ο δε κυριος επεστηρικτο επ αυτης και ειπεν εγω κυριος ο θεος αβρααμ του πατρος σου και ο θεος ισαακ μη φοβου η γη εφ ης συ καθευδεις επ αυτης σοι δωσω αυτην και τω σπερματι σου

He looked, and saw a well in the field, and saw three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.

και ορα και ιδου φρεαρ εν τω πεδιω ησαν δε εκει τρια ποιμνια προβατων αναπαυομενα επ αυτου εκ γαρ του φρεατος εκεινου εποτιζον τα ποιμνια λιθος δε ην μεγας επι τω στοματι του φρεατος

She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.

και συνελαβεν ετι και ετεκεν υιον και ειπεν εν τω νυν καιρω προς εμου εσται ο ανηρ μου ετεκον γαρ αυτω τρεις υιους δια τουτο εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου λευι

She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “This time I will praise Yahweh.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.

So my righteousness will answer for me hereafter, when you come concerning my hire that is before you. Every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and black among the sheep, that might be with me, will be considered stolen.”

και επακουσεται μοι η δικαιοσυνη μου εν τη ημερα τη αυριον οτι εστιν ο μισθος μου ενωπιον σου παν ο εαν μη η ραντον και διαλευκον εν ταις αιξιν και φαιον εν τοις αρνασιν κεκλεμμενον εσται παρ εμοι

Jacob deceived Laban the Syrian, in that he didn’t tell him that he was running away.

Laban said, “This heap is witness between me and you today.” Therefore it was named Galeed

Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and strike me and the mothers with the children.

Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.°

Genesis 33:17 succoth means shelters or booths.

ειπεν δε ιακωβ συμεων και λευι μισητον με πεποιηκατε ωστε πονηρον με ειναι πασιν τοις κατοικουσιν την γην εν τε τοις χαναναιοις και τοις φερεζαιοις εγω δε ολιγοστος ειμι εν αριθμω και συναχθεντες επ εμε συγκοψουσιν με και εκτριβησομαι εγω και ο οικος μου

Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.

His brothers asked him, “Will you indeed reign over us? Will you indeed have dominion over us?” They hated him all the more for his dreams and for his words.

επεγνω δε ιουδας και ειπεν δεδικαιωται θαμαρ η εγω ου εινεκεν ουκ εδωκα αυτην σηλωμ τω υιω μου και ου προσεθετο ετι του γνωναι αυτην

Joseph found favor in his sight. He ministered to him, and Potiphar made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

και ευρεν ιωσηφ χαριν εναντιον του κυριου αυτου ευηρεστει δε αυτω και κατεστησεν αυτον επι του οικου αυτου και παντα οσα ην αυτω εδωκεν δια χειρος ιωσηφ

From the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake. Yahweh’s blessing was on all that he had, in the house and in the field.

εγενετο δε μετα το κατασταθηναι αυτον επι του οικου αυτου και επι παντα οσα ην αυτω και ηυλογησεν κυριος τον οικον του αιγυπτιου δια ιωσηφ και εγενηθη ευλογια κυριου εν πασιν τοις υπαρχουσιν αυτω εν τω οικω και εν τω αγρω

Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cup bearer and the chief baker.

και ωργισθη φαραω επι τοις δυσιν ευνουχοις αυτου επι τω αρχιοινοχοω και επι τω αρχισιτοποιω

In the uppermost basket there were all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.”

εν δε τω κανω τω επανω απο παντων των γενων ων ο βασιλευς φαραω εσθιει εργον σιτοποιου και τα πετεινα του ουρανου κατησθιεν αυτα απο του κανου του επανω της κεφαλης μου

Within three more days, Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you.”

Yet within three H7969 days H3117 shall Pharaoh H6547 lift up H5375 (QalImpf) thy head H7218 from off thee, and shall hang H8518 (QalPerf) thee on a tree; H6086 and the birds H5775 shall eat H398 (QalPerf) thy flesh H1320 from off thee.

ετι τριων ημερων αφελει φαραω την κεφαλην σου απο σου και κρεμασει σε επι ξυλου και φαγεται τα ορνεα του ουρανου τας σαρκας σου απο σου

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”

ειπεν δε φαραω τω ιωσηφ ενυπνιον εωρακα και ο συγκρινων ουκ εστιν αυτο εγω δε ακηκοα περι σου λεγοντων ακουσαντα σε ενυπνια συγκριναι αυτα

“Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.

Now therefore let Pharaoh H6547 look out H7200 (QalImpf) a man H376 discreet H995 (NiphPtc) and wise, H2450 and set H7896 (QalImpf) him over the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

νυν ουν σκεψαι ανθρωπον φρονιμον και συνετον και καταστησον αυτον επι γης αιγυπτου

Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt’s produce in the seven plenteous years.

και ποιησατω φαραω και καταστησατω τοπαρχας επι της γης και αποπεμπτωσατωσαν παντα τα γενηματα της γης αιγυπτου των επτα ετων της ευθηνιας

You shall be over my house. All my people will be ruled according to your word. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.”

Thou shalt be H1961 (QalImpf) over my house, H1004 and according unto thy word H6310 shall all my people H5971 be ruled: H5401 (QalImpf) only in the throne H3678 will I be greater H1431 (QalImpf) than thou.

συ εση επι τω οικω μου και επι τω στοματι σου υπακουσεται πας ο λαος μου πλην τον θρονον υπερεξω σου εγω

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

And Pharaoh H6547 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Joseph, H3130 See, H7200 (QalImpv) I have set H5414 (QalPerf) thee over all the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

ειπεν δε φαραω τω ιωσηφ ιδου καθιστημι σε σημερον επι πασης γης αιγυπτου

Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.

και περιελομενος φαραω τον δακτυλιον απο της χειρος αυτου περιεθηκεν αυτον επι την χειρα ιωσηφ και ενεδυσεν αυτον στολην βυσσινην και περιεθηκεν κλοιον χρυσουν περι τον τραχηλον αυτου

He made him ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt.

And he made him to ride H7392 (HiphImpf) in the second H4932 chariot H4818 which he had; and they cried H7121 (QalImpf) before him, H6440 Bow the knee: H86 and he made H5414 (QalInf) him [ruler] over all the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

και ανεβιβασεν αυτον επι το αρμα το δευτερον των αυτου και εκηρυξεν εμπροσθεν αυτου κηρυξ και κατεστησεν αυτον εφ ολης γης αιγυπτου

Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah. He gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh H6547 called H7121 (QalImpf) Joseph’s H3130 name H8034 Zaphnathpaaneah; H6847 and he gave H5414 (QalImpf) him to wife H802 Asenath H621 the daughter H1323 of Potipherah H6319 priest H3548 of On. H204 And Joseph H3130 went out H3318 (QalImpf) over [all] the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

και εκαλεσεν φαραω το ονομα ιωσηφ ψονθομφανηχ και εδωκεν αυτω την ασεννεθ θυγατερα πετεφρη ιερεως ηλιου πολεως αυτω γυναικα

The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.

And the famine H7458 was over all the face H6440 of the earth: H776 And Joseph H3130 opened H6605 (QalImpf) all the storehouses, and sold H7666 (QalImpf) unto the Egyptians; H4714 and the famine H7458 waxed sore H2388 (QalImpf) in the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

και ο λιμος ην επι προσωπου πασης της γης ανεωξεν δε ιωσηφ παντας τους σιτοβολωνας και επωλει πασι τοις αιγυπτιοις

Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph’s brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.

ιωσηφ δε ην αρχων της γης ουτος επωλει παντι τω λαω της γης ελθοντες δε οι αδελφοι ιωσηφ προσεκυνησαν αυτω επι προσωπον επι την γην

They said to one another, “We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”

Jacob, their father, said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”

And Jacob H3290 their father H1 said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Me have ye bereaved H7921 (PielPerf) [of my children]: Joseph H3130 [is] not, and Simeon H8095 [is] not, and ye will take H3947 (QalImpf) Benjamin H1144 [away]: all these things are against me.

ειπεν δε αυτοις ιακωβ ο πατηρ αυτων εμε ητεκνωσατε ιωσηφ ουκ εστιν συμεων ουκ εστιν και τον βενιαμιν λημψεσθε επ εμε εγενετο παντα ταυτα

They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

οι δε ειπαν ερωτων επηρωτησεν ημας ο ανθρωπος και την γενεαν ημων λεγων ει ετι ο πατηρ υμων ζη ει εστιν υμιν αδελφος και απηγγειλαμεν αυτω κατα την επερωτησιν ταυτην μη ηδειμεν ει ερει ημιν αγαγετε τον αδελφον υμων

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

ιδοντες δε οι ανθρωποι οτι εισηχθησαν εις τον οικον ιωσηφ ειπαν δια το αργυριον το αποστραφεν εν τοις μαρσιπποις ημων την αρχην ημεις εισαγομεθα του συκοφαντησαι ημας και επιθεσθαι ημιν του λαβειν ημας εις παιδας και τους ονους ημων

They came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they spoke to him at the door of the house,

και ενετειλατο ιωσηφ τω οντι επι της οικιας αυτου λεγων πλησατε τους μαρσιππους των ανθρωπων βρωματων οσα εαν δυνωνται αραι και εμβαλατε εκαστου το αργυριον επι του στοματος του μαρσιππου

When they had gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward, “Up, follow after the men. When you overtake them, ask them, ‘Why have you rewarded evil for good?

εξελθοντων δε αυτων την πολιν ουκ απεσχον μακραν και ιωσηφ ειπεν τω επι της οικιας αυτου αναστας επιδιωξον οπισω των ανθρωπων και καταλημψη αυτους και ερεις αυτοις τι οτι ανταπεδωκατε πονηρα αντι καλων

The sons of Israel did so. Joseph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way.

εποιησαν δε ουτως οι υιοι ισραηλ εδωκεν δε ιωσηφ αυτοις αμαξας κατα τα ειρημενα υπο φαραω του βασιλεως και εδωκεν αυτοις επισιτισμον εις την οδον

Only he didn’t buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. That is why they didn’t sell their land.

χωρις της γης των ιερεων μονον ουκ εκτησατο ταυτην ιωσηφ εν δοσει γαρ εδωκεν δομα τοις ιερευσιν φαραω και ησθιον την δοσιν ην εδωκεν αυτοις φαραω δια τουτο ουκ απεδοντο την γην αυτων

Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth. Only the land of the priests alone didn’t become Pharaoh’s.

και εθετο αυτοις ιωσηφ εις προσταγμα εως της ημερας ταυτης επι γην αιγυπτου τω φαραω αποπεμπτουν χωρις της γης των ιερεων μονον ουκ ην τω φαραω

Your offspring, whom you become the father of after them, will be yours. They will be called after the name of their brothers in their inheritance.

And thy issue, H4138 which thou begettest H3205 (HiphPerf) after H310 them, shall be thine, [and] shall be called H7121 (NiphImpf) after H5921 the name H8034 of their brethren H251 in their inheritance. H5159

Moreover I have given to you one portion above your brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.”

“Zebulun will dwell at the haven of the sea. He will be for a haven of ships. His border will be on Sidon.
