The children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, so Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 (QalImpf) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the Lord: H3068 and the Lord H3068 delivered H5414 (QalImpf) them into the hand H3027 of Midian H4080 seven H7651 years. H8141

And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of Midian seven years,

The hand of Midian prevailed against Israel; and because of Midian the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, the caves, and the strongholds.

And the hand H3027 of Midian H4080 prevailed H5810 (QalImpf) against Israel: H3478 [and] because H6440 of the Midianites H4080 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 made H6213 (QalPerf) them the dens H4492 which [are] in the mountains, H2022 and caves, H4631 and strong holds. H4679

and the hand of Midian is strong against Israel, from the presence of Midian have the sons of Israel made for themselves the flowings which are in the mountains, and the caves, and the strongholds.

I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land.

Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,

And Gideon saith unto God, ‘If Thou art Saviour of Israel by my hand, as Thou hast spoken,

behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I’ll know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken.”

Yahweh said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel brag against me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Gideon, H1439 The people H5971 that [are] with thee [are] too many H7227 for me to give H5414 (QalInf) the Midianites H4080 into their hands, H3027 lest Israel H3478 vaunt H6286 (HithImpf) themselves against me, saying, H559 (QalInf) Mine own hand H3027 hath saved H3467 (HiphPerf) me.

And Jehovah saith unto Gideon, ‘Too many are the people who are with thee for My giving Midian into their hand, lest Israel beautify itself against Me, saying, My hand hath given salvation to me;

The number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people bowed down on their knees to drink water.

And the number of those lapping with their hand unto their mouth is three hundred men, and all the rest of the people have bowed down on their knees to drink water.

Yahweh said to Gideon, “I will save you by the three hundred men who lapped, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, each to his own place.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Gideon, H1439 By the three H7969 hundred H3967 men H376 that lapped H3952 (PielPtc) will I save H3467 (HiphImpf) you, and deliver H5414 (QalPerf) the Midianites H4080 into thine hand: H3027 and let all the [other] people H5971 go H3212 (QalImpf) every man H376 unto his place. H4725

And Jehovah saith unto Gideon, ‘By the three hundred men who are lapping I save you, and have given Midian into thy hand, and all the people go, each to his place.’

So the people took food in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the rest of the men of Israel to their own tents, but retained the three hundred men; and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

And the people take the provision in their hand, and their trumpets, and every man of Israel he hath sent away, each to his tents; and on the three hundred men he hath kept hold, and the camp of Midian hath been by him at the lower part of the valley.

That same night, Yahweh said to him, “Arise, go down into the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.

And it cometh to pass, on that night, that Jehovah saith unto him, ‘Rise, go down into the camp, for I have given it into thy hand;

You will hear what they say; and afterward your hands will be strengthened to go down into the camp.” Then went he down with Purah his servant to the outermost part of the armed men who were in the camp.

His fellow answered, “This is nothing other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has delivered Midian into his hand, with all the army.”

And his companion answereth and saith, ‘This is nothing save the sword of Gideon son of Joash, a man of Israel; God hath given into his hand Midian and all the camp.’

It was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. Then he returned into the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for Yahweh has delivered the army of Midian into your hand!”

And it was [so], when Gideon H1439 heard H8085 (QalInf) the telling H4557 of the dream, H2472 and the interpretation H7667 thereof, that he worshipped, H7812 (HithImpf) and returned H7725 (QalImpf) into the host H4264 of Israel, H3478 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Arise; H6965 (QalImpv) for the Lord H3068 hath delivered H5414 (QalPerf) into your hand H3027 the host H4264 of Midian. And it cometh to pass, when Gideon heareth the narration of the dream and its interpretation, that he boweth himself, and turneth back unto the camp of Israel, and saith, ‘Rise ye, for Jehovah hath given into your hand the camp of Midian.’

He divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them trumpets and empty pitchers, with torches within the pitchers.

And he divided H2673 (QalImpf) the three H7969 hundred H3967 men H376 [into] three H7969 companies, H7218 and he put H5414 (QalImpf) a trumpet H7782 in every man’s hand, H3027 with empty H7386 pitchers, H3537 and lamps H3940 within H8432 the pitchers. H3537

And he divideth the three hundred men into three detachments, and putteth trumpets into the hand of all of them, and empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch. Then they blew the trumpets and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.

And Gideon cometh-and the hundred men who are with him-into the extremity of the camp, at the beginning of the middle watch (it hath only just confirmed the watchmen), and they blow with trumpets-dashing in pieces also the pitchers which are in their hand;

The three companies blew the trumpets, broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands with which to blow; and they shouted, “The sword of Yahweh and of Gideon!”

and the three detachments blow with trumpets, and break the pitchers, and keep hold with their left hand on the lamps, and with their right hand on the trumpets to blow, and they cry, ‘The sword of Jehovah and of Gideon.’

God has delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb! What was I able to do in comparison with you?” Then their anger was abated toward him when he had said that.

Into your hand hath God given the heads of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what have I been able to do like you?’ Then their temper desisted from off him in his speaking this thing.

The princes of Succoth said, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

And the princes H8269 of Succoth H5523 said, H559 (QalImpf) [Are] the hands H3709 of Zebah H2078 and Zalmunna H6759 now in thine hand, H3027 that we should give H5414 (QalImpf) bread H3899 unto thine army? H6635

And the heads of Succoth say, ‘Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we give to thy host bread?’

Gideon said, “Therefore when Yahweh has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.”

And Gideon saith, ‘Therefore-in Jehovah’s giving Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand-I have threshed your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and with the threshing instruments.’

He came to the men of Succoth, and said, “See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’ ”

And he came H935 (QalImpf) unto the men H582 of Succoth, H5523 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold Zebah H2078 and Zalmunna, H6759 with whom ye did upbraid H2778 (PielPerf) me, saying, H559 (QalInf) [Are] the hands H3709 of Zebah H2078 and Zalmunna H6759 now in thine hand, H3027 that we should give H5414 (QalImpf) bread H3899 unto thy men H582 [that are] weary? And he cometh in unto the men of Succoth, and saith, ‘Lo Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye reproached me, saying, Is the hand of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand that we give to thy men who are wearied bread?’

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, your son, and your son’s son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midian.”

Then the men H376 of Israel H3478 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Gideon, H1439 Rule H4910 (QalImpv) thou over us, both thou, and thy son, H1121 and thy son’s H1121 son H1121 also: for thou hast delivered H3467 (HiphPerf) us from the hand H3027 of Midian. H4080

And the men of Israel say unto Gideon, ‘Rule over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, for thou hast saved us from the hand of Midian.’

The children of Israel didn’t remember Yahweh their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side;

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 remembered H2142 (QalPerf) not the Lord H3068 their God, H430 who had delivered H5337 (HiphPtc) them out of the hands H3027 of all their enemies H341 (QalActPtc) on every side: H5439

and the sons of Israel have not remembered Jehovah their God, who is delivering them out of the hand of all their enemies round about,

“Now therefore, if you have dealt truly and righteously, in that you have made Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him according to the deserving of his hands

Now therefore, if ye have done H6213 (QalPerf) truly H571 and sincerely, H8549 in that ye have made Abimelech H40 king, H4427 (HiphImpf) and if ye have dealt H6213 (QalPerf) well H2896 with Jerubbaal H3378 and his house, H1004 and have done H6213 (QalPerf) unto him according to the deserving H1576 of his hands; H3027

‘And, now, if in truth and in sincerity ye have acted, when ye make Abimelech king; and if ye have done good with Jerubbaal, and with his house; and if according to the deed of his hands ye have done to him-

(for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;

(For my father H1 fought H3898 (NiphPerf) for you, and adventured H7993 (HiphImpf) his life H5315 far, H5048 and delivered H5337 (HiphImpf) you out of the hand H3027 of Midian: H4080

because my father hath fought for you, and doth cast away his life from him, and deliver you from the hand of Midian;

that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid on Abimelech their brother who killed them, and on the men of Shechem who strengthened his hands to kill his brothers.

That the cruelty H2555 [done] to the threescore and ten H7657 sons H1121 of Jerubbaal H3378 might come, H935 (QalInf) and their blood H1818 be laid H7760 (QalInf) upon Abimelech H40 their brother, H251 which slew H2026 (QalPerf) them; and upon the men H1167 of Shechem, H7927 which aided H2388 (PielPerf) H3027 him in the killing H2026 (QalInf) of his brethren. for the coming in of the violence to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal, and of their blood to place it on Abimelech their brother, who slew them, and on the masters of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slay his brethren.

I wish that this people were under my hand! Then I would remove Abimelech.” He said to Abimelech, “Increase your army and come out!”

And would to God this people H5971 were under H5414 (QalImpf) my hand! H3027 then would I remove H5493 (HiphImpf) Abimelech. H40 And he said H559 (QalImpf) to Abimelech, H40 Increase H7235 (PielImpv) thine army, H6635 and come out. H3318 (QalImpv)

and oh that this people were in my hand-then I turn Abimelech aside;’ and he saith to Abimelech, ‘Increase thy host, and come out.’

It shall be that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, you shall rise early and rush on the city. Behold, when he and the people who are with him come out against you, then may you do to them as you shall find occasion.”

and it hath been, in the morning, about the rising of the sun, thou dost rise early, and hast pushed against the city; and lo, he and the people who are with him are going out unto thee-and thou hast done to him as thy hand doth find.’

Abimelech went up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the people who were with him; and Abimelech took an ax in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it up, and laid it on his shoulder. Then he said to the people who were with him, “What you have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done!”

and Abimelech goeth up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people who are with him, and Abimelech taketh the great axe in his hand, and cutteth off a bough of the trees, and lifteth it up, and setteth it on his shoulder, and saith unto the people who are with him, ‘What ye have seen I have done-haste, do ye like it.’

Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the children of Ammon.

And the anger H639 of the Lord H3068 was hot H2734 (QalImpf) against Israel, H3478 and he sold H4376 (QalImpf) them into the hands H3027 of the Philistines, H6430 and into the hands H3027 of the children H1121 of Ammon. H5983

and the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the Bene-Ammon,

The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand.

Yahweh, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck them. So Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.

and Jehovah, God of Israel, giveth Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smite them, and Israel possesseth all the land of the Amorite, the inhabitant of that land,

Israel lived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along the side of the Arnon for three hundred years! Why didn’t you recover them within that time?

While Israel H3478 dwelt H3427 (QalInf) in Heshbon H2809 and her towns, H1323 and in Aroer H6177 and her towns, H1323 and in all the cities H5892 that [be] along by the coasts H3027 of Arnon, H769 three H7969 hundred H3967 years? In Israel’s dwelling in Heshbon and in its towns, and in Aroer and in its towns, and in all the cities which are by the sides of Arnon three hundred years-and wherefore have ye not delivered them in that time?

Jephthah vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,

And Jephthah voweth a vow to Jehovah, and saith, ‘If Thou dost at all give the Bene-Ammon into my hand-

So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Yahweh delivered them into his hand.

Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.

When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me today, to fight against me?”

and I see that thou art not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah giveth them into my hand-and why have ye come up unto me this day to fight against me?’

The children of Israel again did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight; and Yahweh delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

for, behold, you shall conceive and give birth to a son. No razor shall come on his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb. He shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”

For, lo, thou shalt conceive, H2030 and bear H3205 (QalActPtc) a son; H1121 and no razor H4177 shall come H5927 (QalImpf) on his head: H7218 for the child H5288 shall be a Nazarite H5139 unto God H430 from the womb: H990 and he shall begin H2490 (HiphImpf) to deliver H3467 (HiphInf) Israel H3478 out of the hand H3027 of the Philistines. for, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.’

But his wife said to him, “If Yahweh were pleased to kill us, he wouldn’t have received a burnt offering and a meal offering at our hand, and he wouldn’t have shown us all these things, nor would he have told us such things as these at this time.”

But his wife H802 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, If H3863 the Lord H3068 were pleased H2654 (QalPerf) to kill H4191 (HiphInf) us, he would not have received H3947 (QalPerf) a burnt offering H5930 and a meat offering H4503 at our hands, H3027 neither would he have shewed H7200 (HiphPerf) us all these [things], nor would as at this time H6256 have told H8085 (HiphPerf) us [such things] as these. And his wife saith to him, ‘If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as at this time caused us to hear anything like this.’

Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat with his bare hands, but he didn’t tell his father or his mother what he had done.

And the Spirit H7307 of the Lord H3068 came mightily H6743 (QalImpf) upon him, and he rent H8156 (PielImpf) him as he would have rent H8156 (PielInf) a kid, H1423 and [he had] nothing H3972 in his hand: H3027 but he told H5046 (HiphPerf) not his father H1 or his mother H517 what he had done. and the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and he rendeth it as the rending of a kid, and there is nothing in his hand, and he hath not declared to his father and to his mother that which he hath done.

They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.”

And they say to him, ‘To bind thee we have come down-to give thee into the hand of the Philistines.’ And Samson saith to them, ‘Swear to me, lest ye fall upon me yourselves.’

They spoke to him, saying, “No, but we will bind you securely and deliver you into their hands; but surely we will not kill you.” They bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.

And they spake H559 (QalImpf) unto him, saying, H559 (QalInf) No; but we will bind H631 (QalImpf) thee fast, H631 (QalInf) and deliver H5414 (QalPerf) thee into their hand: H3027 but surely H4191 (HiphInf) we will not kill H4191 (HiphImpf) thee. And they bound H631 (QalImpf) him with two H8147 new H2319 cords, H5688 and brought him up H5927 (HiphImpf) from the rock. H5553

And they speak to him, saying, No, but we certainly bind thee, and have given thee into their hand, and we certainly do not put thee to death;’ and they bind him with two thick bands, new ones, and bring him up from the rock.

When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. Then Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burned with fire; and his bands dropped from off his hands.

[And] when he came H935 (QalPerf) unto Lehi, H3896 the Philistines H6430 shouted H7321 (HiphPerf) against H7125 (QalInf) him: and the Spirit H7307 of the Lord H3068 came mightily H6743 (QalImpf) upon him, and the cords H5688 that [were] upon his arms H2220 became as flax H6593 that was burnt H1197 (QalPerf) with fire, H784 and his bands H612 loosed H4549 (NiphImpf) from off his hands. He hath come unto Lehi-and the Philistines have shouted at meeting him-and the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and the thick bands which are on his arms are as flax which they burn with fire, and his bands are wasted from off his hands,

He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, put out his hand, took it, and struck a thousand men with it.

And he found H4672 (QalImpf) a new H2961 jawbone H3895 of an ass, H2543 and put forth H7971 (QalImpf) his hand, H3027 and took H3947 (QalImpf) it, and slew H5221 (HiphImpf) a thousand H505 men H376 therewith.

and he findeth a fresh jaw-bone of an ass, and putteth forth his hand and taketh it, and smiteth with it-a thousand men.

When he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath Lehi.°

Judges 15:17 “Ramath” means “hill” and “Lehi” means “jawbone”.

And it came to pass, when he had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of speaking, H1696 (PielInf) that he cast away H7993 (HiphImpf) the jawbone H3895 out of his hand, H3027 and called H7121 (QalImpf) that place H4725 Ramathlehi. H7437

And it cometh to pass when he finisheth speaking, that he casteth away the jaw-bone out of his hand, and calleth that place Ramath-Lehi;

He was very thirsty, and called on Yahweh and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die of thirst, and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”

And he was sore H3966 athirst, H6770 (QalImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) on the Lord, H3068 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Thou hast given H5414 (QalPerf) this great H1419 deliverance H8668 into the hand H3027 of thy servant: H5650 and now shall I die H4191 (QalImpf) for thirst, H6772 and fall H5307 (QalPerf) into the hand H3027 of the uncircumcised? H6189

and he thirsteth exceedingly, and calleth unto Jehovah, and saith, ‘Thou-Thou hast given by the hand of Thy servant this great salvation; and now, I die with thirst, and have fallen into the hand of the uncircumcised.’

When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand.

And when Delilah H1807 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that he had told H5046 (HiphPerf) her all his heart, H3820 she sent H7971 (QalImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) for the lords H5633 of the Philistines, H6430 saying, H559 (QalInf) Come up H5927 (QalImpv) this once, H6471 for he hath shewed H5046 (HiphPerf) me all his heart. H3820 Then the lords H5633 of the Philistines H6430 came up H5927 (QalPerf) unto her, and brought H5927 (HiphImpf) money H3701 in their hand. H3027

And Delilah seeth that he hath declared to her all his heart, and she sendeth and calleth for the princes of the Philistines, saying, ‘Come up this time, for he hath declared to me all his heart;’ and the princes of the Philistines have come up unto her, and bring up the money in their hand.

The lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, “Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.”

Then the lords H5633 of the Philistines H6430 gathered them together H622 (NiphPerf) for to offer H2076 (QalInf) a great H1419 sacrifice H2077 unto Dagon H1712 their god, H430 and to rejoice: H8057 for they said, H559 (QalImpf) Our god H430 hath delivered H5414 (QalPerf) Samson H8123 our enemy H341 (QalActPtc) into our hand. and the princes of the Philistines have been gathered together to sacrifice a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice; and they say, ‘Our god hath given into our hand Samson our enemy.’
