και εγενετο μια φωνη εν τω σαλπιζειν και εν τω ψαλτωδειν και εν τω αναφωνειν φωνη μια του εξομολογεισθαι και αινειν τω κυριω και ως υψωσαν φωνην εν σαλπιγξιν και εν κυμβαλοις και εν οργανοις των ωδων και ελεγον εξομολογεισθε τω κυριω οτι αγαθον οτι εις τον αιωνα το ελεος αυτου και ο οικος ενεπλησθη νεφελης δοξης κυριου

so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for Yahweh’s glory filled God’s house.

But I have built you a house and home, a place for you to dwell in forever.”

και εγω ωκοδομηκα οικον τω ονοματι σου αγιον σοι και ετοιμον του κατασκηνωσαι εις τους αιωνας

‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there, and I chose no man to be prince over my people Israel;

απο της ημερας ης ανηγαγον τον λαον μου εκ γης αιγυπτου ουκ εξελεξαμην εν πολει απο πασων φυλων ισραηλ του οικοδομησαι οικον του ειναι ονομα μου εκει και ουκ εξελεξαμην εν ανδρι του ειναι εις ηγουμενον επι τον λαον μου ισραηλ

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Now it was in the heart H3824 of David H1732 my father H1 to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 for the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel. H3478

και εγενετο επι καρδιαν δαυιδ του πατρος μου του οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου ισραηλ

But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;

But the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) to David H1732 my father, H1 Forasmuch as it was in thine heart H3824 to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 for my name, H8034 thou didst well H2895 (HiphPerf) in that it was in thine heart: H3824

και ειπεν κυριος προς δαυιδ πατερα μου διοτι εγενετο επι καρδιαν σου του οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι μου καλως εποιησας οτι εγενετο επι καρδιαν σου

nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will come out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’

Notwithstanding H7535 thou shalt not build H1129 (QalImpf) the house; H1004 but thy son H1121 which shall come forth H3318 (QalActPtc) out of thy loins, H2504 he shall build H1129 (QalImpf) the house H1004 for my name. H8034

πλην συ ουκ οικοδομησεις τον οικον οτι ο υιος σου ος εξελευσεται εκ της οσφυος σου ουτος οικοδομησει τον οικον τω ονοματι μου

“Yahweh has performed his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

και ανεστησεν κυριος τον λογον αυτου ον ελαλησεν και εγενηθην αντι δαυιδ πατρος μου και εκαθισα επι τον θρονον ισραηλ καθως ελαλησεν κυριος και ωκοδομησα τον οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου ισραηλ

“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

But will God H430 in very deed H552 dwell H3427 (QalImpf) with men H120 on the earth? H776 behold, heaven H8064 and the heaven H8064 of heavens H8064 cannot contain H3557 (PilpImpf) thee; how much less this house H1004 which I have built! H1129 (QalPerf)

οτι ει αληθως κατοικησει θεος μετα ανθρωπων επι της γης ει ο ουρανος και ο ουρανος του ουρανου ουκ αρκεσουσιν σοι και τις ο οικος ουτος ον ωκοδομησα

that your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place where you have said that you would put your name, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place.

εαν αμαρτη ανηρ τω πλησιον αυτου και λαβη επ αυτον αραν του αρασθαι αυτον και ελθη και αρασηται κατεναντι του θυσιαστηριου εν τω οικω τουτω

“If your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn again and confess your name, and pray and make supplication before you in this house,

και εαν θραυσθη ο λαος σου ισραηλ κατεναντι του εχθρου εαν αμαρτωσιν σοι και επιστρεψωσιν και εξομολογησωνται τω ονοματι σου και προσευξωνται και δεηθωσιν εναντιον σου εν τω οικω τουτω

whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who will each know his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread out his hands toward this house,

“Moreover, concerning the foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, when he comes from a far country for your great name’s sake and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, when they come and pray toward this house,

και πας αλλοτριος ος ουκ εκ του λαου σου ισραηλ εστιν αυτος και ελθη εκ γης μακροθεν δια το ονομα σου το μεγα και την χειρα σου την κραταιαν και τον βραχιονα σου τον υψηλον και ελθωσιν και προσευξωνται εις τον τοπον τουτον

then hear from heaven, even from your dwelling place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for; that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name.

Then hear H8085 (QalImpf) thou from the heavens, H8064 [even] from thy dwelling H3427 (QalInf) place, H4349 and do H6213 (QalPerf) according to all that the stranger H5237 calleth H7121 (QalImpf) to thee for; that all people H5971 of the earth H776 may know H3045 (QalImpf) thy name, H8034 and fear H3372 (QalInf) thee, as [doth] thy people H5971 Israel, H3478 and may know H3045 (QalInf) that this house H1004 which I have built H1129 (QalPerf) is called H7121 (NiphPerf) by thy name. και εισακουση εκ του ουρανου εξ ετοιμου κατοικητηριου σου και ποιησεις κατα παντα οσα εαν επικαλεσηται σε ο αλλοτριος οπως γνωσιν παντες οι λαοι της γης το ονομα σου και του φοβεισθαι σε ως ο λαος σου ισραηλ και του γνωναι οτι επικεκληται το ονομα σου επι τον οικον τουτον ον ωκοδομησα

“If your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way you send them, and they pray to you toward this city which you have chosen, and the house which I have built for your name;

If thy people H5971 go out H3318 (QalImpf) to war H4421 against their enemies H341 (QalActPtc) by the way H1870 that thou shalt send H7971 (QalImpf) them, and they pray H6419 (HithPerf) unto thee toward H1870 this city H5892 which thou hast chosen, H977 (QalPerf) and the house H1004 which I have built H1129 (QalPerf) for thy name; H8034

εαν δε εξελθη ο λαος σου εις πολεμον επι τους εχθρους αυτου εν οδω η αποστελεις αυτους και προσευξωνται προς σε κατα την οδον της πολεως ταυτης ην εξελεξω εν αυτη και οικου ου ωκοδομησα τω ονοματι σου

if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been taken captive, and pray toward their land which you gave to their fathers, and the city which you have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for your name;

Now when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and Yahweh’s glory filled the house.

Now when Solomon H8010 had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of praying, H6419 (HithInf) the fire H784 came down H3381 (QalPerf) from heaven, H8064 and consumed H398 (QalImpf) the burnt offering H5930 and the sacrifices; H2077 and the glory H3519 of the Lord H3068 filled H4390 (QalPerf) the house. H1004

και ως συνετελεσεν σαλωμων προσευχομενος και το πυρ κατεβη εκ του ουρανου και κατεφαγεν τα ολοκαυτωματα και τας θυσιας και δοξα κυριου επλησεν τον οικον

The priests could not enter into Yahweh’s house, because Yahweh’s glory filled Yahweh’s house.

And the priests H3548 could H3201 (QalPerf) not enter H935 (QalInf) into the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 because the glory H3519 of the Lord H3068 had filled H4390 (QalPerf) the Lord’s H3068 house. H1004

και ουκ ηδυναντο οι ιερεις εισελθειν εις τον οικον κυριου εν τω καιρω εκεινω οτι επλησεν δοξα κυριου τον οικον

All the children of Israel looked on, when the fire came down, and Yahweh’s glory was on the house. They bowed themselves with their faces to the ground on the pavement, worshiped, and gave thanks to Yahweh, saying, “For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!”

And when all the children H1121 of Israel H3478 saw H7200 (QalActPtc) how the fire H784 came down, H3381 (QalInf) and the glory H3519 of the Lord H3068 upon the house, H1004 they bowed H3766 (QalImpf) themselves with their faces H639 to the ground H776 upon the pavement, H7531 and worshipped, H7812 (HithImpf) and praised H3034 (HiphInf) the Lord, H3068 [saying], For [he is] good; H2896 for his mercy H2617 [endureth] for ever. και παντες οι υιοι ισραηλ εωρων καταβαινον το πυρ και η δοξα κυριου επι τον οικον και επεσον επι προσωπον επι την γην επι το λιθοστρωτον και προσεκυνησαν και ηνουν τω κυριω οτι αγαθον οτι εις τον αιωνα το ελεος αυτου

King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated God’s house.

And king H4428 Solomon H8010 offered H2076 (QalImpf) a sacrifice H2077 of twenty H6242 and two H8147 thousand H505 oxen, H1241 and an hundred H3967 and twenty H6242 thousand H505 sheep: H6629 so the king H4428 and all the people H5971 dedicated H2596 (QalImpf) the house H1004 of God. H430

και εθυσιασεν σαλωμων την θυσιαν μοσχων εικοσι και δυο χιλιαδας και βοσκηματων εκατον και εικοσι χιλιαδας και ενεκαινισεν τον οικον του θεου ο βασιλευς και πας ο λαος

Moreover Solomon made the middle of the court that was before Yahweh’s house holy; for there he offered the burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offering, the meal offering, and the fat.

και ηγιασεν σαλωμων το μεσον της αυλης της εν οικω κυριου οτι εποιησεν εκει τα ολοκαυτωματα και τα στεατα των σωτηριων οτι το θυσιαστηριον το χαλκουν ο εποιησεν σαλωμων ουκ εξεποιει δεξασθαι τα ολοκαυτωματα και τα μαναα και τα στεατα

Thus Solomon finished Yahweh’s house and the king’s house; and he successfully completed all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in Yahweh’s house and in his own house.

Thus Solomon H8010 finished H3615 (PielImpf) the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and the king’s H4428 house: H1004 and all that came H935 (QalActPtc) into Solomon’s H8010 heart H3820 to make H6213 (QalInf) in the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and in his own house, H1004 he prosperously effected. H6743 (HiphPerf)

και συνετελεσεν σαλωμων τον οικον κυριου και τον οικον του βασιλεως και παντα οσα ηθελησεν εν τη ψυχη σαλωμων του ποιησαι εν οικω κυριου και εν οικω αυτου ευοδωθη

Then Yahweh appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him, “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for myself for a house of sacrifice.

And the Lord H3068 appeared H7200 (NiphImpf) to Solomon H8010 by night, H3915 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, I have heard H8085 (QalPerf) thy prayer, H8605 and have chosen H977 (QalPerf) this place H4725 to myself for an house H1004 of sacrifice. H2077

και ωφθη ο θεος τω σαλωμων την νυκτα και ειπεν αυτω ηκουσα της προσευχης σου και εξελεξαμην εν τω τοπω τουτω εμαυτω εις οικον θυσιας

For now I have chosen and made this house holy, that my name may be there forever; and my eyes and my heart will be there perpetually.

For now have I chosen H977 (QalPerf) and sanctified H6942 (HiphPerf) this house, H1004 that my name H8034 may be there for H5704 ever: H5769 and mine eyes H5869 and mine heart H3820 shall be there perpetually. H3117

και νυν εξελεξαμην και ηγιακα τον οικον τουτον του ειναι ονομα μου εκει εως αιωνος και εσονται οι οφθαλμοι μου και η καρδια μου εκει πασας τας ημερας

then I will pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

Then will I pluck them up by the roots H5428 (QalPerf) out of my land H127 which I have given H5414 (QalPerf) them; and this house, H1004 which I have sanctified H6942 (HiphPerf) for my name, H8034 will I cast out H7993 (HiphImpf) of my sight, H6440 and will make H5414 (QalImpf) it [to be] a proverb H4912 and a byword H8148 among all nations. και εξαρω υμας απο της γης ης εδωκα αυτοις και τον οικον τουτον ον ηγιασα τω ονοματι μου αποστρεψω εκ προσωπου μου και δωσω αυτον εις παραβολην και εις διηγημα εν πασιν τοις εθνεσιν

This house, which is so high, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?’

And this house, H1004 which is high, H5945 shall be an astonishment H8074 (QalImpf) to every one that passeth H5674 (QalActPtc) by it; so that he shall say, H559 (QalPerf) Why hath the Lord H3068 done H6213 (QalPerf) thus unto this land, H776 and unto this house? H1004

και ο οικος ουτος ο υψηλος πας ο διαπορευομενος αυτον εκστησεται και ερει χαριν τινος εποιησεν κυριος τη γη ταυτη και τω οικω τουτω

At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built Yahweh’s house and his own house,

And it came to pass at the end H7093 of twenty H6242 years, H8141 wherein Solomon H8010 had built H1129 (QalPerf) the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and his own house, H1004

και εγενετο μετα εικοσι ετη εν οις ωκοδομησεν σαλωμων τον οικον κυριου και τον οικον εαυτου

Solomon brought up Pharaoh’s daughter out of David’s city to the house that he had built for her; for he said, “My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where Yahweh’s ark has come are holy.”

And Solomon H8010 brought up H5927 (HiphPerf) the daughter H1323 of Pharaoh H6547 out of the city H5892 of David H1732 unto the house H1004 that he had built H1129 (QalPerf) for her: for he said, H559 (QalPerf) My wife H802 shall not dwell H3427 (QalImpf) in the house H1004 of David H1732 king H4428 of Israel, H3478 because [the places are] holy, H6944 whereunto the ark H727 of the Lord H3068 hath come. και την θυγατερα φαραω σαλωμων ανηγαγεν εκ πολεως δαυιδ εις τον οικον ον ωκοδομησεν αυτη οτι ειπεν ου κατοικησει η γυνη μου εν πολει δαυιδ του βασιλεως ισραηλ οτι αγιος εστιν ου εισηλθεν εκει κιβωτος κυριου

Now all the work of Solomon was accomplished from the day of the foundation of Yahweh’s house until it was finished. So Yahweh’s house was completed.

Now all the work H4399 of Solomon H8010 was prepared H3559 (NiphImpf) unto the day H3117 of the foundation H4143 of the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and until it was finished. H3615 (QalInf) [So] the house H1004 of the Lord H3068 was perfected. H8003

και ητοιμασθη πασα η εργασια αφ ης ημερας εθεμελιωθη εως ου ετελειωσεν σαλωμων τον οικον κυριου

When the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built,

And when the queen H4436 of Sheba H7614 had seen H7200 (QalImpf) the wisdom H2451 of Solomon, H8010 and the house H1004 that he had built, H1129 (QalPerf)

και ειδεν βασιλισσα σαβα την σοφιαν σαλωμων και τον οικον ον ωκοδομησεν

the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the attendance of his ministers, their clothing, his cup bearers and their clothing, and his ascent by which he went up to Yahweh’s house, there was no more spirit in her.^§

The king used algum tree wood to make terraces for Yahweh’s house and for the king’s house, and harps and stringed instruments for the singers. There were none like these seen before in the land of Judah.

He made three hundred shields of beaten gold. Three hundred shekels° of gold went to one shield. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon.

2 Chronicles 9:16 A shekel is about 10 grams or about 0.32 Troy ounces, so 300 shekels was about 3 kilograms or about 96 Troy ounces.

All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. Silver was not considered valuable in the days of Solomon.

και παντα τα σκευη του βασιλεως σαλωμων χρυσιου και παντα τα σκευη οικου δρυμου του λιβανου χρυσιω κατειλημμενα ουκ ην αργυριον λογιζομενον εν ημεραις σαλωμων εις ουθεν

When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.

So Israel rebelled against David’s house to this day.

When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

και ηλθεν ροβοαμ εις ιερουσαλημ και εξεκκλησιασεν τον ιουδαν και βενιαμιν εκατον ογδοηκοντα χιλιαδας νεανισκων ποιουντων πολεμον και επολεμει προς ισραηλ του επιστρεψαι την βασιλειαν τω ροβοαμ

‘Yahweh says, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Every man return to his house; for this thing is of me.” ’ ” So they listened to Yahweh’s words, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem and took away the treasures of Yahweh’s house and the treasures of the king’s house. He took it all away. He also took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

και ανεβη σουσακιμ βασιλευς αιγυπτου και ελαβεν τους θησαυρους τους εν οικω κυριου και τους θησαυρους τους εν οικω του βασιλεως τα παντα ελαβεν και ελαβεν τους θυρεους τους χρυσους ους εποιησεν σαλωμων

King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house.

As often as the king entered into Yahweh’s house, the guard came and bore them, then brought them back into the guard room.

και εγενετο εν τω εισελθειν τον βασιλεα εις οικον κυριου εισεπορευοντο οι φυλασσοντες και οι παρατρεχοντες και οι επιστρεφοντες εις απαντησιν των παρατρεχοντων

He brought the things that his father had dedicated and that he himself had dedicated, silver, gold, and vessels into God’s house.

και εισηνεγκεν τα αγια δαυιδ του πατρος αυτου και τα αγια οικου κυριου του θεου αργυριον και χρυσιον και σκευη

Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of Yahweh’s house and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben Hadad king of Syria, who lived at Damascus, saying,

Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

This was the numbering of them according to their fathers’ houses: From Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor;

και ουτος αριθμος αυτων κατ οικους πατριων αυτων τω ιουδα χιλιαρχοι εδνας ο αρχων και μετ αυτου υιοι δυνατοι δυναμεως τριακοσιαι χιλιαδες

He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them each return to his house in peace.’ ”

και ειπεν ειδον τον ισραηλ διεσπαρμενους εν τοις ορεσιν ως προβατα οις ουκ εστιν ποιμην και ειπεν κυριος ουκ εχουσιν ηγουμενον αναστρεφετωσαν εκαστος εις τον οικον αυτου εν ειρηνη

and say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.” ’ ”

και ερεις ουτως ειπεν ο βασιλευς αποθεσθε τουτον εις οικον φυλακης και εσθιετω αρτον θλιψεως και υδωρ θλιψεως εως του επιστρεψαι με εν ειρηνη

Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

And Jehoshaphat H3092 the king H4428 of Judah H3063 returned H7725 (QalImpf) to his house H1004 in peace H7965 to Jerusalem. H3389

και απεστρεψεν ιωσαφατ βασιλευς ιουδα εις τον οικον αυτου εν ειρηνη εις ιερουσαλημ
