[1] In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the message was true, even a great warfare. He understood the message, and had understanding of the vision. [2] In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks. [3] I ate no pleasant food. No meat or wine came into my mouth. I didn’t anoint myself at all, until three whole weeks were fulfilled. [4] In the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel,§ [5] I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man clothed in linen, whose waist was adorned with pure gold of Uphaz. [6] His body also was like beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as flaming torches. His arms and his feet were like burnished bronze. The voice of his words was like the voice of a multitude. [7] I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me didn’t see the vision, but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves. [8] So I was left alone and saw this great vision. No strength remained in me; for my face grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength. [9] Yet I heard the voice of his words. When I heard the voice of his words, then I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face toward the ground. [10] Behold, a hand touched me, which set me on my knees and on the palms of my hands. [11] He said to me, “Daniel, you greatly beloved man, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have been sent to you, now.” When he had spoken this word to me, I stood trembling. [12] Then he said to me, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel; for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. I have come for your words’ sake. [13] But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but, behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me because I remained there with the kings of Persia. [14] Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision is yet for many days.” [15] When he had spoken these words to me, I set my face toward the ground and was mute. [16] Behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth, and spoke and said to him who stood before me, “My lord, by reason of the vision my sorrows have overtaken me, and I retain no strength. [17] For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? For as for me, immediately there remained no strength in me. There was no breath left in me.” [18] Then one like the appearance of a man touched me again, and he strengthened me. [19] He said, “Greatly beloved man, don’t be afraid. Peace be to you. Be strong. Yes, be strong.”When he spoke to me, I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” [20] Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Now I will return to fight with the prince of Persia. When I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. [21] But I will tell you that which is inscribed in the writing of truth. There is no one who holds with me against these but Michael your prince.

[1] In the thirdH7969 yearH8141 of CyrusH3566 kingH4428 of PersiaH6539 a thingH1697 was revealedH1540(NiphPerf) unto Daniel,H1840 whose nameH8034 was calledH7121(NiphPerf) Belteshazzar;H1095 and the thingH1697 [was] true,H571 but the time appointedH6635 [was] long:H1419 and he understoodH995(QalPerf) the thing,H1697 and had understandingH998 of the vision.H4758 [2] In those daysH3117 I DanielH1840 was mourningH56(HithPtc) threeH7969 fullH3117 weeks.H7620 [3] I ateH398(QalPerf) no pleasantH2532 bread,H3899 neither cameH935(QalPerf) fleshH1320 nor wineH3196 in my mouth,H6310 neither did I anointH5480(QalPerf) myself at all,H5480(QalInf) till threeH7969 wholeH3117 weeksH7620 were fulfilled.H4390(QalInf) [4] And in the fourH702 and twentiethH6242 dayH3117 of the firstH7223 month,H2320 as I was by the sideH3027 of the greatH1419 river,H5104 which [is] Hiddekel;H2313 [5] Then I lifted upH5375(QalImpf) mine eyes,H5869 and looked,H7200(QalImpf) and behold a certainH259 manH376 clothedH3847(QalPasPtc) in linen,H906 whose loinsH4975 [were] girdedH2296(QalPasPtc) with fine goldH3800 of Uphaz:H210 [6] His bodyH1472 also [was] like the beryl,H8658 and his faceH6440 as the appearanceH4758 of lightning,H1300 and his eyesH5869 as lampsH3940 of fire,H784 and his armsH2220 and his feetH4772 like in colourH5869 to polishedH7044 brass,H5178 and the voiceH6963 of his wordsH1697 like the voiceH6963 of a multitude.H1995 [7] And I DanielH1840 alone sawH7200(QalPerf) the vision:H4759 for the menH582 that were with me sawH7200(QalPerf) not the vision;H4759 butH61 a greatH1419 quakingH2731 fellH5307(QalPerf) upon them, so that they fledH1272(QalImpf) to hideH2244(NiphInf) themselves. [8] Therefore I was left alone,H7604(NiphPerf) and sawH7200(QalImpf) this greatH1419 vision,H4759 and there remainedH7604(NiphPerf) no strengthH3581 in me: for my comelinessH1935 was turnedH2015(NiphPerf) in me into corruption,H4889 and I retainedH6113(QalPerf) no strength.H3581 [9] Yet heardH8085(QalImpf) I the voiceH6963 of his words:H1697 and when I heardH8085(QalInf) the voiceH6963 of his words,H1697 then was I in a deep sleepH7290(NiphPtc) on my face,H6440 and my faceH6440 toward the ground.H776 [10] And, behold, an handH3027 touchedH5060(QalPerf) me, which setH5128(HiphImpf) me upon my kneesH1290 and [upon] the palmsH3709 of my hands.H3027 [11] And he saidH559(QalImpf) unto me, O Daniel,H1840 a manH376 greatly beloved,H2532 understandH995(HiphImpv) the wordsH1697 that I speakH1696(QalActPtc) unto thee, and standH5975(QalImpv) upright:H5977 for unto thee am I now sent.H7971(PualPerf) And when he had spokenH1696(PielInf) this wordH1697 unto me, I stoodH5975(QalPerf) trembling.H7460(HiphPtc) [12] Then saidH559(QalImpf) he unto me, FearH3372(QalImpf) not, Daniel:H1840 for from the firstH7223 dayH3117 that thou didst setH5414(QalPerf) thine heartH3820 to understand,H995(HiphInf) and to chastenH6031(HithInf) thyself beforeH6440 thy God,H430 thy wordsH1697 were heard,H8085(NiphPerf) and I am comeH935(QalPerf) for thy words.H1697 [13] But the princeH8269 of the kingdomH4438 of PersiaH6539 withstoodH5975(QalActPtc) me oneH259 and twentyH6242 days:H3117 but, lo, Michael,H4317 oneH259 of the chiefH7223 princes,H8269 cameH935(QalPerf) to helpH5826(QalInf) me; and I remainedH3498(NiphPerf) there withH681 the kingsH4428 of Persia.H6539 [14] Now I am comeH935(QalPerf) to make thee understandH995(HiphInf) what shall befallH7136(QalImpf) thy peopleH5971 in the latterH319 days:H3117 for yet the visionH2377 [is] for [many] days.H3117 [15] And when he had spokenH1696(PielInf) such wordsH1697 unto me, I setH5414(QalPerf) my faceH6440 toward the ground,H776 and I became dumb.H481(NiphPerf) [16] And, behold, [one] like the similitudeH1823 of the sonsH1121 of menH120 touchedH5060(QalActPtc) my lips:H8193 then I openedH6605(QalImpf) my mouth,H6310 and spake,H1696(PielImpf) and saidH559(QalImpf) unto him that stoodH5975(QalActPtc) before me, O my lord,H113 by the visionH4759 my sorrowsH6735 are turnedH2015(NiphPerf) upon me, and I have retainedH6113(QalPerf) no strength.H3581 [17] For howH1963 canH3201(QalImpf) the servantH5650 of this my lordH113 talkH1696(PielInf) with this my lord?H113 for as for me, straightwayH6258 there remainedH5975(QalImpf) no strengthH3581 in me, neither is there breathH5397 leftH7604(NiphPerf) in me. [18] Then there came againH3254(HiphImpf) and touchedH5060(QalImpf) me [one] like the appearanceH4758 of a man,H120 and he strengthenedH2388(PielImpf) me, [19] And said,H559(QalImpf) O manH376 greatly beloved,H2532 fearH3372(QalImpf) not: peaceH7965 [be] unto thee, be strong,H2388(QalImpv) yea, be strong.H2388(QalImpv) And when he had spokenH1696(PielInf) unto me, I was strengthened,H2388(HithPerf) and said,H559(QalImpf) Let my lordH113 speak;H1696(PielImpf) for thou hast strengthenedH2388(PielPerf) me. [20] Then saidH559(QalImpf) he, KnowestH3045(QalPerf) thou wherefore I comeH935(QalPerf) unto thee? and now will I returnH7725(QalImpf) to fightH3898(NiphInf) with the princeH8269 of Persia:H6539 and when I am gone forth,H3318(QalActPtc) lo, the princeH8269 of GreciaH3120 shall come.H935(QalPerf) [21] ButH61 I will shewH5046(HiphImpf) thee that which is notedH7559(QalPasPtc) in the scriptureH3791 of truth:H571 and [there is] noneH259 that holdethH2388(HithPtc) with me in these things, but MichaelH4317 your prince.H8269
