Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.”

Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.

Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people.

There will be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been, nor will be any more.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Pharaoh won’t listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”

Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go out of his land.

Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and animal. I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt. I am Yahweh.

Exodus 12:12 Or, princes

Exodus 12:29 Heb. house of the pit

εγενηθη δε μεσουσης της νυκτος και κυριος επαταξεν παν πρωτοτοκον εν γη αιγυπτω απο πρωτοτοκου φαραω του καθημενου επι του θρονου εως πρωτοτοκου της αιχμαλωτιδος της εν τω λακκω και εως πρωτοτοκου παντος κτηνους

The Egyptians were urgent with the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, “We are all dead men.”

It is a night to be much observed to Yahweh for bringing them out from the land of Egypt. This is that night of Yahweh, to be much observed by all the children of Israel throughout their generations.

Exodus 12:42 Heb. a night of observations

νυκτος προφυλακη εστιν τω κυριω ωστε εξαγαγειν αυτους εκ γης αιγυπτου εκεινη η νυξ αυτη προφυλακη κυριω ωστε πασι τοις υιοις ισραηλ ειναι εις γενεας αυτων

When a stranger lives as a foreigner with you, and would like to keep the Passover to Yahweh, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it. He shall be as one who is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat of it.

That same day, Yahweh brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

When the dew that lay had gone, behold, on the surface of the wilderness was a small round thing, small as the frost on the ground.

Moses said, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, ‘Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ”

The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

οι δε υιοι ισραηλ εφαγον το μαν ετη τεσσαρακοντα εως ηλθον εις γην οικουμενην το μαν εφαγοσαν εως παρεγενοντο εις μερος της φοινικης

and her two sons. The name of one son was Gershom,° for Moses said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land”.

Exodus 18:3 “Gershom” sounds like the Hebrew for “an alien there”.

Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way into his own land.

“I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

εγω ειμι κυριος ο θεος σου οστις εξηγαγον σε εκ γης αιγυπτου εξ οικου δουλειας

“You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Thou shalt not make H6213 (QalImpf) unto thee any graven image, H6459 or any likeness H8544 of any thing that H834 is in heaven H8064 above, H4605 or that is in the earth H776 beneath, or that is in the water H4325 under the earth: H776

ου ποιησεις σεαυτω ειδωλον ουδε παντος ομοιωμα οσα εν τω ουρανω ανω και οσα εν τη γη κατω και οσα εν τοις υδασιν υποκατω της γης

for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy.

εν γαρ εξ ημεραις εποιησεν κυριος τον ουρανον και την γην και την θαλασσαν και παντα τα εν αυτοις και κατεπαυσεν τη ημερα τη εβδομη δια τουτο ευλογησεν κυριος την ημεραν την εβδομην και ηγιασεν αυτην

“You shall not wrong an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

Thou shalt neither vex H3238 (HiphImpf) a stranger, H1616 nor oppress H3905 (QalImpf) him: for ye were strangers H1616 in the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

“You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

και προσηλυτον ου θλιψετε υμεις γαρ οιδατε την ψυχην του προσηλυτου αυτοι γαρ προσηλυτοι ητε εν γη αιγυπτω

“For six years you shall sow your land, and shall gather in its increase,

And six H8337 years H8141 thou shalt sow H2232 (QalImpf) thy land, H776 and shalt gather H622 (QalPerf) in the fruits H8393 thereof:

εξ ετη σπερεις την γην σου και συναξεις τα γενηματα αυτης

No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days.

There shall nothing cast their young, H7921 (PielPtc) nor be barren, H6135 in thy land: H776 the number H4557 of thy days H3117 I will fulfil. H4390 (PielImpf)

ουκ εσται αγονος ουδε στειρα επι της γης σου τον αριθμον των ημερων σου αναπληρωσω

I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you.

I will not drive them out H1644 (PielImpf) from before H6440 thee in one H259 year; H8141 lest the land H776 become desolate, H8077 and the beast H2416 of the field H7704 multiply H7227 against thee.

ουκ εκβαλω αυτους εν ενιαυτω ενι ινα μη γενηται η γη ερημος και πολλα γενηται επι σε τα θηρια της γης

Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land.

By little H4592 and little H4592 I will drive them out H1644 (PielImpf) from before H6440 thee, until thou be increased, H6509 (QalImpf) and inherit H5157 (QalPerf) the land. H776

κατα μικρον μικρον εκβαλω αυτους απο σου εως αν αυξηθης και κληρονομησης την γην

I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

και θησω τα ορια σου απο της ερυθρας θαλασσης εως της θαλασσης της φυλιστιιμ και απο της ερημου εως του μεγαλου ποταμου ευφρατου και παραδωσω εις τας χειρας υμων τους εγκαθημενους εν τη γη και εκβαλω αυτους απο σου

They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

They shall not dwell H3427 (QalImpf) in thy land, H776 lest they make thee sin H2398 (HiphImpf) against me: for if thou serve H5647 (QalImpf) their gods, H430 it will surely be a snare H4170 unto thee.

και ουκ εγκαθησονται εν τη γη σου ινα μη αμαρτειν σε ποιησωσιν προς με εαν γαρ δουλευσης τοις θεοις αυτων ουτοι εσονται σοι προσκομμα

They shall know that I am Yahweh their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them: I am Yahweh their God.

And they shall know H3045 (QalPerf) that I am the Lord H3068 their God, H430 that brought them forth H3318 (HiphPerf) out of the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 that I may dwell H7931 (QalInf) among H8432 them: I am the Lord H3068 their God. H430

και γνωσονται οτι εγω ειμι κυριος ο θεος αυτων ο εξαγαγων αυτους εκ γης αιγυπτου επικληθηναι αυτοις και θεος ειναι αυτων

It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.’ ”

When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”

και ιδων ο λαος οτι κεχρονικεν μωυσης καταβηναι εκ του ορους συνεστη ο λαος επι ααρων και λεγουσιν αυτω αναστηθι και ποιησον ημιν θεους οι προπορευσονται ημων ο γαρ μωυσης ουτος ο ανθρωπος ος εξηγαγεν ημας εξ αιγυπτου ουκ οιδαμεν τι γεγονεν αυτω
