David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

And David speaketh unto the men who are standing by him, saying, ‘What is done to the man who smiteth this Philistine, and hath turned aside reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he hath reproached the ranks of the living God?’

The people answered him in this way, saying, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”

And the people speak to him according to this word, saying, ‘Thus it is done to the man who smiteth him.’

Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”

And Eliab, his eldest brother, heareth when he speaketh unto the men, and the anger of Eliab burneth against David, and he saith, ‘Why is this-thou hast come down! and to whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I have known thy pride, and the evil of thy heart-for, to see the battle thou hast come down.’

Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”

And Saul H7586 said H559 (QalImpf) to David, H1732 Thou art not able H3201 (QalImpf) to go H3212 (QalInf) against this Philistine H6430 to fight H3898 (NiphInf) with him: for thou [art but] a youth, H5288 and he a man H376 of war H4421 from his youth. H5271

And Saul saith unto David, ‘Thou art not able to go unto this Philistine, to fight with him, for a youth thou art, and he a man of war from his youth.’

The Philistine walked and came near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.

And the Philistine H6430 came H3212 (QalImpf) on H1980 (QalActPtc) and drew near H7131 unto David; H1732 and the man H376 that bare H5375 (QalActPtc) the shield H6793 [went] before H6440 him.

And the Philistine goeth on, going and drawing near unto David, and the man bearing the buckler is before him,

The men of Israel and of Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as Gai and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath and to Ekron.

And the men H582 of Israel H3478 and of Judah H3063 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and shouted, H7321 (HiphImpf) and pursued H7291 (QalImpf) the Philistines, H6430 until thou come H935 (QalInf) to the valley, H1516 and to the gates H8179 of Ekron. And the men of Israel rise-also Judah-and shout, and pursue the Philistines till thou enter the valley, and unto the gates of Ekron, and the wounded of the Philistines fall in the way of Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron,

David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war. It was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

And David goeth out whithersoever Saul doth send him; he acted wisely, and Saul setteth him over the men of war, and it is good in the eyes of all the people, and also in the eyes of the servants of Saul.

Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and little known?”

And the servants of Saul speak in the ears of David these words, and David saith, ‘Is it a light thing in your eyes to be son-in-law to the king-and I a poor man, and lightly esteemed?’

David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as wife.

and David riseth and goeth, he and his men, and smiteth among the Philistines two hundred men, and David bringeth in their foreskins, and they set them before the king, to be son-in-law to the king; and Saul giveth to him Michal his daughter for a wife.

but you shall also not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when Yahweh has cut off every one of the enemies of David from the surface of the earth.”

but thou dost not cut off thy kindness from my house unto the age, nor in Jehovah’s cutting off the enemies of David, each one from off the face of the ground.’

As soon as the boy was gone, David arose out of the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times. They kissed one another and wept with one another, and David wept the most.

The youth hath gone, and David hath risen from Ezel, at the south, and falleth on his face to the earth, and boweth himself three times, and they kiss one another, and they weep one with another, till David exerted himself;

Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said to him, “Why are you alone, and no man with you?”

And David cometh in to Nob, unto Ahimelech the priest, and Ahimelech trembleth at meeting David, and saith to him, ‘Wherefore art thou thyself alone, and no man with thee?’

David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commanded me to do something, and has said to me, ‘Let no one know anything about the business about which I send you, and what I have commanded you. I have sent the young men to a certain place.’

And David saith to Ahimelech the priest, ‘The king hath commanded me a matter, and he saith unto me, Let no man know anything of the matter about which I am sending thee, and which I have commanded thee; and the young men I have caused to know at such and such a place;

Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before Yahweh; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the best of the herdsmen who belonged to Saul.

Now a certain man H376 of the servants H5650 of Saul H7586 [was] there that day, H3117 detained H6113 (NiphPtc) before H6440 the Lord; H3068 and his name H8034 [was] Doeg, H1673 an Edomite, H130 the chiefest H47 of the herdmen H7462 (QalActPtc) that [belonged] to Saul. H7586

And there is a man of the servants of Saul on that day detained before Jehovah, and his name is Doeg the Edomite, chief of the shepherds whom Saul hath.

Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is insane. Why then have you brought him to me?

Then said H559 (QalImpf) Achish H397 unto his servants, H5650 Lo, ye see H7200 (QalImpf) the man H376 is mad: H7696 (HithPtc) wherefore [then] have ye brought H935 (HiphImpf) him to me?

And Achish saith unto his servants, ‘Lo, ye see a man acting as a madman; why do ye bring him in unto me?

Everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered themselves to him; and he became captain over them. There were with him about four hundred men.

and gather themselves unto him do every man in distress, and every man who hath an exactor, and every man bitter in soul, and he is over them for head, and there are with him about four hundred men.

Saul heard that David was discovered, with the men who were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing around him.

When Saul H7586 heard H8085 (QalImpf) that David H1732 was discovered, H3045 (NiphPerf) and the men H582 that [were] with him, (now Saul H7586 abode H3427 (QalActPtc) in Gibeah H1390 under a tree H815 in Ramah, H7414 having his spear H2595 in his hand, H3027 and all his servants H5650 [were] standing H5324 (NiphPtc) about him;)

And Saul heareth that David hath become known, and the men who are with him, and Saul is abiding in Gibeah, under the grove in Ramah, and his spear is in his hand, and all his servants standing by him.

The king said to Doeg, “Turn and attack the priests!” Doeg the Edomite turned, and he attacked the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five people who wore a linen ephod.

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) to Doeg, H1673 Turn H5437 (QalImpv) thou, and fall H6293 (QalImpv) upon the priests. And the king saith to Doeg, ‘Turn round thou, and come against the priests;’ and Doeg the Edomite turneth round, and cometh himself against the priests, and putteth to death in that day eighty and five men bearing a linen ephod,

He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword—both men and women, children and nursing babies, and cattle, donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

And Nob, H5011 the city H5892 of the priests, H3548 smote H5221 (HiphPerf) he with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 both men H376 and women, H802 children H5768 and sucklings, H3243 (QalActPtc) and oxen, H7794 and asses, H2543 and sheep, H7716 with the edge H6310 of the sword. H2719

and Nob, the city of the priests, he hath smitten by the mouth of the sword, from man even unto woman, from infant even unto suckling, and ox, and ass, and sheep, by the mouth of the sword.

David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”

And David’s H1732 men H582 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold, we be afraid H3373 here in Judah: H3063 how much more then if we come H3212 (QalImpf) to Keilah H7084 against the armies H4634 of the Philistines? H6430

And David’s men say unto him, ‘Lo, we here in Judah are afraid; and how much more when we go to Keilah, unto the ranks of the Philistines?’

David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their livestock, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

So David H1732 and his men H582 went H3212 (QalImpf) to Keilah, H7084 and fought H3898 (NiphImpf) with the Philistines, H6430 and brought away H5090 (QalImpf) their cattle, H4735 and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them with a great H1419 slaughter. And David goeth, and his men, to Keilah, and fighteth with the Philistines, and leadeth away their cattle, and smiteth among them-a great smiting, and David saveth the inhabitants of Keilah.

Saul summoned all the people to war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.

And Saul H7586 called H8085 all the people H5971 together H8085 (PielImpf) to war, H4421 to go down H3381 (QalInf) to Keilah, H7084 to besiege H6696 (QalInf) David H1732 and his men. H582

And Saul summoneth the whole of the people to battle, to go down to Keilah, to lay siege unto David and unto his men.

Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” Yahweh said, “They will deliver you up.”

Then said H559 (QalImpf) David, H1732 Will the men H1167 of Keilah H7084 deliver H5462 (HiphImpf) me and my men H582 into the hand H3027 of Saul? H7586 And the Lord H3068 said, H559 (QalImpf) They will deliver [thee] up. H5462 (HiphImpf)

And David saith, ‘Do the possessors of Keilah shut me up, and my men, into the hand of Saul?’ And Jehovah saith, ‘They shut thee up.’

Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went wherever they could go. Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah; and he gave up going there.

Then David H1732 and his men, H582 [which were] about six H8337 hundred, H3967 H376 arose H6965 (QalImpf) and departed H3318 (QalImpf) out of Keilah, H7084 and went H1980 (HithImpf) whithersoever H834 they could go. H1980 (HithImpf) And it was told H5046 (HophPerf) Saul H7586 that David H1732 was escaped H4422 (NiphPerf) from Keilah; H7084 and he forbare H2308 (QalImpf) to go forth. H3318 (QalInf)

And David riseth-and his men-about six hundred men, and they go out from Keilah, and go up and down where they go up and down; and to Saul it hath been declared that David hath escaped from Keilah, and he ceaseth to go out.

They arose, and went to Ziph before Saul; but David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the Arabah on the south of the desert.

And they arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) to Ziph H2128 before H6440 Saul: H7586 but David H1732 and his men H582 [were] in the wilderness H4057 of Maon, H4584 in the plain H6160 on the south H3225 of Jeshimon. H3452

And they rise and go to Ziph before Saul, and David and his men are in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain, at the south of the desolate place.

Saul and his men went to seek him. When David was told, he went down to the rock, and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard that, he pursued David in the wilderness of Maon.

Saul H7586 also and his men H582 went H3212 (QalImpf) to seek H1245 (PielInf) [him]. And they told H5046 (HiphImpf) David: H1732 wherefore he came down H3381 (QalImpf) into a rock, H5553 and abode H3427 (QalImpf) in the wilderness H4057 of Maon. And Saul and his men go to seek, and they declare to David, and he goeth down the rock, and abideth in the wilderness of Maon; and Saul heareth, and pursueth after David to the wilderness of Maon.

Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David hurried to get away for fear of Saul, for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.

And Saul H7586 went H3212 (QalImpf) on this side H6654 of the mountain, H2022 and David H1732 and his men H582 on that side H6654 of the mountain: H2022 and David H1732 made haste H2648 (NiphPtc) to get away H3212 (QalInf) for fear H6440 of Saul; H7586 for Saul H7586 and his men H582 compassed H5849 David H1732 and his men H582 round about H5849 (QalActPtc) to take H8610 (QalInf) them.

And Saul goeth on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain, and David is hastened to go from the face of Saul, and Saul and his men are compassing David and his men, to catch them.

Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.

Then Saul H7586 took H3947 (QalImpf) three H7969 thousand H505 chosen H977 (QalPasPtc) men H376 out of all Israel, H3478 and went H3212 (QalImpf) to seek H1245 (PielInf) David H1732 and his men H582 upon H6440 the rocks H6697 of the wild goats. H3277

And Saul taketh three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and goeth to seek David and his men, on the front of the rocks of the wild goats,

He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were staying in the innermost parts of the cave.

And he came H935 (QalImpf) to the sheepcotes H1448 H6629 by the way, H1870 where [was] a cave; H4631 and Saul H7586 went in H935 (QalImpf) to cover H5526 (HiphInf) his feet: H7272 and David H1732 and his men H582 remained H3427 (QalActPtc) in the sides H3411 of the cave. H4631

and he cometh in unto folds of the flock, on the way, and there is a cave, and Saul goeth in to cover his feet; and David and his men in the sides of the cave are abiding.

David’s men said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’ ” Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.

And the men H582 of David H1732 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold the day H3117 of which the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalPerf) unto thee, Behold, I will deliver H5414 (QalActPtc) thine enemy H341 (QalActPtc) into thine hand, H3027 that thou mayest do H6213 (QalPerf) to him as it shall seem good H3190 (QalImpf) unto thee. H5869 Then David H1732 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and cut off H3772 (QalImpf) the skirt H3671 of Saul’s H7586 robe H4598 privily. H3909

And the men of David say unto him, ‘Lo, the day of which Jehovah said unto thee, Lo, I am giving thine enemy into thy hand, and thou hast done to him as it is good in thine eyes;’ and David riseth and cutteth off the skirt of the upper robe which is on Saul-gently.

He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto his men, H582 The Lord H3068 forbid H2486 that I should do H6213 (QalImpf) this thing H1697 unto my master, H113 the Lord’s H3068 anointed, H4899 to stretch forth H7971 (QalInf) mine hand H3027 against him, seeing he [is] the anointed H4899 of the Lord. H3068

and he saith to his men, ‘Far be it from me, by Jehovah; I do not do this thing to my lord-to the anointed of Jehovah-to put forth my hand against him, for the anointed of Jehovah he is.’

So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

So David H1732 stayed H8156 (PielImpf) his servants H582 with these words, H1697 and suffered H5414 (QalPerf) them not to rise H6965 (QalInf) against Saul. H7586 But Saul H7586 rose up H6965 (QalPerf) out of the cave, H4631 and went H3212 (QalImpf) on [his] way. H1870

And David subdueth his men by words, and hath not permitted them to rise against Saul; and Saul hath risen from the cave, and goeth on the way;

For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may Yahweh reward you good for that which you have done to me today.

For if a man H376 find H4672 (QalImpf) his enemy, H341 (QalActPtc) will he let him go H7971 (PielPerf) well H2896 away? H1870 wherefore the Lord H3068 reward H7999 (PielImpf) thee good H2896 for that thou hast done H6213 (QalPerf) unto me this day. H3117

and that a man doth find his enemy, and hath sent him away in a good manner; and Jehovah doth repay thee good for that which thou didst to me this day.

David swore to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

And David H1732 sware H7650 (NiphImpf) unto Saul. H7586 And Saul H7586 went H3212 (QalImpf) home; H1004 but David H1732 and his men H582 gat them up H5927 (QalPerf) unto the hold. H4686

And David sweareth to Saul, and Saul goeth unto his house, and David and his men have gone up unto the fortress.

There was a man in Maon whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats; and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

And there is a man in Maon, and his work is in Carmel; and the man is very great, and he hath three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats; and he is shearing his flock in Carmel.

Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail. This woman was intelligent and had a beautiful face; but the man was surly and evil in his doings. He was of the house of Caleb.

Now the name H8034 of the man H376 [was] Nabal; H5037 and the name H8034 of his wife H802 Abigail: H26 and [she was] a woman H802 of good H2896 understanding, H7922 and of a beautiful H3303 countenance: H8389 but the man H376 [was] churlish H7186 and evil H7451 in his doings; H4611 and he [was] of the house of Caleb. And the name of the man is Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail, and the woman is of good understanding, and of fair form, and the man is hard and evil in doings; and he is a Calebite.

Nabal answered David’s servants and said, “Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.

And Nabal answereth the servants of David and saith, ‘Who is David, and who the son of Jesse? to-day have servants been multiplied who are breaking away each from his master;

Shall I then take my bread, my water, and my meat that I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men who I don’t know where they come from?”

But the men were very good to us, and we were not harmed, and we didn’t miss anything as long as we went with them, when we were in the fields.

She said to her young men, “Go on before me. Behold, I am coming after you.” But she didn’t tell her husband, Nabal.

And she saith to her young men, ‘Pass over before me; lo, after you I am coming;’ and to her husband Nabal she hath not declared it;

As she rode on her donkey, and came down hidden by the mountain, behold, David and his men came down toward her, and she met them.

And it was [so, as] she rode H7392 (QalActPtc) on the ass, H2543 that she came down H3381 (QalActPtc) by the covert H5643 of the hill, H2022 and, behold, David H1732 and his men H582 came down H3381 (QalActPtc) against H7125 (QalInf) her; and she met H6298 (QalImpf) them.

and it hath come to pass, she is riding on the ass and is coming down in the secret part of the hill-country, and lo, David and his men are coming down to meet her, and she meeteth them.

Please don’t let my lord pay attention to this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal° is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your servant, didn’t see my lord’s young men whom you sent.

David said to Abner, “Aren’t you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not kept watch over your lord the king? For one of the people came in to destroy your lord the king.

And David saith unto Abner, ‘Art not thou a man? and who is like thee in Israel? but why hast thou not watched over thy lord the king? for one of the people had come in to destroy the king, thy lord.

Yahweh will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn’t stretch out my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.

and David dwelleth with Achish in Gath, he and his men, each one with his household, even David and his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelitess.

David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land who were of old, on the way to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.

and David goeth up and his men, and they push unto the Geshurite, and the Gerizite, and the Amalekite, (for they are inhabitants of the land from of old), as thou comest in to Shur and unto the land of Egypt,

David struck the land, and saved no man or woman alive, and took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned, and came to Achish.

and David hath smitten the land, and doth not keep alive man and woman, and hath taken sheep, and oxen, and asses, and camels, and garments, and turneth back, and cometh in unto Achish.
