day, H3117 and we will eat H398 (QalImpf) my son H1121 to morrow. H4279

και ειπεν αυτη ο βασιλευς τι εστιν σοι και ειπεν η γυνη αυτη ειπεν προς με δος τον υιον σου και φαγομεθα αυτον σημερον και τον υιον μου και φαγομεθα αυτον αυριον

When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. Now he was passing by on the wall, and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth underneath on his body.

And it came to pass, when the king H4428 heard H8085 (QalInf) the words H1697 of the woman, H802 that he rent H7167 (QalImpf) his clothes; H899 and he passed by H5674 (QalActPtc) upon the wall, H2346 and the people H5971 looked, H7200 (QalImpf) and, behold, [he had] sackcloth H8242 within H1004 upon his flesh. Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, “Behold, if Yahweh made windows in heaven, could this thing be?” He said, “Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but will not eat of it.”

Then a lord H7991 on whose hand H3027 the king H4428 leaned H8172 (NiphPtc) answered H6030 (QalImpf) the man H376 of God, H430 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, [if] the Lord H3068 would make H6213 (QalActPtc) windows H699 in heaven, H8064 might this thing H1697 be? And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, thou shalt see H7200 (QalActPtc) [it] with thine eyes, H5869 but shalt not eat H398 (QalImpf) thereof.

και απεκριθη ο τριστατης εφ ον ο βασιλευς επανεπαυετο επι την χειρα αυτου τω ελισαιε και ειπεν ιδου ποιησει κυριος καταρρακτας εν ουρανω μη εσται το ρημα τουτο και ελισαιε ειπεν ιδου συ οψη τοις οφθαλμοις σου και εκειθεν ου φαγη

For the Lord^§ had made the army of the Syrians to hear the sound of chariots and the sound of horses, even the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us.”

και κυριος ακουστην εποιησεν την παρεμβολην συριας φωνην αρματος και φωνην ιππου και φωνην δυναμεως μεγαλης και ειπεν ανηρ προς τον αδελφον αυτου νυν εμισθωσατο εφ ημας βασιλευς ισραηλ τους βασιλεας των χετταιων και τους βασιλεας αιγυπτου του ελθειν εφ ημας

Then they said to one another, “We aren’t doing right. Today is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let’s go and tell the king’s household.”

Then the gatekeepers called out and told it to the king’s household within.

και εβοησαν οι θυρωροι και ανηγγειλαν εις τον οικον του βασιλεως εσω

The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, “I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.’ ”

And the king H4428 arose H6965 (QalImpf) in the night, H3915 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto his servants, H5650 I will now shew H5046 (HiphImpf) you what the Syrians H758 have done H6213 (QalPerf) to us. και ανεστη ο βασιλευς νυκτος και ειπεν προς τους παιδας αυτου αναγγελω δη υμιν α εποιησεν ημιν συρια εγνωσαν οτι πεινωμεν ημεις και εξηλθαν εκ της παρεμβολης και εκρυβησαν εν τω αγρω λεγοντες οτι εξελευσονται εκ της πολεως και συλλημψομεθα αυτους ζωντας και εις την πολιν εισελευσομεθα

Therefore they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent them out to the Syrian army, saying, “Go and see.”

They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the path was full of garments and equipment which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned and told the king.

And they went H3212 (QalImpf) after H310 them unto Jordan: H3383 and, lo, all the way H1870 [was] full H4392 of garments H899 and vessels, H3627 which the Syrians H758 had cast away H7993 (HiphPerf) in their haste. και επορευθησαν οπισω αυτων εως του ιορδανου και ιδου πασα η οδος πληρης ιματιων και σκευων ων ερριψεν συρια εν τω θαμβεισθαι αυτους και επεστρεψαν οι αγγελοι και ανηγγειλαν τω βασιλει

The king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate; and the people trampled over him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

και ο βασιλευς κατεστησεν τον τριστατην εφ ον ο βασιλευς επανεπαυετο επι τη χειρι αυτου επι της πυλης και συνεπατησεν αυτον ο λαος εν τη πυλη και απεθανεν καθα ελαλησεν ο ανθρωπος του θεου ος ελαλησεν εν τω καταβηναι τον αγγελον προς αυτον

It happened as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, “Two seahs° of barley for a shekel,° and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria;”

2 Kings 7:18a 1 seah is about 7 liters or 1.9 gallons or 0.8 pecks
2 Kings 7:18b A shekel is about 10 grams or about 0.35 ounces. In this context, it was probably a silver coin weighing that much.

And it came to pass as the man H376 of God H430 had spoken H1696 (PielInf) to the king, H4428 saying, H559 (QalInf) Two measures H5429 of barley H8184 for a shekel, H8255 and a measure H5429 of fine flour H5560 for a shekel, H8255 shall be to morrow H4279 about this time H6256 in the gate H8179 of Samaria: H8111

και εγενετο καθα ελαλησεν ελισαιε προς τον βασιλεα λεγων διμετρον κριθης σικλου και μετρον σεμιδαλεως σικλου και εσται ως η ωρα αυτη αυριον εν τη πυλη σαμαρειας

At the end of seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines. Then she went out to beg the king for her house and for her land.

And it came to pass at the seven H7651 years’ H8141 end, H7097 that the woman H802 returned H7725 (QalImpf) out of the land H776 of the Philistines: H6430 and she went forth H3318 (QalImpf) to cry H6817 (QalInf) unto the king H4428 for her house H1004 and for her land. H7704

και εγενετο μετα το τελος των επτα ετων και επεστρεψεν η γυνη εκ γης αλλοφυλων εις την πολιν και ηλθεν βοησαι προς τον βασιλεα περι του οικου εαυτης και περι των αγρων εαυτης

Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.”

And the king H4428 talked H1696 (PielPtc) with Gehazi H1522 the servant H5288 of the man H376 of God, H430 saying, H559 (QalInf) Tell H5608 (PielImpv) me, I pray thee, all the great things H1419 that Elisha H477 hath done. H6213 (QalPerf)

και ο βασιλευς ελαλει προς γιεζι το παιδαριον ελισαιε του ανθρωπου του θεου λεγων διηγησαι δη μοι παντα τα μεγαλα α εποιησεν ελισαιε

As he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life begged the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”

And it came to pass, as he was telling H5608 (PielPtc) the king H4428 how he had restored H2421 a dead body H4191 (QalPtc) to life, H2421 (HiphPerf) that, behold, the woman, H802 whose son H1121 he had restored to life, H2421 (HiphPerf) cried H6817 (QalActPtc) to the king H4428 for her house H1004 and for her land. και εγενετο αυτου εξηγουμενου τω βασιλει ως εζωπυρησεν υιον τεθνηκοτα και ιδου η γυνη ης εζωπυρησεν τον υιον αυτης ελισαιε βοωσα προς τον βασιλεα περι του οικου εαυτης και περι των αγρων εαυτης και ειπεν γιεζι κυριε βασιλευ αυτη η γυνη και ουτος ο υιος αυτης ον εζωπυρησεν ελισαιε

When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.”

And when the king H4428 asked H7592 (QalImpf) the woman, H802 she told H5608 (PielImpf) him. So the king H4428 appointed H5414 (QalImpf) unto her a certain H259 officer, H5631 saying, H559 (QalInf) Restore H7725 (HiphImpv) all that [was] hers, and all the fruits H8393 of the field H7704 since the day H3117 that she left H5800 (QalInf) the land, H776 even until now.

και επηρωτησεν ο βασιλευς την γυναικα και διηγησατο αυτω και εδωκεν αυτη ο βασιλευς ευνουχον ενα λεγων επιστρεψον παντα τα αυτης και παντα τα γενηματα του αγρου αυτης απο της ημερας ης κατελιπεν την γην εως του νυν

Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. He was told, “The man of God has come here.”

And Elisha H477 came H935 (QalImpf) to Damascus; H1834 and Benhadad H1130 the king H4428 of Syria H758 was sick; H2470 (QalActPtc) and it was told H5046 (HophImpf) him, saying, H559 (QalInf) The man H376 of God H430 is come H935 (QalPerf) hither. H2008

και ηλθεν ελισαιε εις δαμασκον και υιος αδερ βασιλευς συριας ηρρωστει και ανηγγειλαν αυτω λεγοντες ηκει ο ανθρωπος του θεου εως ωδε

The king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go meet the man of God, and inquire of Yahweh by him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’ ”

και ειπεν ο βασιλευς προς αζαηλ λαβε εν τη χειρι σου μαναα και δευρο εις απαντην τω ανθρωπω του θεου και επιζητησον τον κυριον παρ αυτου λεγων ει ζησομαι εκ της αρρωστιας μου ταυτης

και επορευθη αζαηλ εις απαντην αυτου και ελαβεν μαναα εν τη χειρι αυτου και παντα τα αγαθα δαμασκου αρσιν τεσσαρακοντα καμηλων και ηλθεν και εστη ενωπιον αυτου και ειπεν προς ελισαιε ο υιος σου υιος αδερ βασιλευς συριας απεστειλεν με προς σε λεγων ει ζησομαι εκ της αρρωστιας μου ταυτης

Hazael said, “But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he could do this great thing?” Elisha answered, “Yahweh has shown me that you will be king over Syria.”

So one went on horseback to meet him, and said, “the king says, ‘Is it peace?’ ” Jehu said, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me!” The watchman said, “The messenger came to them, but he isn’t coming back.”

Joram said, “Get ready!” They got his chariot ready. Then Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him on Naboth the Jezreelite’s land.
