Then the king’s scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month Sivan, on the twenty-third day of the month; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the local governors, and the governors and princes of the provinces which are from India to Ethiopia, one hundred twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, and to the Jews in their writing, and in their language.

εκληθησαν δε οι γραμματεις εν τω πρωτω μηνι ος εστι νισα τριτη και εικαδι του αυτου ετους και εγραφη τοις ιουδαιοις οσα ενετειλατο τοις οικονομοις και τοις αρχουσιν των σατραπων απο της ινδικης εως της αιθιοπιας εκατον εικοσι επτα σατραπειαις κατα χωραν και χωραν κατα την εαυτων λεξιν

Therefore they called these days “Purim”,° from the word “Pur.” Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come to them,

δια τουτο επεκληθησαν αι ημεραι αυται φρουραι δια τους κληρους οτι τη διαλεκτω αυτων καλουνται φρουραι δια τους λογους της επιστολης ταυτης και οσα πεπονθασιν δια ταυτα και οσα αυτοις εγενετο

His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

συμπορευομενοι δε οι υιοι αυτου προς αλληλους εποιουσαν ποτον καθ εκαστην ημεραν συμπαραλαμβανοντες αμα και τας τρεις αδελφας αυτων εσθιειν και πινειν μετ αυτων

“Call now; is there any who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?

επικαλεσαι δε ει τις σοι υπακουσεται η ει τινα αγγελων αγιων οψη

If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.

εαν τε καλεσω και υπακουση ου πιστευω οτι εισακηκοεν μου

I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.

δικαιος γαρ ανηρ και αμεμπτος εγενηθη εις χλευασμα

Then call, and I will answer, or let me speak, and you answer me.

ειτα καλεσεις εγω δε σοι υπακουσομαι η λαλησεις εγω δε σοι δωσω ανταποκρισιν

You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.

ειτα καλεσεις εγω δε σοι υπακουσομαι τα δε εργα των χειρων σου μη αποποιου

if I have said to corruption, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ and ‘My sister,’

θανατον επεκαλεσαμην πατερα μου ειναι μητερα δε μου και αδελφην σαπριαν

I call to my servant, and he gives me no answer. I beg him with my mouth.

Will he delight himself in the Almighty, and call on God at all times?

He called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren Happuch.

και εκαλεσεν την μεν πρωτην ημεραν την δε δευτεραν κασιαν την δε τριτην αμαλθειας κερας

I cry to Yahweh with my voice, and he answers me out of his holy hill. Selah.

Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. Give me relief from my distress. Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

εις το τελος εν ψαλμοις ωδη τω δαυιδ ^[4:2] εν τω επικαλεισθαι με εισηκουσεν μου ο θεος της δικαιοσυνης μου εν θλιψει επλατυνας μοι οικτιρησον με και εισακουσον της προσευχης μου

But know that Yahweh has set apart for himself him who is godly; Yahweh will hear when I call to him.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and don’t call on Yahweh?

I have called on you, for you will answer me, God. Turn your ear to me. Hear my speech.

I call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised; and I am saved from my enemies.

^[17:4] αινων επικαλεσομαι κυριον και εκ των εχθρων μου σωθησομαι

In my distress I called on Yahweh, and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears.

To you, Yahweh, I call. My rock, don’t be deaf to me, lest, if you are silent to me, I would become like those who go down into the pit.

^[27:1] του δαυιδ προς σε κυριε εκεκραξα ο θεος μου μη παρασιωπησης απ εμου μηποτε παρασιωπησης απ εμου και ομοιωθησομαι τοις καταβαινουσιν εις λακκον

I cried to you, Yahweh. I made supplication to the Lord:

Let me not be disappointed, Yahweh, for I have called on you. Let the wicked be disappointed. Let them be silent in Sheol.°

This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me.

^[41:8] αβυσσος αβυσσον επικαλειται εις φωνην των καταρρακτων σου παντες οι μετεωρισμοι σου και τα κυματα σου επ εμε διηλθον

Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.

The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, speaks, and calls the earth from sunrise to sunset.

He calls to the heavens above, to the earth, that he may judge his people:

Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and don’t call on God?

As for me, I will call on God. Yahweh will save me.

^[54:17] εγω δε προς τον θεον εκεκραξα και ο κυριος εισηκουσεν μου

Then my enemies shall turn back in the day that I call. I know this: that God is for me.

I cry out to God Most High, to God who accomplishes my requests for me.

From the end of the earth, I will call to you when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

So we will not turn away from you. Revive us, and we will call on your name.

^[80:8] εν θλιψει επεκαλεσω με και ερρυσαμην σε επηκουσα σου εν αποκρυφω καταιγιδος εδοκιμασα σε επι υδατος αντιλογιας διαψαλμα

Be merciful to me, Lord, for I call to you all day long.

For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.

In the day of my trouble I will call on you, for you will answer me.

^[85:7] εν ημερα θλιψεως μου εκεκραξα προς σε οτι εισηκουσας μου

My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you.

He will call to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation!’

He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel was among those who call on his name. They called on Yahweh, and he answered them.
