Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come! Let’s go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that Yahweh will work for us, for there is no restraint on Yahweh to save by many or by few.”

And Jonathan saith unto the young man bearing his weapons, ‘Come, and we pass over unto the station of these uncircumcised; it may be Jehovah doth work for us, for there is no restraint to Jehovah to save by many or by few.’

His armor bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Go, and behold, I am with you according to your heart.”

And his armourbearer H5375 (QalActPtc) H3627 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Do H6213 (QalImpv) all that [is] in thine heart: H3824 turn H5186 (QalImpv) thee; behold, I [am] with thee according to thy heart. H3824

And the bearer of his weapons saith to him, ‘Do all that is in thy heart; turn for thee; lo, I am with thee, as thine own heart.’

The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will show you something!” Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up after me, for Yahweh has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”

And the men of the station answer Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons, and say, ‘Come up unto us, and we cause you to know something.’ And Jonathan saith unto the bearer of his weapons, ‘Come up after me, for Jehovah hath given them into the hand of Israel.’

Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him, and they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.

And Jonathan goeth up on his hands, and on his feet, and the bearer of his weapons after him; and they fall before Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons is putting to death after him.

That first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow’s length in an acre of land.

And that first H7223 slaughter, H4347 which Jonathan H3129 and his armourbearer H5375 (QalActPtc) H3627 made, H5221 (HiphPerf) was about twenty H6242 men, H376 within as it were an half H2677 acre H4618 of land, H7704 [which] a yoke H6776 [of oxen might plow].

And the first smiting which Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons have smitten is of about twenty men, in about half a furrow of a yoke of a field,

Then Saul said to the people who were with him, “Count now, and see who is missing from us.” When they had counted, behold, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) Saul H7586 unto the people H5971 that [were] with him, Number H6485 (QalImpv) now, and see H7200 (QalImpv) who is gone H1980 (QalPerf) from us. And Saul saith to the people who are with him, ‘Inspect, I pray you, and see; who hath gone from us?’ and they inspect, and lo, Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons are not.

Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Yahweh.”

Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon H5375 (QalImpv) my sin, H2403 and turn again H7725 (QalImpv) with me, that I may worship H7812 (HithImpf) the Lord. H3068

and now, bear, I pray thee, with my sin, and turn back with me, and I bow myself to Jehovah.’

David came to Saul and stood before him. He loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer.

And David H1732 came H935 (QalImpf) to Saul, H7586 and stood H5975 (QalImpf) before H6440 him: and he loved H157 (QalImpf) him greatly; H3966 and he became his armourbearer. H5375 (QalActPtc) H3627

And David cometh in unto Saul, and standeth before him, and he loveth him greatly; and he is a bearer of his weapons.

The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron.° His shield bearer went before him.

and the wood of his spear is like a beam of weaver?’, and the flame of his spear is six hundred shekels of iron, and the bearer of the buckler is going before him.

David rose up early in the morning and left the sheep with a keeper, and took the provisions and went, as Jesse had commanded him. He came to the place of the wagons as the army which was going out to the fight shouted for the battle.

And David riseth early in the morning, and leaveth the flock to a keeper, and lifteth up, and goeth, as Jesse commanded him, and he cometh in to the path, and to the force which is going out unto the rank, and they have shouted for battle;

David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,

The Philistine walked and came near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.

It came to pass, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is that your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice and wept.

And it came to pass, when David H1732 had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of speaking H1696 (PielInf) these words H1697 unto Saul, H7586 that Saul H7586 said, H559 (QalImpf) [Is] this thy voice, H6963 my son H1121 David? And it cometh to pass, when David completeth to speak these words unto Saul, that Saul saith, ‘Is this thy voice, my son David?’ and Saul lifteth up his voice, and weepeth.

Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Yahweh will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights Yahweh’s battles. Evil will not be found in you all your days.

I pray thee, forgive H5375 (QalImpv) the trespass H6588 of thine handmaid: H519 for the Lord H3068 will certainly H6213 (QalInf) make H6213 (QalImpf) my lord H113 a sure H539 (NiphPtc) house; H1004 because my lord H113 fighteth H3898 (NiphPtc) the battles H4421 of the Lord, H3068 and evil H7451 hath not been found H4672 (NiphImpf) in thee [all] thy days. ‘Bear, I pray thee, with the transgression of thy handmaid, for Jehovah doth certainly make to my lord a stedfast house; for the battles of Jehovah hath my lord fought, and evil is not found in thee all thy days.

So David received from her hand that which she had brought him. Then he said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. Behold, I have listened to your voice and have granted your request.”

And David receiveth from her hand that which she hath brought to him, and to her he hath said, ‘Go up in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and accept thy face.’

Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.

And David lifteth up-and the people who are with him-their voice and weep, till that they have no power to weep.

Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through and abuse me!” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it.

and Saul saith to the bearer of his weapons, ‘Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest they come-these uncircumcised-and have pierced me, and rolled themselves on me;’ and the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he is greatly afraid, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it.

When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died with him.

And when his armourbearer H5375 (QalActPtc) H3627 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that Saul H7586 was dead, H4191 (QalPerf) he fell H5307 (QalImpf) likewise upon his sword, H2719 and died H4191 (QalImpf) with him.

And the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul is dead, and he falleth-he also-on his sword, and dieth with him;

So Saul died with his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men that same day together.

So Saul H7586 died, H4191 (QalImpf) and his three H7969 sons, H1121 and his armourbearer, H5375 (QalActPtc) H3627 and all his men, H582 that same day H3117 together. H3162

and Saul dieth, and three of his sons, and the bearer of his weapons, also all his men, on that day together.

Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn away from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I look Joab your brother in the face?”

And Abner H74 said H559 (QalInf) again H3254 (HiphImpf) to Asahel, H6214 Turn thee aside H5493 (QalImpv) from following H310 me: wherefore should I smite H5221 (HiphImpf) thee to the ground? H776 how then should I hold up H5375 (QalImpf) my face H6440 to Joab H3097 thy brother? H251

And Abner addeth again, saying unto Asahel, ‘Turn thee aside from after me, why do I smite thee to the earth? and how do I lift up my face unto Joab thy brother?’

They took up Asahel and buried him in the tomb of his father, which was in Bethlehem. Joab and his men went all night, and the day broke on them at Hebron.

And they lift up Asahel, and bury him in the burying-place of his father, which is in Beth-Lehem, and they go all the night-Joab and his men-and it is light to them in Hebron.

They buried Abner in Hebron; and the king lifted up his voice and wept at Abner’s grave; and all the people wept.

Now Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news came about Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel; and his nurse picked him up and fled. As she hurried to flee, he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.

And Jonathan, H3083 Saul’s H7586 son, H1121 had a son H1121 [that was] lame H5223 of [his] feet. H7272 He was five H2568 years H8141 old H1121 when the tidings H8052 came H935 (QalInf) of Saul H7586 and Jonathan H3083 out of Jezreel, H3157 and his nurse H539 (QalActPtc) took him up, H5375 (QalImpf) and fled: H5127 (QalImpf) and it came to pass, as she made haste H2648 (QalInf) to flee, H5127 (QalInf) that he fell, H5307 (QalImpf) and became lame. And to Jonathan son of Saul is a son-lame; he was a son of five years at the coming in of the rumour of the death of Saul and Jonathan, out of Jezreel, and his nurse lifteth him up, and fleeth, and it cometh to pass in her hasting to flee, that he falleth, and becometh lame, and his name is Mephibosheth.

David perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

And David H1732 perceived H3045 (QalImpf) that the Lord H3068 had established H3559 (HiphPerf) him king H4428 over Israel, H3478 and that he had exalted H5375 (PielPerf) his kingdom H4467 for his people H5971 Israel’s H3478 sake.

and David knoweth that Jehovah hath established him for king over Israel, and that He hath lifted up his kingdom, because of His people Israel.

They left their images there, and David and his men took them away.

And there they left H5800 (QalImpf) their images, H6091 and David H1732 and his men H582 burned H5375 (QalImpf) them.

And they forsake there their idols, and David and his men lift them up.

They set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.

And they set H7392 (HiphImpf) the ark H727 of God H430 upon a new H2319 cart, H5699 and brought H5375 (QalImpf) it out of the house H1004 of Abinadab H41 that [was] in Gibeah: H1390 and Uzzah H5798 and Ahio, H283 the sons H1121 of Abinadab, H41 drave H5090 (QalActPtc) the new H2319 cart. H5699

And they cause the ark of God to ride on a new cart, and lift it up from the house of Abinadab, which is in the height, and Uzzah and Ahio sons of Abinadab are leading the new cart;

They brought it out of Abinadab’s house which was in the hill, with God’s ark; and Ahio went before the ark.

And they brought H5375 (QalImpf) it out of the house H1004 of Abinadab H41 which [was] at Gibeah, H1390 accompanying H5973 the ark H727 of God: H430 and Ahio H283 went H1980 (QalActPtc) before H6440 the ark. H727

and they lift it up from the house of Abinadab, which is in the height, with the ark of God, and Ahio is going before the ark,

When those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.

And it was [so], that when they that bare H5375 (QalActPtc) the ark H727 of the Lord H3068 had gone H6805 (QalPerf) six H8337 paces, H6806 he sacrificed H2076 (QalImpf) oxen H7794 and fatlings. H4806

And it cometh to pass, when those bearing the ark of Jehovah have stepped six steps, that he sacrificeth an ox and a fatling.

He defeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. The Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.

And he smote H5221 (HiphImpf) Moab, H4124 and measured H4058 (PielImpf) them with a line, H2256 casting them down H7901 (HiphInf) to the ground; H776 even with two H8147 lines H2256 measured H4058 (PielImpf) he to put to death, H4191 (HiphInf) and with one full H4393 line H2256 to keep alive. And he smiteth Moab, and measureth them with a line, causing them to lie down on the earth, and he measureth two lines to put to death, and the fulness of the line to keep alive, and the Moabites are to David for servants, bearers of a present.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

Then David H1732 put H7760 (QalImpf) garrisons H5333 in Syria H758 of Damascus: H1834 and the Syrians H758 became servants H5650 to David, H1732 [and] brought H5375 (QalActPtc) gifts. H4503 And the Lord H3068 preserved H3467 (HiphImpf) David H1732 whithersoever he went. H1980 (QalPerf)

and David putteth garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram is to David for a servant, bearing a present; and Jehovah saveth David whithersoever he hath gone;

But Absalom fled. The young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him.

But Absalom H53 fled. H1272 (QalImpf) And the young man H5288 that kept the watch H6822 (QalActPtc) lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) his eyes, H5869 and looked, H7200 (QalImpf) and, behold, there came H1980 (QalActPtc) much H7227 people H5971 by the way H1870 of the hill H2022 side H6654 behind H310 him.

And Absalom fleeth, and the young man who is watching lifteth up his eyes and looketh, and lo, much people are coming by the way behind him, on the side of the hill.

As soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept. The king also and all his servants wept bitterly.

And it cometh to pass at his finishing to speak, that lo, the sons of the king have come, and they lift up their voice, and weep, and also the king and all his servants have wept-a very great weeping.

For we must die, and are like water spilled on the ground, which can’t be gathered up again; neither does God take away life, but devises means, that he who is banished not be an outcast from him.

for we do surely die, and are as water which is running down to the earth, which is not gathered, and God doth not accept a person, and hath devised devices in that the outcast is not outcast by Him.

Behold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down God’s ark; and Abiathar went up until all the people finished passing out of the city.

Moreover, if he has gone into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there isn’t one small stone found there.”

And if unto a city he is gathered, then they have caused all Israel to bear unto that city ropes, and we have drawn it unto the brook till that there hath not been found there even a stone.’

Ten young men who bore Joab’s armor surrounded and struck Absalom, and killed him.

And ten H6235 young men H5288 that bare H5375 (QalActPtc) Joab’s H3097 armour H3627 compassed about H5437 (QalImpf) and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) Absalom, H53 and slew H4191 (HiphImpf) him.

And they go round-ten youths bearing weapons of Joab-and smite Absalom, and put him to death.

Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.

And David H1732 sat H3427 (QalActPtc) between the two H8147 gates: H8179 and the watchman H6822 (QalActPtc) went up H3212 (QalImpf) to the roof H1406 over the gate H8179 unto the wall, H2346 and lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) his eyes, H5869 and looked, H7200 (QalImpf) and behold a man H376 running H7323 (QalPtc) alone.

And David is sitting between the two gates, and the watchman goeth unto the roof of the gate, unto the wall, and lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, a man running by himself.

Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, “All is well.” He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, “Blessed is Yahweh your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king!”

And Ahimaaz calleth and saith unto the king, ‘Peace;’ and he boweth himself to the king, on his face, to the earth, and saith, ‘Blessed is Jehovah thy God who hath shut up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.’

All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?”

And all the men of Judah answer against the men of Israel, ‘Because the king is near unto us, and why is this-ye are displeased about this matter? have we at all eaten of the king’s substance? a gift hath he lifted up to us?’

My servants will bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you specify to me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you will receive them. You will accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.”
