The children of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us. All the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are in Beth Shean and its towns, and those who are in the valley of Jezreel.”

Appoint for yourselves three men from each tribe. I will send them, and they shall arise, walk through the land, and describe it according to their inheritance; then they shall come to me.

You shall survey the land into seven parts, and bring the description here to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh our God.

The men arose and went. Joshua commanded those who went to survey the land, saying, “Go walk through the land, survey it, and come again to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh in Shiloh.”

The men went and passed through the land, and surveyed it by cities into seven portions in a book. They came to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh.

Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Yahweh. There Joshua divided the land to the children of Israel according to their divisions.

And Joshua H3091 cast H7993 (HiphImpf) lots H1486 for them in Shiloh H7887 before H6440 the Lord: H3068 and there Joshua H3091 divided H2505 (PielImpf) the land H776 unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478 according to their divisions. H4256

και ενεβαλεν αυτοις ιησους κληρον εν σηλω εναντι κυριου

So they finished distributing the land for inheritance by its borders. The children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them.

When they had made an end H3615 (PielImpf) of dividing the land H776 for inheritance H5157 (QalInf) by their coasts, H1367 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 (QalImpf) an inheritance H5159 to Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 among H8432 them:

και επορευθησαν εμβατευσαι την γην κατα το οριον αυτων και εδωκαν οι υιοι ισραηλ κληρον ιησοι τω υιω ναυη εν αυτοις

These are the inheritances, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance by lot in Shiloh before Yahweh, at the door of the Tent of Meeting. So they finished dividing the land.

αυται αι διαιρεσεις ας κατεκληρονομησεν ελεαζαρ ο ιερευς και ιησους ο του ναυη και οι αρχοντες των πατριων εν ταις φυλαις ισραηλ κατα κληρους εν σηλω εναντιον κυριου παρα τας θυρας της σκηνης του μαρτυριου και επορευθησαν εμβατευσαι την γην

They spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “Yahweh commanded through Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.”

So Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers. They possessed it, and lived in it.

Now Yahweh your God has given rest to your brothers, as he spoke to them. Therefore now return and go to your tents, to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan.

The children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they owned, according to the commandment of Yahweh by Moses.

And the children H1121 of Reuben H7205 and the children H1121 of Gad H1410 and the half H2677 tribe H7626 of Manasseh H4519 returned, H7725 (QalImpf) and departed H3212 (QalImpf) from the children H1121 of Israel H3478 out of Shiloh, H7887 which is in the land H776 of Canaan, H3667 to go H3212 (QalInf) unto the country H776 of Gilead, H1568 to the land H776 of their possession, H272 whereof they were possessed, H270 (NiphPerf) according to the word H6310 of the Lord H3068 by the hand H3027 of Moses. When they came to the region near the Jordan, that is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar there by the Jordan, a great altar to look at.

And when they came H935 (QalImpf) unto the borders H1552 of Jordan, H3383 that are in the land H776 of Canaan, H3667 the children H1121 of Reuben H7205 and the children H1121 of Gad H1410 and the half H2677 tribe H7626 of Manasseh H4519 built H1129 (QalImpf) there an altar H4196 by Jordan, H3383 a great H1419 altar H4196 to see to. The children of Israel heard this, “Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar along the border of the land of Canaan, in the region around the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the children of Israel.”

They came to the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying,

However, if the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of Yahweh, in which Yahweh’s tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us; but don’t rebel against Yahweh, nor rebel against us, in building an altar other than Yahweh our God’s altar.

και νυν ει μικρα υμιν η γη της κατασχεσεως υμων διαβητε εις την γην της κατασχεσεως κυριου ου κατασκηνοι εκει η σκηνη κυριου και κατακληρονομησατε εν ημιν και μη αποσταται απο θεου γενηθητε και μη αποστητε απο κυριου δια το οικοδομησαι υμας βωμον εξω του θυσιαστηριου κυριου του θεου ημων

και απεστρεψεν φινεες ο ιερευς και οι αρχοντες απο των υιων ρουβην και απο των υιων γαδ και απο του ημισους φυλης μανασση εκ γης γαλααδ εις γην χανααν προς τους υιους ισραηλ και απεκριθησαν αυτοις τους λογους

The thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and spoke no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land in which the children of Reuben and the children of Gad lived.

και ηρεσεν τοις υιοις ισραηλ και ελαλησαν προς τους υιους ισραηλ και ευλογησαν τον θεον υιων ισραηλ και ειπαν μηκετι αναβηναι προς αυτους εις πολεμον εξολεθρευσαι την γην των υιων ρουβην και των υιων γαδ και του ημισους φυλης μανασση και κατωκησαν επ αυτης

Yahweh your God will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight. You shall possess their land, as Yahweh your God spoke to you.

κυριος δε ο θεος υμων ουτος εξολεθρευσει αυτους απο προσωπου υμων εως αν απολωνται και αποστελει αυτοις τα θηρια τα αγρια εως αν εξολεθρευση αυτους και τους βασιλεις αυτων απο προσωπου υμων και κατακληρονομησατε την γην αυτων καθα ελαλησεν κυριος ο θεος υμων υμιν

εγω δε αποτρεχω την οδον καθα και παντες οι επι της γης και γνωσεσθε τη καρδια υμων και τη ψυχη υμων διοτι ου διεπεσεν εις λογος απο παντων των λογων ων ειπεν κυριος ο θεος υμων προς παντα τα ανηκοντα υμιν ου διεφωνησεν εξ αυτων

It shall happen that as all the good things have come on you of which Yahweh your God spoke to you, so Yahweh will bring on you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land which Yahweh your God has given you,

και εσται ον τροπον ηκει εφ υμας παντα τα ρηματα τα καλα α ελαλησεν κυριος προς υμας ουτως επαξει κυριος ο θεος εφ υμας παντα τα ρηματα τα πονηρα εως αν εξολεθρευση υμας απο της γης της αγαθης ταυτης ης εδωκεν κυριος υμιν

when you disobey the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them. Then Yahweh’s anger will be kindled against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.”

και εξεβαλεν κυριος τον αμορραιον και παντα τα εθνη τα κατοικουντα την γην απο προσωπου ημων αλλα και ημεις λατρευσομεν κυριω ουτος γαρ θεος ημων εστιν

Yahweh said, “Judah shall go up. Behold,^§ I have delivered the land into his hand.”

Judges 1:2 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

και ειπεν αυτω ασχα δος μοι ευλογιαν οτι εις γην νοτου εκδεδοσαι με και δωσεις μοι λυτρωσιν υδατος και εδωκεν αυτη χαλεβ κατα την καρδιαν αυτης την λυτρωσιν μετεωρων και την λυτρωσιν ταπεινων
