και τοις αλλογενεσι τοις προσκειμενοις κυριω δουλευειν αυτω και αγαπαν το ονομα κυριου του ειναι αυτω εις δουλους και δουλας και παντας τους φυλασσομενους τα σαββατα μου μη βεβηλουν και αντεχομενους της διαθηκης μου

O Yahweh, why do you make us wander from your ways, and harden our heart from your fear? Return for your servants’ sake, the tribes of your inheritance.

Yahweh says, “As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one says, ‘Don’t destroy it, for a blessing is in it:’ so I will do for my servants’ sake, that I may not destroy them all.

ουτως λεγει κυριος ον τροπον ευρεθησεται ο ρωξ εν τω βοτρυι και ερουσιν μη λυμηνη αυτον οτι ευλογια κυριου εστιν εν αυτω ουτως ποιησω ενεκεν του δουλευοντος μοι τουτου ενεκεν ου μη απολεσω παντας

I will bring offspring out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains. My chosen will inherit it, and my servants will dwell there.

Therefore the Lord Yahweh says, “Behold, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry; behold, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. Behold, my servants will rejoice, but you will be disappointed.

Behold, my servants will sing for joy of heart, but you will cry for sorrow of heart, and will wail for anguish of spirit.

καταλειψετε γαρ το ονομα υμων εις πλησμονην τοις εκλεκτοις μου υμας δε ανελει κυριος τοις δε δουλευουσιν αυτω κληθησεται ονομα καινον

You will see it, and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones will flourish like the tender grass. Yahweh’s hand will be known among his servants; and he will have indignation against his enemies.

Afterward,” says Yahweh, “I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants, and the people, even those who are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life. He will strike them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, have pity, or have mercy.” ’

‘Hear Yahweh’s word, king of Judah, who sits on David’s throne—you, your servants, and your people who enter in by these gates.

For if you do this thing indeed, then kings sitting on David’s throne will enter in by the gates of this house, riding in chariots and on horses—they, their servants, and their people.

Yahweh has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them (but you have not listened or inclined your ear to hear),

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,” says Yahweh, “and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant. I have also given the animals of the field to him to serve him.

^[34:6] εδωκα την γην τω ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλει βαβυλωνος δουλευειν αυτω και τα θηρια του αγρου εργαζεσθαι αυτω

because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh, “with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.

Therefore don’t be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh. Don’t be dismayed, Israel. For, behold, I will save you from afar, and save your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return, and will be quiet and at ease. No one will make him afraid.

then my covenant could also be broken with David my servant, that he won’t have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levitical priests, my ministers.

[Then] may also my covenant H1285 be broken H6565 (HophImpf) with David H1732 my servant, H5650 that he should not have a son H1121 to reign H4427 (QalActPtc) upon his throne; H3678 and with the Levites H3881 the priests, H3548 my ministers. H8334 (PielPtc)

As the army of the sky can’t be counted, and the sand of the sea can’t be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant and the Levites who minister to me.’ ”

As the host H6635 of heaven H8064 cannot be numbered, H5608 (NiphImpf) neither the sand H2344 of the sea H3220 measured: H4058 (NiphImpf) so will I multiply H7235 (HiphImpf) the seed H2233 of David H1732 my servant, H5650 and the Levites H3881 that minister H8334 (PielPtc) unto me.

then I will also cast away the offspring of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not take of his offspring to be rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; for I will cause their captivity to be reversed and will have mercy on them.”

that every man should let his male servant, and every man his female servant, who is a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free, that no one should make bondservants of them, of a Jew his brother.

All the princes and all the people obeyed who had entered into the covenant, that everyone should let his male servant and everyone his female servant go free, that no one should make bondservants of them any more. They obeyed and let them go,

but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids whom they had let go free to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

“Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying:

^[41:13] ουτως ειπεν κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ εγω εθεμην διαθηκην προς τους πατερας υμων εν τη ημερα η εξειλαμην αυτους εκ γης αιγυπτου εξ οικου δουλειας λεγων

but you turned and profaned my name, and every man caused his servant and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return. You brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.’ ”

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Every one of you must return now from his evil way, amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them. Then you will dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers;’ but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

^[42:15] και απεστειλα προς υμας τους παιδας μου τους προφητας λεγων αποστραφητε εκαστος απο της οδου αυτου της πονηρας και βελτιω ποιησατε τα επιτηδευματα υμων και ου πορευσεσθε οπισω θεων ετερων του δουλευειν αυτοις και οικησετε επι της γης ης εδωκα υμιν και τοις πατρασιν υμων και ουκ εκλινατε τα ωτα υμων και ουκ ηκουσατε

The king and his servants who heard all these words were not afraid, and didn’t tear their garments.

I will punish him, his offspring, and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.” ’ ”

But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to Yahweh’s words, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.

However I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, “Oh, don’t do this abominable thing that I hate.”

I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants. Afterwards it will be inhabited, as in the days of old,” says Yahweh.

“But don’t you be afraid, Jacob my servant. Don’t be dismayed, Israel; for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob will return, and will be quiet and at ease. No one will make him afraid.

Don’t be afraid, O Jacob my servant,” says Yahweh, “for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you, but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.”

Servants rule over us. There is no one to deliver us out of their hand.

I will set up one shepherd over them, and he will feed them, even my servant David. He will feed them, and he will be their shepherd.

I, Yahweh, will be their God, and my servant David prince among them. I, Yahweh, have spoken it.

And I the Lord H3068 will be their God, H430 and my servant H5650 David H1732 a prince H5387 among H8432 them; I the Lord H3068 have spoken H1696 (PielPerf) [it].

και εγω κυριος εσομαι αυτοις εις θεον και δαυιδ εν μεσω αυτων αρχων εγω κυριος ελαλησα

“ ‘ “My servant David will be king over them. They all will have one shepherd. They will also walk in my ordinances and observe my statutes, and do them.

και ο δουλος μου δαυιδ αρχων εν μεσω αυτων και ποιμην εις εσται παντων οτι εν τοις προσταγμασιν μου πορευσονται και τα κριματα μου φυλαξονται και ποιησουσιν αυτα

They will dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your fathers lived. They will dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children’s children, forever. David my servant will be their prince forever.

και κατοικησουσιν επι της γης αυτων ην εγω δεδωκα τω δουλω μου ιακωβ ου κατωκησαν εκει οι πατερες αυτων και κατοικησουσιν επ αυτης αυτοι και δαυιδ ο δουλος μου αρχων αυτων εσται εις τον αιωνα

“ ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Are you he of whom I spoke in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for years that I would bring you against them?

But if he gives of his inheritance a gift to one of his servants, it shall be his to the year of liberty; then it shall return to the prince; but as for his inheritance, it shall be for his sons.

“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.

πειρασον δη τους παιδας σου ημερας δεκα και δοτωσαν ημιν απο των σπερματων και φαγομεθα και υδωρ πιομεθα

Then let our faces be examined before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s delicacies; and as you see, deal with your servants.”

και οφθητωσαν ενωπιον σου αι ιδεαι ημων και αι ιδεαι των παιδαριων των εσθιοντων την τραπεζαν του βασιλεως και καθως αν ιδης ποιησον μετα των παιδων σου

We haven’t listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

Neither have we hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) unto thy servants H5650 the prophets, H5030 which spake H1696 (PielPerf) in thy name H8034 to our kings, H4428 our princes, H8269 and our fathers, H1 and to all the people H5971 of the land. H776
