The king said to Haman, “The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.”

A copy of the letter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published to all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

τα δε αντιγραφα των επιστολων εξετιθετο κατα χωραν και προσεταγη πασι τοις εθνεσιν ετοιμους ειναι εις την ημεραν ταυτην

The couriers went out in haste by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given out in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Susa was perplexed.

He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Susa to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people.

Then the king asked her, “What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom.”

Esther 5:8 Heb. to do

ει ευρον χαριν ενωπιον του βασιλεως ελθατω ο βασιλευς και αμαν επι την αυριον εις την δοχην ην ποιησω αυτοις και αυριον ποιησω τα αυτα

let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set.

και δοτω ενι των φιλων του βασιλεως των ενδοξων και στολισατω τον ανθρωπον ον ο βασιλευς αγαπα και αναβιβασατω αυτον επι τον ιππον και κηρυσσετω δια της πλατειας της πολεως λεγων ουτως εσται παντι ανθρωπω ον ο βασιλευς δοξαζει

The king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition, queen Esther? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) again unto Esther H635 on the second H8145 day H3117 at the banquet H4960 of wine, H3196 What is thy petition, H7596 queen H4436 Esther? Then Esther the queen answered, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.

και αποκριθεισα ειπεν ει ευρον χαριν ενωπιον του βασιλεως δοθητω η ψυχη μου τω αιτηματι μου και ο λαος μου τω αξιωματι μου

On that day, King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the Jews’ enemy, to Esther the queen. Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her.

The king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

In those letters, the king granted the Jews who were in every city to gather themselves together and to defend their lives—to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish all the power of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to plunder their possessions,

Esther 8:13 Heb. revealed

τα δε αντιγραφα εκτιθεσθωσαν οφθαλμοφανως εν παση τη βασιλεια ετοιμους τε ειναι παντας τους ιουδαιους εις ταυτην την ημεραν πολεμησαι αυτων τους υπεναντιους

Then Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Susa to do tomorrow also according to today’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.”

και ειπεν εσθηρ τω βασιλει δοθητω τοις ιουδαιοις χρησθαι ωσαυτως την αυριον ωστε τους δεκα υιους κρεμασαι αμαν

The king commanded this to be done. A decree was given out in Susa; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

αυτος γυμνος εξηλθον εκ κοιλιας μητρος μου γυμνος και απελευσομαι εκει ο κυριος εδωκεν ο κυριος αφειλατο ως τω κυριω εδοξεν ουτως και εγενετο ειη το ονομα κυριου ευλογημενον

In all this, Job didn’t sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.

“Oh that I might have my request, that God would grant the thing that I long for,

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?

παραδεδονται γαρ εις χειρας ασεβους προσωπα κριτων αυτης συγκαλυπτει ει δε μη αυτος τις εστιν

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,

Job 14:4 Heb. who will give?

τις γαρ καθαρος εσται απο ρυπου αλλ ουθεις

“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol,° that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!

Job 14:13 Sheol is the place of the dead.

to whom alone the land was given, and no stranger passed among them):

Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!

God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways.

It can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price.
