Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, “Men are coming out from Samaria.”

^[21:17] και εξηλθον παιδαρια αρχοντων των χωρων εν πρωτοις και αποστελλουσιν και απαγγελλουσιν τω βασιλει συριας λεγοντες ανδρες εξεληλυθασιν εκ σαμαρειας

So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.

So these young men H5288 of the princes H8269 of the provinces H4082 came out H3318 (QalPerf) of the city, H5892 and the army H2428 which followed H310 them.

^[21:19] και μη εξελθατωσαν εκ της πολεως τα παιδαρια αρχοντων των χωρων και η δυναμις οπισω αυτων

Now these are the children of the province who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his city;

They said to me, “The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

Now in the days of Ahasuerus (this is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over one hundred twenty-seven provinces),

Now it came to pass in the days H3117 of Ahasuerus, H325 (this [is] Ahasuerus H325 which reigned, H4427 (QalActPtc) from India H1912 even unto Ethiopia, H3568 [over] an hundred H3967 and seven H7651 and twenty H6242 provinces: H4082)

in the third year of his reign, he made a feast for all his princes and his servants; the army of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces being before him.

Memucan answered before the king and the princes, “Vashti the queen has not done wrong to just the king, but also to all the princes, and to all the people who are in all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus.

for he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, that every man should rule his own house, speaking in the language of his own people.

και απεστειλεν εις πασαν την βασιλειαν κατα χωραν κατα την λεξιν αυτων ωστε ειναι φοβον αυτοις εν ταις οικιαις αυτων

Let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the citadel of Susa, to the women’s house, to the custody of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women. Let cosmetics be given them;

And let the king H4428 appoint H6485 (HiphImpf) officers H6496 in all the provinces H4082 of his kingdom, H4438 that they may gather together H6908 (QalImpf) all the fair H2896 H4758 young H5291 virgins H1330 unto Shushan H7800 the palace, H1002 to the house H1004 of the women, H802 unto the custody H3027 of Hege H1896 the king’s H4428 chamberlain, H5631 keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of the women; H802 and let their things for purification H8562 be given H5414 (QalInf) [them]:

και καταστησει ο βασιλευς κωμαρχας εν πασαις ταις χωραις της βασιλειας αυτου και επιλεξατωσαν κορασια παρθενικα καλα τω ειδει εις σουσαν την πολιν εις τον γυναικωνα και παραδοθητωσαν τω ευνουχω του βασιλεως τω φυλακι των γυναικων και δοθητω σμηγμα και η λοιπη επιμελεια

Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces, and gave gifts according to the king’s bounty.

Then the king H4428 made H6213 (QalImpf) a great H1419 feast H4960 unto all his princes H8269 and his servants, H5650 [even] Esther’s H635 feast; H4960 and he made H6213 (QalPerf) a release H2010 to the provinces, H4082 and gave H5414 (QalImpf) gifts, H4864 according to the state H3027 of the king. και εποιησεν ο βασιλευς ποτον πασι τοις φιλοις αυτου και ταις δυναμεσιν επι ημερας επτα και υψωσεν τους γαμους εσθηρ και αφεσιν εποιησεν τοις υπο την βασιλειαν αυτου

Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom, and their laws are different from other people’s. They don’t keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not for the king’s profit to allow them to remain.

And Haman H2001 said H559 (QalImpf) unto king H4428 Ahasuerus, H325 There is H3426 a certain H259 people H5971 scattered abroad H6340 (PualPtc) and dispersed H6504 (PualPtc) among the people H5971 in all the provinces H4082 of thy kingdom; H4438 and their laws H1881 [are] diverse H8138 (QalActPtc) from all people; H5971 neither keep H6213 (QalActPtc) they the king’s H4428 laws: H1881 therefore it [is] not for the king’s H4428 profit H7737 (QalActPtc) to suffer H3240 (HiphInf) them.

και ελαλησεν προς τον βασιλεα αρταξερξην λεγων υπαρχει εθνος διεσπαρμενον εν τοις εθνεσιν εν παση τη βασιλεια σου οι δε νομοι αυτων εξαλλοι παρα παντα τα εθνη των δε νομων του βασιλεως παρακουουσιν και ου συμφερει τω βασιλει εασαι αυτους

Then the king’s scribes were called in on the first month, on the thirteenth day of the month; and all that Haman commanded was written to the king’s local governors, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language. It was written in the name of King Ahasuerus, and it was sealed with the king’s ring.

Then were the king’s H4428 scribes H5608 (QalActPtc) called H7121 (NiphImpf) on the thirteenth H7969 H6240 day H3117 of the first H7223 month, H2320 and there was written H3789 (NiphImpf) according to all that Haman H2001 had commanded H6680 (PielPerf) unto the king’s H4428 lieutenants, H323 and to the governors H6346 that [were] over every province, H4082 and to the rulers H8269 of every people H5971 of every province H4082 according to the writing H3791 thereof, and [to] every people H5971 after their language; H3956 in the name H8034 of king H4428 Ahasuerus H325 was it written, H3789 (NiphPtc) and sealed H2856 (NiphPerf) with the king’s H4428 ring. και εκληθησαν οι γραμματεις του βασιλεως μηνι πρωτω τη τρισκαιδεκατη και εγραψαν ως επεταξεν αμαν τοις στρατηγοις και τοις αρχουσιν κατα πασαν χωραν απο ινδικης εως της αιθιοπιας ταις εκατον εικοσι επτα χωραις τοις τε αρχουσι των εθνων κατα την αυτων λεξιν δι αρταξερξου του βασιλεως

Letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to plunder their possessions.

And the letters H5612 were sent H7971 (NiphInf) by H3027 posts H7323 (QalPtc) into all the king’s H4428 provinces, H4082 to destroy, H8045 (HiphInf) to kill, H2026 (QalInf) and to cause to perish, H6 (PielInf) all Jews, H3064 both young H5288 and old, H2205 little children H2945 and women, H802 in one H259 day, H3117 [even] upon the thirteenth H7969 H6240 [day] of the twelfth H8147 H6240 month, H2320 which is the month H2320 Adar, H143 and [to take] the spoil H7998 of them for a prey. και απεσταλη δια βιβλιαφορων εις την αρταξερξου βασιλειαν αφανισαι το γενος των ιουδαιων εν ημερα μια μηνος δωδεκατου ος εστιν αδαρ και διαρπασαι τα υπαρχοντα αυτων

A copy of the letter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published to all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

The copy H6572 of the writing H3791 for a commandment H1881 to be given H5414 (NiphInf) in every province H4082 was published H1540 (QalPasPtc) unto all people, H5971 that they should be ready H6264 against that day. H3117

τα δε αντιγραφα των επιστολων εξετιθετο κατα χωραν και προσεταγη πασι τοις εθνεσιν ετοιμους ειναι εις την ημεραν ταυτην

In every province, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

And in every province, H4082 whithersoever H4725 the king’s H4428 commandment H1697 and his decree H1881 came, H5060 (HiphPtc) [there was] great H1419 mourning H60 among the Jews, H3064 and fasting, H6685 and weeping, H1065 and wailing; H4553 and many H7227 lay H3331 (HophImpf) in sackcloth H8242 and ashes. και εν παση χωρα ου εξετιθετο τα γραμματα κραυγη και κοπετος και πενθος μεγα τοις ιουδαιοις σακκον και σποδον εστρωσαν εαυτοις

“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”

τα εθνη παντα της βασιλειας γινωσκει οτι πας ανθρωπος η γυνη ος εισελευσεται προς τον βασιλεα εις την αυλην την εσωτεραν ακλητος ουκ εστιν αυτω σωτηρια πλην ω εκτεινει ο βασιλευς την χρυσην ραβδον ουτος σωθησεται καγω ου κεκλημαι εισελθειν προς τον βασιλεα εισιν αυται ημεραι τριακοντα

She said, “If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seems right to the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.

And said, H559 (QalImpf) If it please H2896 the king, H4428 and if I have found H4672 (QalPerf) favour H2580 in his sight, H6440 and the thing H1697 [seem] right H3787 (QalPerf) before H6440 the king, H4428 and I [be] pleasing H2896 in his eyes, H5869 let it be written H3789 (NiphImpf) to reverse H7725 (HiphInf) the letters H5612 devised H4284 by Haman H2001 the son H1121 of Hammedatha H4099 the Agagite, H91 which he wrote H3789 (QalPerf) to destroy H6 (PielInf) the Jews H3064 which [are] in all the king’s H4428 provinces: H4082

και ειπεν εσθηρ ει δοκει σοι και ευρον χαριν πεμφθητω αποστραφηναι τα γραμματα τα απεσταλμενα υπο αμαν τα γραφεντα απολεσθαι τους ιουδαιους οι εισιν εν τη βασιλεια σου

Then the king’s scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month Sivan, on the twenty-third day of the month; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the local governors, and the governors and princes of the provinces which are from India to Ethiopia, one hundred twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, and to the Jews in their writing, and in their language.

Then were the king’s H4428 scribes H5608 (QalActPtc) called H7121 (NiphImpf) at that time H6256 in the third H7992 month, H2320 that [is], the month H2320 Sivan, H5510 on the three H7969 and twentieth H6242 [day] thereof; and it was written H3789 (NiphImpf) according to all that Mordecai H4782 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) unto the Jews, H3064 and to the lieutenants, H323 and the deputies H6346 and rulers H8269 of the provinces H4082 which [are] from India H1912 unto Ethiopia, H3568 an hundred H3967 twenty H6242 and seven H7651 provinces, H4082 unto every province H4082 according to the writing H3791 thereof, and unto every people H5971 after their language, H3956 and to the Jews H3064 according to their writing, H3791 and according to their language. εκληθησαν δε οι γραμματεις εν τω πρωτω μηνι ος εστι νισα τριτη και εικαδι του αυτου ετους και εγραφη τοις ιουδαιοις οσα ενετειλατο τοις οικονομοις και τοις αρχουσιν των σατραπων απο της ινδικης εως της αιθιοπιας εκατον εικοσι επτα σατραπειαις κατα χωραν και χωραν κατα την εαυτων λεξιν

In those letters, the king granted the Jews who were in every city to gather themselves together and to defend their lives—to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish all the power of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to plunder their possessions,

Wherein the king H4428 granted H5414 (QalPerf) the Jews H3064 which [were] in every city H5892 to gather themselves together, H6950 (NiphInf) and to stand H5975 (QalInf) for their life, H5315 to destroy, H8045 (HiphInf) to slay, H2026 (QalInf) and to cause to perish, H6 (PielInf) all the power H2428 of the people H5971 and province H4082 that would assault H6696 (QalActPtc) them, [both] little ones H2945 and women, H802 and [to take] the spoil H7998 of them for a prey, H962 (QalInf)

ως επεταξεν αυτοις χρησθαι τοις νομοις αυτων εν παση πολει βοηθησαι τε αυτοις και χρησθαι τοις αντιδικοις αυτων και τοις αντικειμενοις αυτων ως βουλονται

on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.

Upon one H259 day H3117 in all the provinces H4082 of king H4428 Ahasuerus, H325 [namely], upon the thirteenth H7969 H6240 [day] of the twelfth H8147 H6240 month, H2320 which [is] the month H2320 Adar. H143

εν ημερα μια εν παση τη βασιλεια αρταξερξου τη τρισκαιδεκατη του δωδεκατου μηνος ος εστιν αδαρ

A copy of the letter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published to all the peoples, that the Jews should be ready for that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

The copy H6572 of the writing H3791 for a commandment H1881 to be given H5414 (NiphInf) in every province H4082 [was] published H1540 (QalPasPtc) unto all people, H5971 and that the Jews H3064 should be ready H6264 (Qere) H6259 against that day H3117 to avenge H5358 (NiphInf) themselves on their enemies. τα δε αντιγραφα εκτιθεσθωσαν οφθαλμοφανως εν παση τη βασιλεια ετοιμους τε ειναι παντας τους ιουδαιους εις ταυτην την ημεραν πολεμησαι αυτων τους υπεναντιους

In every province and in every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness, joy, a feast and a holiday. Many from among the peoples of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews had fallen on them.

And in every province, H4082 and in every city, H5892 whithersoever H4725 the king’s H4428 commandment H1697 and his decree H1881 came, H5060 (HiphPtc) the Jews H3064 had joy H8057 and gladness, H8342 a feast H4960 and a good H2896 day. H3117 And many H7227 of the people H5971 of the land H776 became Jews; H3054 (HithPtc) for the fear H6343 of the Jews H3064 fell H5307 (QalPerf) upon them.

κατα πολιν και χωραν ου αν εξετεθη το προσταγμα ου αν εξετεθη το εκθεμα χαρα και ευφροσυνη τοις ιουδαιοις κωθων και ευφροσυνη και πολλοι των εθνων περιετεμοντο και ιουδαιζον δια τον φοβον των ιουδαιων

the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, to lay hands on those who wanted to harm them. No one could withstand them, because the fear of them had fallen on all the people.

εν αυτη τη ημερα απωλοντο οι αντικειμενοι τοις ιουδαιοις ουδεις γαρ αντεστη φοβουμενος αυτους

All the princes of the provinces, the local governors, the governors, and those who did the king’s business helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.

And all the rulers H8269 of the provinces, H4082 and the lieutenants, H323 and the deputies, H6346 and officers H6213 (QalActPtc) H4399 of the king, H4428 helped H5375 (PielPtc) the Jews; H3064 because the fear H6343 of Mordecai H4782 fell H5307 (QalPerf) upon them.

For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces, for the man Mordecai grew greater and greater.

προσεπεσεν γαρ το προσταγμα του βασιλεως ονομασθηναι εν παση τη βασιλεια

The king said to Esther the queen, “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done.”

H4082 now what [is] thy petition? H7596 and it shall be granted H5414 (NiphImpf) thee: or what [is] thy request H1246 further? H5750 and it shall be done. H6213 (NiphImpf)

ειπεν δε ο βασιλευς προς εσθηρ απωλεσαν οι ιουδαιοι εν σουσοις τη πολει ανδρας πεντακοσιους εν δε τη περιχωρω πως οιει εχρησαντο τι ουν αξιοις ετι και εσται σοι

The other Jews who were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, defended their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy-five thousand of those who hated them; but they didn’t lay their hand on the plunder.

But the other H7605 Jews H3064 that [were] in the king’s H4428 provinces H4082 gathered themselves together, H6950 (NiphPerf) and stood H5975 (QalInf) for their lives, H5315 and had rest H5118 from their enemies, H341 (QalActPtc) and slew H2026 (QalInf) of their foes H8130 (QalActPtc) seventy H7657 and five H2568 thousand, H505 but they laid H7971 (QalPerf) not their hands H3027 on the prey, H961

οι δε λοιποι των ιουδαιων οι εν τη βασιλεια συνηχθησαν και εαυτοις εβοηθουν και ανεπαυσαντο απο των πολεμιων απωλεσαν γαρ αυτων μυριους πεντακισχιλιους τη τρισκαιδεκατη του αδαρ και ουδεν διηρπασαν

Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, both near and far,

εγραψεν δε μαρδοχαιος τους λογους τουτους εις βιβλιον και εξαπεστειλεν τοις ιουδαιοις οσοι ησαν εν τη αρταξερξου βασιλεια τοις εγγυς και τοις μακραν

and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor their memory perish from their offspring.^§

αι δε ημεραι αυται των φρουραι αχθησονται εις τον απαντα χρονον και το μνημοσυνον αυτων ου μη εκλιπη εκ των γενεων

He sent letters to all the Jews in the hundred twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus with words of peace and truth,

I also gathered silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got myself male and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men: musical instruments of all sorts.

συνηγαγον μοι και γε αργυριον και χρυσιον και περιουσιασμους βασιλεων και των χωρων εποιησα μοι αδοντας και αδουσας και εντρυφηματα υιων του ανθρωπου οινοχοον και οινοχοας

If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.

If thou seest H7200 (QalImpf) the oppression H6233 of the poor, H7326 (QalActPtc) and violent H1499 perverting of judgment H4941 and justice H6664 in a province, H4082 marvel H8539 (QalImpf) not at the matter: H2656 for [he that is] higher H1364 than the highest H1364 regardeth; H8104 (QalActPtc) and [there be] higher H1364 than they. ^[5:7] εαν συκοφαντιαν πενητος και αρπαγην κριματος και δικαιοσυνης ιδης εν χωρα μη θαυμασης επι τω πραγματι οτι υψηλος επανω υψηλου φυλαξαι και υψηλοι επ αυτους

How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!

How doth the city H5892 sit H3427 (QalPerf) solitary, H910 [that was] full H7227 of people! H5971 [how] is she become as a widow! H490 she [that was] great H7227 among the nations, H1471 [and] princess H8282 among the provinces, H4082 [how] is she become tributary! H4522

^[1:0] και εγενετο μετα το αιχμαλωτισθηναι τον ισραηλ και ιερουσαλημ ερημωθηναι εκαθισεν ιερεμιας κλαιων και εθρηνησεν τον θρηνον τουτον επι ιερουσαλημ και ειπεν ^[1:1] πως εκαθισεν μονη η πολις η πεπληθυμμενη λαων εγενηθη ως χηρα πεπληθυμμενη εν εθνεσιν αρχουσα εν χωραις εγενηθη εις φορον

Then the nations attacked him on every side from the provinces. They spread their net over him. He was taken in their pit.

και εδωκαν επ αυτον εθνη εκ χωρων κυκλοθεν και εξεπετασαν επ αυτον δικτυα αυτων εν διαφθορα αυτων συνελημφθη

I saw the vision. Now it was so, that when I saw, I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam. I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai.

And I saw H7200 (QalImpf) in a vision; H2377 and it came to pass, when I saw, H7200 (QalInf) that I [was] at Shushan H7800 [in] the palace, H1002 which [is] in the province H4082 of Elam; H5867 and I saw H7200 (QalImpf) in a vision, H2377 and I was by the river H180 of Ulai. H195

και ημην εν σουσοις τη βαρει η εστιν εν χωρα αιλαμ και ειδον εν οραματι και ημην επι του ουβαλ

In time of security he will come even on the fattest places of the province. He will do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers. He will scatter among them prey, plunder, and wealth. Yes, he will devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time.

He shall enter H935 (QalImpf) peaceably H7962 even upon the fattest places H4924 of the province; H4082 and he shall do H6213 (QalPerf) [that] which his fathers H1 have not done, H6213 (QalPerf) nor his fathers’ H1 fathers; H1 he shall scatter H967 (QalImpf) among them the prey, H961 and spoil, H7998 and riches: H7399 [yea], and he shall forecast H2803 (PielImpf) his devices H4284 against the strong holds, H4013 even for a time. και εν ευθηνια και εν πιοσιν χωραις ηξει και ποιησει α ουκ εποιησαν οι πατερες αυτου και οι πατερες των πατερων αυτου προνομην και σκυλα και υπαρξιν αυτοις διασκορπιει και επ αιγυπτον λογιειται λογισμους αυτου και εως καιρου
