They said, “We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is today with our father, and one is no more.”

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

ιδοντες δε οι ανθρωποι οτι εισηχθησαν εις τον οικον ιωσηφ ειπαν δια το αργυριον το αποστραφεν εν τοις μαρσιπποις ημων την αρχην ημεις εισαγομεθα του συκοφαντησαι ημας και επιθεσθαι ημιν του λαβειν ημας εις παιδας και τους ονους ημων

They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.

οι δε ειπαν υγιαινει ο παις σου ο πατηρ ημων ετι ζη και ειπεν ευλογητος ο ανθρωπος εκεινος τω θεω και κυψαντες προσεκυνησαν αυτω

They said to him, “Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants that they should do such a thing!

οι δε ειπον αυτω ινα τι λαλει ο κυριος κατα τα ρηματα ταυτα μη γενοιτο τοις παισιν σου ποιησαι κατα το ρημα τουτο

With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord’s slaves.”

παρ ω αν ευρεθη το κονδυ των παιδων σου αποθνησκετω και ημεις δε εσομεθα παιδες τω κυριω ημων

He said, “Now also let it be according to your words. He with whom it is found will be my slave; and you will be blameless.”

ο δε ειπεν και νυν ως λεγετε ουτως εσται ο ανθρωπος παρ ω αν ευρεθη το κονδυ αυτος εσται μου παις υμεις δε εσεσθε καθαροι

Judah said, “What will we tell my lord? What will we speak? How will we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants. Behold, we are my lord’s slaves, both we and he also in whose hand the cup is found.”

ειπεν δε ιουδας τι αντερουμεν τω κυριω η τι λαλησωμεν η τι δικαιωθωμεν ο δε θεος ευρεν την αδικιαν των παιδων σου ιδου εσμεν οικεται τω κυριω ημων και ημεις και παρ ω ευρεθη το κονδυ

He said, “Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he will be my slave; but as for you, go up in peace to your father.”

Then Judah came near to him, and said, “Oh, my lord, please let your servant speak a word in my lord’s ears, and don’t let your anger burn against your servant; for you are even as Pharaoh.

When we came up to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

Now therefore when I come to your servant my father, and the boy is not with us; since his life is bound up in the boy’s life;

νυν ουν εαν εισπορευωμαι προς τον παιδα σου πατερα δε ημων και το παιδαριον μη η μεθ ημων η δε ψυχη αυτου εκκρεμαται εκ της τουτου ψυχης

it will happen, when he sees that the boy is no more, that he will die. Your servants will bring down the gray hairs of your servant, our father, with sorrow to Sheol.°

Genesis 44:31 Sheol is the place of the dead.

ο γαρ παις σου εκδεδεκται το παιδιον παρα του πατρος λεγων εαν μη αγαγω αυτον προς σε και στησω αυτον εναντιον σου ημαρτηκως εσομαι προς τον πατερα πασας τας ημερας

Now therefore, please let your servant stay instead of the boy, my lord’s slave; and let the boy go up with his brothers.

The report of it was heard in Pharaoh’s house, saying, “Joseph’s brothers have come.” It pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.

και διεβοηθη η φωνη εις τον οικον φαραω λεγοντες ηκασιν οι αδελφοι ιωσηφ εχαρη δε φαραω και η θεραπεια αυτου

that you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:’ that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.”

Pharaoh said to his brothers, “What is your occupation?” They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers.”

They also said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.”

Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land won’t be desolate.”

ινα ουν μη αποθανωμεν εναντιον σου και η γη ερημωθη κτησαι ημας και την γην ημων αντι αρτων και εσομεθα ημεις και η γη ημων παιδες φαραω δος σπερμα ινα σπειρωμεν και ζωμεν και μη αποθανωμεν και η γη ουκ ερημωθησεται

They said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”

Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel.

Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, all the elders of the land of Egypt,

His brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

και ελθοντες προς αυτον ειπαν οιδε ημεις σοι οικεται

Moses said to Yahweh, “O Lord,^§ I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.”

No straw is given to your servants, and they tell us, ‘Make brick!’ and behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.”

αχυρον ου διδοται τοις οικεταις σου και την πλινθον ημιν λεγουσιν ποιειν και ιδου οι παιδες σου μεμαστιγωνται αδικησεις ουν τον λαον σου

They said to them, “May Yahweh look at you and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us!”

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded. Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

Moses and Aaron did so, as Yahweh commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

The river will swarm with frogs, which will go up and come into your house, and into your bedroom, and on your bed, and into the house of your servants, and on your people, and into your ovens, and into your kneading troughs.

^[7:28] και εξερευξεται ο ποταμος βατραχους και αναβαντες εισελευσονται εις τους οικους σου και εις τα ταμιεια των κοιτωνων σου και επι των κλινων σου και εις τους οικους των θεραποντων σου και του λαου σου και εν τοις φυραμασιν σου και εν τοις κλιβανοις σου

The frogs shall come up both on you, and on your people, and on all your servants.” ’ ”

Moses said to Pharaoh, “I give you the honor of setting the time that I should pray for you, and for your servants, and for your people, that the frogs be destroyed from you and your houses, and remain in the river only.”

^[8:5] ειπεν δε μωυσης προς φαραω ταξαι προς με ποτε ευξωμαι περι σου και περι των θεραποντων σου και περι του λαου σου αφανισαι τους βατραχους απο σου και απο του λαου σου και εκ των οικιων υμων πλην εν τω ποταμω υπολειφθησονται

The frogs shall depart from you, and from your houses, and from your servants, and from your people. They shall remain in the river only.”

Else, if you will not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you, and on your servants, and on your people, and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground they are on.

Else, if thou wilt not let my people H5971 go, H7971 (PielPtc) behold, I will send H7971 (HiphPtc) swarms H6157 [of flies] upon thee, and upon thy servants, H5650 and upon thy people, H5971 and into thy houses: H1004 and the houses H1004 of the Egyptians H4714 shall be full H4390 (QalPerf) of swarms H6157 [of flies], and also the ground H127 whereon they [are].

^[8:17] εαν δε μη βουλη εξαποστειλαι τον λαον μου ιδου εγω επαποστελλω επι σε και επι τους θεραποντας σου και επι τον λαον σου και επι τους οικους υμων κυνομυιαν και πλησθησονται αι οικιαι των αιγυπτιων της κυνομυιης και εις την γην εφ ης εισιν επ αυτης

Yahweh did so; and there came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses. In all the land of Egypt the land was corrupted by reason of the swarms of flies.

And the Lord H3068 did H6213 (QalImpf) so; and there came H935 (QalImpf) a grievous H3515 swarm H6157 [of flies] into the house H1004 of Pharaoh, H6547 and [into] his servants’ H5650 houses, H1004 and into all the land H776 of Egypt: H4714 the land H776 was corrupted H7843 (NiphImpf) by reason H6440 of the swarm H6157 [of flies].

^[8:20] εποιησεν δε κυριος ουτως και παρεγενετο η κυνομυια πληθος εις τους οικους φαραω και εις τους οικους των θεραποντων αυτου και εις πασαν την γην αιγυπτου και εξωλεθρευθη η γη απο της κυνομυιης

Moses said, “Behold, I am going out from you. I will pray to Yahweh that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow; only don’t let Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to Yahweh.”

And Moses H4872 said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, I go out H3318 (QalActPtc) from thee, and I will intreat H6279 (HiphPerf) the Lord H3068 that the swarms H6157 [of flies] may depart H5493 (QalPerf) from Pharaoh, H6547 from his servants, H5650 and from his people, H5971 to morrow: H4279 but H7535 let not Pharaoh H6547 deal deceitfully H2048 (PielInf) any more H3254 (HiphImpf) in not H1115 letting the people H5971 go H7971 (PielInf) to sacrifice H2076 (QalInf) to the Lord. ^[8:25] ειπεν δε μωυσης οδε εγω εξελευσομαι απο σου και ευξομαι προς τον θεον και απελευσεται η κυνομυια απο σου και απο των θεραποντων σου και του λαου σου αυριον μη προσθης ετι φαραω εξαπατησαι του μη εξαποστειλαι τον λαον θυσαι κυριω

Yahweh did according to the word of Moses, and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. There remained not one.

And the Lord H3068 did H6213 (QalImpf) according to the word H1697 of Moses; H4872 and he removed H5493 (HiphImpf) the swarms H6157 [of flies] from Pharaoh, H6547 from his servants, H5650 and from his people; H5971 there remained H7604 (NiphPerf) not one. H259

^[8:27] εποιησεν δε κυριος καθαπερ ειπεν μωυσης και περιειλεν την κυνομυιαν απο φαραω και των θεραποντων αυτου και του λαου αυτου και ου κατελειφθη ουδεμια

For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.

For I will at this time H6471 send H7971 (QalActPtc) all my plagues H4046 upon thine heart, H3820 and upon thy servants, H5650 and upon thy people; H5971 that thou mayest know H3045 (QalImpf) that [there is] none like me in all the earth. H776

εν τω γαρ νυν καιρω εγω εξαποστελλω παντα τα συναντηματα μου εις την καρδιαν σου και των θεραποντων σου και του λαου σου ιν ειδης οτι ουκ εστιν ως εγω αλλος εν παση τη γη

Those who feared Yahweh’s word among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their livestock flee into the houses.

He that feared H3373 the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 among the servants H5650 of Pharaoh H6547 made his servants H5650 and his cattle H4735 flee H5127 (HiphPerf) into the houses: H1004

ο φοβουμενος το ρημα κυριου των θεραποντων φαραω συνηγαγεν τα κτηνη αυτου εις τους οικους

Whoever didn’t respect Yahweh’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field.

And he that regarded H7760 (QalPerf) H3820 not the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 left H5800 (QalImpf) his servants H5650 and his cattle H4735 in the field. H7704

ος δε μη προσεσχεν τη διανοια εις το ρημα κυριου αφηκεν τα κτηνη εν τοις πεδιοις

But as for you and your servants, I know that you don’t yet fear Yahweh God.”

But as for thee and thy servants, H5650 I know H3045 (QalPerf) that ye will not yet fear H3372 (QalImpf) H6440 the Lord H3068 God. H430

και συ και οι θεραποντες σου επισταμαι οτι ουδεπω πεφοβησθε τον κυριον

When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders had ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.

And when Pharaoh H6547 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that the rain H4306 and the hail H1259 and the thunders H6963 were ceased, H2308 (QalPerf) he sinned H2398 (QalInf) yet more, H3254 (HiphImpf) and hardened H3513 (HiphImpf) his heart, H3820 he and his servants. H5650

ιδων δε φαραω οτι πεπαυται ο υετος και η χαλαζα και αι φωναι προσεθετο του αμαρτανειν και εβαρυνεν αυτου την καρδιαν και των θεραποντων αυτου

Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs among them;

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Go H935 (QalImpv) in unto Pharaoh: H6547 for I have hardened H3513 (HiphPerf) his heart, H3820 and the heart H3820 of his servants, H5650 that I might shew H7896 (QalInf) these my signs H226 before H7130 him:

ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην λεγων εισελθε προς φαραω εγω γαρ εσκληρυνα αυτου την καρδιαν και των θεραποντων αυτου ινα εξης επελθη τα σημεια ταυτα επ αυτους

Your houses shall be filled, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’ ” He turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

And they shall fill H4390 (QalPerf) thy houses, H1004 and the houses H1004 of all thy servants, H5650 and the houses H1004 of all the Egyptians; H4714 which neither thy fathers, H1 nor thy fathers’ H1 fathers H1 have seen, H7200 (QalPerf) since the day H3117 that they were upon the earth H127 unto this day. H3117 And he turned H6437 (QalImpf) himself, and went out H3318 (QalImpf) from Pharaoh. H6547

και πλησθησονται σου αι οικιαι και αι οικιαι των θεραποντων σου και πασαι αι οικιαι εν παση γη των αιγυπτιων α ουδεποτε εωρακασιν οι πατερες σου ουδε οι προπαπποι αυτων αφ ης ημερας γεγονασιν επι της γης εως της ημερας ταυτης και εκκλινας μωυσης εξηλθεν απο φαραω

Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve Yahweh, their God. Don’t you yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”

And Pharaoh’s H6547 servants H5650 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, How long shall this man be a snare H4170 unto us? let the men H582 go, H7971 (PielImpv) that they may serve H5647 (QalImpf) the Lord H3068 their God: H430 knowest H3045 (QalImpf) thou not yet H2962 that Egypt H4714 is destroyed? H6 (QalPerf)

και λεγουσιν οι θεραποντες φαραω προς αυτον εως τινος εσται τουτο ημιν σκωλον εξαποστειλον τους ανθρωπους οπως λατρευσωσιν τω θεω αυτων η ειδεναι βουλει οτι απολωλεν αιγυπτος
