[1] How the city sits solitary,
that was full of people!
She has become as a widow,
who was great among the nations!
She who was a princess among the provinces
has become a slave!
[2] She weeps bitterly in the night.
Her tears are on her cheeks.
Among all her lovers
she has no one to comfort her.
All her friends have dealt treacherously with her.
They have become her enemies.
[3] Judah has gone into captivity because of affliction
and because of great servitude.
She dwells among the nations.
She finds no rest.
All her persecutors overtook her in her distress.
[4] The roads to Zion mourn,
because no one comes to the solemn assembly.
All her gates are desolate.
Her priests sigh.
Her virgins are afflicted,
and she herself is in bitterness.
[5] Her adversaries have become the head.
Her enemies prosper;
for Yahweh§ has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions.
Her young children have gone into captivity before the adversary.
[6] All majesty has departed from the daughter of Zion.
Her princes have become like deer that find no pasture.
They have gone without strength before the pursuer.
[7] Jerusalem remembers in the days of her affliction and of her miseries
all her pleasant things that were from the days of old;
when her people fell into the hand of the adversary,
and no one helped her.
The adversaries saw her.
They mocked at her desolations.
[8] Jerusalem has grievously sinned.
Therefore she has become unclean.
All who honored her despise her,
because they have seen her nakedness.
Yes, she sighs and turns backward.
[9] Her filthiness was in her skirts.
She didn’t remember her latter end.
Therefore she has come down astoundingly.
She has no comforter.
“See, Yahweh, my affliction;
for the enemy has magnified himself.”
[10] The adversary has spread out his hand on all her pleasant things;
for she has seen that the nations have entered into her sanctuary,
concerning whom you commanded that they should not enter into your assembly.
[11] All her people sigh.
They seek bread.
They have given their pleasant things for food to refresh their soul.
“Look, Yahweh, and see,
for I have become despised.”
[12] “Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by?
Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow,
which is brought on me,
with which Yahweh has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
[13] “From on high has he sent fire into my bones,
and it prevails against them.
He has spread a net for my feet.
He has turned me back.
He has made me desolate and I faint all day long.
[14] “The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand.
They are knit together.
They have come up on my neck.
He made my strength fail.
The Lord§ has delivered me into their hands,
against whom I am not able to stand.
[15] “The Lord has set at nothing all my mighty men within me.
He has called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men.
The Lord has trodden the virgin daughter of Judah as in a wine press.
[16] “For these things I weep.
My eye, my eye runs down with water,
because the comforter who should refresh my soul is far from me.
My children are desolate,
because the enemy has prevailed.”
[17] Zion spreads out her hands.
There is no one to comfort her.
Yahweh has commanded concerning Jacob,
that those who are around him should be his adversaries.
Jerusalem is among them as an unclean thing.
[18] “Yahweh is righteous,
for I have rebelled against his commandment.
Please hear all you peoples,
and see my sorrow.
My virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.
[19] “I called for my lovers,
but they deceived me.
My priests and my elders gave up the spirit in the city,
while they sought food for themselves to refresh their souls.
[20] “Look, Yahweh; for I am in distress.
My heart is troubled.
My heart turns over within me,
for I have grievously rebelled.
Abroad, the sword bereaves.
At home, it is like death.
[21] “They have heard that I sigh.
There is no one to comfort me.
All my enemies have heard of my trouble.
They are glad that you have done it.
You will bring the day that you have proclaimed,
and they will be like me.
[22] “Let all their wickedness come before you.
Do to them as you have done to me for all my transgressions.
For my sighs are many,
and my heart is faint.

How is she become tributary! H4522

They are become her enemies. H341 (QalActPtc)

[3] Judah H3063 is gone into captivity H1540 (QalPerf) because of affliction, H6040

She findeth H4672 (QalPerf) no rest: H4494
All her persecutors H7291 (QalActPtc) overtook H5381 (HiphPerf) her
Between the straits. H4712

[4] The ways H1870 of Zion H6726 do mourn, H57
Because none come H935 (QalActPtc) to the solemn feasts: H4150
All her gates H8179 are desolate: H8074 (QalActPtc)
Her priests H3548 sigh, H584 (NiphPtc)
Her virgins H1330 are afflicted, H3013 (NiphPtc)
And she is in bitterness. H4843 (QalPerf)
[5] Her adversaries H6862 are the chief, H7218
Her enemies H341 (QalActPtc) prosper; H7951 (QalPerf)
For the Lord H3068 hath afflicted H3013 (HiphPerf) her
For the multitude H7230
of her transgressions: H6588
Her children H5768 are gone H1980 (QalPerf)
Into captivity H7628 before H6440 the enemy. H6862
[6] And from the daughter H1323 of Zion H6726
All her beauty H1926 is departed: H3318 (QalImpf)
Her princes H8269 are become like harts H354
That find H4672 (QalPerf) no pasture, H4829
And they are gone H3212 (QalImpf) without strength H3581
Before H6440 the pursuer. H7291 (QalActPtc)
[7] Jerusalem H3389 remembered H2142 (QalPerf)
In the days H3117 of her affliction H6040 and of her miseries H4788
All her pleasant§ things H4262
That she had in the days H3117 of old, H6924
When her people H5971 fell H5307 (QalInf) into the hand H3027 of the enemy, H6862
And none did help H5826 (QalActPtc) her:
The adversaries H6862
saw H7200 (QalPerf) her,
And did mock H7832 (QalPerf)
at her sabbaths. H4868
[8] Jerusalem H3389 hath grievously H2399 sinned; H2398 (QalPerf)
Therefore she is removed: H5206§
All that honoured H3513 (PielPtc) her despise H2107 (HiphPerf) her,
Because they have seen H7200 (QalPerf)
her nakedness: H6172
Yea, she sigheth, H584 (NiphPerf)
And turneth H7725 (QalImpf) backward. H268
[9] Her filthiness H2932 is in her skirts; H7757
She remembereth H2142 (QalPerf) not her last end; H319
Therefore she came down H3381 (QalImpf) wonderfully: H6382
She had no comforter. H5162 (PielPtc)
O Lord, H3068 behold H7200 (QalImpv) my affliction: H6040
For the enemy H341 (QalActPtc) hath magnified H1431 (HiphPerf) himself.
[10] The adversary H6862 hath spread out H6566 (QalPerf) his hand H3027
Upon all her pleasant§ things: H4261
For she hath seen H7200 (QalPerf) that the heathen H1471
Entered H935 (QalPerf) into her sanctuary, H4720
Whom thou didst command H6680 (PielPerf)
That they should not enter H935 (QalImpf) into thy congregation. H6951
[11] All her people H5971 sigh, H584 (NiphPtc)
They seek H1245 (PielPtc) bread; H3899
They have given H5414 (QalPerf) their pleasant things H4261 (Qere)
For meat H400 to relieve H7725 (HiphInf) the soul: H5315§
See, H7200 (QalImpv) O Lord, H3068 and consider; H5027 (HiphImpv)
For I am become vile. H2151 (QalActPtc)
[12] Is it nothing to you,§
All ye that pass H5674 (QalActPtc)
by? H1870§
Behold, H5027 (HiphImpv) and see H7200 (QalImpv) if there be H3426 any sorrow H4341
Like unto my sorrow, H4341 which is done H5953 (PoalPerf) unto me,
Wherewith the Lord H3068
hath afflicted H3013 (HiphPerf)
Me in the day H3117 of his fierce H2740 anger. H639
[13] From above H4791 hath he sent H7971 (QalPerf) fire H784 into my bones, H6106
And it prevaileth H7287 (QalImpf) against them:
He hath spread H6566 (QalPerf)
a net H7568 for my feet, H7272
He hath turned H7725 (HiphPerf) me back: H268
He hath made H5414 (QalPerf) me desolate H8074 (QalActPtc)
And faint H1739 all the day. H3117
[14] The yoke H5923 of my transgressions H6588 is bound H8244 (NiphPerf)
By his hand: H3027
They are wreathed, H8276 (HithImpf) and come up H5927 (QalPerf) upon my neck: H6677
He hath made my strength H3581 to fall, H3782 (HiphPerf)
The Lord H136 hath delivered H5414 (QalPerf) me into their hands, H3027
From whom I am not able H3201 (QalImpf) to rise up. H6965 (QalInf)
[15] The Lord H136 hath trodden under foot H5541 (PielPerf) all my mighty H47 men
In the midst H7130
of me:
He hath called H7121 (QalPerf)
an assembly H4150 against me
To crush H7665 (QalInf)
my young men: H970
The Lord H136 hath trodden H1869 (QalPerf) the virgin, H1330
The daughter H1323 of Judah, H3063 as in a winepress. H1660
[16] For these things I weep; H1058 (QalActPtc)
Mine eye, H5869 mine eye H5869 runneth down H3381 (QalActPtc) with water, H4325
Because the comforter H5162 (PielPtc) that should relieve H7725 (HiphPtc)§ my
Soul H5315
is far H7368 (QalPerf) from me:
My children H1121
are desolate, H8074 (QalActPtc)
Because the enemy H341 (QalActPtc) prevailed. H1396 (QalPerf)
[17] Zion H6726 spreadeth forth H6566 (PielPerf) her hands, H3027
And there is none to comfort H5162 (PielPtc) her:
The Lord H3068
hath commanded H6680 (PielPerf) concerning Jacob, H3290
That his adversaries H6862 should be round about H5439 him:
Jerusalem H3389
is as
A menstruous woman H5079
among them.
[18] The Lord H3068 is righteous; H6662
For I have rebelled H4784 (QalPerf) against his commandment: H6310§
Hear, H8085 (QalImpv) I pray you, all people, H5971
And behold H7200 (QalImpv) my sorrow: H4341
My virgins H1330 and my young men H970
Are gone H1980 (QalPerf) into captivity. H7628
[19] I called H7121 (QalPerf) for my lovers, H157 (PielPtc)
But they deceived H7411 (PielPerf) me:
My priests H3548
and mine elders H2205
Gave up the ghost H1478 (QalPerf) in the city, H5892
While they sought H1245 (PielPerf) their meat H400
To relieve H7725 (HiphImpf) their souls. H5315
[20] Behold, H7200 (QalImpv) O Lord; H3068 for I am in distress: H6887 (QalPerf)
My bowels H4578 are troubled; H2560 (Poal2Perf)
Mine heart H3820 is turned H2015 (NiphPerf) within H7130 me;
For I have grievously H4784 (QalInf)
rebelled: H4784 (QalPerf)
Abroad H2351 the sword H2719 bereaveth, H7921 (PielPerf)
At home H1004 there is as death. H4194
[21] They have heard H8085 (QalPerf) that I sigh: H584 (NiphPtc)
There is none to comfort H5162 (PielPtc) me:
All mine enemies H341 (QalActPtc)
have heard H8085 (QalPerf) of my trouble; H7451
They are glad H7797 (QalPerf) that thou hast done H6213 (QalPerf) it:
Thou wilt bring H935 (HiphPerf)
the day H3117 that thou hast called,§ H7121 (QalPerf)
And they shall be like H3644 unto me.
[22] Let all their wickedness H7451 come H935 (QalImpf) before H6440 thee;
And do H5953 (PoelImpv)
unto them,
As thou hast done H5953 (PoelPerf)
unto me
For all my transgressions: H6588

For my sighs H585 are many, H7227
And my heart H3820 is faint. H1742
