Psalm 88 (WEBP)

[1] Yahweh, the God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before you.
[2] Let my prayer enter into your presence. Turn your ear to my cry.
[3] For my soul is full of troubles. My life draws near to Sheol.°
[4] I am counted among those who go down into the pit. I am like a man who has no help,
[5] set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.
[6] You have laid me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths.
[7] Your wrath lies heavily on me. You have afflicted me with all your waves. Selah.
[8] You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can’t escape.
[9] My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you.
[10] Do you show wonders to the dead? Do the departed spirits rise up and praise you? Selah.
[11] Is your loving kindness declared in the grave? Or your faithfulness in Destruction?
[12] Are your wonders made known in the dark? Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
[13] But to you, Yahweh, I have cried. In the morning, my prayer comes before you.
[14] Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?
[15] I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.
[16] Your fierce wrath has gone over me. Your terrors have cut me off.
[17] They came around me like water all day long. They completely engulfed me.
[18] You have put lover and friend far from me, and my friends into darkness.

Psalm 88 (KJVS)

[1] «A Song H7892 [or] Psalm H4210 for the sons H1121 of Korah H7141, to the chief Musician H5329 (8764) upon Mahalath H4257 Leannoth H6031 (8763), Maschil H4905 (8688) of Heman H1968 the Ezrahite H250.» O LORD H3068 God H430 of my salvation H3444, I have cried H6817 (8804) day H3117 [and] night H3915 before thee:
[2] Let my prayer H8605 come H935 (8799) before H6440 thee: incline H5186 (8685) thine ear H241 unto my cry H7440;
[3] For my soul H5315 is full H7646 (8804) of troubles H7451: and my life H2416 draweth nigh H5060 (8689) unto the grave H7585.
[4] I am counted H2803 (8738) with them that go down H3381 (8802) into the pit H953: I am as a man H1397 [that hath] no strength H353:
[5] Free H2670 among the dead H4191 (8801), like the slain H2491 that lie H7901 (8802) in the grave H6913, whom thou rememberest H2142 (8804) no more: and they are cut off H1504 (8738) from thy hand H3027.
[6] Thou hast laid H7896 (8804) me in the lowest H8482 pit H953, in darkness H4285, in the deeps H4688.
[7] Thy wrath H2534 lieth hard H5564 (8804) upon me, and thou hast afflicted H6031 (8765) [me] with all thy waves H4867. Selah H5542.
[8] Thou hast put away H7368 mine acquaintance H3045 (8794) far H7368 (8689) from me; thou hast made H7896 (8804) me an abomination H8441 unto them: [I am] shut up H3607 (8803), and I cannot come forth H3318 (8799).
[9] Mine eye H5869 mourneth H1669 (8804) by reason of affliction H6040: LORD H3068, I have called H7121 (8804) daily H3117 upon thee, I have stretched out H7849 (8765) my hands H3709 unto thee.
[10] Wilt thou shew H6213 (8799) wonders H6382 to the dead H4191 (8801)? shall the dead H7496 arise H6965 (8799) [and] praise H3034 (8686) thee? Selah H5542.
[11] Shall thy lovingkindness H2617 be declared H5608 (8792) in the grave H6913? [or] thy faithfulness H530 in destruction H11?
[12] Shall thy wonders H6382 be known H3045 (8735) in the dark H2822? and thy righteousness H6666 in the land H776 of forgetfulness H5388?
[13] But unto thee have I cried H7768 (8765), O LORD H3068; and in the morning H1242 shall my prayer H8605 prevent H6923 (8762) thee.
[14] LORD H3068, why castest thou off H2186 (8799) my soul H5315? [why] hidest H5641 (8686) thou thy face H6440 from me?
[15] I [am] afflicted H6041 and ready to die H1478 (8802) from [my] youth H5290 up: [while] I suffer H5375 (8804) thy terrors H367 I am distracted H6323 (8799).
[16] Thy fierce wrath H2740 goeth over H5674 (8804) me; thy terrors H1161 have cut me off H6789 (8768).
[17] They came round about H5437 (8804) me daily H3117 like water H4325; they compassed H5362 (8689) me about together H3162.
[18] Lover H157 (8802) and friend H7453 hast thou put far H7368 (8689) from me, [and] mine acquaintance H3045 (8794) into darkness H4285.

Young’s Literal Translation

Psalm 88 (YLT)

[1] O Jehovah, God of my salvation, Daily I have cried, nightly before Thee,
[2] My prayer cometh in before Thee, Incline Thine ear to my loud cry,
[3] For my soul hath been full of evils, And my life hath come to Sheol.
[4] I have been reckoned with those going down to the pit, I have been as a man without strength.
[5] Among the dead-free, As pierced ones lying in the grave, Whom Thou hast not remembered any more, Yea, they by Thy hand have been cut off.
[6] Thou hast put me in the lowest pit, In dark places, in depths.
[7] Upon me hath Thy fury lain, And with all Thy breakers Thou hast afflicted. Selah.
[8] Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me, Thou hast made me an abomination to them, Shut up-I go not forth.
[9] Mine eye hath grieved because of affliction, I called Thee, O Jehovah, all the day, I have spread out unto Thee my hands.
[10] To the dead dost Thou do wonders? Do Rephaim rise? do they thank Thee? Selah.
[11] Is Thy kindness recounted in the grave? Thy faithfulness in destruction?
[12] Are Thy wonders known in the darkness? And Thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
[13] And I, unto Thee, O Jehovah, I have cried, And in the morning doth my prayer come before Thee.
[14] Why, O Jehovah, castest Thou off my soul? Thou hidest Thy face from me.
[15] I am afflicted, and expiring from youth, I have borne Thy terrors-I pine away.
[16] Over me hath Thy wrath passed, Thy terrors have cut me off,
[17] They have surrounded me as waters all the day, They have gone round against me together,
[18] Thou hast put far from me lover and friend, Mine acquaintance is the place of darkness!
