The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.

And the chiefs of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, station themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen drawing sword.

The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night.

And the Levite, H3881 H376 the husband H376 of the woman H802 that was slain, H7523 (NiphPtc) answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) I came H935 (QalPerf) into Gibeah H1390 that [belongeth] to Benjamin, H1144 I and my concubine, H6370 to lodge. H3885 (QalInf)

And the man, the Levite, husband of the woman who hath been murdered, answereth and saith, ‘Into Gibeah (which is to Benjamin) I have come, I and my concubine, to lodge;

All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.

And all the people H5971 arose H6965 (QalImpf) as one H259 man, H376 saying, H559 (QalInf) We will not any H376 [of us] go H3212 (QalImpf) to his tent, H168 neither will we any H376 [of us] turn H5493 (QalImpf) into his house. H1004

And all the people rise as one man, saying, ‘None of us doth go to his tent, and none of us doth turn aside to his house;

and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that the men of Gibeah have done in Israel.”

And we will take H3947 (QalPerf) ten H6235 men H582 of an hundred H3967 throughout all the tribes H7626 of Israel, H3478 and an hundred H3967 of a thousand, H505 and a thousand H505 out of ten thousand, H7233 to fetch H3947 (QalInf) victual H6720 for the people, H5971 that they may do, H6213 (QalInf) when they come H935 (QalInf) to Gibeah H1387 of Benjamin, H1144 according to all the folly H5039 that they have wrought H6213 (QalPerf) in Israel. H3478

and we have taken ten men of a hundred, of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of a myriad, to receive provision for the people, to do, at their coming to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly which it hath done in Israel.’

So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

So all the men H376 of Israel H3478 were gathered H622 (NiphImpf) against the city, H5892 knit together H2270 as one H259 man. H376

And every man of Israel is gathered unto the city, as one man-companions.

The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that has happened among you?

And the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 sent H7971 (QalImpf) men H582 through all the tribe H7626 of Benjamin, H1144 saying, H559 (QalInf) What wickedness H7451 [is] this that is done H1961 (NiphPerf) among you?

And the tribes of Israel send men among all the tribes of Benjamin, saying, ‘What is this evil which hath been among you?

Now therefore deliver up the men, the wicked fellows who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.

Now therefore deliver H5414 (QalImpv) [us] the men, H582 the children H1121 of Belial, H1100 which [are] in Gibeah, H1390 that we may put them to death, H4191 (HiphImpf) and put away H1197 (PielImpf) evil H7451 from Israel. H3478 But the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 would H14 (QalPerf) not hearken H8085 (QalInf) to the voice H6963 of their brethren H251 the children H1121 of Israel: H3478

And now, give up the men-sons of worthlessness-which are in Gibeah, and we put them to death, and we put away evil from Israel.’ And the sons of Benjamin have not been willing to hearken to the voice of their brethren, the sons of Israel;

The children of Benjamin were counted on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, in addition to the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were counted seven hundred chosen men.

And the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 were numbered H6485 (HithImpf) at that time H3117 out of the cities H5892 twenty H6242 and six H8337 thousand H505 men H376 that drew H8025 (QalActPtc) sword, H2719 beside the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Gibeah, H1390 which were numbered H6485 (HithPerf) seven H7651 hundred H3967 chosen H977 (QalPasPtc) men. H376

And the sons of Benjamin number themselves on that day; out of the cities are twenty and six thousand men drawing sword, apart from the inhabitants of Gibeah, who numbered themselves, seven hundred chosen men;

Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed. Every one of them could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.

Among all this people H5971 [there were] seven H7651 hundred H3967 chosen H977 (QalPasPtc) men H376 lefthanded; H334 H3027 H3225 every one could sling H7049 (QalActPtc) stones H68 at an hair H8185 [breadth], and not miss. H2398 (HiphImpf)

among all this people are seven hundred chosen men, bound of their right hand, each of these slinging with a stone at the hair, and he doth not err.

The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were counted four hundred thousand men who drew sword. All these were men of war.

And the men H376 of Israel, H3478 beside Benjamin, H1144 were numbered H6485 (HithPerf) four H702 hundred H3967 thousand H505 men H376 that drew H8025 (QalActPtc) sword: H2719 all these [were] men H376 of war. H4421

And the men of Israel numbered themselves, apart from Benjamin, four hundred thousand men, drawing sword, each of these a man of war.

The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.

And the men H376 of Israel H3478 went out H3318 (QalImpf) to battle H4421 against Benjamin; H1144 and the men H376 of Israel H3478 put themselves in array H6186 (QalImpf) to fight H4421 against them at Gibeah. H1390

and the men of Israel go out to battle with Benjamin, and the men of Israel set themselves in array with them, for battle against Gibeah,

The children of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and on that day destroyed twenty-two thousand of the Israelite men down to the ground.

And the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 came forth H3318 (QalImpf) out of Gibeah, H1390 and destroyed down H7843 (HiphImpf) to the ground H776 of the Israelites H3478 that day H3117 twenty H6242 and two H8147 thousand H505 men. H376

and the sons of Benjamin come out from Gibeah, and destroy in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men-to the earth.

The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.

And the people H5971 the men H376 of Israel H3478 encouraged H2388 (HithImpf) themselves, and set their battle H4421 again H3254 (HiphImpf) in array H6186 (QalInf) in the place H4725 where they put themselves in array H6186 (QalPerf) the first H7223 day. H3117

And the people, the men of Israel, strengthen themselves, and add to set the battle in array in the place where they arranged themselves on the first day.

Benjamin went out against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men. All these drew the sword.

And Benjamin H1144 went forth H3318 (QalImpf) against H7125 (QalInf) them out of Gibeah H1390 the second H8145 day, H3117 and destroyed down H7843 (HiphImpf) to the ground H776 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 again eighteen H8083 H6240 thousand H505 men; H376 all these drew H8025 (QalActPtc) the sword. and Benjamin cometh out to meet them from Gibeah on the second day, and destroy among the sons of Israel again eighteen thousand men-to the earth; all these are drawing sword.

The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

And the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 went out H3318 (QalImpf) against H7125 (QalInf) the people, H5971 [and] were drawn away H5423 (HophPerf) from the city; H5892 and they began H2490 (HiphImpf) to smite H5221 (HiphInf) of the people, H5971 [and] kill, H2491 as at other times, H6471 in the highways, H4546 of which one H259 goeth up H5927 (QalActPtc) to the house H1004 of God, H430 (QK) H1008 and the other H259 to Gibeah H1390 in the field, H7704 about thirty H7970 men H376 of Israel. H3478

And the sons of Benjamin come out to meet the people; they have been drawn away out of the city, and begin to smite some of the people-wounded as time by time, in the highways (of which one is going up to Beth-El, and the other to Gibeah in the field), are about thirty men of Israel.

All the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar. Then the ambushers of Israel broke out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.

And all the men H376 of Israel H3478 rose up H6965 (QalPerf) out of their place, H4725 and put themselves in array H6186 (QalImpf) at Baaltamar: H1193 and the liers in wait H693 (QalActPtc) of Israel H3478 came forth H1518 (HiphPtc) out of their places, H4725 [even] out of the meadows H4629 of Gibeah. H1387

And all the men of Israel have risen from their place, and arrange themselves at Baal-Tamar, and the ambush of Israel is coming forth out of its place, out of the meadow of Gibeah.

Ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel came over against Gibeah, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that disaster was close to them.

And there came H935 (QalImpf) against H5048 Gibeah H1390 ten H6235 thousand H505 chosen H977 (QalPasPtc) men H376 out of all Israel, H3478 and the battle H4421 was sore: H3513 (QalPerf) but they knew H3045 (QalPerf) not that evil H7451 [was] near H5060 (QalActPtc) them.

And they come in over against Gibeah-ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel-and the battle is grievous, and they have not known that the evil is striking against them.

Yahweh struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men. All these drew the sword.

And the Lord H3068 smote H5062 (QalImpf) Benjamin H1144 before H6440 Israel: H3478 and the children H1121 of Israel H3478 destroyed H7843 (HiphImpf) of the Benjamites H1145 that day H3117 twenty H6242 and five H2568 thousand H505 and an hundred H3967 men: H376 all these drew H8025 (QalActPtc) the sword. H2719

And Jehovah smiteth Benjamin before Israel, and the sons of Israel destroy in Benjamin, on that day, twenty and five thousand, and a hundred men; all these are drawing sword.

So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel yielded to Benjamin because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.

So the children H1121 of Benjamin H1144 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that they were smitten: H5062 (NiphPerf) for the men H376 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 (QalImpf) place H4725 to the Benjamites, H1145 because they trusted H982 (QalPerf) unto the liers in wait H693 (QalActPtc) which they had set H7760 (QalPerf) beside Gibeah. H1390

And the sons of Benjamin see that they have been smitten-and the men of Israel give place to Benjamin, for they have trusted unto the ambush which they had set against Gibeah,

Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.

Now there was an appointed sign H4150 between the men H376 of Israel H3478 and H5973 the liers in wait, H693 (QalActPtc) that they should make a great H7235 (HiphImpv) flame H4864 with smoke H6227 rise up H5927 (HiphInf) out of the city. H5892

And there was the appointed sign to the men of Israel with the ambush-their causing to go up a great volume of smoke from the city.

The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”

And when the men H376 of Israel H3478 retired H2015 (QalImpf) in the battle, H4421 Benjamin H1144 began H2490 (HiphPerf) to smite H5221 (HiphInf) [and] kill H2491 of the men H376 of Israel H3478 about thirty H7970 persons: H376 for they said, H559 (QalPerf) Surely H5062 (NiphInf) they are smitten down H5062 (NiphPtc) before H6440 us, as [in] the first H7223 battle. H4421

And the men of Israel turn in battle, and Benjamin hath begun to smite the wounded among the men of Israel, about thirty men, for they said, ‘Surely they are utterly smitten before us, as at the first battle;

The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that disaster had come on them.

And when the men H376 of Israel H3478 turned again, H2015 (QalPerf) the men H376 of Benjamin H1144 were amazed: H926 (NiphImpf) for they saw H7200 (QalPerf) that evil H7451 was come H5060 (QalPerf) upon them.

And the men of Israel have turned, and the men of Benjamin are troubled, for they have seen that the evil hath stricken against them-

Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness, but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the middle of it.

Therefore they turned H6437 (QalImpf) [their backs] before H6440 the men H376 of Israel H3478 unto the way H1870 of the wilderness; H4057 but the battle H4421 overtook H1692 (HiphPerf) them; and them which [came] out of the cities H5892 they destroyed H7843 (HiphPtc) in the midst H8432 of them.

and they turn before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness, and the battle hath followed them; and those who are from the city are destroying them in their midst;

Eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor.

And there fell H5307 (QalImpf) of Benjamin H1144 eighteen H8083 H6240 thousand H505 men; H376 all these [were] men H582 of valour. H2428

And there fall of Benjamin eighteen thousand men-the whole of these are men of valour;

They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. They gleaned five thousand men of them in the highways, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck two thousand men of them.

And they turned H6437 (QalImpf) and fled H5127 (QalImpf) toward the wilderness H4057 unto the rock H5553 of Rimmon: H7417 and they gleaned H5953 (PoelImpf) of them in the highways H4546 five H2568 thousand H505 men; H376 and pursued H1692 (HiphImpf) hard after H310 them unto Gidom, H1440 and slew H5221 (HiphImpf) two thousand H505 men H376 of them.

and they turn and flee toward the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon; and they glean of them in the highways five thousand men, and follow after them unto Gidom, and smite of them two thousand men.

So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword. All these were men of valor.

So that all which fell H5307 (QalActPtc) that day H3117 of Benjamin H1144 were twenty H6242 and five H2568 thousand H505 men H376 that drew H8025 (QalActPtc) the sword; H2719 all these [were] men H582 of valour. H2428

And all those falling of Benjamin are twenty and five thousand men drawing sword, on that day-the whole of these are men of valour;

But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.

But six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 turned H6437 (QalImpf) and fled H5127 (QalImpf) to the wilderness H4057 unto the rock H5553 Rimmon, H7417 and abode H3427 (QalImpf) in the rock H5553 Rimmon H7417 four H702 months. H2320

and there turn and flee into the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon six hundred men, and they dwell in the rock Rimmon four months.

The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword—including the entire city, the livestock, and all that they found. Moreover they set all the cities which they found on fire.

And the men H376 of Israel H3478 turned again H7725 (QalPerf) upon the children H1121 of Benjamin, H1144 and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 as well the men H4974 of [every] city, H5892 as H5704 the beast, H929 and all that came to hand: H4672 (NiphPtc) also they set H7971 (PielPerf) on fire H784 all the cities H5892 that they came to. H4672 (NiphPtc)

And the men of Israel have turned back unto the sons of Benjamin, and smite them by the mouth of the sword out of the city,-men unto cattle, unto all that is found; also all the cities which are found they have sent into fire.

Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, “None of us will give his daughter to Benjamin as a wife.”

Now the men H376 of Israel H3478 had sworn H7650 (NiphPerf) in Mizpeh, H4709 saying, H559 (QalInf) There shall not any H376 of us give H5414 (QalImpf) his daughter H1323 unto Benjamin H1144 to wife. H802

And the men of Israel have sworn in Mizpeh, saying, ‘None of us doth give his daughter to Benjamin for a wife.’

They said, “What one is there of the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah?” Behold, no one came from Jabesh Gilead to the camp to the assembly.

And they said, H559 (QalImpf) What one H259 [is there] of the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 that came not up H5927 (QalPerf) to Mizpeh H4709 to the Lord? H3068 And, behold, there came H935 (QalPerf) none H376 to the camp H4264 from Jabeshgilead H3003 H1568 to the assembly. H6951

And they say, ‘Who is that one out of the tribes of Israel who hath not come up unto Jehovah to Mizpeh?’ and lo, none hath come in unto the camp from Jabesh-Gilead-unto the assembly.

For when the people were counted, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead there.

For the people H5971 were numbered, H6485 (HithImpf) and, behold, [there were] none H376 of the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jabeshgilead H3003 H1568 there.

And the people numbered themselves, and lo, there is not there a man of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead.

The congregation sent twelve thousand of the most valiant men there, and commanded them, saying, “Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.

And the congregation H5712 sent H7971 (QalImpf) thither twelve H8147 H6240 thousand H505 men H376 of the valiantest, H1121 H2428 and commanded H6680 (PielImpf) them, saying, H559 (QalInf) Go H3212 (QalImpv) and smite H5221 (HiphPerf) the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jabeshgilead H3003 H1568 with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 with the women H802 and the children. H2945

And the company send there twelve thousand men of the sons of valour, and command them, saying, ‘Go-and ye have smitten the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead by the mouth of the sword, even the women and the infants.

They found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

And they found H4672 (QalImpf) among the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jabeshgilead H3003 H1568 four H702 hundred H3967 young H5291 virgins, H1330 that had known H3045 (QalPerf) no man H376 by lying H4904 with any male: H2145 and they brought H935 (HiphImpf) them unto the camp H4264 to Shiloh, H7887 which [is] in the land H776 of Canaan. And they find out of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women, virgins, who have not known man by the lying of a male, and they bring them in unto the camp at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

and see, and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards, and each man catch his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

And see, H7200 (QalPerf) and, behold, if the daughters H1323 of Shiloh H7887 come out H3318 (QalImpf) to dance H2342 (QalInf) in dances, H4246 then come ye out H3318 (QalPerf) of the vineyards, H3754 and catch H2414 (QalPerf) you every man H376 his wife H802 of the daughters H1323 of Shiloh, H7887 and go H1980 (QalPerf) to the land H776 of Benjamin. and have seen, and lo, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances-then ye have gone out from the vineyards, and caught for you each his wife out of the daughters of Shiloh, and gone to the land of Benjamin;

It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, ‘Grant them graciously to us, because we didn’t take for each man his wife in battle, neither did you give them to them; otherwise you would now be guilty.’ ”

And it shall be, when their fathers H1 or their brethren H251 come H935 (QalImpf) unto us to complain, H7378 (QalInf) that we will say H559 (QalPerf) unto them, Be favourable H2603 (QalImpv) unto them for our sakes: because we reserved H3947 (QalPerf) not to each man H376 his wife H802 in the war: H4421 for ye did not give H5414 (QalPerf) unto them at this time, H6256 [that] ye should be guilty. H816 (QalImpf)

and it hath been, when their fathers or their brethren come in to plead unto us, that we have said unto them, Favour us by them, for we have not taken to each his wife in battle, for ye-ye have not given to them at this time that ye are guilty.’

The children of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they each went out from there to his own inheritance.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 departed H1980 (HithImpf) thence at that time, H6256 every man H376 to his tribe H7626 and to his family, H4940 and they went out H3318 (QalImpf) from thence every man H376 to his inheritance. H5159

And the sons of Israel go up and down thence at that time, each to his tribe, and to his family; and they go out thence each to his inheritance.

In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes.

In those days H3117 [there was] no king H4428 in Israel: H3478 every man H376 did H6213 (QalImpf) [that which was] right H3477 in his own eyes. H5869

In those days there is no king in Israel; each doth that which is right in his own eyes.

In the days when the judges judged, there was a famine in the land. A certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to live in the country of Moab with his wife and his two sons.

Now it came to pass in the days H3117 when the judges H8199 (QalActPtc) ruled, H8199 (QalInf) that there was a famine H7458 in the land. H776 And a certain man H376 of Bethlehemjudah H1035 H3063 went H3212 (QalImpf) to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) in the country H7704 of Moab, H4124 he, and his wife, H802 and his two H8147 sons. H1121

And it cometh to pass, in the days of the judging of the judges, that there is a famine in the land, and there goeth a man from Beth-Lehem-Judah to sojourn in the fields of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi. The names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah. They came into the country of Moab and lived there.

And the name H8034 of the man H376 [was] Elimelech, H458 and the name H8034 of his wife H802 Naomi, H5281 and the name H8034 of his two H8147 sons H1121 Mahlon H4248 and Chilion, H3630 Ephrathites H673 of Bethlehemjudah. H1035 H3063 And they came H935 (QalImpf) into the country H7704 of Moab, H4124 and continued there.

And the name of the man is Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites from Beth-Lehem-Judah; and they come into the fields of Moab, and are there.

Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left with her two sons.

And Elimelech H458 Naomi’s H5281 husband H376 died; H4191 (QalImpf) and she was left, H7604 (NiphImpf) and her two H8147 sons. H1121

And Elimelech husband of Naomi dieth, and she is left, she and her two sons;

Mahlon and Chilion both died, and the woman was bereaved of her two children and of her husband.

And Mahlon H4248 and Chilion H3630 died H4191 (QalImpf) also both H8147 of them; and the woman H802 was left H7604 (NiphImpf) of her two H8147 sons H3206 and her husband. H376

And they die also, both of them-Mahlon and Chilion-and the woman is left of her two children and of her husband.

May Yahweh grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices, and wept.

Jehovah doth grant to you, and find ye rest each in the house of her husband;’ and she kisseth them, and they lift up their voice and weep.

Naomi said, “Go back, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

And Naomi saith, ‘Turn back, my daughters; why do ye go with me? are there yet to me sons in my bowels that they have been to you for husbands?

Go back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, ‘I have hope,’ if I should even have a husband tonight, and should also bear sons,

Turn back, my daughters, go, for I am too aged to be to a husband; though I had said, There is for me hope, also, I have been to-night to a husband, and also I have borne sons:

would you then wait until they were grown? Would you then refrain from having husbands? No, my daughters, for it grieves me seriously for your sakes, for Yahweh’s hand has gone out against me.”

Would ye tarry H7663 (PielImpf) for them H3860 till they were grown? H1431 (QalImpf) would ye stay H5702 (NiphImpf) for them H3860 from having husbands? for them do ye wait till that they grow up? for them do ye shut yourselves up, not to be to a husband? nay, my daughters, for more bitter to me than to you, for the hand of Jehovah hath gone out against me.’

Naomi had a relative of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz.

And Naomi H5281 had a kinsman H4129 (Qere) H3045 (PualPtc) of her husband’s, H376 a mighty H1368 man H376 of wealth, H2428 of the family H4940 of Elimelech; H458 and his name H8034 [was] Boaz. H1162

And Naomi hath an acquaintance of her husband’s, a man mighty in wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name is Boaz.

Boaz answered her, “I have been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father, your mother, and the land of your birth, and have come to a people that you didn’t know before.

And Boaz answereth and saith to her, ‘It hath thoroughly been declared to me all that thou hast done with thy mother-in-law, after the death of thy husband, and thou dost leave thy father, and thy mother, and the land of thy birth, and dost come in unto a people which thou hast not known heretofore.

Her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.” She told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”

And her mother in law H2545 said H559 (QalImpf) unto her, Where hast thou gleaned H3950 (PielPerf) to day? H3117 and where H375 wroughtest H6213 (QalPerf) thou? blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) be he that did take knowledge H5234 (HiphPtc) of thee. And her mother-in-law saith to her, ‘Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where hast thou wrought? may he who is discerning thee be blessed.’ And she declareth to her mother-in-law with whom she hath wrought, and saith, ‘The name of the man with whom I have wrought to-day is Boaz.’

Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by Yahweh, who has not abandoned his kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her, “The man is a close relative to us, one of our near kinsmen.”

And Naomi H5281 said H559 (QalImpf) unto her daughter in law, H3618 Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] he of the Lord, H3068 who hath not left off H5800 (QalPerf) his kindness H2617 to the living H2416 and to the dead. And Naomi saith to her daughter-in-law, ‘Blessed is he of Jehovah who hath not forsaken His kindness with the living and with the dead;’ and Naomi saith to her, ‘The man is a relation of ours; he is of our redeemers.’

Therefore wash yourself, anoint yourself, get dressed, and go down to the threshing floor; but don’t make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.
