The king answered Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation?”

Daniel answered before the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded can’t be shown to the king by wise men, enchanters, magicians, or soothsayers;

και απεκριθη δανιηλ ενωπιον του βασιλεως και λεγει το μυστηριον ο ο βασιλευς επερωτα ουκ εστιν σοφων μαγων επαοιδων γαζαρηνων αναγγειλαι τω βασιλει

but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head on your bed are these:

αλλ η εστιν θεος εν ουρανω αποκαλυπτων μυστηρια και εγνωρισεν τω βασιλει ναβουχοδονοσορ α δει γενεσθαι επ εσχατων των ημερων το ενυπνιον σου και αι ορασεις της κεφαλης σου επι της κοιτης σου τουτο εστιν

“As for you, O king, your thoughts came on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what will happen.

συ βασιλευ οι διαλογισμοι σου επι της κοιτης σου ανεβησαν τι δει γενεσθαι μετα ταυτα και ο αποκαλυπτων μυστηρια εγνωρισεν σοι α δει γενεσθαι

But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

But as for me, H576 this H1836 secret H7328 is not H3809 revealed H1541 (PealPasPtc) to me for [any] wisdom H2452 that I have H383 more than H4481 any H3606 living, H2417 but H3861 for [their] sakes H1701 that H5922 shall make known H3046 (AphImpf) the interpretation H6591 to the king, H4430 and that thou mightest know H3046 (PealImpf) the thoughts H7476 of thy heart. και εμοι δε ουκ εν σοφια τη ουση εν εμοι παρα παντας τους ζωντας το μυστηριον τουτο απεκαλυφθη αλλ ενεκεν του την συγκρισιν τω βασιλει γνωρισαι ινα τους διαλογισμους της καρδιας σου γνως

“You, O king, saw, and behold,^§ a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its appearance was terrifying.

Daniel 2:31 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

“This is the dream; and we will tell its interpretation before the king.

You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, the strength, and the glory.

“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will happen hereafter. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”

ον τροπον ειδες οτι απο ορους ετμηθη λιθος ανευ χειρων και ελεπτυνεν το οστρακον τον σιδηρον τον χαλκον τον αργυρον τον χρυσον ο θεος ο μεγας εγνωρισεν τω βασιλει α δει γενεσθαι μετα ταυτα και αληθινον το ενυπνιον και πιστη η συγκρισις αυτου

Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an offering and sweet odors to him.

The king answered to Daniel, and said, “Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you have been able to reveal this secret.”

και αποκριθεις ο βασιλευς ειπεν τω δανιηλ επ αληθειας ο θεος υμων αυτος εστιν θεος θεων και κυριος των βασιλεων και αποκαλυπτων μυστηρια οτι ηδυνηθης αποκαλυψαι το μυστηριον τουτο

Then the king made Daniel great and gave him many great gifts, and made him rule over the whole province of Babylon and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, but Daniel was in the king’s gate.

Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits° and its width six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Daniel 3:1 A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters.

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the local governors, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Then the local governors, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

και συνηχθησαν οι τοπαρχαι υπατοι στρατηγοι ηγουμενοι τυραννοι μεγαλοι οι επ εξουσιων και παντες οι αρχοντες των χωρων εις τον εγκαινισμον της εικονος ης εστησεν ναβουχοδονοσορ ο βασιλευς και ειστηκεισαν ενωπιον της εικονος ης εστησεν ναβουχοδονοσορ

that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.

[That] at what time H5732 ye hear H8086 (PealImpf) the sound H7032 of the cornet, H7162 flute, H4953 harp, H7030 (Qere) H7030 sackbut, H5443 psaltery, H6460 dulcimer, H5481 and all H3606 kinds H2178 of musick, H2170 ye fall down H5308 (PealImpf) and worship H5457 (PealImpf) the golden H1722 image H6755 that Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 hath set up: H6966 (AphPerf)

η αν ωρα ακουσητε της φωνης της σαλπιγγος συριγγος τε και κιθαρας σαμβυκης και ψαλτηριου και συμφωνιας και παντος γενους μουσικων πιπτοντες προσκυνειτε τη εικονι τη χρυση η εστησεν ναβουχοδονοσορ ο βασιλευς

Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Therefore H6903 H1836 at that time, H2166 when H1768 all H3606 the people H5972 heard H8086 (PealPtc) the sound H7032 of the cornet, H7162 flute, H4953 harp, H7030 (Qere) H7030 sackbut, H5443 psaltery, H6460 and all H3606 kinds H2178 of musick, H2170 all H3606 the people, H5972 the nations, H524 and the languages, H3961 fell down H5308 (PealPtc) [and] worshipped H5457 (PealPtc) the golden H1722 image H6755 that Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 had set up. They answered Nebuchadnezzar the king, “O king, live for ever!

You, O king, have made a decree that every man who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music shall fall down and worship the golden image;

There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, have not respected you. They don’t serve your gods, and don’t worship the golden image which you have set up.”

Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. Then these men were brought before the king.

τοτε ναβουχοδονοσορ εν θυμω και οργη ειπεν αγαγειν τον σεδραχ μισαχ και αβδεναγω και ηχθησαν ενωπιον του βασιλεως

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.

Shadrach, H7715 Meshach, H4336 and Abednego, H5665 answered H6032 (PealPerf) and said H560 (PealPtc) to the king, H4430 O Nebuchadnezzar, H5020 we H586 [are] not H3809 careful H2818 (PealPtc) to answer H8421 (AphInf) thee in H5922 this H1836 matter. H6600

και απεκριθησαν σεδραχ μισαχ αβδεναγω λεγοντες τω βασιλει ναβουχοδονοσορ ου χρειαν εχομεν ημεις περι του ρηματος τουτου αποκριθηναι σοι

If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

If H2006 it be [so], our God H426 whom we H586 serve H6399 (PealPtc) is H383 able H3202 (PealPtc) to deliver H7804 (PeelInf) us from H4481 the burning H3345 (PealActPtc) fiery H5135 furnace, H861 and H4481 he will deliver H7804 (PeelImpf) [us] out of H4481 thine hand, H3028 O king. H4430

εστιν γαρ θεος ω ημεις λατρευομεν δυνατος εξελεσθαι ημας εκ της καμινου του πυρος της καιομενης και εκ των χειρων σου βασιλευ ρυσεται ημας

But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”

But if H2006 not, H3809 be it H1934 (PealImpf) known H3046 (PealPasPtc) unto thee, O king, H4430 that we will H383 not H3809 serve H6399 (PealPtc) thy gods, H426 nor H3809 worship H5457 (PealImpf) the golden H1722 image H6755 which thou hast set up. H6966 (AphPerf)

και εαν μη γνωστον εστω σοι βασιλευ οτι τοις θεοις σου ου λατρευομεν και τη εικονι τη χρυση η εστησας ου προσκυνουμεν

Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished and rose up in haste. He spoke and said to his counselors, “Didn’t we cast three men bound into the middle of the fire?” They answered the king, “True, O king.”

^[3:91] και ναβουχοδονοσορ ηκουσεν υμνουντων αυτων και εθαυμασεν και εξανεστη εν σπουδη και ειπεν τοις μεγιστασιν αυτου ουχι ανδρας τρεις εβαλομεν εις μεσον του πυρος πεπεδημενους και ειπαν τω βασιλει αληθως βασιλευ

The local governors, the deputies, and the governors, and the king’s counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power on their bodies. The hair of their head wasn’t singed. Their pants weren’t changed. The smell of fire wasn’t even on them.

And the princes, H324 governors, H5460 and captains, H6347 and the king’s H4430 counsellors, H1907 being gathered together, H3673 (ItpaPtc) saw H2370 (PealActPtc) these H479 men, H1400 upon whose bodies H1655 the fire H5135 had no H3809 power, H7981 (PealPerf) nor H3809 was an hair H8177 of their head H7217 singed, H2761 (ItpaPerf) neither H3809 were their coats H5622 changed, H8133 (PealPerf) nor H3809 the smell H7382 of fire H5135 had passed H5709 (PealPerf) on them.

“This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”

τουτο το ενυπνιον ο ειδον εγω ναβουχοδονοσορ ο βασιλευς και συ βαλτασαρ το συγκριμα ειπον οτι παντες οι σοφοι της βασιλειας μου ου δυνανται το συγκριμα αυτου δηλωσαι μοι συ δε δανιηλ δυνασαι οτι πνευμα θεου αγιον εν σοι

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream or the interpretation, trouble you.”

it is you, O king, that have grown and become strong; for your greatness has grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

“Whereas the king saw a holy watcher coming down from the sky and saying, ‘Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky. Let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him.’

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.”

απεκριθη ο βασιλευς και ειπεν ουχ αυτη εστιν βαβυλων η μεγαλη ην εγω ωκοδομησα εις οικον βασιλειας εν τω κρατει της ισχυος μου εις τιμην της δοξης μου

While the word was in the king’s mouth, a voice came from the sky, saying, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: ‘The kingdom has departed from you.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.

Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of God’s house which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them.

In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand came out and wrote near the lamp stand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace. The king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

Then the king’s face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.

The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and shows me its interpretation shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”

και εβοησεν ο βασιλευς εν ισχυι του εισαγαγειν μαγους χαλδαιους γαζαρηνους και ειπεν τοις σοφοις βαβυλωνος ος αν αναγνω την γραφην ταυτην και την συγκρισιν γνωριση μοι πορφυραν ενδυσεται και ο μανιακης ο χρυσους επι τον τραχηλον αυτου και τριτος εν τη βασιλεια μου αρξει

Then all the king’s wise men came in; but they could not read the writing, and couldn’t make known to the king the interpretation.
