“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

For then the king H4428 of Babylon’s H894 army H2428 besieged H6696 (QalActPtc) Jerusalem: H3389 and Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 was shut up H3607 (QalPasPtc) in the court H2691 of the prison, H4307 which [was] in the king H4428 of Judah’s H3063 house. H1004

^[39:2] και δυναμις βασιλεως βαβυλωνος εχαρακωσεν επι ιερουσαλημ και ιερεμιας εφυλασσετο εν αυλη της φυλακης η εστιν εν οικω του βασιλεως

For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: ‘Houses and fields and vineyards will yet again be bought in this land.’

^[39:15] οτι ουτως ειπεν κυριος ετι κτηθησονται αγροι και οικιαι και αμπελωνες εν τη γη ταυτη

The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

And the Chaldeans, H3778 that fight H3898 (NiphPtc) against this city, H5892 shall come H935 (QalPerf) and set H3341 (HiphPerf) fire H784 on this city, H5892 and burn H8313 (QalPerf) it with the houses, H1004 upon whose roofs H1406 they have offered incense H6999 (PielPerf) unto Baal, H1168 and poured out H5258 (HiphPerf) drink offerings H5262 unto other H312 gods, H430 to provoke me to anger. ^[39:29] και ηξουσιν οι χαλδαιοι πολεμουντες επι την πολιν ταυτην και καυσουσιν την πολιν ταυτην εν πυρι και κατακαυσουσιν τας οικιας εν αις εθυμιωσαν επι των δωματων αυτων τη βααλ και εσπενδον σπονδας θεοις ετεροις προς το παραπικραναι με

But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

But they set H7760 (QalImpf) their abominations H8251 in the house, H1004 which is called H7121 (NiphPerf) by my name, H8034 to defile H2930 (PielInf) it.

^[39:34] και εθηκαν τα μιασματα αυτων εν τω οικω ου επεκληθη το ονομα μου επ αυτω εν ακαθαρσιαις αυτων

For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defense against the mounds and against the sword:

For thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 the God H430 of Israel, H3478 concerning the houses H1004 of this city, H5892 and concerning the houses H1004 of the kings H4428 of Judah, H3063 which are thrown down H5422 (QalPasPtc) by the mounts, H5550 and by the sword; H2719

^[40:4] οτι ουτως ειπεν κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ περι οικων της πολεως ταυτης και περι οικων βασιλεως ιουδα των καθηρημενων εις χαρακας και προμαχωνας

the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, ‘Give thanks to Yahweh of Armies, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever;’ who bring thanksgiving into Yahweh’s house. For I will cause the captivity of the land to be reversed as at the first,” says Yahweh.

^[40:11] φωνη ευφροσυνης και φωνη χαρμοσυνης φωνη νυμφιου και φωνη νυμφης φωνη λεγοντων εξομολογεισθε κυριω παντοκρατορι οτι χρηστος κυριος οτι εις τον αιωνα το ελεος αυτου και εισοισουσιν δωρα εις οικον κυριου οτι αποστρεψω πασαν την αποικιαν της γης εκεινης κατα το προτερον ειπεν κυριος

“Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

For Yahweh says: “David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.

“Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying:

You had now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in every man proclaiming liberty to his neighbor. You had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name;

“Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into Yahweh’s house, into one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink.”

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, with his brothers, all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

and I brought them into Yahweh’s house, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

And I brought H935 (HiphImpf) them into the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 into the chamber H3957 of the sons H1121 of Hanan, H2605 the son H1121 of Igdaliah, H3012 a man H376 of God, H430 which [was] by H681 the chamber H3957 of the princes, H8269 which [was] above H4605 the chamber H3957 of Maaseiah H4641 the son H1121 of Shallum, H7967 the keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of the door: H5592

I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, “Drink wine!”

^[42:5] και εδωκα κατα προσωπον αυτων κεραμιον οινου και ποτηρια και ειπα πιετε οινον

You shall not build a house, sow seed, plant a vineyard, or have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents, that you may live many days in the land in which you live as nomads.’

Neither shall ye build H1129 (QalImpf) house, H1004 nor sow H2232 (QalImpf) seed, H2233 nor plant H5193 (QalImpf) vineyard, H3754 nor have [any]: but all your days H3117 ye shall dwell H3427 (QalImpf) in tents; H168 that ye may live H2421 (QalImpf) many H7227 days H3117 in H6440 the land H127 where ye [be] strangers. ^[42:7] και οικιαν ου μη οικοδομησητε και σπερμα ου μη σπειρητε και αμπελων ουκ εσται υμιν οτι εν σκηναις οικησετε πασας τας ημερας υμων οπως αν ζησητε ημερας πολλας επι της γης εφ ης διατριβετε υμεις επ αυτης

and not to build houses for ourselves to dwell in. We have no vineyard, field, or seed;

Nor to build H1129 (QalInf) houses H1004 for us to dwell in: H3427 (QalInf) neither have we vineyard, H3754 nor field, H7704 nor seed: H2233

^[42:9] και προς το μη οικοδομειν οικιας του κατοικειν εκει και αμπελων και αγρος και σπερμα ουκ εγενετο ημιν

Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, “Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you,’

And Jeremiah H3414 said H559 (QalPerf) unto the house H1004 of the Rechabites, H7397 Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 Because ye have obeyed H8085 (QalPerf) the commandment H4687 of Jonadab H3082 your father, H1 and kept H8104 (QalImpf) all his precepts, H4687 and done H6213 (QalImpf) according unto all that he hath commanded H6680 (PielPerf) you:

^[42:18] δια τουτο ουτως ειπεν κυριος επειδη ηκουσαν υιοι ιωναδαβ υιου ρηχαβ την εντολην του πατρος αυτων ποιειν καθοτι ενετειλατο αυτοις ο πατηρ αυτων

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I intend to do to them, that they may each return from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

It may be that the house H1004 of Judah H3063 will hear H8085 (QalImpf) all the evil H7451 which I purpose H2803 (QalActPtc) to do H6213 (QalInf) unto them; that they may return H7725 (QalImpf) every man H376 from his evil H7451 way; H1870 that I may forgive H5545 (QalPerf) their iniquity H5771 and their sin. ^[43:3] ισως ακουσεται ο οικος ιουδα παντα τα κακα α εγω λογιζομαι ποιησαι αυτοις ινα αποστρεψωσιν απο οδου αυτων της πονηρας και ιλεως εσομαι ταις αδικιαις αυτων και ταις αμαρτιαις αυτων

Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, “I am restricted. I can’t go into Yahweh’s house.

And Jeremiah H3414 commanded H6680 (PielImpf) Baruch, H1263 saying, H559 (QalInf) I [am] shut up; H6113 (QalPasPtc) I cannot H3201 (QalImpf) go H935 (QalInf) into the house H1004 of the Lord: H3068

^[43:5] και ενετειλατο ιερεμιας τω βαρουχ λεγων εγω φυλασσομαι ου μη δυνωμαι εισελθειν εις οικον κυριου

Therefore you go, and read from the scroll which you have written from my mouth, Yahweh’s words, in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day. Also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.

Therefore go H935 (QalPerf) thou, and read H7121 (QalPerf) in the roll, H4039 which thou hast written H3789 (QalPerf) from my mouth, H6310 the words H1697 of the Lord H3068 in the ears H241 of the people H5971 in the Lord’s H3068 house H1004 upon the fasting H6685 day: H3117 and also thou shalt read H7121 (QalImpf) them in the ears H241 of all Judah H3063 that come out H935 (QalActPtc) of their cities. ^[43:6] και αναγνωση εν τω χαρτιω τουτω εις τα ωτα του λαου εν οικω κυριου εν ημερα νηστειας και εν ωσι παντος ιουδα των ερχομενων εκ πολεως αυτων αναγνωση αυτοις

Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book Yahweh’s words in Yahweh’s house.

And Baruch H1263 the son H1121 of Neriah H5374 did H6213 (QalImpf) according to all that Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) him, reading H7121 (QalInf) in the book H5612 the words H1697 of the Lord H3068 in the Lord’s H3068 house. H1004

^[43:8] και εποιησεν βαρουχ κατα παντα α ενετειλατο αυτω ιερεμιας του αναγνωναι εν τω βιβλιω λογους κυριου εν οικω κυριου

Then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in Yahweh’s house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people.

Then read H7121 (QalImpf) Baruch H1263 in the book H5612 the words H1697 of Jeremiah H3414 in the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 in the chamber H3957 of Gemariah H1587 the son H1121 of Shaphan H8227 the scribe, H5608 (QalActPtc) in the higher H5945 court, H2691 at the entry H6607 of the new H2319 gate H8179 of the Lord’s H3068 house, H1004 in the ears H241 of all the people. ^[43:10] και ανεγινωσκε βαρουχ εν τω βιβλιω τους λογους ιερεμιου εν οικω κυριου εν οικω γαμαριου υιου σαφαν του γραμματεως εν τη αυλη τη επανω εν προθυροις πυλης του οικου κυριου της καινης εν ωσι παντος του λαου

he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room; and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

Then he went down H3381 (QalImpf) into the king’s H4428 house, H1004 into the scribe’s H5608 (QalActPtc) chamber: H3957 and, lo, all the princes H8269 sat H3427 (QalActPtc) there, [even] Elishama H476 the scribe, H5608 (QalActPtc) and Delaiah H1806 the son H1121 of Shemaiah, H8098 and Elnathan H494 the son H1121 of Achbor, H5907 and Gemariah H1587 the son H1121 of Shaphan, H8227 and Zedekiah H6667 the son H1121 of Hananiah, H2608 and all the princes. H8269

^[43:12] και κατεβη εις οικον του βασιλεως εις τον οικον του γραμματεως και ιδου εκει παντες οι αρχοντες εκαθηντο ελισαμα ο γραμματευς και δαλαιας υιος σελεμιου και ελναθαν υιος ακχοβωρ και γαμαριας υιος σαφαν και σεδεκιας υιος ανανιου και παντες οι αρχοντες

Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him.

Now the king H4428 sat H3427 (QalActPtc) in the winterhouse H1004 H2779 in the ninth H8671 month: H2320 and [there was a fire] on the hearth H254 burning H1197 (PualPtc) before H6440 him.

Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, for they had not put him into prison.

Now Jeremiah H3414 came in H935 (QalPerf) and went out H3318 (QalActPtc) among H8432 the people: H5971 for they had not put H5414 (QalPerf) him into prison. H1004 H3628

^[44:4] και ιερεμιας ηλθεν και διηλθεν δια μεσου της πολεως και ουκ εδωκαν αυτον εις οικον της φυλακης

The princes were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.

Wherefore the princes H8269 were wroth H7107 (QalImpf) with Jeremiah, H3414 and smote H5221 (HiphPerf) him, and put H5414 (QalPerf) him in prison H612 in the house H1004 of Jonathan H3083 the scribe: H5608 (QalActPtc) for they had made H6213 (QalPerf) that the prison. H3608

^[44:15] και επικρανθησαν οι αρχοντες επι ιερεμιαν και επαταξαν αυτον και απεστειλαν αυτον εις την οικιαν ιωναθαν του γραμματεως οτι ταυτην εποιησαν εις οικιαν φυλακης

When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days,

When Jeremiah H3414 was entered H935 (QalPerf) into the dungeon, H1004 H953 and into the cabins, H2588 and Jeremiah H3414 had remained H3427 (QalImpf) there many H7227 days; H3117

^[44:16] και ηλθεν ιερεμιας εις οικιαν του λακκου και εις την χερεθ και εκαθισεν εκει ημερας πολλας

then Zedekiah the king sent and had him brought out. The king asked him secretly in his house, “Is there any word from Yahweh?” Jeremiah said, “There is.” He also said, “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”

Then Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 sent, H7971 (QalImpf) and took him out: H3947 (QalImpf) and the king H4428 asked H7592 (QalImpf) him secretly H5643 in his house, H1004 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Is there [any] word H1697 from the Lord? H3068 And Jeremiah H3414 said, H559 (QalImpf) There is: H3426 for, said H559 (QalImpf) he, thou shalt be delivered H5414 (NiphImpf) into the hand H3027 of the king H4428 of Babylon. H894

^[44:17] και απεστειλεν σεδεκιας και εκαλεσεν αυτον και ηρωτα αυτον ο βασιλευς κρυφαιως ειπειν ει εστιν λογος παρα κυριου και ειπεν εστιν εις χειρας βασιλεως βαβυλωνος παραδοθηση

Moreover Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you, against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?

Moreover Jeremiah H3414 said H559 (QalImpf) unto king H4428 Zedekiah, H6667 What have I offended H2398 (QalPerf) against thee, or against thy servants, H5650 or against this people, H5971 that ye have put H5414 (QalPerf) me in prison? H1004 H3608

^[44:18] και ειπεν ιερεμιας τω βασιλει τι ηδικησα σε και τους παιδας σου και τον λαον τουτον οτι συ διδως με εις οικιαν φυλακης

Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.”

Therefore hear H8085 (QalImpv) now, I pray thee, O my lord H113 the king: H4428 let my supplication, H8467 I pray thee, be accepted H5307 (QalImpf) before H6440 thee; that thou cause me not to return H7725 (HiphImpf) to the house H1004 of Jonathan H3083 the scribe, H5608 (QalActPtc) lest I die H4191 (QalImpf) there.

^[44:20] και νυν κυριε βασιλευ πεσετω το ελεος μου κατα προσωπον σου και τι αποστρεφεις με εις οικιαν ιωναθαν του γραμματεως και ου μη αποθανω εκει

Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king was then sitting in Benjamin’s gate),

Now when Ebedmelech H5663 the Ethiopian, H3569 one H376 of the eunuchs H5631 which was in the king’s H4428 house, H1004 heard H8085 (QalImpf) that they had put H5414 (QalPerf) Jeremiah H3414 in the dungeon; H953 the king H4428 then sitting H3427 (QalActPtc) in the gate H8179 of Benjamin; H1144

^[45:7] και ηκουσεν αβδεμελεχ ο αιθιοψ και αυτος εν οικια του βασιλεως οτι εδωκαν ιερεμιαν εις τον λακκον και ο βασιλευς ην εν τη πυλη βενιαμιν

Ebedmelech went out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,

Ebedmelech H5663 went forth H3318 (QalImpf) out of the king’s H4428 house, H1004 and spake H1696 (PielImpf) to the king, H4428 saying, H559 (QalInf)

^[45:8] και εξηλθεν προς αυτον και ελαλησεν προς τον βασιλεα και ειπεν

So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

So Ebedmelech H5663 took H3947 (QalImpf) the men H582 with him, H3027 and went H935 (QalImpf) into the house H1004 of the king H4428 under the treasury, H214 and took H3947 (QalImpf) thence old H1094 cast clouts H5499 and old H1094 rotten rags, H4418 and let them down H7971 (PielImpf) by cords H2256 into the dungeon H953 to Jeremiah. H3414

^[45:11] και ελαβεν αβδεμελεχ τους ανθρωπους και εισηλθεν εις την οικιαν του βασιλεως την υπογειον και ελαβεν εκειθεν παλαια ρακη και παλαια σχοινια και ερριψεν αυτα προς ιερεμιαν εις τον λακκον

Then Zedekiah the king sent and took Jeremiah the prophet to himself into the third entry that is in Yahweh’s house. Then the king said to Jeremiah, “I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me.”

Then Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 sent, H7971 (QalImpf) and took H3947 (QalImpf) Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 unto him into the third H7992 entry H3996 that [is] in the house H1004 of the Lord: H3068 and the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Jeremiah, H3414 I will ask H7592 (QalActPtc) thee a thing; H1697 hide H3582 (PielImpf) nothing from me.

^[45:14] και απεστειλεν ο βασιλευς και εκαλεσεν αυτον προς εαυτον εις οικιαν ασελισι την εν οικω κυριου και ειπεν αυτω ο βασιλευς ερωτησω σε λογον και μη δη κρυψης απ εμου ρημα

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you will go out to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul will live, and this city will not be burned with fire. You will live, along with your house.

^[45:17] και ειπεν αυτω ιερεμιας ουτως ειπεν κυριος εαν εξελθων εξελθης προς ηγεμονας βασιλεως βαβυλωνος και ζησεται η ψυχη σου και η πολις αυτη ου μη κατακαυθη εν πυρι και ζηση συ και η οικια σου

‘Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house will be brought out to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women will say, “Your familiar friends have turned on you, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away from you.”

^[45:22] και ιδου πασαι αι γυναικες αι καταλειφθεισαι εν οικια βασιλεως ιουδα εξηγοντο προς αρχοντας βασιλεως βαβυλωνος και αυται ελεγον ηπατησαν σε και δυνησονται σοι ανδρες ειρηνικοι σου και καταλυσουσιν εν ολισθημασιν ποδας σου απεστρεψαν απο σου

then you shall tell them, ‘I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.’ ”

The Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the people’s houses with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

sent and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should bring him home. So he lived among the people.

“Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brick work which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.

I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt. He will burn them, and carry them away captive. He will array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he will go out from there in peace.

He will also break the pillars of Beth Shemesh that is in the land of Egypt; and he will burn the houses of the gods of Egypt with fire.’ ”

Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.

^[31:13] και καταισχυνθησεται μωαβ απο χαμως ωσπερ κατησχυνθη οικος ισραηλ απο βαιθηλ ελπιδος αυτων πεποιθοτες επ αυτοις

“We are confounded because we have heard reproach. Confusion has covered our faces, for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of Yahweh’s house.”

He burned Yahweh’s house, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house, he burned with fire.

The Chaldeans broke the pillars of bronze that were in Yahweh’s house and the bases and the bronze sea that were in Yahweh’s house in pieces, and carried all of their bronze to Babylon.

Also the pillars H5982 of brass H5178 that [were] in the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and the bases, H4350 and the brasen H5178 sea H3220 that [was] in the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 the Chaldeans H3778 brake, H7665 (PielPerf) and carried H5375 (QalImpf) all the brass H5178 of them to Babylon. και τους στυλους τους χαλκους τους εν οικω κυριου και τας βασεις και την θαλασσαν την χαλκην την εν οικω κυριου συνετριψαν οι χαλδαιοι και ελαβον τον χαλκον αυτων και απηνεγκαν εις βαβυλωνα

They took the two pillars, the one sea, and the twelve bronze bulls that were under the bases, which King Solomon had made for Yahweh’s house. The bronze of all these vessels was without weight.
