The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, “I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.’ ”

And the king riseth by night, and saith unto his servants, ‘Let me declare, I pray you, to you that which the Aramaeans have done to us; they have known that we are famished, and they are gone out from the camp to be hidden in the field, saying, When they come out from the city, then we catch them alive, and unto the city we enter.’

Now Elisha had spoken to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for Yahweh has called for a famine. It will also come on the land for seven years.”

And Elisha spake unto the woman whose son he had revived, saying, ‘Rise and go, thou and thy household, and sojourn where thou dost sojourn, for Jehovah hath called for a famine, and also, it is coming unto the land seven years.’

Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. He was told, “The man of God has come here.”

And Elisha cometh in to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram is sick, and it is declared to him, saying, ‘The man of God hath come hither.’

So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him and said, “Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’ ”

And Hazael goeth to meet him, and taketh a present in his hand, even of every good thing of Damascus, a burden of forty camels, and he cometh in and standeth before him, and saith, ‘Thy son Ben-Hadad, king of Aram, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Do I revive from this sickness?’

Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” He answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.”

So he departed H3212 (QalImpf) from Elisha, H477 and came H935 (QalImpf) to his master; H113 who said H559 (QalImpf) to him, What said H559 (QalPerf) Elisha H477 to thee? And he answered, H559 (QalImpf) He told H559 (QalPerf) me [that] thou shouldest surely H2421 (QalInf) recover. H2421 (QalImpf)

And he goeth from Elisha, and cometh in unto his lord, and he saith unto him, ‘What said Elisha to thee?’ and he saith, ‘He said to me, Thou dost certainly recover.’

When you come there, find Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and make him rise up from among his brothers, and take him to an inner room.

and thou hast gone in there, and see thou there Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, and thou hast gone in, and caused him to rise out of the midst of his brethren, and brought him in to the inner part of an inner-chamber,

When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting. Then he said, “I have a message for you, captain.” Jehu said, “To which one of us?” He said, “To you, O captain.”

and cometh in, and lo, chiefs of the force are sitting, and he saith, ‘I have a word unto thee, O chief!’ and Jehu saith, ‘Unto which of all of us?’ and he saith, ‘Unto thee, O chief.’

He arose, and went into the house. Then he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I have anointed you king over the people of Yahweh, even over Israel.

And he riseth and cometh in to the house, and he poureth the oil on his head, and saith to him, ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I have anointed thee for king unto the people of Jehovah, unto Israel,

When Jehu came out to the servants of his lord and one said to him, “Is all well? Why did this madman come to you?” He said to them, “You know the man and how he talks.”

Then Jehu H3058 came forth H3318 (QalPerf) to the servants H5650 of his lord: H113 and [one] said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, [Is] all well? And Jehu hath gone out unto the servants of his lord, and one saith to him, ‘Is there peace? wherefore came this madman unto thee?’ and he saith unto them, ‘Ye have known the man and his talk.’

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company.” Joram said, “Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’ ”

So one went on horseback to meet him, and said, “the king says, ‘Is it peace?’ ” Jehu said, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me!” The watchman said, “The messenger came to them, but he isn’t coming back.”

and the rider on the horse goeth to meet him, and saith, ‘Thus said the king, Is there peace?’ and Jehu saith, ‘What-to thee and to peace? turn round behind me.’ And the watchman declareth, saying, ‘The messenger came unto them, and he hath not returned.’

Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them and said, “The king says, ‘Is it peace?’ ” Jehu answered, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me!”

And he sendeth a second rider on a horse, and he cometh in unto them, and saith, ‘Thus said the king, Is there peace?’ and Jehu saith, ‘What-to thee and to peace? turn round behind me.’

The watchman said, “He came to them, and isn’t coming back. The driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”

And the watchman H6822 (QalActPtc) told, H5046 (HiphImpf) saying, H559 (QalInf) He came H935 (QalPerf) even unto them, and cometh not again: H7725 (QalPerf) and the driving H4491 [is] like the driving H4491 of Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Nimshi; H5250 for he driveth H5090 (QalImpf) furiously. H7697

And the watchman declareth, saying, ‘He came unto them, and he hath not returned, and the driving is like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi, for with madness he driveth.’

When Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and adorned her head, and looked out at the window.

And when Jehu H3058 was come H935 (QalImpf) to Jezreel, H3157 Jezebel H348 heard H8085 (QalPerf) [of it]; and she painted H7760 (QalImpf) H6320 her face, H5869 and tired H3190 (HiphImpf) her head, H7218 and looked out H8259 (HiphImpf) at a window. H2474

And Jehu cometh in to Jezreel, and Jezebel hath heard, and putteth her eyes in paint and maketh right her head, and looketh out through the window.

As Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, “Do you come in peace, Zimri, you murderer of your master?”

And as Jehu H3058 entered in H935 (QalPerf) at the gate, H8179 she said, H559 (QalImpf) [Had] Zimri H2174 peace, H7965 who slew H2026 (QalActPtc) his master? H113

And Jehu hath come into the gate, and she saith, ‘Was there peace to Zimri-slayer of his lord?’

When he had come in, he ate and drank. Then he said, “See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king’s daughter.”

And when he was come in, H935 (QalImpf) he did eat H398 (QalImpf) and drink, H8354 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) Go, H6485 (QalImpv) see now this cursed H779 (QalPasPtc) [woman], and bury H6912 (QalImpv) her: for she [is] a king’s H4428 daughter. H1323

And he cometh in, and eateth, and drinketh, and saith, ‘Look after, I pray you, this cursed one, and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.’

“Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor,

Now as soon as this letter H5612 cometh H935 (QalInf) to you, seeing your master’s H113 sons H1121 [are] with you, and [there are] with you chariots H7393 and horses, H5483 a fenced H4013 city H5892 also, and armour; H5402

‘And now, at the coming in of this letter unto you, and with you are sons of your lord, and with you are the chariots and the horses, and a fenced city, and the armour,

Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, “If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men who are your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time.” Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up.

Then he wrote H3789 (QalImpf) a letter H5612 the second time H8145 to them, saying, H559 (QalInf) If ye [be] mine, and [if] ye will hearken H8085 (QalActPtc) unto my voice, H6963 take H3947 (QalImpv) ye the heads H7218 of the men H582 your master’s H113 sons, H1121 and come H935 (QalImpv) to me to Jezreel H3157 by to morrow H4279 this time. H6256 Now the king’s H4428 sons, H1121 [being] seventy H7657 persons, H376 [were] with the great men H1419 of the city, H5892 which brought them up. H1431 (PielPtc)

And he writeth unto them a letter a second time, saying, ‘If ye are for me, and to my voice are hearkening, take the heads of the men-the sons of your lord, and come unto me about this time to-morrow, to Jezreel;’ and the sons of the king are seventy men, with the great ones of the city those bringing them up.

When the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and killed them, even seventy people, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel.

And it came to pass, when the letter H5612 came H935 (QalInf) to them, that they took H3947 (QalImpf) the king’s H4428 sons, H1121 and slew H7819 (QalImpf) seventy H7657 persons, H376 and put H7760 (QalImpf) their heads H7218 in baskets, H1731 and sent H7971 (QalImpf) him [them] to Jezreel. H3157

And it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the letter unto them, that they take the sons of the king, and slaughter seventy men, and put their heads in baskets, and send unto him to Jezreel,

A messenger came and told him, “They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.” He said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.”

And there came H935 (QalImpf) a messenger, H4397 and told H5046 (HiphImpf) him, saying, H559 (QalInf) They have brought H935 (HiphPerf) the heads H7218 of the king’s H4428 sons. and the messenger cometh in, and declareth to him, saying, ‘They have brought in the heads of the sons of the king,’ and he saith, ‘Make them two heaps at the opening of the gate till the morning.’

He arose and departed, and went to Samaria. As he was at the shearing house of the shepherds on the way,

And he riseth, and cometh in and goeth to Samaria; he is at the shepherds’ shearing-house in the way,

When he came to Samaria, he struck all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed them, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke to Elijah.

And when he came H935 (QalImpf) to Samaria, H8111 he slew H5221 (HiphImpf) all that remained H7604 (NiphPtc) unto Ahab H256 in Samaria, H8111 till he had destroyed H8045 (HiphPerf) him, according to the saying H1697 of the Lord, H3068 which he spake H1696 (PielPerf) to Elijah. H452

And he cometh in to Samaria, and smiteth all those left to Ahab in Samaria, till his destroying him, according to the word of Jehovah that He spake unto Elisha.

Jehu sent through all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that didn’t come. They came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was filled from one end to another.

And Jehu H3058 sent H7971 (QalImpf) through all Israel: H3478 and all the worshippers H5647 (QalActPtc) of Baal H1168 came, H935 (QalImpf) so that there was not a man H376 left H7604 (NiphPerf) that came H935 (QalPerf) not. And they came H935 (QalImpf) into the house H1004 of Baal; H1168 and the house H1004 of Baal H1168 was full H4390 (NiphImpf) from one end H6310 to another. H6310

And Jehu sendeth into all Israel, and all the servants of Baal come in, and there hath not been left a man who hath not come in; and they come in to the house of Baal, and the house of Baal is full-mouth to mouth.

Jehu went with Jehonadab the son of Rechab into the house of Baal. Then he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search, and see that none of the servants of Yahweh are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.”

And Jehu H3058 went, H935 (QalImpf) and Jehonadab H3082 the son H1121 of Rechab, H7394 into the house H1004 of Baal, H1168 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto the worshippers H5647 (QalActPtc) of Baal, H1168 Search, H2664 (PielImpv) and look H7200 (QalImpv) that there be H3426 here with you none of the servants H5650 of the Lord, H3068 but the worshippers H5647 (QalActPtc) of Baal H1168 only.

And Jehu goeth in, and Jehonadab son of Rechab, to the house of Baal, and saith to the servants of Baal, ‘Search and see, lest there be here with you of the servants of Jehovah-but, the servants of Baal by themselves.’

So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men outside, and said, “If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he who lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him.”

And when they went in H935 (QalImpf) to offer H6213 (QalInf) sacrifices H2077 and burnt offerings, H5930 Jehu H3058 appointed H7760 (QalPerf) fourscore H8084 men H376 without, H2351 and said, H559 (QalImpf) [If] any H376 of the men H582 whom I have brought H935 (HiphPtc) into your hands H3027 escape, H4422 (NiphImpf) [he that letteth him go], his life H5315 [shall be] for the life H5315 of him.

And they come in to make sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and Jehu hath set for himself in an out-place eighty men, and saith, ‘The man who letteth escape any of the men whom I am bringing in unto your hand-his soul for his soul.’

As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, “Go in and kill them! Let no one escape.” So they struck them with the edge of the sword. The guard and the captains threw the bodies out, and went to the inner shrine of the house of Baal.

And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of offering H6213 (QalInf) the burnt offering, H5930 that Jehu H3058 said H559 (QalImpf) to the guard H7323 (QalPtc) and to the captains, H7991 Go in, H935 (QalImpv) [and] slay H5221 (HiphImpv) them; let none H376 come forth. H3318 (QalImpf) And they smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them with the edge H6310 of the sword; H2719 and the guard H7323 (QalPtc) and the captains H7991 cast [them] out, H7993 (HiphImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) to the city H5892 of the house H1004 of Baal. And it cometh to pass at his finishing to make the burnt-offering, that Jehu saith to the runners, and to the captains, ‘Go in, smite them, let none come out;’ and they smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the runners and the captains cast them out; and they go unto the city, to the house of Baal,

In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the captains over hundreds of the Carites and of the guard, and brought them to him into Yahweh’s house; and he made a covenant with them, and made a covenant with them in Yahweh’s house, and showed them the king’s son.

And the seventh H7637 year H8141 Jehoiada H3077 sent H7971 (QalPerf) and fetched H3947 (QalImpf) the rulers H8269 over hundreds, H3967 with the captains H3746 and the guard, H7323 (QalPtc) and brought H935 (HiphImpf) them to him into the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and made H3772 (QalImpf) a covenant H1285 with them, and took an oath H7650 (HiphImpf) of them in the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and shewed H7200 (HiphImpf) them the king’s H4428 son. And in the seventh year hath Jehoiada sent and taketh the heads of the hundreds, of the executioners and of the runners, and bringeth them in unto him, to the house of Jehovah, and maketh with them a covenant, and causeth them to swear in the house of Jehovah, and sheweth them the son of the king,

He commanded them, saying, “This is what you must do: a third of you, who come in on the Sabbath, shall be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;

And he commanded H6680 (PielImpf) them, saying, H559 (QalInf) This [is] the thing H1697 that ye shall do; H6213 (QalImpf) A third part H7992 of you that enter in H935 (QalActPtc) on the sabbath H7676 shall even be keepers H8104 (QalActPtc) of the watch H4931 of the king’s H4428 house; H1004

and commandeth them, saying, ‘This is the thing that ye do; The third of you are going in on the sabbath, and keepers of the charge of the house of the king,

You shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he who comes within the ranks, let him be slain. Be with the king when he goes out, and when he comes in.”

And ye shall compass H5362 (HiphPerf) the king H4428 round about, H5439 every man H376 with his weapons H3627 in his hand: H3027 and he that cometh H935 (QalActPtc) within the ranges, H7713 let him be slain: H4191 (HophImpf) and be ye with the king H4428 as he goeth out H3318 (QalInf) and as he cometh in. H935 (QalInf)

and ye have compassed the king round about, each with his weapons in his hand, and he who is coming unto the ranges is put to death; and be ye with the king in his going out and in his coming in.’

The captains over hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they each took his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.

And the captains H8269 over the hundreds H3967 did H6213 (QalImpf) according to all [things] that Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 commanded: H6680 (PielPerf) and they took H3947 (QalImpf) every man H376 his men H582 that were to come in H935 (QalActPtc) on the sabbath, H7676 with them that should go out H3318 (QalActPtc) on the sabbath, H7676 and came H935 (QalImpf) to Jehoiada H3077 the priest. And the heads of the hundreds do according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and take each his men going in on the sabbath, with those going out on the sabbath, and come in unto Jehoiada the priest,

When Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into Yahweh’s house;

And when Athaliah H6271 heard H8085 (QalImpf) the noise H6963 of the guard H7323 (QalPtc) [and] of the people, H5971 she came H935 (QalImpf) to the people H5971 into the temple H1004 of the Lord. H3068

And Athaliah heareth the voice of the runners and of the people, and she cometh in unto the people, to the house of Jehovah,

Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks. Kill anyone who follows her with the sword.” For the priest said, “Don’t let her be slain in Yahweh’s house.”

But Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 commanded H6680 (PielImpf) the captains H8269 of the hundreds, H3967 the officers H6485 (QalPasPtc) of the host, H2428 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Have her forth H3318 (HiphImpv) without H1004 the ranges: H7713 and him that followeth H935 (QalActPtc) H310 her kill H4191 (HiphInf) with the sword. And Jehoiada the priest commandeth the heads of the hundreds, inspectors of the force, and saith unto them, ‘Bring her out unto the outside of the ranges, and him who is going after her, put to death by the sword:’ for the priest had said, ‘Let her not be put to death in the house of Jehovah.’

So they seized her; and she went by the way of the horses’ entry to the king’s house, and she was slain there.

And they laid H7760 (QalImpf) hands H3027 on her; and she went H935 (QalImpf) by the way H1870 by the which the horses H5483 came H3996 into the king’s H4428 house: H1004 and there was she slain. H4191 (HophImpf)

And they make for her sides, and she entereth the way of the entering in of the horses to the house of the king, and is put to death there.

All the people of the land went to the house of Baal, and broke it down. They broke his altars and his images in pieces thoroughly, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. The priest appointed officers over Yahweh’s house.

and Jehoiada the priest taketh a chest, and pierceth a hole in its lid, and putteth it near the altar, on the right side, as one cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and the priests keeping the threshold have put there all the money that is brought in to the house of Jehovah.

But there were not made for Yahweh’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house;

Only, there is not made for the house of Jehovah basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, any vessel of gold, and vessel of silver, out of the money that is brought into the house of Jehovah;

The money for the trespass offerings and the money for the sin offerings was not brought into Yahweh’s house. It was the priests’.

The trespass H817 money H3701 and sin H2403 money H3701 was not brought H935 (HophImpf) into the house H1004 of the Lord: H3068 it was the priests’. H3548

The money of a trespass-offering, and the money of sin-offerings is not brought in to the house of Jehovah-for the priests it is.

At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered Elath to Syria, and drove the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians came to Elath, and lived there to this day.

Urijah the priest built an altar. According to all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so Urijah the priest made it for the coming of King Ahaz from Damascus.

and Urijah the priest buildeth the altar according to all that king Ahaz hath sent from Damascus; so did Urijah the priest till the coming in of king Ahaz from Damascus.

When the king had come from Damascus, the king saw the altar; and the king came near to the altar, and offered on it.

And the king cometh in from Damascus, and the king seeth the altar, and the king draweth near on the altar, and offereth on it,

The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, from Cuthah, from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria and lived in its cities.

And the king of Asshur bringeth in from Babylon and from Cutha, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and causeth them to dwell in the cities of Samaria instead of the sons of Israel, and they possess Samaria, and dwell in its cities;

So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

And one of the priests whom they removed from Samaria cometh in, and dwelleth in Beth-El, and he is teaching them how they do fear Jehovah,
