The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses,° and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”

Exodus 2:10 “Moses” sounds like the Hebrew for “draw out”.

And the lad groweth, and she bringeth him in to the daughter of Pharaoh, and he is to her for a son, and she calleth his name Moses, and saith, ‘Because-from the water I have drawn him.’

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

And to a priest of Midian are seven daughters, and they come and draw, and fill the troughs, to water the flock of their father,

The shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

When they came to Reuel, their father, he said, “How is it that you have returned so early today?”

And they come in to Reuel their father, and he saith, ‘Wherefore have ye hastened to come in to-day?’

Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God’s mountain, to Horeb.

And Moses hath been feeding the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, priest of Midian, and he leadeth the flock behind the wilderness, and cometh in unto the mount of God, to Horeb;

Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Now therefore, behold, the cry H6818 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 is come H935 (QalPerf) unto me: and I have also seen H7200 (QalPerf) the oppression H3906 wherewith the Egyptians H4714 oppress H3905 (QalPtc) them.

‘And now, lo, the cry of the sons of Israel hath come in unto Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them,

Moses said to God, “Behold, when I come to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?”

And Moses saith unto God, ‘Lo, I am coming unto the sons of Israel, and have said to them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you, and they have said to me, What is His name? what do I say unto them?’

They will listen to your voice. You shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you shall tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh, our God.’

‘And they have hearkened to thy voice, and thou hast entered, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye have said unto him, Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, hath met with us; and now, let us go, we pray thee, a journey of three days into the wilderness, and we sacrifice to Jehovah our God.

Yahweh said furthermore to him, “Now put your hand inside your cloak.” He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.

And Jehovah saith to him again, ‘Put in, I pray thee, thy hand into thy bosom;’ and he putteth in his hand into his bosom, and he bringeth it out, and lo, his hand is leprous as snow;

Afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said to Pharaoh, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.’ ”

And afterwards have Moses and Aaron entered, and they say unto Pharaoh, ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Send My people away, and they keep a feast to Me in the wilderness;’

Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried to Pharaoh, saying, “Why do you deal this way with your servants?

And the authorities of the sons of Israel come in and cry unto Pharaoh, saying, ‘Why dost thou thus to thy servants?

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people. You have not rescued your people at all!”

I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am Yahweh.’ ”

and I have brought you in unto the land which I have lifted up My hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and have given it to you-a possession; I am Jehovah.’

“Go in, speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.”

‘Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he doth send the sons of Israel out of his land;

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded. Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 went in H935 (QalImpf) unto Pharaoh, H6547 and they did H6213 (QalImpf) so as the Lord H3068 had commanded: H6680 (PielPerf) and Aaron H175 cast down H7993 (HiphImpf) his rod H4294 before H6440 Pharaoh, H6547 and before H6440 his servants, H5650 and it became a serpent. And Moses goeth in-Aaron also-unto Pharaoh, and they do so as Jehovah hath commanded; and Aaron casteth his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it becometh a monster.

Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he didn’t even take this to heart.

And Pharaoh H6547 turned H6437 (QalImpf) and went H935 (QalImpf) into his house, H1004 neither did he set H7896 (QalPerf) his heart H3820 to this H2063 also.

and Pharaoh turneth and goeth in unto his house, and hath not set his heart even to this;

Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh says, “Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Go in unto Pharaoh: and thou hast said unto him, Thus said Jehovah, Send My people away, and they serve Me;

The river will swarm with frogs, which will go up and come into your house, and into your bedroom, and on your bed, and into the house of your servants, and on your people, and into your ovens, and into your kneading troughs.

and the River hath teemed with frogs, and they have gone up and gone into thy house, and into the inner-chamber of thy bed, and on thy couch, and into the house of thy servants, and among thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneading-troughs;

Yahweh did so; and there came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses. In all the land of Egypt the land was corrupted by reason of the swarms of flies.

And the Lord H3068 did H6213 (QalImpf) so; and there came H935 (QalImpf) a grievous H3515 swarm H6157 [of flies] into the house H1004 of Pharaoh, H6547 and [into] his servants’ H5650 houses, H1004 and into all the land H776 of Egypt: H4714 the land H776 was corrupted H7843 (NiphImpf) by reason H6440 of the swarm H6157 [of flies].

And Jehovah doth so, and the grievous beetle entereth the house of Pharaoh, and the house of his servants, and in all the land of Egypt the land is corrupted from the presence of the beetle.

Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Go in unto Pharaoh, and thou hast spoken unto him, Thus said Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, Send My people away, and they serve me,

Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs among them;

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Go H935 (QalImpv) in unto Pharaoh: H6547 for I have hardened H3513 (HiphPerf) his heart, H3820 and the heart H3820 of his servants, H5650 that I might shew H7896 (QalInf) these my signs H226 before H7130 him:

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Go in unto Pharaoh, for I have declared hard his heart, and the heart of his servants, so that I set these My signs in their midst,

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 came in H935 (QalImpf) unto Pharaoh, H6547 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 God H430 of the Hebrews, H5680 How long H4970 wilt thou refuse H3985 (PielPerf) to humble H6031 (NiphInf) thyself before H6440 me? let my people H5971 go, H7971 (PielImpv) that they may serve H5647 (QalImpf) me.

And Moses cometh in-Aaron also-unto Pharaoh, and they say unto him, ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, Until when hast thou refused to be humbled at My presence? send My people away, and they serve Me,

Or else, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country,

Else, H3588 if thou refuse H3986 to let my people H5971 go, H7971 (PielInf) behold, to morrow H4279 will I bring H935 (HiphPtc) the locusts H697 into thy coast: H1366

for if thou art refusing to send My people away, lo, I am bringing in to-morrow the locust into thy border,

Our livestock also shall go with us. Not a hoof shall be left behind, for of it we must take to serve Yahweh our God; and we don’t know with what we must serve Yahweh, until we come there.”

Our cattle H4735 also shall go H3212 (QalImpf) with us; there shall not an hoof H6541 be left behind; H7604 (NiphImpf) for thereof must we take H3947 (QalImpf) to serve H5647 (QalInf) the Lord H3068 our God; H430 and we know H3045 (QalImpf) not with what we must serve H5647 (QalImpf) the Lord, H3068 until we come H935 (QalInf) thither.

and also our cattle doth go with us, there is not left a hoof, for from it we do take to serve Jehovah our God; and we-we know not how we do serve Jehovah till our going thither.’

Yahweh said to Moses, “I will bring yet one more plague on Pharaoh, and on Egypt; afterwards he will let you go. When he lets you go, he will surely thrust you out altogether.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Yet will I bring H935 (HiphImpf) one H259 plague H5061 [more] upon Pharaoh, H6547 and upon Egypt; H4714 afterwards H310 he will let you go H7971 (PielImpf) hence: when he shall let [you] go, H7971 (PielInf) he shall surely H1644 (PielInf) thrust you out H1644 (PielImpf) hence altogether. H3617

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘One plague more I do bring in on Pharaoh, and on Egypt, afterwards he doth send you away from this; when he is sending you away, he surely casteth you out altogether from this place;

For Yahweh will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel, and on the two door posts, Yahweh will pass over the door, and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to strike you.

For the Lord H3068 will pass through H5674 (QalPerf) to smite H5062 (QalInf) the Egyptians; H4714 and when he seeth H7200 (QalPerf) the blood H1818 upon the lintel, H4947 and on the two H8147 side posts, H4201 the Lord H3068 will pass over H6452 (QalPerf) the door, H6607 and will not suffer H5414 (QalImpf) the destroyer H7843 (HiphPtc) to come H935 (QalInf) in unto your houses H1004 to smite H5062 (QalInf) [you].

‘And Jehovah hath passed on to smite the Egyptians, and hath seen the blood on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, and Jehovah hath passed over the opening, and doth not permit the destruction to come into your houses to smite.

It shall happen when you have come to the land which Yahweh will give you, as he has promised, that you shall keep this service.

And it shall come to pass, when ye be come H935 (QalImpf) to the land H776 which the Lord H3068 will give H5414 (QalImpf) you, according as he hath promised, H1696 (PielPerf) that ye shall keep H8104 (QalPerf) this service. H5656

and it hath been, when ye come in unto the land which Jehovah giveth to you, as He hath spoken, that ye have kept this service;

It shall be, when Yahweh brings you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

And it shall be when the Lord H3068 shall bring H935 (HiphImpf) thee into the land H776 of the Canaanites, H3669 and the Hittites, H2850 and the Amorites, H567 and the Hivites, H2340 and the Jebusites, H2983 which he sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto thy fathers H1 to give H5414 (QalInf) thee, a land H776 flowing H2100 (QalActPtc) with milk H2461 and honey, H1706 that thou shalt keep H5647 (QalPerf) this service H5656 in this month. ‘And it hath been, when Jehovah bringeth thee in unto the land of the Canaanite, and of the Hittite, and of the Amorite, and of the Hivite, and of the Jebusite, which He hath sworn to thy fathers to give to thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou hast done this service in this month.

“It shall be, when Yahweh brings you into the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your fathers, and will give it to you,

And it shall be when the Lord H3068 shall bring H935 (HiphImpf) thee into the land H776 of the Canaanites, H3669 as he sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto thee and to thy fathers, H1 and shall give H5414 (QalPerf) it thee,

‘And it hath been, when Jehovah bringeth thee in unto the land of the Canaanite, as He hath sworn to thee and to thy fathers, and hath given it to thee,

Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. Then the children of Israel shall go into the middle of the sea on dry ground.

But lift thou up H7311 (HiphImpv) thy rod, H4294 and stretch out H5186 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 over the sea, H3220 and divide H1234 (QalImpv) it: and the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall go H935 (QalImpf) on dry H3004 [ground] through the midst H8432 of the sea. H3220

and thou, lift up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand towards the sea, and cleave it, and the sons of Israel go into the midst of the sea on dry land.

Behold, I myself will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they will go in after them. I will get myself honor over Pharaoh, and over all his armies, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.

And I, behold, I will harden H2388 (PielPtc) the hearts H3820 of the Egyptians, H4714 and they shall follow H935 (QalImpf) them: H310 and I will get me honour H3513 (NiphImpf) upon Pharaoh, H6547 and upon all his host, H2428 upon his chariots, H7393 and upon his horsemen. H6571

‘And I-lo, I am strengthening the heart of the Egyptians, and they go in after them, and I am honoured on Pharaoh, and on all his force, on his chariots, and on his horsemen;

It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. There was the cloud and the darkness, yet it gave light by night. One didn’t come near the other all night.

And it came H935 (QalImpf) between the camp H4264 of the Egyptians H4714 and the camp H4264 of Israel; H3478 and it was a cloud H6051 and darkness H2822 [to them], but it gave light H215 (HiphImpf) by night H3915 [to these]: so that the one came not near H7126 (QalPerf) the other H2088 all the night. and cometh in between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel, and the cloud and the darkness are, and he enlighteneth the night, and the one hath not drawn near unto the other all the night.

The children of Israel went into the middle of the sea on the dry ground; and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went H935 (QalImpf) into the midst H8432 of the sea H3220 upon the dry H3004 [ground]: and the waters H4325 [were] a wall H2346 unto them on their right hand, H3225 and on their left. H8040

and the sons of Israel go into the midst of the sea, on dry land, and the waters are to them a wall, on their right and on their left.

The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the middle of the sea: all of Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

And the Egyptians H4714 pursued, H7291 (QalImpf) and went in H935 (QalImpf) after H310 them to the midst H8432 of the sea, H3220 [even] all Pharaoh’s H6547 horses, H5483 his chariots, H7393 and his horsemen. H6571

And the Egyptians pursue, and go in after them (all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen) unto the midst of the sea,

The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh’s army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.

And the waters H4325 returned, H7725 (QalImpf) and covered H3680 (PielImpf) the chariots, H7393 and the horsemen, H6571 [and] all the host H2428 of Pharaoh H6547 that came H935 (QalActPtc) into the sea H3220 after H310 them; there remained H7604 (NiphPerf) not so much as H5704 one H259 of them.

and the waters turn back, and cover the chariots and the horsemen, even all the force of Pharaoh, who are coming in after them into the sea-there hath not been left of them even one.

You will bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, the place, Yahweh, which you have made for yourself to dwell in: the sanctuary, Lord, which your hands have established.

Thou shalt bring H935 (HiphImpf) them in, and plant H5193 (QalImpf) them in the mountain H2022 of thine inheritance, H5159 [in] the place, H4349 O Lord, H3068 [which] thou hast made H6466 (QalPerf) for thee to dwell in, H3427 (QalInf) [in] the Sanctuary, H4720 O Lord, H136 [which] thy hands H3027 have established. Thou dost bring them in, And dost plant them In a mountain of Thine inheritance, A fixed place for Thy dwelling Thou hast made, O Jehovah; A sanctuary, O Lord, Thy hands have established;

For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Yahweh brought back the waters of the sea on them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the middle of the sea.

For the horse H5483 of Pharaoh H6547 went in H935 (QalPerf) with his chariots H7393 and with his horsemen H6571 into the sea, H3220 and the Lord H3068 brought again H7725 (HiphImpf) the waters H4325 of the sea H3220 upon them; but the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went H1980 (QalPerf) on dry H3004 [land] in the midst H8432 of the sea. For the horse of Pharaoh hath gone in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Jehovah turneth back on them the waters of the sea, and the sons of Israel have gone on dry land in the midst of the sea.

When they came to Marah, they couldn’t drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah.°

Exodus 15:23 Marah means bitter.

and they come in to Marah, and have not been able to drink the waters of Marah, for they are bitter; therefore hath one called its name Marah.

They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. They encamped there by the waters.

And they came H935 (QalImpf) to Elim, H362 where [were] twelve H8147 H6240 wells H5869 of water, H4325 and threescore and ten H7657 palm trees: H8558 and they encamped H2583 (QalImpf) there by the waters. H4325

And they come to Elim, and there are twelve fountains of water, and seventy palm trees; and they encamp there by the waters.

They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

H4714

And they journey from Elim, and all the company of the sons of Israel come in unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt.

It shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth H8345 day H3117 they shall prepare H3559 (HiphPerf) [that] which H834 they bring in; H935 (HiphImpf) and it shall be twice H4932 as much as they gather H3950 (QalImpf) daily. H3117 H3117

and it hath been on the sixth day, that they have prepared that which they bring in, and it hath been double above that which they gather day by day.’

On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one; and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

And it came to pass, [that] on the sixth H8345 day H3117 they gathered H3950 (QalPerf) twice H4932 as much bread, H3899 two H8147 omers H6016 for one H259 [man]: and all the rulers H5387 of the congregation H5712 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) Moses. H4872

And it cometh to pass on the sixth day, they have gathered a second bread, two omers for one, and all the princes of the company come in, and declare to Moses.

The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did eat H398 (QalPerf) manna H4478 forty H705 years, H8141 until they came H935 (QalInf) to a land H776 inhabited; H3427 (NiphPtc) they did eat H398 (QalPerf) manna, H4478 until they came H935 (QalInf) unto the borders H7097 of the land H776 of Canaan. H3667

And the sons of Israel have eaten the manna forty years, until their coming in unto the land to be inhabited; the manna they have eaten till their coming in unto the extremity of the land of Canaan.

Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

Then came H935 (QalImpf) Amalek, H6002 and fought H3898 (NiphImpf) with Israel H3478 in Rephidim. H7508

And Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

But Moses’ hands were heavy; so they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.

And the hands of Moses are heavy, and they take a stone, and set it under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with Moses’ sons and his wife to Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the Mountain of God.

And Jethro, H3503 Moses’ H4872 father in law, H2859 (QalActPtc) came H935 (QalImpf) with his sons H1121 and his wife H802 unto Moses H4872 into the wilderness, H4057 where he encamped H2583 (QalActPtc) at the mount H2022 of God: H430

And Jethro, father-in-law of Moses, cometh, and his sons, and his wife, unto Moses, unto the wilderness where he is encamping-the mount of God;

He said to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, have come to you with your wife, and her two sons with her.”

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 I thy father in law H2859 (QalActPtc) Jethro H3503 am come H935 (QalActPtc) unto thee, and thy wife, H802 and her two H8147 sons H1121 with her.

and he saith unto Moses, ‘I, thy father-in-law, Jethro, am coming unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.’

Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed and kissed him. They asked each other of their welfare, and they came into the tent.

And Moses H4872 went out H3318 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) his father in law, H2859 (QalActPtc) and did obeisance, H7812 (HithImpf) and kissed H5401 (QalImpf) him; and they asked H7592 (QalImpf) each H376 other H7453 of [their] welfare; H7965 and they came H935 (QalImpf) into the tent. H168

And Moses goeth out to meet his father-in-law, and boweth himself, and kisseth him, and they ask one at another of welfare, and come into the tent;

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aaron came with all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.

And Jethro, H3503 Moses’ H4872 father in law, H2859 (QalActPtc) took H3947 (QalImpf) a burnt offering H5930 and sacrifices H2077 for God: H430 and Aaron H175 came, H935 (QalImpf) and all the elders H2205 of Israel, H3478 to eat H398 (QalInf) bread H3899 with Moses’ H4872 father in law H2859 (QalActPtc) before H6440 God. H430

And Jethro, father-in-law of Moses, taketh a burnt-offering and sacrifices for God; and Aaron cometh in, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with the father-in-law of Moses, before God.

Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.

And Moses H4872 said H559 (QalImpf) unto his father in law, H2859 (QalActPtc) Because the people H5971 come H935 (QalImpf) unto me to enquire H1875 (QalInf) of God: H430

And Moses saith to his father-in-law, ‘Because the people come unto me to seek God;
