“Then the Tent of Meeting shall set out, with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camps. As they encamp, so shall they set out, every man in his place, by their standards.

Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they encamped by their standards, and so they set out, everyone by their families, according to their fathers’ houses.

And the sons of Israel do according to all that Jehovah hath commanded Moses; so they have encamped by their standards, and so they have journeyed; each by his families, by the house of his fathers.

but do this to them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint everyone to his service and to his burden;

According to the commandment of Yahweh they were counted by Moses, everyone according to his service and according to his burden. Thus they were counted by him, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

According to the commandment H6310 of the Lord H3068 they were numbered H6485 (QalPerf) by the hand H3027 of Moses, H4872 every H376 one H376 according to his service, H5656 and according to his burden: H4853 thus were they numbered H6485 (QalPasPtc) of him, as the Lord H3068 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) Moses. by the command of Jehovah hath one numbered them, by the hand of Moses, each man by his service, and by his burden, with his numbered ones, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

“Speak to the children of Israel: ‘When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit, so as to trespass against Yahweh, and that soul is guilty,

‘Speak unto the sons of Israel, Man or woman, when they do any of the sins of man, by committing a trespass against Jehovah, and that person is guilty,

But if the man has no kinsman to whom restitution may be made for the guilt, the restitution for guilt which is made to Yahweh shall be the priest’s, in addition to the ram of the atonement, by which atonement shall be made for him.

But if the man H376 have no kinsman H1350 (QalActPtc) to recompense H7725 (HiphInf) the trespass H817 unto, let the trespass H817 be recompensed H7725 (HophPtc) unto the Lord, H3068 [even] to the priest; H3548 beside the ram H352 of the atonement, H3725 whereby an atonement shall be made H3722 (PielImpf) for him.

‘And if the man have no redeemer to restore the guilt to, the guilt which is restored is Jehovah’s, the priest’s, apart from the ram of the atonements, whereby he maketh atonement for him.

Every man’s holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives the priest, it shall be his.’ ”

And every man’s H376 hallowed things H6944 shall be his: whatsoever any man H376 giveth H5414 (QalImpf) the priest, H3548 it shall be his.

and any man’s hallowed things become his; that which any man giveth to the priest becometh his.’

“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them: ‘If any man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him,

then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and shall bring her offering for her: one tenth of an ephah° of barley meal. He shall pour no oil on it, nor put frankincense on it, for it is a meal offering of jealousy, a meal offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to memory.

‘Then hath the man brought in his wife unto the priest, and he hath brought in her offering for her, a tenth of the ephah of barley meal, he doth not pour on it oil, nor doth he put on it frankincense, for it is a present of jealousy, a present of memorial, causing remembrance of iniquity.

The priest shall cause her to take an oath and shall tell the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you haven’t gone aside to uncleanness, being under your husband’s authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings a curse.

‘And the priest hath caused her to swear, and hath said unto the woman, If no man hath lain with thee, and if thou hast not turned aside to uncleanness under thy husband, be free from these bitter waters which cause the curse;

But if you have gone astray, being under your husband’s authority, and if you are defiled, and some man has lain with you besides your husband—”

and thou, if thou hast turned aside under thy husband, and if thou hast been defiled, and any man doth give his copulation to thee besides thy husband-

When he has made her drink the water, then it shall happen, if she is defiled and has committed a trespass against her husband, that the water that causes the curse will enter into her and become bitter, and her body will swell, and her thigh will fall away; and the woman will be a curse among her people.

yea, he hath caused her to drink the water, and it hath come to pass, if she hath been defiled, and doth commit a trespass against her husband, that the waters which cause the curse have gone into her for bitter things, and her belly hath swelled, and her thigh hath fallen, and the woman hath become an execration in the midst of her people.

“ ‘This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, being under her husband, goes astray, and is defiled,

‘This is the law of jealousies, when a wife turneth aside under her husband, and hath been defiled,

or when the spirit of jealousy comes on a man, and he is jealous of his wife; then he shall set the woman before Yahweh, and the priest shall execute on her all this law.

or when a spirit of jealousy passeth over a man, and he hath been jealous of his wife, then he hath caused the woman to stand before Jehovah, and the priest hath done to her all this law,

The man shall be free from iniquity, and that woman shall bear her iniquity.’ ”

and the man hath been acquitted from iniquity, and that woman doth bear her iniquity.’

“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them: ‘When either man or woman shall make a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to Yahweh,

‘Receive from them, and they have been to do the service of the tent of meeting, and thou hast given them unto the Levites, each according to his service.’

There were certain men who were unclean because of the dead body of a man, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day, and they came before Moses and Aaron on that day.

And there were certain men, H582 who were defiled H2931 by the dead body H5315 of a man, H120 that they could H3201 (QalPerf) not keep H6213 (QalInf) the passover H6453 on that day: H3117 and they came H7126 (QalImpf) before H6440 Moses H4872 and before H6440 Aaron H175 on that day: H3117

And there are men who have been defiled by the body of a man, and they have not been able to prepare the passover on that day, and they come near before Moses, and before Aaron, on that day,

Those men said to him, “We are unclean because of the dead body of a man. Why are we kept back, that we may not offer the offering of Yahweh in its appointed season among the children of Israel?”

And those H1992 men H582 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, We [are] defiled H2931 by the dead body H5315 of a man: H120 wherefore are we kept back, H1639 (NiphImpf) that we may not offer H7126 (HiphInf) an offering H7133 of the Lord H3068 in his appointed season H4150 among H8432 the children H1121 of Israel? H3478

and those men say unto him, ‘We are defiled by the body of a man; why are we withheld so as not to bring near the offering of Jehovah in its appointed season, in the midst of the sons of Israel?’

“Say to the children of Israel, ‘If any man of you or of your generations is unclean by reason of a dead body, or is on a journey far away, he shall still keep the Passover to Yahweh.

Speak H1696 (PielImpv) unto the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 (QalInf) If any H376 man H376 of you or of your posterity H1755 shall be unclean H2931 by reason of a dead body, H5315 or [be] in a journey H1870 afar off, H7350 yet he shall keep H6213 (QalPerf) the passover H6453 unto the Lord. ‘Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, Though any man is unclean by a body or in a distant journey (of you or of your generations), yet he hath prepared a passover to Jehovah;

But the man who is clean, and is not on a journey, and fails to keep the Passover, that soul shall be cut off from his people. Because he didn’t offer the offering of Yahweh in its appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

But the man H376 that [is] clean, H2889 and is not in a journey, H1870 and forbeareth H2308 (QalPerf) to keep H6213 (QalInf) the passover, H6453 even the same soul H5315 shall be cut off H3772 (NiphPerf) from among his people: H5971 because he brought H7126 (HiphPerf) not the offering H7133 of the Lord H3068 in his appointed season, H4150 that man H376 shall bear H5375 (QalImpf) his sin. ‘And the man who is clean, and hath not been on a journey, and hath ceased to prepare the passover, even that person hath been cut off from his people; because the offering of Jehovah he hath not brought near, in its appointed season, that man doth bear his sin.

Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and Yahweh’s anger burned greatly; and Moses was displeased.

Then Moses H4872 heard H8085 (QalImpf) the people H5971 weep H1058 (QalActPtc) throughout their families, H4940 every man H376 in the door H6607 of his tent: H168 and the anger H639 of the Lord H3068 was kindled H2734 (QalImpf) greatly; H3966 Moses H4872 also was displeased. H7489 (QalPerf) H5869

And Moses heareth the people weeping by its families, each at the opening of his tent, and the anger of Jehovah burneth exceedingly, and in the eyes of Moses it is evil.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Gather H622 (QalImpv) unto me seventy H7657 men H376 of the elders H2205 of Israel, H3478 whom thou knowest H3045 (QalPerf) to be the elders H2205 of the people, H5971 and officers H7860 (QalActPtc) over them; and bring H3947 (QalPerf) them unto the tabernacle H168 of the congregation, H4150 that they may stand H3320 (HithPerf) there with thee.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou hast known that they are elders of the people, and its authorities; and thou hast taken them unto the tent of meeting, and they have stationed themselves there with thee,

Moses went out, and told the people Yahweh’s words; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the Tent.

And Moses goeth out, and speaketh unto the people the words of Jehovah, and gathereth seventy men of the elders of the people, and causeth them to stand round about the tent,

Yahweh came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.

and Jehovah cometh down in the cloud, and speaketh unto him, and keepeth back of the Spirit which is on him, and putteth on the seventy men of the elders; and it cometh to pass at the resting of the Spirit on them, that they prophesy, and do not cease.

But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the Spirit rested on them. They were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp.

But there remained H7604 (NiphImpf) two H8147 [of the] men H582 in the camp, H4264 the name H8034 of the one H259 [was] Eldad, H419 and the name H8034 of the other H8145 Medad: H4312 and the spirit H7307 rested H5117 (QalImpf) upon them; and they [were] of them that were written, H3789 (QalPasPtc) but went not out H3318 (QalPerf) unto the tabernacle: H168 and they prophesied H5012 (HithImpf) in the camp. And two of the men are left in the camp, the name of the one is Eldad, and the name of the second Medad, and the spirit resteth upon them, (and they are among those written, and have not gone out to the tent), and they prophesy in the camp;

Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all the men who were on the surface of the earth.

(Now the man H376 Moses H4872 [was] very H3966 meek, H6035 (Qere) H6035 above all the men H120 which [were] upon the face H6440 of the earth. H127)

And the man Moses is very humble, more than any of the men who are on the face of the ground.

“Send men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel. Of every tribe of their fathers, you shall send a man, every one a prince among them.”

Send H7971 (QalImpv) thou men, H582 that they may search H8446 (QalImpf) the land H776 of Canaan, H3667 which I give H5414 (QalActPtc) unto the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 of every H376 tribe H4294 of their fathers H1 shall ye send H7971 (QalImpf) a man, H259 every one a ruler H5387 among them.

‘Send for thee men, and they spy the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel; one man, one man for the tribe of his fathers ye do send, every one a prince among them.’

Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Yahweh. All of them were men who were heads of the children of Israel.

And Moses H4872 by the commandment H6310 of the Lord H3068 sent H7971 (QalImpf) them from the wilderness H4057 of Paran: H6290 all those men H582 [were] H1992 heads H7218 of the children H1121 of Israel. H3478

And Moses sendeth them from the wilderness of Paran by the command of Jehovah; all of them are men, heads of the sons of Israel they are,

These are the names of the men who Moses sent to spy out the land. Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

These [are] the names H8034 of the men H582 which Moses H4872 sent H7971 (QalPerf) to spy out H8446 (QalInf) the land. H776 And Moses H4872 called H7121 (QalImpf) Oshea H1954 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 Jehoshua. H3091

These are the names of the men whom Moses hath sent to spy the land; and Moses calleth Hoshea son of Nun, Jehoshua.

But the men who went up with him said, “We aren’t able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.”

But the men H582 that went up H5927 (QalPerf) with him said, H559 (QalPerf) We be not able H3201 (QalImpf) to go up H5927 (QalInf) against the people; H5971 for they [are] stronger H2389 than we.

And the men who have gone up with him said, ‘We are not able to go up against the people, for it is stronger than we;’

They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.

and they bring out an evil account of the land which they have spied unto the sons of Israel, saying, ‘The land into which we passed over to spy it, is a land eating up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in its midst are men of stature;

They said to one another, “Let’s choose a leader, and let’s return into Egypt.”

And they say one unto another, ‘Let us appoint a head, and turn back to Egypt.’

Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

Now [if] thou shalt kill H4191 (HiphPerf) [all] this people H5971 as one H259 man, H376 then the nations H1471 which have heard H8085 (QalPerf) the fame H8088 of thee will speak, H559 (QalPerf) saying, H559 (QalInf)

‘And Thou hast put to death this people as one man, and the nations who have heard Thy fame have spoken, saying,

because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;

Because all those men H582 which have seen H7200 (QalActPtc) my glory, H3519 and my miracles, H226 which I did H6213 (QalPerf) in Egypt H4714 and in the wilderness, H4057 and have tempted H5254 (PielImpf) H853 me now these ten H6235 times, H6471 and have not hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) to my voice; H6963

for all the men who are seeing My honour, and My signs, which I have done in Egypt, and in the wilderness, and try Me these ten times, and have not hearkened to My voice-

The men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up an evil report against the land,

And the men, H582 which Moses H4872 sent H7971 (QalPerf) to search H8446 (QalInf) the land, H776 who returned, H7725 (QalImpf) and made all the congregation H5712 to murmur H3885 (HiphImpf) (Qere) H3885 (NiphImpf) against him, by bringing up H3318 (HiphInf) a slander H1681 upon the land, H776

And the men whom Moses hath sent to spy the land, and they turn back and cause all the company to murmur against him, by bringing out an evil account concerning the land,

even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.

Even those H582 men H582 that did bring up H3318 (HiphPtc) the evil H7451 report H1681 upon the land, H776 died H4191 (QalImpf) by the plague H4046 before H6440 the Lord. H3068

even the men bringing out an evil account of the land die by the plague before Jehovah;

But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.

But Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun, H5126 and Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh, H3312 [which were] of the men H1992 H582 that went H1980 (QalActPtc) to search H8446 (QalInf) the land, H776 lived H2421 (QalPerf) [still].

and Joshua son of Nun, and Caleb son of Jephunneh, have lived of those men who go to spy out the land.

While the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day.

And while the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were in the wilderness, H4057 they found H4672 (QalImpf) a man H376 that gathered H7197 (PoelPtc) sticks H6086 upon the sabbath H7676 day. H3117

And the sons of Israel are in the wilderness, and they find a man gathering wood on the sabbath-day,

Yahweh said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him with stones outside of the camp.”

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘The man is certainly put to death, all the company stoning him with stones, at the outside of the camp.’

They rose up before Moses, with some of the children of Israel, two hundred fifty princes of the congregation, called to the assembly, men of renown.

put fire in them, and put incense on them before Yahweh tomorrow. It shall be that the man whom Yahweh chooses, he shall be holy. You have gone too far, you sons of Levi!”

and put in them fire, and put on them perfume, before Jehovah to-morrow, and it hath been, the man whom Jehovah chooseth, he is the holy one;-enough of you, sons of Levi.’

Moreover you haven’t brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We won’t come up.”

Yea, unto a land flowing with milk and honey thou hast not brought us in, nor dost thou give to us an inheritance of field and vineyard; the eyes of these men dost thou pick out? we do not come up.’

Each man take his censer and put incense on it, and each man bring before Yahweh his censer, two hundred fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each with his censer.”

and take ye each his censer, and ye have put on them perfume, and brought near before Jehovah, each his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou and Aaron, each his censer.’

They each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and stood at the door of the Tent of Meeting with Moses and Aaron.

And they took H3947 (QalImpf) every man H376 his censer, H4289 and put H5414 (QalImpf) fire H784 in them, and laid H7760 (QalImpf) incense H7004 thereon, and stood H5975 (QalImpf) in the door H6607 of the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 with Moses H4872 and Aaron. H175

And they take each his censer, and put on them fire, and lay on them perfume, and they stand at the opening of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.

They fell on their faces, and said, “God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”

And they fell H5307 (QalImpf) upon their faces, H6440 and said, H559 (QalImpf) O God, H410 the God H430 of the spirits H7307 of all flesh, H1320 shall one H259 man H376 sin, H2398 (QalImpf) and wilt thou be wroth H7107 (QalImpf) with all the congregation? H5712

and they fall on their faces, and say, ‘God, God of the spirits of all flesh-the one man sinneth, and against all the company Thou art wroth!’

He spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins!”

And he spake H1696 (PielImpf) unto the congregation, H5712 saying, H559 (QalInf) Depart, H5493 (QalImpv) I pray you, from the tents H168 of these wicked H7563 men, H582 and touch H5060 (QalImpf) nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed H5595 (NiphImpf) in all their sins. H2403

and he speaketh unto the company, saying, ‘Turn aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and come not against anything that they have, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.’

But if Yahweh makes a new thing, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up with all that belong to them, and they go down alive into Sheol,° then you shall understand that these men have despised Yahweh.”

Numbers 16:30 Sheol is the place of the dead.

But if the Lord H3068 make H1254 (QalImpf) a new thing, H1278 and the earth H127 open H6475 (QalPerf) her mouth, H6310 and swallow them up, H1104 (QalPerf) with all that [appertain] unto them, and they go down H3381 (QalPerf) quick H2416 into the pit; H7585 then ye shall understand H3045 (QalPerf) that these men H582 have provoked H5006 (PielPerf) the Lord. H3068

and if a strange thing Jehovah do, and the ground hath opened her mouth and swallowed them, and all that they have, and they have gone down alive to Sheol-then ye have known that these men have despised Jehovah.’

Fire came out from Yahweh, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.

And there came out H3318 (QalPerf) a fire H784 from the Lord, H3068 and consumed H398 (QalImpf) the two hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 men H376 that offered H7126 (HiphPtc) incense. H7004

and fire hath come out from Jehovah, and consumeth the two hundred and fifty men bringing near the perfume.
