All the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to Yahweh your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.”

και ειπαν πας ο λαος προς σαμουηλ προσευξαι υπερ των δουλων σου προς κυριον θεον σου και ου μη αποθανωμεν οτι προστεθεικαμεν προς πασας τας αμαρτιας ημων κακιαν αιτησαντες εαυτοις βασιλεα

Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.

και ειπαν οι παιδες σαουλ προς αυτον ιδου δη πνευμα κυριου πονηρον πνιγει σε

Let our lord now command your servants who are in front of you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with his hand, and you will be well.”

ειπατωσαν δη οι δουλοι σου ενωπιον σου και ζητησατωσαν τω κυριω ημων ανδρα ειδοτα ψαλλειν εν κινυρα και εσται εν τω ειναι πνευμα πονηρον επι σοι και ψαλει εν τη κινυρα αυτου και αγαθον σοι εσται και αναπαυσει σε

Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”

He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.

And he stood H5975 (QalImpf) and cried H7121 (QalImpf) unto the armies H4634 of Israel, H3478 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Why are ye come out H3318 (QalImpf) to set [your] battle H4421 in array? και εστη και ανεβοησεν εις την παραταξιν ισραηλ και ειπεν αυτοις τι εκπορευεσθε παραταξασθαι πολεμω εξ εναντιας ημων ουκ εγω ειμι αλλοφυλος και υμεις εβραιοι του σαουλ εκλεξασθε εαυτοις ανδρα και καταβητω προς με

If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us.”

και εαν δυνηθη προς εμε πολεμησαι και εαν παταξη με και εσομεθα υμιν εις δουλους εαν δε εγω δυνηθω και παταξω αυτον εσεσθε ημιν εις δουλους και δουλευσετε ημιν

David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

και ειπεν δαυιδ προς σαουλ μη δη συμπεσετω η καρδια του κυριου μου επ αυτον ο δουλος σου πορευσεται και πολεμησει μετα του αλλοφυλου τουτου

David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,

και ειπεν δαυιδ προς σαουλ ποιμαινων ην ο δουλος σου τω πατρι αυτου εν τω ποιμνιω και οταν ηρχετο ο λεων και η αρκος και ελαμβανεν προβατον εκ της αγελης

Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”

και την αρκον ετυπτεν ο δουλος σου και τον λεοντα και εσται ο αλλοφυλος ο απεριτμητος ως εν τουτων ουχι πορευσομαι και παταξω αυτον και αφελω σημερον ονειδος εξ ισραηλ διοτι τις ο απεριτμητος ουτος ος ωνειδισεν παραταξιν θεου ζωντος

Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war. It was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

Saul commanded his servants, “Talk with David secretly, and say, ‘Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore be the king’s son-in-law.’ ”

και ενετειλατο σαουλ τοις παισιν αυτου λεγων λαλησατε υμεις λαθρα τω δαυιδ λεγοντες ιδου ο βασιλευς θελει εν σοι και παντες οι παιδες αυτου αγαπωσιν σε και συ επιγαμβρευσον τω βασιλει

Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and little known?”

και ελαλησαν οι παιδες σαουλ εις τα ωτα δαυιδ τα ρηματα ταυτα και ειπεν δαυιδ ει κουφον εν οφθαλμοις υμων επιγαμβρευσαι βασιλει καγω ανηρ ταπεινος και ουχι ενδοξος

The servants of Saul told him, saying, “David spoke like this.”

και απηγγειλαν οι παιδες σαουλ αυτω κατα τα ρηματα ταυτα α ελαλησεν δαυιδ

When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the deadline,

και απαγγελλουσιν οι παιδες σαουλ τω δαυιδ τα ρηματα ταυτα και ευθυνθη ο λογος εν οφθαλμοις δαυιδ επιγαμβρευσαι τω βασιλει

Then the princes of the Philistines went out; and as often as they went out, David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly esteemed.

Then the princes H8269 of the Philistines H6430 went forth: H3318 (QalImpf) and it came to pass, after H1767 they went forth, H3318 (QalInf) [that] David H1732 behaved himself more wisely H7919 (QalPerf) than all the servants H5650 of Saul; H7586 so that his name H8034 was much H3966 set by. Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul’s son, greatly delighted in David.

Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, “Don’t let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you;

και ελαλησεν ιωναθαν περι δαυιδ αγαθα προς σαουλ τον πατερα αυτου και ειπεν προς αυτον μη αμαρτησατω ο βασιλευς εις τον δουλον σου δαυιδ οτι ουχ ημαρτηκεν εις σε και τα ποιηματα αυτου αγαθα σφοδρα

If he says, ‘It is well,’ your servant shall have peace; but if he is angry, then know that evil is determined by him.

If he say H559 (QalImpf) thus, [It is] well; H2896 thy servant H5650 shall have peace: H7965 but if he be very H2734 (QalInf) wroth, H2734 (QalImpf) [then] be sure H3045 (QalImpv) that evil H7451 is determined H3615 (QalPerf) by him.

εαν ταδε ειπη αγαθως ειρηνη τω δουλω σου και εαν σκληρως αποκριθη σοι γνωθι οτι συντετελεσται η κακια παρ αυτου

Therefore deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of Yahweh with you; but if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?”

και ποιησεις ελεος μετα του δουλου σου οτι εισηγαγες εις διαθηκην κυριου τον δουλον σου μετα σεαυτου και ει εστιν αδικια εν τω δουλω σου θανατωσον με συ και εως του πατρος σου ινα τι ουτως εισαγεις με

Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before Yahweh; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the best of the herdsmen who belonged to Saul.

Now a certain man H376 of the servants H5650 of Saul H7586 [was] there that day, H3117 detained H6113 (NiphPtc) before H6440 the Lord; H3068 and his name H8034 [was] Doeg, H1673 an Edomite, H130 the chiefest H47 of the herdmen H7462 (QalActPtc) that [belonged] to Saul. H7586

The servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David the king of the land? Didn’t they sing to one another about him in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”

^[21:12] και ειπαν οι παιδες αγχους προς αυτον ουχι ουτος δαυιδ ο βασιλευς της γης ουχι τουτω εξηρχον αι χορευουσαι λεγουσαι επαταξεν σαουλ εν χιλιασιν αυτου και δαυιδ εν μυριασιν αυτου

Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is insane. Why then have you brought him to me?

Saul heard that David was discovered, with the men who were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing around him.

Saul said to his servants who stood around him, “Hear now, you Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds?

Is that why all of you have conspired against me, and there is no one who discloses to me when my son makes a treaty with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as it is today?”

That all of you have conspired H7194 (QalPerf) against me, and [there is] none that sheweth H1540 (QalActPtc) H241 me that my son H1121 hath made a league H3772 (QalInf) with the son H1121 of Jesse, H3448 and [there is] none of you that is sorry H2470 (QalActPtc) for me, or sheweth H1540 (QalActPtc) H241 unto me that my son H1121 hath stirred up H6965 (HiphPerf) my servant H5650 against me, to lie in wait, H693 (QalActPtc) as at this day? οτι συγκεισθε παντες υμεις επ εμε και ουκ εστιν ο αποκαλυπτων το ωτιον μου εν τω διαθεσθαι τον υιον μου διαθηκην μετα του υιου ιεσσαι και ουκ εστιν πονων περι εμου εξ υμων και αποκαλυπτων το ωτιον μου οτι επηγειρεν ο υιος μου τον δουλον μου επ εμε εις εχθρον ως η ημερα αυτη

Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

και αποκρινεται δωηκ ο συρος ο καθεστηκως επι τας ημιονους σαουλ και ειπεν εορακα τον υιον ιεσσαι παραγινομενον εις νομβα προς αβιμελεχ υιον αχιτωβ τον ιερεα

Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, “Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, captain of your body guard, and honored in your house?

Then Ahimelech H288 answered H6030 (QalImpf) the king, H4428 and said, H559 (QalImpf) And who [is so] faithful H539 (NiphPtc) among all thy servants H5650 as David, H1732 which is the king’s H4428 son in law, H2860 and goeth H5493 (QalPerf) at thy bidding, H4928 and is honourable H3513 (NiphPtc) in thine house? H1004

και απεκριθη τω βασιλει και ειπεν και τις εν πασιν τοις δουλοις σου ως δαυιδ πιστος και γαμβρος του βασιλεως και αρχων παντος παραγγελματος σου και ενδοξος εν τω οικω σου

Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me! Don’t let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.”

Did I then H3117 begin H2490 (HiphPerf) to enquire H7592 (QalInf) of God H430 for him? be it far from me: H2486 let not the king H4428 impute H7760 (QalImpf) [any] thing H1697 unto his servant, H5650 [nor] to all the house H1004 of my father: H1 for thy servant H5650 knew H3045 (QalPerf) nothing H1697 of all this, less H6996 or more. η σημερον ηργμαι ερωταν αυτω δια του θεου μηδαμως μη δοτω ο βασιλευς κατα του δουλου αυτου λογον και εφ ολον τον οικον του πατρος μου οτι ουκ ηδει ο δουλος ο σος εν πασιν τουτοις ρημα μικρον η μεγα

The king said to the guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of Yahweh, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled and didn’t disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king wouldn’t put out their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the footmen H7323 (QalPtc) that stood H5324 (NiphPtc) about him, Turn, H5437 (QalImpv) and slay H4191 (HiphImpv) the priests H3548 of the Lord; H3068 because their hand H3027 also [is] with David, H1732 and because they knew H3045 (QalPerf) when he fled, H1272 (QalActPtc) and did not shew H1540 (QalPerf) H241 it to me. But the servants H5650 of the king H4428 would H14 (QalPerf) not put forth H7971 (QalInf) their hand H3027 to fall H6293 (QalInf) upon the priests H3548 of the Lord. H3068

και ειπεν ο βασιλευς τοις παρατρεχουσιν τοις εφεστηκοσιν επ αυτον προσαγαγετε και θανατουτε τους ιερεις του κυριου οτι η χειρ αυτων μετα δαυιδ και οτι εγνωσαν οτι φευγει αυτος και ουκ απεκαλυψαν το ωτιον μου και ουκ εβουληθησαν οι παιδες του βασιλεως επενεγκειν τας χειρας αυτων απαντησαι εις τους ιερεις κυριου

Then David said, “O Yahweh, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) David, H1732 O Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 thy servant H5650 hath certainly H8085 (QalInf) heard H8085 (QalPerf) that Saul H7586 seeketh H1245 (PielPtc) to come H935 (QalInf) to Keilah, H7084 to destroy H7843 (PielInf) the city H5892 for my sake.

και ειπεν δαυιδ κυριε ο θεος ισραηλ ακουων ακηκοεν ο δουλος σου οτι ζητει σαουλ ελθειν επι κειλα διαφθειραι την πολιν δι εμε

Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? Yahweh, the God of Israel, I beg you, tell your servant.” Yahweh said, “He will come down.”

Will the men H1167 of Keilah H7084 deliver me up H5462 (HiphImpf) into his hand? H3027 will Saul H7586 come down, H3381 (QalImpf) as thy servant H5650 hath heard? ει αποκλεισθησεται και νυν ει καταβησεται σαουλ καθως ηκουσεν ο δουλος σου κυριε ο θεος ισραηλ απαγγειλον τω δουλω σου και ειπεν κυριος αποκλεισθησεται

Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a good day. Please give whatever comes to your hand to your servants and to your son David.’ ”

Ask H7592 (QalImpv) thy young men, H5288 and they will shew H5046 (HiphImpf) thee. Wherefore let the young men H5288 find H4672 (QalImpf) favour H2580 in thine eyes: H5869 for we come H935 (QalPerf) in a good H2896 day: H3117 give, H5414 (QalImpv) I pray thee, whatsoever cometh H4672 (QalImpf) to thine hand H3027 unto thy servants, H5650 and to thy son H1121 David. ερωτησον τα παιδαρια σου και απαγγελουσιν σοι και ευρετωσαν τα παιδαρια χαριν εν οφθαλμοις σου οτι εφ ημεραν αγαθην ηκομεν δος δη ο εαν ευρη η χειρ σου τω υιω σου τω δαυιδ

Nabal answered David’s servants and said, “Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.

και απεκριθη ναβαλ τοις παισιν δαυιδ και ειπεν τις ο δαυιδ και τις ο υιος ιεσσαι σημερον πεπληθυμμενοι εισιν οι δουλοι αναχωρουντες εκαστος εκ προσωπου του κυριου αυτου

When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed is Yahweh, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from evil. και ανεστη και προσεκυνησεν επι την γην επι προσωπον και ειπεν ιδου η δουλη σου εις παιδισκην νιψαι ποδας των παιδων σου

He said, “Why does my lord pursue his servant? For what have I done? What evil is in my hand?

και ειπεν ινα τι τουτο καταδιωκει ο κυριος μου οπισω του δουλου αυτου οτι τι ημαρτηκα και τι ευρεθη εν εμοι αδικημα

Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. και νυν ακουσατω δη ο κυριος μου ο βασιλευς το ρημα του δουλου αυτου ει ο θεος επισειει σε επ εμε οσφρανθειη θυσιας σου και ει υιοι ανθρωπων επικαταρατοι ουτοι ενωπιον κυριου οτι εξεβαλον με σημερον μη εστηρισθαι εν κληρονομια κυριου λεγοντες πορευου δουλευε θεοις ετεροις

και ειπεν δαυιδ προς αγχους ει δη ευρηκεν ο δουλος σου χαριν εν οφθαλμοις σου δοτωσαν δη μοι τοπον εν μια των πολεων των κατ αγρον και καθησομαι εκει και ινα τι καθηται ο δουλος σου εν πολει βασιλευομενη μετα σου

και ειπον οι σατραπαι των αλλοφυλων τινες οι διαπορευομενοι ουτοι και ειπεν αγχους προς τους στρατηγους των αλλοφυλων ουχ ουτος δαυιδ ο δουλος σαουλ βασιλεως ισραηλ γεγονεν μεθ ημων ημερας τουτο δευτερον ετος και ουχ ευρηκα εν αυτω ουθεν αφ ης ημερας ενεπεσεν προς με και εως της ημερας ταυτης

David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”

και ειπεν δαυιδ προς αγχους τι πεποιηκα σοι και τι ευρες εν τω δουλω σου αφ ης ημερας ημην ενωπιον σου και εως της ημερας ταυτης οτι ου μη ελθω πολεμησαι τους εχθρους του κυριου μου του βασιλεως

Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart.”

David asked him, “To whom do you belong? Where are you from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I got sick.

και ειπεν αυτω δαυιδ τινος συ ει και ποθεν ει και ειπεν το παιδαριον το αιγυπτιον εγω ειμι δουλος ανδρος αμαληκιτου και κατελιπεν με ο κυριος μου οτι ηνωχληθην εγω σημερον τριταιος
