“ ‘As the bad figs, which can’t be eaten, they are so bad,’ surely Yahweh says, ‘So I will give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.

And like the bad figs, that are not eaten for badness, Surely thus said Jehovah: So do I make Zedekiah king of Judah, And his heads, and the remnant of Jerusalem, Who are left in this land, And who are dwelling in the land of Egypt,

saying, “Return now everyone from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that Yahweh has given to you and to your fathers, from of old and even forever more.

They said, H559 (QalInf) Turn ye again H7725 (QalImpv) now every one H376 from his evil H7451 way, H1870 and from the evil H7455 of your doings, H4611 and dwell H3427 (QalImpv) in the land H127 that the Lord H3068 hath given H5414 (QalPerf) unto you and to your fathers H1 for H5704 ever H5769 and ever: H5769

‘Turn back, I pray you, each from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell on the ground that Jehovah hath given to you and to your fathers from age unto age,

They will drink, and reel back and forth, and be insane, because of the sword that I will send among them.”

And they shall drink, H8354 (QalPerf) and be moved, H1607 (HipoPerf) and be mad, H1984 (HipoImpv) because H6440 of the sword H2719 that I will send H7971 (QalActPtc) among them.

And they have drunk, and shaken themselves and shewn themselves foolish, because of the sword that I am sending among them.

“You shall tell them, ‘Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Drink, and be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.” ’

And thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts God of Israel, Drink ye, yea drink abundantly, And vomit, and fall, and rise not, Because of the sword that I am sending among you.

The peaceful folds are brought to silence because of the fierce anger of Yahweh.

And the peaceable H7965 habitations H4999 are cut down H1826 (NiphPerf) because H6440 of the fierce H2740 anger H639 of the Lord. H3068

And the peaceable habitations have been cut down, Because of the fierceness of the anger of Jehovah.

He has left his covert, as the lion; for their land has become an astonishment because of the fierceness of the oppression, and because of his fierce anger.

It may be they will listen, and every man turn from his evil way, that I may relent from the evil which I intend to do to them because of the evil of their doings.’ ”

If so be they hearken, and turn back each from his evil way, then I have repented concerning the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, because of the evil of their doings.

Yahweh of Armies says: “Behold, I will send on them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like rotten figs that can’t be eaten, they are so bad.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 Behold, I will send H7971 (PielPtc) upon them the sword, H2719 the famine, H7458 and the pestilence, H1698 and will make H5414 (QalPerf) them like vile H8182 figs, H8384 that cannot be eaten, H398 (NiphImpf) they are so evil. H7455

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Lo, I am sending among them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and I have given them up as figs that are vile, that are not eaten for badness.

A curse will be taken up about them by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, ‘Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;’

And of them shall be taken up H3947 (PualPerf) a curse H7045 by all the captivity H1546 of Judah H3063 which [are] in Babylon, H894 saying, H559 (QalInf) The Lord H3068 make H7760 (QalImpf) thee like Zedekiah H6667 and like Ahab, H256 whom the king H4428 of Babylon H894 roasted H7033 (QalPerf) in the fire; H784

And taken from them hath been a reviling by all the removed of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah doth set thee as Zedekiah, and as Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted with fire;

For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.

For the Lord H3068 hath redeemed H6299 (QalPerf) Jacob, H3290 and ransomed H1350 (QalPerf) him from the hand H3027 of [him that was] stronger H2389 than he.

For Jehovah hath ransomed Jacob, And redeemed him from a hand stronger than he.

“If these ordinances depart from before me,” says Yahweh, “then the offspring of Israel also will cease from being a nation before me forever.”

If these statutes depart from before Me, An affirmation of Jehovah, Even the seed of Israel doth cease From being a nation before Me all the days.

Yahweh says: “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done,” says Yahweh.

Thus said Jehovah: If the heavens above be measured, And the foundations of earth below searched, Even I kick against all the seed of Israel, For all that they have done, An affirmation of Jehovah.

“Ah Lord Yahweh! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you.

“Behold, siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Behold, you see it.

“Behold, I am Yahweh, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me?

‘Lo, I am Jehovah, God of all flesh: For Me is anything too wonderful?

Yahweh of Armies says: “Yet again there will be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all its cities, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 Again in this place, H4725 which is desolate H2720 without man H120 and without beast, H929 and in all the cities H5892 thereof, shall be an habitation H5116 of shepherds H7462 (QalActPtc) causing [their] flocks H6629 to lie down. Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Again there is in this place-that is waste, Without man and beast, And in all its cities-a habitation of shepherds, Causing the flock to lie down.

The Levitical priests won’t lack a man before me to offer burnt offerings, to burn meal offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.”

Neither shall the priests H3548 the Levites H3881 want H3772 (NiphImpf) a man H376 before H6440 me to offer H5927 (HiphPtc) burnt offerings, H5930 and to kindle H6999 (HiphPtc) meat offerings, H4503 and to do H6213 (QalActPtc) sacrifice H2077 continually. H3117

And to the priests-the Levites, Not cut off from before Me is one, Causing a burnt-offering to ascend, And perfuming a present, and making sacrifice-all the days.’

“Don’t consider what this people has spoken, saying, ‘Has Yahweh cast off the two families which he chose?’ Thus they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.”

‘Hast thou not considered what this people have spoken, saying: The two families on which Jehovah fixed, He doth reject them, And my people they despise- So that they are no more a people before them!

and I brought them into Yahweh’s house, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

and it cometh to pass, in the coming up of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon unto the land, that we say, Come, and we enter Jerusalem, because of the force of the Chaldeans, and because of the force of Aram-and we dwell in Jerusalem.’

Then Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.”

Then Baruch H1263 answered H559 (QalImpf) them, He pronounced H7121 (QalImpf) all these words H1697 unto me with his mouth, H6310 and I wrote H3789 (QalActPtc) [them] with ink H1773 in the book. H5612

And Baruch saith to them, ‘From his mouth, he pronounceth unto me all these words, and I am writing on the book with ink.’

So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king, and in the hearing of all the princes who stood beside the king.

And the king sendeth Jehudi to take the roll, and he taketh it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi readeth it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the heads who are standing by the king;

When the army of the Chaldeans had withdrawn from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

And it hath come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,

“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. He is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.”

‘My lord, O king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit, and he dieth in his place because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.’

But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, who had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

And of the poor people, who have nothing, hath Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, left in the land of Judah, and he giveth to them vineyards and fields on the same day.

Now the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (this was that which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.

Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, to serve other gods that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.

because of their wickedness that they have done, by provoking Me to anger, by going to make perfume, by serving other gods, that they knew not, they, ye, and your fathers.

I will take the remnant of Judah that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they will all be consumed. They will fall in the land of Egypt. They will be consumed by the sword and by the famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine. They will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach.

And I will take H3947 (QalPerf) the remnant H7611 of Judah, H3063 that have set H7760 (QalPerf) their faces H6440 to go H935 (QalInf) into the land H776 of Egypt H4714 to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) there, and they shall all be consumed, H8552 (QalPerf) [and] fall H5307 (QalImpf) in the land H776 of Egypt; H4714 they shall [even] be consumed H8552 (NiphImpf) by the sword H2719 [and] by the famine: H7458 they shall die, H4191 (QalImpf) from the least H6996 even unto the greatest, H1419 by the sword H2719 and by the famine: H7458 and they shall be an execration, H423 [and] an astonishment, H8047 and a curse, H7045 and a reproach. and I have taken the remnant of Judah, who have set their faces to enter the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they have all been consumed in the land of Egypt; they fall by sword, by famine they are consumed, from the least even unto the greatest, by sword and by famine they die, and they have been for an execration, for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach.

But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.”

‘And from the time we have ceased to make perfume to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out to her libations, we have lacked all, and by sword and by famine we have been consumed,

The women said, “When we burned incense to the queen of the sky and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”

and when we are making perfume to the queen of the heavens, and pouring out to her libations-without our husbands have we made for her cakes to idolize her, and to pour out to her libations?’

Thus Yahweh could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation, an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is today.

So that the Lord H3068 could H3201 (QalImpf) no longer bear, H5375 (QalInf) because H6440 of the evil H7455 of your doings, H4611 [and] because H6440 of the abominations H8441 which ye have committed; H6213 (QalPerf) therefore is your land H776 a desolation, H2723 and an astonishment, H8047 and a curse, H7045 without an inhabitant, H3427 (QalActPtc) as at this day. H3117

And Jehovah is not able any more to accept you, because of the evil of your doings, because of the abominations that ye have done, and your land is for a waste, and for an astonishment, and for a reviling, without inhabitant, as at this day.

Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed Yahweh’s voice, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is today.”

Because H6440 H834 ye have burned incense, H6999 (PielPerf) and because ye have sinned H2398 (QalPerf) against the Lord, H3068 and have not obeyed H8085 (QalPerf) the voice H6963 of the Lord, H3068 nor walked H1980 (QalPerf) in his law, H8451 nor in his statutes, H2708 nor in his testimonies; H5715 therefore this evil H7451 is happened H7122 (QalPerf) unto you, as at this day. ‘Because that ye have made perfume, and because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and in His law, and in His statutes, and in His testimonies ye have not walked, therefore hath this evil met you as at this day.’

Those who escape the sword will return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah few in number. All the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, will know whose word will stand, mine or theirs.

Yet a small H4962 number H4557 that escape H6412 the sword H2719 shall return out H7725 (QalImpf) of the land H776 of Egypt H4714 into the land H776 of Judah, H3063 and all the remnant H7611 of Judah, H3063 that are gone H935 (QalActPtc) into the land H776 of Egypt H4714 to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) there, shall know H3045 (QalPerf) whose words H1697 shall stand, H6965 (QalImpf) mine, or theirs.

‘And the escaped of the sword turn back out of the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, few in number, and known have all the remnant of Judah who are coming into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, whose word is established, Mine or theirs.

You daughter who dwells in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Memphis will become a desolation, and will be burned up, without inhabitant.

For a nation comes up out of the north against her, which will make her land desolate, and no one will dwell in it. They have fled. They are gone, both man and animal.
