2 Kings 9 (WEBP)
[1] Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, “Put your belt on your waist, take this vial of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead.
[2] When you come there, find Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and make him rise up from among his brothers, and take him to an inner room.
[3] Then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, ‘Yahweh says, “I have anointed you king over Israel.” ’ Then open the door, flee, and don’t wait.”
[4] So the young man, the young prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead.
[5] When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting. Then he said, “I have a message for you, captain.” Jehu said, “To which one of us?” He said, “To you, O captain.”
[6] He arose, and went into the house. Then he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have anointed you king over the people of Yahweh, even over Israel.
[7] You must strike your master Ahab’s house, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Yahweh, at the hand of Jezebel.
[8] For the whole house of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall,§ both him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
[9] I will make Ahab’s house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.
[10] The dogs will eat Jezebel on the plot of ground of Jezreel, and there shall be no one to bury her.’ ” Then he opened the door and fled.
[11] When Jehu came out to the servants of his lord and one said to him, “Is all well? Why did this madman come to you?” He said to them, “You know the man and how he talks.”
[12] They said, “That is a lie. Tell us now.” He said, “He said to me, ‘Yahweh says, I have anointed you king over Israel.’ ”
[13] Then they hurried, and each man took his cloak, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, “Jehu is king.”
[14] So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was defending Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria;
[15] but King Joram had returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) Jehu said, “If this is your thinking, then let no one escape and go out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.”
[16] So Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram lay there. Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.
[17] Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company.” Joram said, “Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’ ”
[18] So one went on horseback to meet him, and said, “the king says, ‘Is it peace?’ ” Jehu said, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me!” The watchman said, “The messenger came to them, but he isn’t coming back.”
[19] Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them and said, “The king says, ‘Is it peace?’ ” Jehu answered, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me!”
[20] The watchman said, “He came to them, and isn’t coming back. The driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”
[21] Joram said, “Get ready!” They got his chariot ready. Then Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him on Naboth the Jezreelite’s land.
[22] When Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace, so long as the prostitution of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft abound?”
[23] Joram turned his hands and fled, and said to Ahaziah, “This is treason, Ahaziah!”
[24] Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and struck Joram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
[25] Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, “Pick him up, and throw him in the plot of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how, when you and I rode together after Ahab his father, Yahweh laid this burden on him:
[26] ‘Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons,’ says Yahweh; ‘and I will repay you in this plot of ground,’ says Yahweh. Now therefore take and cast him onto the plot of ground, according to Yahweh’s word.”
[27] But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. Jehu followed after him, and said, “Strike him also in the chariot!” They struck him at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. He fled to Megiddo, and died there.
[28] His servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in David’s city.
[29] In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah began to reign over Judah.
[30] When Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and adorned her head, and looked out at the window.
[31] As Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, “Do you come in peace, Zimri, you murderer of your master?”
[32] He lifted up his face to the window, and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked out at him.
[33] He said, “Throw her down!” So they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses. Then he trampled her under foot.
[34] When he had come in, he ate and drank. Then he said, “See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king’s daughter.”
[35] They went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull, the feet, and the palms of her hands.
[36] Therefore they came back, and told him. He said, “This is Yahweh’s word, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘The dogs will eat the flesh of Jezebel on the plot of Jezreel,
[37] and the body of Jezebel will be as dung on the surface of the field on Jezreel’s land, so that they won’t say, “This is Jezebel.” ’ ”

2 Kings 9 (KJVS)
[1] And Elisha H477 the prophet H5030 called H7121 (8804) one H259 of the children H1121 of the prophets H5030, and said H559 (8799) unto him, Gird up H2296 (8798) thy loins H4975, and take H3947 (8798) this box H6378 of oil H8081 in thine hand H3027, and go H3212 (8798) to Ramothgilead H7433 H1568:
[2] And when thou comest H935 (8804) thither, look out H7200 (8798) there Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Jehoshaphat H3092 the son H1121 of Nimshi H5250, and go in H935 (8804), and make him arise up H6965 (8689) from among H8432 his brethren H251, and carry H935 (8689) him to an inner H2315 chamber H2315;
[3] Then take H3947 (8804) the box H6378 of oil H8081, and pour H3332 (8804) [it] on his head H7218, and say H559 (8804), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, I have anointed H4886 (8804) thee king H4428 over Israel H3478. Then open H6605 (8804) the door H1817, and flee H5127 (8804), and tarry H2442 (8762) not.
[4] So the young man H5288, [even] the young man H5288 the prophet H5030, went H3212 (8799) to Ramothgilead H7433 H1568.
[5] And when he came H935 (8799), behold, the captains H8269 of the host H2428 [were] sitting H3427 (8802); and he said H559 (8799), I have an errand H1697 to thee, O captain H8269. And Jehu H3058 said H559 (8799), Unto which of all us? And he said H559 (8799), To thee, O captain H8269.
[6] And he arose H6965 (8799), and went H935 (8799) into the house H1004; and he poured H3332 (8799) the oil H8081 on his head H7218, and said H559 (8799) unto him, Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478, I have anointed H4886 (8804) thee king H4428 over the people H5971 of the LORD H3068, [even] over Israel H3478.
[7] And thou shalt smite H5221 (8689) the house H1004 of Ahab H256 thy master H113, that I may avenge H5358 (8765) the blood H1818 of my servants H5650 the prophets H5030, and the blood H1818 of all the servants H5650 of the LORD H3068, at the hand H3027 of Jezebel H348.
[8] For the whole house H1004 of Ahab H256 shall perish H6 (8804): and I will cut off H3772 (8689) from Ahab H256 him that pisseth H8366 (8688) against the wall H7023, and him that is shut up H6113 (8803) and left H5800 (8803) in Israel H3478:
[9] And I will make H5414 (8804) the house H1004 of Ahab H256 like the house H1004 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028, and like the house H1004 of Baasha H1201 the son H1121 of Ahijah H281:
[10] And the dogs H3611 shall eat H398 (8799) Jezebel H348 in the portion H2506 of Jezreel H3157, and [there shall be] none to bury H6912 (8802) [her]. And he opened H6605 (8799) the door H1817, and fled H5127 (8799).
[11] Then Jehu H3058 came forth H3318 (8804) to the servants H5650 of his lord H113: and [one] said H559 (8799) unto him, [Is] all well H7965? wherefore came H935 (8804) this mad H7696 (8794) [fellow] to thee? And he said H559 (8799) unto them, Ye know H3045 (8804) the man H376, and his communication H7879.
[12] And they said H559 (8799), [It is] false H8267; tell H5046 (8685) us now. And he said H559 (8799), Thus and thus spake H559 (8804) he to me, saying H559 (8800), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, I have anointed H4886 (8804) thee king H4428 over Israel H3478.
[13] Then they hasted H4116 (8762), and took H3947 (8799) every man H376 his garment H899, and put H7760 (8799) [it] under him on the top H1634 of the stairs H4609, and blew H8628 (8799) with trumpets H7782, saying H559 (8799), Jehu H3058 is king H4427 (8804).
[14] So Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Jehoshaphat H3092 the son H1121 of Nimshi H5250 conspired H7194 (8691) against Joram H3141. (Now Joram H3141 had kept H8104 (8802) Ramothgilead H7433 H1568, he and all Israel H3478, because H6440 of Hazael H2371 king H4428 of Syria H758.
[15] But king H4428 Joram H3088 was returned H7725 (8799) to be healed H7495 (8692) in Jezreel H3157 of the wounds H4347 which the Syrians H761 had given H5221 (8686) him, when he fought H3898 (8736) with Hazael H2371 king H4428 of Syria H758.) And Jehu H3058 said H559 (8799), If it be H3426 your minds H5315, [then] let none H408 go forth H3318 (8799) [nor] escape H6412 out of the city H5892 to go H3212 (8800) to tell H5046 (8687) [it] in Jezreel H3157.
[16] So Jehu H3058 rode in a chariot H7392 (8799), and went H3212 (8799) to Jezreel H3157; for Joram H3141 lay H7901 (8802) there. And Ahaziah H274 king H4428 of Judah H3063 was come down H3381 (8804) to see H7200 (8800) Joram H3141.
[17] And there stood H5975 (8802) a watchman H6822 (8802) on the tower H4026 in Jezreel H3157, and he spied H7200 (8799) the company H8229 of Jehu H3058 as he came H935 (8800), and said H559 (8799), I see H7200 (8802) a company H8229. And Joram H3088 said H559 (8799), Take H3947 (8798) an horseman H7395, and send H7971 (8798) to meet H7125 (8800) them, and let him say H559 (8799), [Is it] peace H7965?
[18] So there went H3212 (8799) one on horseback H7392 (8802) H5483 to meet H7125 (8800) him, and said H559 (8799), Thus saith H559 (8804) the king H4428, [Is it] peace H7965? And Jehu H3058 said H559 (8799), What hast thou to do with peace H7965? turn H5437 (8798) thee behind H310 me. And the watchman H6822 (8802) told H5046 (8686), saying H559 (8800), The messenger H4397 came H935 (8804) to them, but he cometh not again H7725 (8804).
[19] Then he sent out H7971 (8799) a second H8145 on horseback H7392 (8802) H5483, which came H935 (8799) to them, and said H559 (8799), Thus saith H559 (8804) the king H4428, [Is it] peace H7965? And Jehu H3058 answered H559 (8799), What hast thou to do with peace H7965? turn H5437 (8798) thee behind H310 me.
[20] And the watchman H6822 (8802) told H5046 (8686), saying H559 (8800), He came H935 (8804) even unto them, and cometh not again H7725 (8804): and the driving H4491 [is] like the driving H4491 of Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Nimshi H5250; for he driveth H5090 (8799) furiously H7697.
[21] And Joram H3088 said H559 (8799), Make ready H631 (8798). And his chariot H7393 was made ready H631 (8799). And Joram H3088 king H4428 of Israel H3478 and Ahaziah H274 king H4428 of Judah H3063 went out H3318 (8799), each H376 in his chariot H7393, and they went out H3318 (8799) against H7125 (8800) Jehu H3058, and met H4672 (8799) him in the portion H2513 of Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158.
[22] And it came to pass, when Joram H3088 saw H7200 (8800) Jehu H3058, that he said H559 (8799), [Is it] peace H7965, Jehu H3058? And he answered H559 (8799), What peace H7965, so long as H5704 the whoredoms H2183 of thy mother H517 Jezebel H348 and her witchcrafts H3785 [are so] many H7227?
[23] And Joram H3088 turned H2015 (8799) his hands H3027, and fled H5127 (8799), and said H559 (8799) to Ahaziah H274, [There is] treachery H4820, O Ahaziah H274.
[24] And Jehu H3058 drew a bow H7198 with his full H4390 (8765) strength H3027, and smote H5221 (8686) Jehoram H3088 between his arms H2220, and the arrow H2678 went out H3318 (8799) at his heart H3820, and he sunk down H3766 (8799) in his chariot H7393.
[25] Then said H559 (8799) [Jehu] to Bidkar H920 his captain H7991, Take up H5375 (8798), [and] cast H7993 (8685) him in the portion H2513 of the field H7704 of Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158: for remember H2142 (8798) how that, when I and thou rode H7392 (8802) together H6776 after H310 Ahab H256 his father H1, the LORD H3068 laid H5375 (8804) this burden H4853 upon him;
[26] Surely I have seen H7200 (8804) yesterday H570 the blood H1818 of Naboth H5022, and the blood H1818 of his sons H1121, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068; and I will requite H7999 (8765) thee in this plat H2513, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068. Now therefore take H5375 (8798) [and] cast H7993 (8685) him into the plat H2513 [of ground], according to the word H1697 of the LORD H3068.
[27] But when Ahaziah H274 the king H4428 of Judah H3063 saw H7200 (8804) [this], he fled H5127 (8799) by the way H1870 of the garden H1588 house H1004. And Jehu H3058 followed H7291 (8799) after H310 him, and said H559 (8799), Smite H5221 (8685) him also in the chariot H4818. [And they did so] at the going up H4608 to Gur H1483, which [is] by Ibleam H2991. And he fled H5127 (8799) to Megiddo H4023, and died H4191 (8799) there.
[28] And his servants H5650 carried H7392 (8686) him in a chariot to Jerusalem H3389, and buried H6912 (8799) him in his sepulchre H6900 with his fathers H1 in the city H5892 of David H1732.
[29] And in the eleventh H259 H6240 H8141 year H8141 of Joram H3141 the son H1121 of Ahab H256 began Ahaziah H274 to reign H4427 (8804) over Judah H3063.
[30] And when Jehu H3058 was come H935 (8799) to Jezreel H3157, Jezebel H348 heard H8085 (8804) [of it]; and she painted H7760 (8799) H6320 her face H5869, and tired H3190 (8686) her head H7218, and looked out H8259 (8686) at a window H2474.
[31] And as Jehu H3058 entered in H935 (8804) at the gate H8179, she said H559 (8799), [Had] Zimri H2174 peace H7965, who slew H2026 (8802) his master H113?
[32] And he lifted up H5375 (8799) his face H6440 to the window H2474, and said H559 (8799), Who [is] on my side? who? And there looked out H8259 (8686) to him two H8147 [or] three H7969 eunuchs H5631.
[33] And he said H559 (8799), Throw her down H8058 (8798). So they threw her down H8058 (8799): and [some] of her blood H1818 was sprinkled H5137 (8799) on the wall H7023, and on the horses H5483: and he trode her under foot H7429 (8799).
[34] And when he was come in H935 (8799), he did eat H398 (8799) and drink H8354 (8799), and said H559 (8799), Go H6485 (8798), see now this cursed H779 (8803) [woman], and bury H6912 (8798) her: for she [is] a king’s H4428 daughter H1323.
[35] And they went H3212 (8799) to bury H6912 (8800) her: but they found H4672 (8804) no more of her than H518 the skull H1538, and the feet H7272, and the palms H3709 of [her] hands H3027.
[36] Wherefore they came again H7725 (8799), and told H5046 (8686) him. And he said H559 (8799), This [is] the word H1697 of the LORD H3068, which he spake H1696 (8765) by H3027 his servant H5650 Elijah H452 the Tishbite H8664, saying H559 (8800), In the portion H2506 of Jezreel H3157 shall dogs H3611 eat H398 (8799) the flesh H1320 of Jezebel H348:
[37] And the carcase H5038 of Jezebel H348 shall be as dung H1828 upon the face H6440 of the field H7704 in the portion H2506 of Jezreel H3157; [so] that they shall not say H559 (8799), This [is] Jezebel H348.
Young’s Literal Translation
2 Kings 9 (YLT)
[1] And Elisha the prophet hath called to one of the sons of the prophets, and saith to him, ‘Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-Gilead,
[2] and thou hast gone in there, and see thou there Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, and thou hast gone in, and caused him to rise out of the midst of his brethren, and brought him in to the inner part of an inner-chamber,
[3] and taken the vial of oil, and poured on his head, and said, Thus said Jehovah, I have anointed thee for king unto Israel; and thou hast opened the door, and fled, and dost not wait.’
[4] And the young man goeth-the young man the prophet-to Ramoth-Gilead,
[5] and cometh in, and lo, chiefs of the force are sitting, and he saith, ‘I have a word unto thee, O chief!’ and Jehu saith, ‘Unto which of all of us?’ and he saith, ‘Unto thee, O chief.’
[6] And he riseth and cometh in to the house, and he poureth the oil on his head, and saith to him, ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I have anointed thee for king unto the people of Jehovah, unto Israel,
[7] and thou hast smitten the house of Ahab thy lord, and I have required the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, from the hand of Jezebel;
[8] and perished hath all the house of Ahab, and I have cut off to Ahab those sitting on the wall, and restrained, and left, in Israel,
[9] and I have given up the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and as the house of Baasha son of Ahijah,
[10] and Jezebel do the dogs eat in the portion of Jezreel, and there is none burying;’ and he openeth the door and fleeth.
[11] And Jehu hath gone out unto the servants of his lord, and one saith to him, ‘Is there peace? wherefore came this madman unto thee?’ and he saith unto them, ‘Ye have known the man and his talk.’
[12] And they say, ‘False, declare, we pray thee, to us;’ and he saith, ‘Thus and thus spake he unto me, saying, Thus said Jehovah, I have anointed thee for king unto Israel.’
[13] And they haste and take each his garment, and put it under him at the top of the stairs, and blow with a trumpet, and say, ‘Reigned hath Jehu!’
[14] And Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, conspireth against Joram-(and Joram was keeping in Ramoth-Gilead, he and all Israel, from the presence of Hazael king of Aram,
[15] and king Joram turneth back to be healed in Jezreel, of the wounds with which the Aramaeans smite him, in his fighting with Hazael king of Aram)-and Jehu saith, ‘If it is your mind, let not an escaped one go out from the city, to go to declare it in Jezreel.’
[16] And Jehu rideth, and goeth to Jezreel, for Joram is lying there, and Ahaziah king of Judah hath gone down to see Joram.
[17] And the watchman is standing on the tower in Jezreel, and seeth the company of Jehu in his coming, and saith, ‘A company I see;’ and Joram saith, ‘Take a rider and send to meet them, and let him say, Is there peace?’
[18] and the rider on the horse goeth to meet him, and saith, ‘Thus said the king, Is there peace?’ and Jehu saith, ‘What-to thee and to peace? turn round behind me.’ And the watchman declareth, saying, ‘The messenger came unto them, and he hath not returned.’
[19] And he sendeth a second rider on a horse, and he cometh in unto them, and saith, ‘Thus said the king, Is there peace?’ and Jehu saith, ‘What-to thee and to peace? turn round behind me.’
[20] And the watchman declareth, saying, ‘He came unto them, and he hath not returned, and the driving is like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi, for with madness he driveth.’
[21] And Jehoram saith, ‘Harness;’ and his chariot is harnessed, and Jehoram king of Israel goeth out, and Ahaziah king of Judah, each in his chariot, and they go out to meet Jehu, and find him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
[22] And it cometh to pass, at Jehoram’s seeing Jehu, that he saith, ‘Is there peace, Jehu?’ and he saith, ‘What is the peace, while the whoredoms of Jezebel thy mother, and her witchcrafts, are many?’
[23] And Jehoram turneth his hands, and fleeth, and saith unto Ahaziah, ‘Deceit, O Ahaziah!’
[24] And Jehu hath filled his hand with a bow, and smiteth Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow goeth out from his heart, and he boweth down in his chariot.
[25] And Jehu saith unto Bidkar his captain, ‘Lift up, cast him into the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite-for, remember, I and thou were riding together after Ahab his father, and Jehovah lifted upon him this burden:
[26] Have I not the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons seen yesternight-the affirmation of Jehovah-yea, I have recompensed to thee in this portion-the affirmation of Jehovah;-and now, lift up, cast him into the portion, according to the word of Jehovah.’
[27] And Ahaziah king of Judah hath seen, and fleeth the way of the garden-house, and Jehu pursueth after him, and saith, ‘Smite him-also him-in the chariot,’ in the going up to Gur, that is Ibleam, and he fleeth to Megiddo, and dieth there,
[28] and his servants carry him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and bury him in his burying-place, with his fathers, in the city of David.
[29] And in the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab reign did Ahaziah over Judah.
[30] And Jehu cometh in to Jezreel, and Jezebel hath heard, and putteth her eyes in paint and maketh right her head, and looketh out through the window.
[31] And Jehu hath come into the gate, and she saith, ‘Was there peace to Zimri-slayer of his lord?’
[32] And he lifteth up his face unto the window, and saith, ‘Who is with me?-who?’ and look out unto him do two or three eunuchs;
[33] And he saith, ‘Let her go;’ and they let her go, and some of her blood is sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses, and he treadeth her down.
[34] And he cometh in, and eateth, and drinketh, and saith, ‘Look after, I pray you, this cursed one, and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.’
[35] And they go to bury her, and have not found of her except the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.
[36] And they turn back, and declare to him, and he saith, ‘The word of Jehovah it is, that He spake by the hand of this servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel do the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel,
[37] and the carcase of Jezebel hath been as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, that they say not, This is Jezebel.’
