Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried God’s ark to Jerusalem again; and they stayed there.

and if to the city thou dost turn back, and hast said to Absalom, Thy servant I am, O king; servant of thy father I am also hitherto, and now, I am also thy servant; then thou hast made void for me the counsel of Ahithophel;

The king said, “Where is your master’s son?” Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is staying in Jerusalem; for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will restore me the kingdom of my father.’ ”

And the king saith, ‘And where is the son of thy lord?’ and Ziba saith unto the king, ‘Lo, he is abiding in Jerusalem, for he said, To-day do the house of Israel give back to me the kingdom of my father.’

Yahweh has returned on you all the blood of Saul’s house, in whose place you have reigned! Yahweh has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son! Behold, you are caught by your own mischief, because you are a man of blood!”

Jehovah hath turned back on thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned, and Jehovah doth give the kingdom in to the hand of Absalom thy son; and lo, thou art in thine evil, for a man of blood thou art.’

It may be that Yahweh will look on the wrong done to me, and that Yahweh will repay me good for the cursing of me today.”

it may be Jehovah doth look on mine affliction, and Jehovah hath turned back to me good for his reviling this day.’

and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned. All the people shall be in peace.”

and I bring back all the people unto thee-as the turning back of the whole is the man whom thou art seeking-all the people are peace.

Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman said to them, “They have gone over the brook of water.” When they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab held the people back.

King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, “Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house, since the speech of all Israel has come to the king, to return him to his house?

You are my brothers. You are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?’

So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.”

All the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over. Then the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

And all the people pass over the Jordan, and the king hath passed over, and the king giveth a kiss to Barzillai, and blesseth him, and he turneth back to his place.

The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

And the men of Israel answer the men of Judah, and say, ‘Ten parts we have in the king, and also in David more than you; and wherefore have ye lightly esteemed us, that our word hath not been first to bring back our king?’ And the word of the men of Judah is sharper than the word of the men of Israel.

Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

Yahweh rewarded me according to my righteousness. He rewarded me according to the cleanness of my hands.

The Lord H3068 rewarded H1580 (QalImpf) me according to my righteousness: H6666 according to the cleanness H1252 of my hands H3027 hath he recompensed H7725 (HiphImpf) me.

Jehovah recompenseth me, According to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands, He doth return to me.

Therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness in his eyesight.

Therefore the Lord H3068 hath recompensed H7725 (HiphImpf) me according to my righteousness; H6666 according to my cleanness H1252 in his eye sight. H5048 H5869

And Jehovah returneth to me, According to my righteousness, According to my cleanness before His eyes.

I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them. I didn’t turn again until they were consumed.

So Gad came to David, and told him, saying, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”

And Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, ‘Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary-and he pursuing thee? or are three days’ pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.’

Now I ask one petition of you. Don’t deny me.” She said to him, “Say on.”

and now, one petition I am asking of thee-turn not back my face;’ and she saith unto him, ‘Speak.’

He said, “Please speak to Solomon the king (for he will not tell you ‘no’), that he give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife.”

And he saith, ‘Speak, I pray thee, to Solomon the king, for he doth not turn back thy face, and he doth give to me Abishag the Shunammite for a wife.’

Then she said, “I ask one small petition of you; don’t deny me.” The king said to her, “Ask on, my mother, for I will not deny you.”

Benaiah came to Yahweh’s Tent, and said to him, “The king says, ‘Come out!’ ” He said, “No; but I will die here.” Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, “This is what Joab said, and this is how he answered me.”

And Benaiah cometh in unto the tent of Jehovah, and saith unto him, ‘Thus said the king, Come out;’ and he saith, ‘Nay, but here I die.’ And Benaiah bringeth back the king word, saying, ‘Thus spake Joab, yea, thus he answered me.’

Yahweh will return his blood on his own head, because he fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword, and my father David didn’t know it: Abner the son of Ner, captain of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the army of Judah.

And the Lord H3068 shall return H7725 (HiphPerf) his blood H1818 upon his own head, H7218 who fell H6293 (QalPerf) upon two H8147 men H582 more righteous H6662 and better H2896 than he, and slew H2026 (QalImpf) them with the sword, H2719 my father H1 David H1732 not knowing H3045 (QalPerf) [thereof, to wit], Abner H74 the son H1121 of Ner, H5369 captain H8269 of the host H6635 of Israel, H3478 and Amasa H6021 the son H1121 of Jether, H3500 captain H8269 of the host H6635 of Judah. and Jehovah hath turned back his blood on his own head, who hath fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slayeth them with the sword,-and my father David knew not-Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;

So their blood will return on the head of Joab and on the head of his offspring^§ forever. But for David, for his offspring, for his house, and for his throne, there will be peace forever from Yahweh.”

Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had come again.

And it is declared to Solomon that Shimei hath gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and doth return,

The king said moreover to Shimei, “You know in your heart all the wickedness that you did to David my father. Therefore Yahweh will return your wickedness on your own head.

“When your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against you, if they turn again to you and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this house,

and they have turned it back unto their heart in the land whither they have been taken captive, and have turned back, and made supplication unto Thee, in the land of their captors, saying, We have sinned and done perversely-we have done wickedly;

if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who carried them captive, and pray to you toward their land which you gave to their fathers, the city which you have chosen and the house which I have built for your name,

‘If ye at all turn back-you and your sons-from after Me, and keep not My commands-My statutes, that I have set before you, and ye have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them,

He said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” So the people departed.

And he saith unto them, ‘Go-yet three days, and come back unto me;’ and the people go.

King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to answer these people?”

And king Rehoboam consulteth with the elders who have been standing in the presence of Solomon his father, in his being alive, saying, ‘How are ye counselling to answer this people?’

He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may answer these people who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”

and he saith unto them, ‘What are ye counselling, and we answer this people, who have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten somewhat of the yoke that thy father put upon us?’

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”

So Jeroboam H3379 and all the people H5971 came H935 (QalImpf) to Rehoboam H7346 the third H7992 day, H3117 as the king H4428 had appointed, H1696 (PielPerf) saying, H559 (QalInf) Come to me again H7725 (QalImpv) the third H7992 day. H3117

And they come-Jeroboam and all the people-unto Rehoboam, on the third day, as the king had spoken, saying, ‘Come back unto me on the third day.’

When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.

So H7725 (HiphImpf) when all Israel H3478 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that the king H4428 hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) not unto them, the people H5971 answered H1697 the king, H4428 saying, H559 (QalInf) What portion H2506 have we in David? And all Israel see that the king hath not hearkened unto them, and the people send the king back word, saying, ‘What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse; to thy tents, O Israel; now see thy house, O David!’ and Israel goeth to its tents.

When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. There was no one who followed David’s house, except for the tribe of Judah only.

And it came to pass, when all Israel H3478 heard H8085 (QalInf) that Jeroboam H3379 was come again, H7725 (QalPerf) that they sent H7971 (QalImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) him unto the congregation, H5712 and made him king H4427 (HiphImpf) over all Israel: H3478 there was none that followed H310 the house H1004 of David, H1732 but H2108 the tribe H7626 of Judah H3063 only.

And it cometh to pass, at all Israel’s hearing that Jeroboam hath returned, that they send and call him unto the company, and cause him to reign over all Israel; none hath been after the house of David save the tribe of Judah alone.

When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

And when Rehoboam H7346 was come H935 (QalImpf) to Jerusalem, H3389 he assembled H6950 (HiphImpf) all the house H1004 of Judah, H3063 with the tribe H7626 of Benjamin, H1144 an hundred H3967 and fourscore H8084 thousand H505 chosen men, H977 (QalPasPtc) which were warriors, H6213 (QalActPtc) H4421 to fight H3898 (NiphInf) against the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 to bring H7725 the kingdom H4410 again H7725 (HiphInf) to Rehoboam H7346 the son H1121 of Solomon. And Rehoboam cometh to Jerusalem, and assembleth all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen warriors, to fight with the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam son of Solomon.

‘Yahweh says, “You shall not go up or fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is from me.” ’ ” So they listened to Yahweh’s word, and returned and went their way, according to Yahweh’s word.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 Ye shall not go up, H5927 (QalImpf) nor fight H3898 (NiphImpf) against your brethren H251 the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 return H7725 (QalImpv) every man H376 to his house; H1004 for this thing H1697 is H1961 (NiphPerf) from me. They hearkened H8085 (QalImpf) therefore to the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 and returned H7725 (QalImpf) to depart, H3212 (QalInf) according to the word H1697 of the Lord. H3068

Thus said Jehovah, Ye do not go up nor fight with your brethren the sons of Israel; turn back each to his house, for from Me hath this thing been;’ and they hear the word of Jehovah, and turn back to go according to the word of Jehovah.

Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to David’s house.

And Jeroboam H3379 said H559 (QalImpf) in his heart, H3820 Now shall the kingdom H4467 return H7725 (QalImpf) to the house H1004 of David: H1732

and Jeroboam saith in his heart, ‘Now doth the kingdom turn back to the house of David-

If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”

If this people H5971 go up H5927 (QalImpf) to do H6213 (QalInf) sacrifice H2077 in the house H1004 of the Lord H3068 at Jerusalem, H3389 then shall the heart H3820 of this people H5971 turn again H7725 (QalPerf) unto their lord, H113 [even] unto Rehoboam H7346 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 and they shall kill H2026 (QalPerf) me, and go again H7725 (QalPerf) to Rehoboam H7346 king H4428 of Judah. if this people go up to make sacrifices in the house of Jehovah in Jerusalem, then hath the heart of this people turned back unto their lord, unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they have slain me, and turned back unto Rehoboam king of Judah.’

When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.

And it came to pass, when king H4428 Jeroboam H3379 heard H8085 (QalInf) the saying H1697 of the man H376 of God, H430 which had cried H7121 (QalPerf) against the altar H4196 in Bethel, H1008 that he put forth H7971 (QalImpf) his hand H3027 from the altar, H4196 saying, H559 (QalInf) Lay hold H8610 (QalImpv) on him. And his hand, H3027 which he put forth H7971 (QalPerf) against him, dried up, H3001 (QalImpf) so that he could H3201 (QalPerf) not pull it in again H7725 (HiphInf) to him.

And it cometh to pass, at the king’s hearing the word of the man of God that he calleth against the altar in Beth-El, that Jeroboam putteth forth his hand from off the altar, saying, ‘Catch him;’ and his hand is dried up that he hath put forth against him, and he is not able to bring it back unto him,

The king answered the man of God, “Now intercede for the favor of Yahweh your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again.” The man of God interceded with Yahweh, and the king’s hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.

And the king H4428 answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said H559 (QalImpf) unto the man H376 of God, H430 Intreat H2470 (PielImpv) now the face H6440 of the Lord H3068 thy God, H430 and pray H6419 (HithImpv) for me, that my hand H3027 may be restored me again. H7725 (QalImpf) And the man H376 of God H430 besought H2470 (PielImpf) H6440 the Lord, H3068 and the king’s H4428 hand H3027 was restored him again, H7725 (QalImpf) and became as [it was] before. H7223

And the king answereth and saith unto the man of God, ‘Appease, I pray thee, the face of Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, and my hand doth come back unto me;’ and the man of God appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and the hand of the king cometh back unto him, and it is as at the beginning.

for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’ ”

For so was it charged H6680 (PielPerf) me by the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf) Eat H398 (QalImpf) no bread, H3899 nor drink H8354 (QalImpf) water, H4325 nor turn again H7725 (QalImpf) by the same way H1870 that thou camest. H1980 (QalPerf)

for so He commanded me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water, nor turn back in the way that thou hast come.’

So he went another way, and didn’t return by the way that he came to Bethel.

So he went H3212 (QalImpf) another H312 way, H1870 and returned H7725 (QalPerf) not by the way H1870 that he came H935 (QalPerf) to Bethel. H1008

And he goeth on in another way, and hath not turned back in the way in which he came in unto Beth-El.
