Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them. We will do so, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.

They sent to me four times like this; and I answered them the same way.

and they send unto me, according to this word, four times, and I return them word according to this word.

These are the children of the province who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, everyone to his city,

These are sons of the province, those coming up of the captives of the removal that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed-and they turn back to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his city-

All the assembly of those who had come back out of the captivity made temporary shelters^§ and lived in the temporary shelters, for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.

And they make-all the assembly of the captives of the captivity-booths, and they sit in booths; for the sons of Israel had not done, from the days of Jeshua son of Nun, so unto that day, and there is very great joy.

and refused to obey. They weren’t mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and didn’t forsake them.

yea, they refuse to hearken, and have not remembered Thy wonders that Thou hast done with them, and harden their neck and appoint a head, to turn back to their service, in their rebellion; and Thou art a God of pardons, gracious, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and hast not forsaken them.

“Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you, cast your law behind their back, killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies.

‘And they are disobedient, and rebel against Thee, and cast Thy law behind their back, and Thy prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto Thee, and they do great despisings,

But after they had rest, they did evil again before you; therefore you left them in the hands of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them; yet when they returned and cried to you, you heard from heaven; and many times you delivered them according to your mercies,

‘And when they have rest, they turn back to do evil before Thee, and Thou dost leave them in the hand of their enemies, and they rule over them; and they turn back, and call Thee, and Thou from the heavens dost hear, and dost deliver them, according to Thy mercies, many times,

and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they were arrogant, and didn’t listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances (which if a man does, he shall live in them), turned their backs, stiffened their neck, and would not hear.

and dost testify against them, to bring them back unto Thy law; and they-they have acted proudly, and have not hearkened to Thy commands, and against Thy judgments have sinned,-which man doth and hath lived in them-and they give a refractory shoulder, and their neck have hardened, and have not hearkened.

For they have not served you in their kingdom, and in your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and rich land which you gave before them. They didn’t turn from their wicked works.

For they have not served H5647 (QalPerf) thee in their kingdom, H4438 and in thy great H7227 goodness H2898 that thou gavest H5414 (QalPerf) them, and in the large H7342 and fat H8082 land H776 which thou gavest H5414 (QalPerf) before H6440 them, neither turned H7725 (QalPerf) they from their wicked H7451 works. and they, in their kingdom, and in Thine abundant goodness, that Thou hast given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that Thou hast set before them, have not served Thee, nor turned back from their evil doings.

Then I commanded, and they cleansed the rooms. I brought into them the vessels of God’s house, with the meal offerings and the frankincense again.

and I speak, and they cleanse the chambers, and I bring back thither the vessels of the house of God with the present and the frankincense.

In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second women’s house, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines. She came in to the king no more, unless the king delighted in her, and she was called by name.

in the evening she hath gone in, and in the morning she hath turned back unto the second house of the women, unto the hand of Shaashgaz eunuch of the king, keeper of the concubines; she cometh not in any more unto the king except the king hath delighted in her, and she hath been called by name.

Then Mordecai asked them to return this answer to Esther: “Don’t think to yourself that you will escape in the king’s house any more than all the Jews.

and Mordecai speaketh to send back unto Esther: ‘Do not think in thy soul to be delivered in the house of the king, more than all the Jews,

Then Esther asked them to answer Mordecai,

And Esther speaketh to send back unto Mordecai:

Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered.

And Mordecai turneth back unto the gate of the king, and Haman hath been hastened unto his house mourning, and with covered head,

Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in front of me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

And the king hath turned back out of the garden of the house unto the house of the banquet of wine, and Haman is falling on the couch on which Esther is, and the king saith, ‘Also to subdue the queen with me in the house?’ the word hath gone out from the mouth of the king, and the face of Haman they have covered.

She said, “If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seems right to the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.

And said, H559 (QalImpf) If it please H2896 the king, H4428 and if I have found H4672 (QalPerf) favour H2580 in his sight, H6440 and the thing H1697 [seem] right H3787 (QalPerf) before H6440 the king, H4428 and I [be] pleasing H2896 in his eyes, H5869 let it be written H3789 (NiphImpf) to reverse H7725 (HiphInf) the letters H5612 devised H4284 by Haman H2001 the son H1121 of Hammedatha H4099 the Agagite, H91 which he wrote H3789 (QalPerf) to destroy H6 (PielInf) the Jews H3064 which [are] in all the king’s H4428 provinces: H4082

and saith, ‘If to the king it be good, and if I have found grace before him, and the thing hath been right before the king, and I be good in his eyes, let it be written to bring back the letters-a device of Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite-that he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all provinces of the king,

Write also to the Jews as it pleases you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring; for the writing which is written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring, may not be reversed by any man.”

Write H3789 (QalImpv) ye also for the Jews, H3064 as it liketh H2896 you, H5869 in the king’s H4428 name, H8034 and seal H2856 (QalImpv) [it] with the king’s H4428 ring: H2885 for the writing H3791 which is written H3789 (NiphPtc) in the king’s H4428 name, H8034 and sealed H2856 (NiphPtc) with the king’s H4428 ring, H2885 may no man reverse. and ye, write ye for the Jews, as it is good in your eyes, in the name of the king, and seal with the signet of the king-for the writing that is written in the name of the king, and sealed with the signet of the king, there is none to turn back.’

but when this became known to the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked plan, which he had planned against the Jews, should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

But when [Esther] came H935 (QalInf) before H6440 the king, H4428 he commanded H559 (QalPerf) by letters H5612 that his wicked H7451 device, H4284 which he devised H2803 (QalPerf) against the Jews, H3064 should return H7725 (QalImpf) upon his own head, H7218 and that he and his sons H1121 should be hanged H8518 (QalPerf) on the gallows. and in her coming in before the king, he said with the letter, ‘Let his evil device that he devised against the Jews turn back upon his own head,’ and they have hanged him and his sons on the tree,

He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”

And said, H559 (QalImpf) Naked H6174 came I out H3318 (QalPerf) of my mother’s H517 womb, H990 and naked H6174 shall I return H7725 (QalImpf) thither: the Lord H3068 gave, H5414 (QalPerf) and the Lord H3068 hath taken away; H3947 (QalPerf) blessed H1288 (PualPtc) be the name H8034 of the Lord. and he saith, ‘Naked came I forth from the womb of my mother, and naked I turn back thither: Jehovah hath given and Jehovah hath taken: let the name of Jehovah be blessed.’

Please return. Let there be no injustice. Yes, return again. My cause is righteous.

Return, H7725 (QalImpv) I pray you, let it not be iniquity; H5766 yea, return again, H7725 (QalImpv) my righteousness H6664 [is] in it.

Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye will no more see good.

O remember H2142 (QalImpv) that my life H2416 [is] wind: H7307 mine eye H5869 shall no more H7725 (QalImpf) see H7200 (QalInf) good. H2896

Remember Thou that my life is a breath, Mine eye turneth not back to see good.

He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more.

He shall return H7725 (QalImpf) no more to his house, H1004 neither shall his place H4725 know H5234 (HiphImpf) him any more.

He turneth not again to his house, Nor doth his place discern him again.

Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’

Behold, he taketh away, H2862 (QalImpf) who can hinder H7725 (HiphImpf) him? who will say H559 (QalImpf) unto him, What doest H6213 (QalImpf) thou?

Lo, He snatches away, who bringeth it back? Who saith unto Him, ‘What dost Thou?’

“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.

[If] God H433 will not withdraw H7725 (HiphImpf) his anger, H639 the proud H7293 helpers H5826 (QalActPtc) do stoop H7817 (QalPerf) under him.

God doth not turn back His anger, Under Him bowed have proud helpers.

He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

He will not suffer H5414 (QalImpf) me to take H7725 (HiphInf) my breath, H7307 but filleth H7646 (HiphImpf) me with bitterness. H4472

He permitteth me not to refresh my spirit, But filleth me with bitter things.

Remember, I beg you, that you have fashioned me as clay. Will you bring me into dust again?

Remember, H2142 (QalImpv) I beseech thee, that thou hast made H6213 (QalPerf) me as the clay; H2563 and wilt thou bring H7725 me into dust H6083 again? H7725 (HiphImpf)

Remember, I pray Thee, That as clay Thou hast made me, And unto dust Thou dost bring me back.

If my head is held high, you hunt me like a lion. Again you show yourself powerful to me.

For it increaseth. H1342 (QalImpf) Thou huntest H6679 (QalImpf) me as a fierce lion: H7826 and again H7725 (QalImpf) thou shewest thyself marvellous H6381 (HithImpf) upon me.

And it riseth-as a lion Thou huntest me. And Thou turnest back- Thou shewest Thyself wonderful in me.

before I go where I will not return from, to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;

Before I go, and return not, Unto a land of darkness and death-shade,

If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him?

If He pass on, and shut up, and assemble, Who then dost reverse it?

“Oh that you would hide me in Sheol,° that you would keep me secret until your wrath is past, that you would appoint me a set time and remember me!

Job 14:13 Sheol is the place of the dead.

O that H5414 (QalImpf) thou wouldest hide H6845 (HiphImpf) me in the grave, H7585 that thou wouldest keep me secret, H5641 (HiphImpf) until thy wrath H639 be past, H7725 (QalInf) that thou wouldest appoint H7896 (QalImpf) me a set time, H2706 and remember H2142 (QalImpf) me!

O that in Sheol Thou wouldest conceal me, Hide me till the turning of Thine anger, Set for me a limit, and remember me.

that you turn your spirit against God, and let such words go out of your mouth?

That thou turnest H7725 (HiphImpf) thy spirit H7307 against God, H410 and lettest [such] words H4405 go out H3318 (HiphPerf) of thy mouth? H6310

For thou turnest against God thy spirit? And hast brought out words from thy mouth:

He doesn’t believe that he will return out of darkness. He is waited for by the sword.

He believeth H539 (HiphImpf) not that he shall return H7725 (QalInf) out of darkness, H2822 and he is waited H6822 (QalPasPtc) for of the sword. H2719

He believeth not to return from darkness, And watched is he for the sword.

For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.

When a few years do come, Then a path I return not do I go.

But as for you all, come back. I will not find a wise man among you.

Return, and come in, I pray you, And I find not among you a wise man.

“Therefore my thoughts answer me, even by reason of my haste that is in me.

Therefore my thoughts cause me to answer, And because of my sensations in me.

His children will seek the favor of the poor. His hands will give back his wealth.

His children H1121 shall seek to please H7521 (PielImpf) the poor, H1800 and his hands H3027 shall restore H7725 (HiphImpf) their goods. H202

His sons do the poor oppress, And his hands give back his wealth.

He will restore that for which he labored, and will not swallow it down. He will not rejoice according to the substance that he has gotten.

That which he laboured H3022 for shall he restore, H7725 (HiphPtc) and shall not swallow [it] down: H1104 (QalImpf) according to [his] substance H2428 [shall] the restitution H8545 [be], and he shall not rejoice H5965 (QalImpf) [therein].

He is giving back what he laboured for, And doth not consume it; As a bulwark is his exchange, and he exults not.

If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

If thou return H7725 (QalImpf) to the Almighty, H7706 thou shalt be built up, H1129 (NiphImpf) thou shalt put away H7368 iniquity H5766 far H7368 (HiphImpf) from thy tabernacles. H168

If thou dost return unto the Mighty Thou art built up, Thou puttest iniquity far from thy tents.

But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does.

And He is in one mind, And who doth turn Him back? And His soul hath desired-and He doth it.

For I know that you will bring me to death, to the house appointed for all living.

For I have known To death Thou dost bring me back, And to the house appointed for all living.

what then will I do when God rises up? When he visits, what will I answer him?

What then shall I do H6213 (QalImpf) when God H410 riseth up? H6965 (QalImpf) and when he visiteth, H6485 (QalImpf) what shall I answer H7725 (HiphImpf) him?

Then what do I do when God ariseth? And when He doth inspect, What do I answer Him?

for he has not directed his words against me; neither will I answer him with your speeches.

Now he hath not directed H6186 (QalPerf) [his] words H4405 against me: neither will I answer H7725 (HiphImpf) him with your speeches. H561

And he hath not set in array words for me, And with your sayings I do not answer him.

If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.

If thou art able-answer me, Set in array before me-station thyself.

His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.

Fresher is his flesh than a child’s, He returneth to the days of his youth.

He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.

He maketh supplication unto God, And He accepteth him. And he seeth His face with shouting, And He returneth to man His righteousness.

to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
