The young woman then came to the king like this: whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the women’s house to the king’s house.

In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second women’s house, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines. She came in to the king no more, unless the king delighted in her, and she was called by name.

in the evening she hath gone in, and in the morning she hath turned back unto the second house of the women, unto the hand of Shaashgaz eunuch of the king, keeper of the concubines; she cometh not in any more unto the king except the king hath delighted in her, and she hath been called by name.

Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, advised. Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her.

Now when the turn H8447 of Esther, H635 the daughter H1323 of Abihail H32 the uncle H1730 of Mordecai, H4782 who had taken H3947 (QalPerf) her for his daughter, H1323 was come H5060 (HiphInf) to go in H935 (QalInf) unto the king, H4428 she required H1245 (PielPerf) nothing H1697 but what Hegai H1896 the king’s H4428 chamberlain, H5631 the keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of the women, H802 appointed. And in the drawing nigh of the turn of Esther-daughter of Abihail, uncle of Mordecai, whom he had taken to him for a daughter-to come in unto the king, she hath not sought a thing except that which Hegai eunuch of the king, keeper of the women, saith, and Esther is receiving grace in the eyes of all seeing her.

If it pleases the king, let it be written that they be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents° of silver into the hands of those who are in charge of the king’s business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.”

if to the king it be good, let it be written to destroy them, and ten thousand talents of silver I weigh into the hands of those doing the work, to bring it in unto the treasuries of the king.’

He came even before the king’s gate, for no one is allowed inside the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.

And came H935 (QalImpf) even before H6440 the king’s H4428 gate: H8179 for none [might] enter H935 (QalInf) into the king’s H4428 gate H8179 clothed H3830 with sackcloth. H8242

and he cometh in unto the front of the gate of the king, but none is to come in unto the gate of the king with a sackcloth-garment.

Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth, but he didn’t receive it.

So Esther’s H635 maids H5291 and her chamberlains H5631 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) [it] her. Then was the queen H4436 exceedingly H3966 grieved; H2342 (HippImpf) and she sent H7971 (QalImpf) raiment H899 to clothe H3847 (HiphInf) Mordecai, H4782 and to take away H5493 (HiphInf) his sackcloth H8242 from him: but he received H6901 (PielPerf) [it] not.

And young women of Esther come in and her eunuchs, and declare it to her, and the queen is exceedingly pained, and sendeth garments to clothe Mordecai, and to turn aside his sackcloth from off him, and he hath not received them.

He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Susa to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people.

Also he gave H5414 (QalPerf) him the copy H6572 of the writing H3791 of the decree H1881 that was given H5414 (NiphPerf) at Shushan H7800 to destroy H8045 (HiphInf) them, to shew H7200 (HiphInf) [it] unto Esther, H635 and to declare H5046 (HiphInf) [it] unto her, and to charge H6680 (PielInf) her that she should go in H935 (QalInf) unto the king, H4428 to make supplication H2603 (HithInf) unto him, and to make request H1245 (PielInf) before H6440 him for her people. and the copy of the writing of the law that had been given in Shushan to destroy them he hath given to him, to shew Esther, and to declare it to her, and to lay a charge on her to go in unto the king, to make supplication to him, and to seek from before him, for her people.

Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

And Hatach H2047 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) Esther H635 the words H1697 of Mordecai. H4782

And Hatach cometh in and declareth to Esther the words of Mordecai,

“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”

‘All servants of the king, and people of the provinces of the king, do know that any man and woman, who cometh in unto the king, unto the inner court, who is not called-one law of his is to put them to death, apart from him to whom the king holdeth out the golden sceptre, then he hath lived; and I-I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.’

“Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

‘Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Shushan, and fast for me, and do not eat nor drink three days, by night and by day; also I and my young women do fast likewise, and so I go in unto the king, that is not according to law, and when I have perished-I have perished.’

Esther said, “If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.”

And Esther H635 answered, H559 (QalImpf) If [it seem] good H2895 (QalPerf) unto the king, H4428 let the king H4428 and Haman H2001 come H935 (QalImpf) this day H3117 unto the banquet H4960 that I have prepared H6213 (QalPerf) for him.

And Esther saith, ‘If unto the king it be good, the king doth come in, and Haman, to-day, unto the banquet that I have made for him;’

Then the king said, “Bring Haman quickly, so that it may be done as Esther has said.” So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

Then the king H4428 said, H559 (QalImpf) Cause Haman H2001 to make haste, H4116 (PielImpv) that he may do H6213 (QalInf) as Esther H635 hath said. H1697 So the king H4428 and Haman H2001 came H935 (QalImpf) to the banquet H4960 that Esther H635 had prepared. H6213 (QalPerf)

and the king saith, ‘Haste ye Haman-to do the word of Esther;’ and the king cometh in, and Haman, unto the banquet that Esther hath made.

If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I will prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king has said.”

If I have found H4672 (QalPerf) favour H2580 in the sight H5869 of the king, H4428 and if it please H2895 (QalPerf) the king H4428 to grant H5414 (QalInf) my petition, H7596 and to perform H6213 (QalInf) my request, H1246 let the king H4428 and Haman H2001 come H935 (QalImpf) to the banquet H4960 that I shall prepare H6213 (QalImpf) for them, and I will do H6213 (QalImpf) to morrow H4279 as the king H4428 hath said. if I have found grace in the eyes of the king, and if unto the king it be good, to give my petition, and to perform my request, the king doth come, and Haman, unto the banquet that I make for them, and to-morrow I do according to the word of the king.’

Nevertheless Haman restrained himself, and went home. There, he sent and called for his friends and Zeresh his wife.

Nevertheless Haman H2001 refrained H662 (HithImpf) himself: and when he came H935 (QalImpf) home, H1004 he sent H7971 (QalImpf) and called H935 (HiphImpf) for his friends, H157 (QalActPtc) and Zeresh H2238 his wife. H802

And Haman forceth himself, and cometh in unto his house, and sendeth, and bringeth in his friends, and Zeresh his wife,

Haman also said, “Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

Haman H2001 said H559 (QalImpf) moreover, Yea, Esther H635 the queen H4436 did let no man come in H935 (HiphPerf) with the king H4428 unto the banquet H4960 that she had prepared H6213 (QalPerf) but myself; and to morrow H4279 am I invited H7121 (QalPasPtc) unto her also with the king. H4428

And Haman saith, ‘Yea, Esther the queen brought none in with the king, unto the feast that she made, except myself, and also for to-morrow I am called to her, with the king,

Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows be made fifty cubits° high, and in the morning speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on it. Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet.” This pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.

Esther 5:14 A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) Zeresh H2238 his wife H802 and all his friends H157 (QalActPtc) unto him, Let a gallows H6086 be made H6213 (QalImpf) of fifty H2572 cubits H520 high, H1364 and to morrow H1242 speak H559 (QalImpv) thou unto the king H4428 that Mordecai H4782 may be hanged H8518 (QalImpf) thereon: then go H935 (QalImpv) thou in merrily H8056 with the king H4428 unto the banquet. H4960 And the thing H1697 pleased H3190 (QalImpf) H6440 Haman; H2001 and he caused H6213 the gallows H6086 to be made. H6213 (QalImpf)

And Zeresh his wife saith to him, and all his friends, ‘Let them prepare a tree, in height fifty cubits, and in the morning speak to the king, and they hang Mordecai on it, and go thou in with the king unto the banquet rejoicing;’ and the thing is good before Haman, and he prepareth the tree.

On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king.

On that night H3915 could not H5074 (QalPerf) the king H4428 sleep, H8142 and he commanded H559 (QalImpf) to bring H935 (HiphInf) the book H5612 of records H2146 of the chronicles; H1697 H3117 and they were read H7121 (NiphPtc) before H6440 the king. H4428

On that night hath the sleep of the king fled away, and he saith to bring in the book of memorials of the Chronicles, and they are read before the king,

The king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

And the king H4428 said, H559 (QalImpf) Who [is] in the court? H2691 Now Haman H2001 was come H935 (QalPerf) into the outward H2435 court H2691 of the king’s H4428 house, H1004 to speak H559 (QalInf) unto the king H4428 to hang H8518 (QalInf) Mordecai H4782 on the gallows H6086 that he had prepared H3559 (HiphPerf) for him.

And the king saith, ‘Who is in the court?’-and Haman hath come in to the outer court of the house of the king, to say to the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him-

The king’s servants said to him, “Behold,^§ Haman stands in the court.” The king said, “Let him come in.”

Esther 6:5 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

And the king’s H4428 servants H5288 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold, Haman H2001 standeth H5975 (QalActPtc) in the court. H2691 And the king H4428 said, H559 (QalImpf) Let him come in. H935 (QalImpf)

and the servants of the king say unto him, ‘Lo, Haman is standing in the court;’ and the king saith, ‘Let him come in.’

So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”

So Haman H2001 came in. H935 (QalImpf) And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, What shall be done H6213 (QalInf) unto the man H376 whom the king H4428 delighteth H2654 (QalPerf) to honour? And Haman cometh in, and the king saith to him, ‘What-to do with the man in whose honour the king hath delighted?’ And Haman saith in his heart, ‘To whom doth the king delight to do honour more than myself?’

let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set.

Let the royal H4438 apparel H3830 be brought H935 (HiphImpf) which the king H4428 [useth] to wear, H3847 (QalPerf) and the horse H5483 that the king H4428 rideth H7392 (QalPerf) upon, and the crown H3804 royal H4438 which is set H5414 (NiphPerf) upon his head: H7218

let them bring in royal clothing that the king hath put on himself, and a horse on which the king hath ridden, and that the royal crown be put on his head,

While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

And while they [were] yet talking H1696 (PielPtc) with him, came H5060 (HiphPerf) the king’s H4428 chamberlains, H5631 and hasted H926 (HiphImpf) to bring H935 (HiphInf) Haman H2001 unto the banquet H4960 that Esther H635 had prepared. H6213 (QalPerf)

They are yet speaking with him, and eunuchs of the king have come, and haste to bring in Haman unto the banquet that Esther hath made.

So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.

So the king H4428 and Haman H2001 came H935 (QalImpf) to banquet H8354 (QalInf) with Esther H635 the queen. H4436

And the king cometh in, and Haman, to drink with Esther the queen,

On that day, King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the Jews’ enemy, to Esther the queen. Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her.

On that day H3117 did the king H4428 Ahasuerus H325 give H5414 (QalPerf) the house H1004 of Haman H2001 the Jews’ H3064 enemy H6887 (QalActPtc) unto Esther H635 the queen. H4436 And Mordecai H4782 came H935 (QalPerf) before H6440 the king; H4428 for Esther H635 had told H5046 (HiphPerf) what he [was] unto her.

On that day hath the king Ahasuerus given to Esther the queen the house of Haman, adversary of the Jews, and Mordecai hath come in before the king, for Esther hath declared what he is to her,

On that day, the number of those who were slain in the citadel of Susa was brought before the king.

On that day H3117 the number H4557 of those that were slain H2026 (QalPasPtc) in Shushan H7800 the palace H1002 was brought H935 (QalPerf) before H6440 the king. H4428

On that day hath come the number of the slain in Shushan the palace before the king,

but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked plan, which he had planned against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

But when [Esther] came H935 (QalInf) before H6440 the king, H4428 he commanded H559 (QalPerf) by letters H5612 that his wicked H7451 device, H4284 which he devised H2803 (QalPerf) against the Jews, H3064 should return H7725 (QalImpf) upon his own head, H7218 and that he and his sons H1121 should be hanged H8518 (QalPerf) on the gallows. H6086

and in her coming in before the king, he said with the letter, ‘Let his evil device that he devised against the Jews turn back upon his own head,’ and they have hanged him and his sons on the tree,

Now on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before Yahweh,^§ Satan also came among them.

Job 1:6 “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “Lord” (all caps) in other translations.

And the day is, that sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst.

Yahweh said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, ‘Whence comest thou?’ And the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, ‘From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.’

that a messenger came to Job, and said, “The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,

And there came H935 (QalPerf) a messenger H4397 unto Job, H347 and said, H559 (QalImpf) The oxen H1241 were plowing, H2790 (QalActPtc) and the asses H860 feeding H7462 (QalActPtc) beside H3027 them:

And a messenger hath come in unto Job and saith, ‘The oxen have been plowing, and the she-asses feeding by their sides,

While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

While this one is speaking another also hath come and saith, ‘Fire of God hath fallen from the heavens, and burneth among the flock, and among the young men, and consumeth them, and I am escaped-only I alone-to declare it to thee.’

While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

While he [was] yet speaking, H1696 (PielPtc) there came H935 (QalActPtc) also another, and said, H559 (QalImpf) The Chaldeans H3778 made out H7760 (QalPerf) three H7969 bands, H7218 and fell H6584 (QalImpf) upon the camels, H1581 and have carried them away, H3947 (QalImpf) yea, and slain H5221 (HiphPerf) the servants H5288 with the edge H6310 of the sword; H2719 and I only am escaped H4422 (NiphImpf) alone to tell H5046 (HiphInf) thee.

While this one is speaking another also hath come and saith, ‘Chaldeans made three heads, and rush on the camels, and take them, and the young men they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, and I am escaped-only I alone-to declare it to thee.’

While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

While he [was] yet speaking, H1696 (PielPtc) there came H935 (QalActPtc) also another, and said, H559 (QalImpf) Thy sons H1121 and thy daughters H1323 [were] eating H398 (QalActPtc) and drinking H8354 (QalActPtc) wine H3196 in their eldest H1060 brother’s H251 house: H1004

While this one is speaking another also hath come and saith, ‘Thy sons and thy daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the first-born.

and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.”

And, behold, there came H935 (QalPerf) a great H1419 wind H7307 from H5676 the wilderness, H4057 and smote H5060 (QalImpf) the four H702 corners H6438 of the house, H1004 and it fell H5307 (QalImpf) upon the young men, H5288 and they are dead; H4191 (QalImpf) and I only am escaped H4422 (NiphImpf) alone to tell H5046 (HiphInf) thee.

And lo, a great wind hath come from over the wilderness, and striketh against the four corners of the house, and it falleth on the young men, and they are dead, and I am escaped-only I alone-to declare it to thee.’

Again, on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before Yahweh, Satan came also among them to present himself before Yahweh.

Again there was a day H3117 when the sons H1121 of God H430 came H935 (QalImpf) to present H3320 (HithInf) themselves before the Lord, H3068 and Satan H7854 came H935 (QalImpf) also among H8432 them to present H3320 (HithInf) himself before the Lord. H3068

And the day is, that sons of God come in to station themselves by Jehovah, and there doth come also the Adversary in their midst to station himself by Jehovah.

Yahweh said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

And Jehovah saith unto the Adversary, ‘Whence camest thou?’ And the Adversary answereth Jehovah and saith, ‘From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down in it.’

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come on him, they each came from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and to comfort him.

Now when Job’s H347 three H7969 friends H7453 heard H8085 (QalImpf) of all this evil H7451 that was come H935 (QalActPtc) upon him, they came H935 (QalImpf) every one H376 from his own place; H4725 Eliphaz H464 the Temanite, H8489 and Bildad H1085 the Shuhite, H7747 and Zophar H6691 the Naamathite: H5284 for they had made an appointment H3259 (NiphImpf) together H3162 to come H935 (QalInf) to mourn H5110 (QalInf) with him and to comfort H5162 (PielInf) him.

And three of the friends of Job hear of all this evil that hath come upon him, and they come in each from his place-Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite-and they are met together to come in to bemoan him, and to comfort him;

As for that night, let thick darkness seize on it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months.

As [for] that night, H3915 let darkness H652 seize H3947 (QalImpf) upon it; let it not be joined H2302 (QalImpf) unto the days H3117 of the year, H8141 let it not come H935 (QalImpf) into the number H4557 of the months. H3391

That night-let thick darkness take it, Let it not be united to days of the year, Into the number of months let it not come.

For a fear I feared and it meeteth me, And what I was afraid of doth come to me.

I was not safe-nor was I quiet- Nor was I at rest-and trouble cometh!

But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.

But now, it cometh in unto thee, And thou art weary; It striketh unto thee, and thou art troubled.

You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither will you be afraid of destruction when it comes.

When the tongue scourgeth thou art hid, And thou art not afraid of destruction, When it cometh.

You will come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in its season.

Thou comest in full age unto the grave, As the going up of a stalk in its season.

“Oh that I might have my request, that God would grant the thing that I long for,

They were distressed because they were confident. They came there, and were confounded.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

But if a man like myself-I answer him, We come together into judgment.

The tents of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are secure, who carry their god in their hands.

The tabernacles H168 of robbers H7703 (QalActPtc) prosper, H7951 (QalImpf) and they that provoke H7264 (HiphPtc) God H410 are secure; H987 into whose hand H3027 God H433 bringeth H935 (HiphPerf) [abundantly].

At peace are the tents of spoilers, And those provoking God have confidence, He into whose hand God hath brought.

This also will be my salvation, that a godless man will not come before him.

Also-He is to me for salvation, For the profane cometh not before Him.

Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?

Also-on this Thou hast opened Thine eyes, And dost bring me into judgment with Thee.
