Her husband arose and went after her to speak kindly to her, to bring her again, having his servant with him and a couple of donkeys. She brought him into her father’s house; and when the father of the young lady saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

και ειπεν προς αυτον διαβαινομεν ημεις εκ βηθλεεμ της ιουδα εως μηρων ορους του εφραιμ εγω δε εκειθεν ειμι και επορευθην εως βηθλεεμ ιουδα και εις τον οικον μου εγω αποτρεχω και ουκ εστιν ανηρ συναγων με εις την οικιαν

So he brought him into his house, and gave the donkeys fodder. Then they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

αυτων δε αγαθυνθεντων τη καρδια αυτων και ιδου οι ανδρες της πολεως υιοι παρανομων περιεκυκλωσαν την οικιαν και εκρουσαν την θυραν και ειπαν προς τον ανδρα τον κυριον της οικιας τον πρεσβυτην λεγοντες εξαγαγε τον ανδρα τον εισελθοντα εις την οικιαν σου ινα γνωμεν αυτον

The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.

All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.

και ανεστη πας ο λαος ως ανηρ εις λεγων ουκ εισελευσομεθα ανηρ εις το σκηνωμα αυτου και ουκ εκκλινουμεν ανηρ εις τον οικον αυτου

The children of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God. They asked, “Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “Judah first.”

και ανεστησαν και ανεβησαν εις βαιθηλ και επηρωτησαν εν τω θεω και ειπαν οι υιοι ισραηλ τις αναβησεται ημιν αφηγουμενος πολεμησαι μετα βενιαμιν και ειπεν κυριος ιουδας αναβησεται αφηγουμενος

Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.

The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

The people came to Bethel and sat there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept severely.

May Yahweh grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices, and wept.

She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.”

και ειποσαν πας ο λαος οι εν τη πυλη μαρτυρες και οι πρεσβυτεροι ειποσαν δωη κυριος την γυναικα σου την εισπορευομενην εις τον οικον σου ως ραχηλ και ως λειαν αι ωκοδομησαν αμφοτεραι τον οικον ισραηλ και εποιησαν δυναμιν εν εφραθα και εσται ονομα εν βαιθλεεμ

Let your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, of the offspring^§ which Yahweh will give you by this young woman.”

They rose up in the morning early and worshiped Yahweh, then returned and came to their house to Ramah. Then Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.

The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice and his vow.

When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah° of meal, and a container of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.

A man of God came to Eli and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Did I reveal myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house?

Didn’t I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Didn’t I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?

και εξελεξαμην τον οικον του πατρος σου εκ παντων των σκηπτρων ισραηλ εμοι ιερατευειν και αναβαινειν επι θυσιαστηριον μου και θυμιαν θυμιαμα και αιρειν εφουδ και εδωκα τω οικω του πατρος σου τα παντα του πυρος υιων ισραηλ εις βρωσιν

“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father should walk before me forever.’ But now Yahweh says, ‘Far be it from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me will be cursed.

Behold,^§ the days come that I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father’s house, that there will not be an old man in your house.

You will see the affliction of my habitation, in all the wealth which I will give Israel. There shall not be an old man in your house forever.

και ουκ εσται σου πρεσβυτης εν οικω μου πασας τας ημερας

The man of yours whom I don’t cut off from my altar will consume your eyes^§ and grieve your heart. All the increase of your house will die in the flower of their age.

και ανδρα ουκ εξολεθρευσω σοι απο του θυσιαστηριου μου εκλιπειν τους οφθαλμους αυτου και καταρρειν την ψυχην αυτου και πας περισσευων οικου σου πεσουνται εν ρομφαια ανδρων

I will raise up a faithful priest for myself who will do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house. He will walk before my anointed forever.

και αναστησω εμαυτω ιερεα πιστον ος παντα τα εν τη καρδια μου και τα εν τη ψυχη μου ποιησει και οικοδομησω αυτω οικον πιστον και διελευσεται ενωπιον χριστου μου πασας τας ημερας

It will happen that everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and will say, “Please put me into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.” ’ ”

και εσται ο περισσευων εν οικω σου ηξει προσκυνειν αυτω οβολου αργυριου λεγων παραρριψον με επι μιαν των ιερατειων σου φαγειν αρτον

In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.

εν τη ημερα εκεινη επεγερω επι ηλι παντα οσα ελαλησα εις τον οικον αυτου αρξομαι και επιτελεσω

For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didn’t restrain them.

και ανηγγελκα αυτω οτι εκδικω εγω τον οικον αυτου εως αιωνος εν αδικιαις υιων αυτου οτι κακολογουντες θεον υιοι αυτου και ουκ ενουθετει αυτους και ουδ ουτως

Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be removed with sacrifice or offering forever.”

And therefore I have sworn H7650 (NiphPerf) unto the house H1004 of Eli, H5941 that the iniquity H5771 of Eli’s H5941 house H1004 shall not be purged H3722 (HithImpf) with sacrifice H2077 nor offering H4503 for H5704 ever. H5769

ωμοσα τω οικω ηλι ει εξιλασθησεται αδικια οικου ηλι εν θυμιαματι και εν θυσιαις εως αιωνος

Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of Yahweh’s house. Samuel was afraid to show Eli the vision.

και ερχονται οι ανδρες καριαθιαριμ και αναγουσιν την κιβωτον διαθηκης κυριου και εισαγουσιν αυτην εις οικον αμιναδαβ τον εν τω βουνω και τον ελεαζαρ υιον αυτου ηγιασαν φυλασσειν την κιβωτον διαθηκης κυριου

From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long—for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.

Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς παντα οικον ισραηλ λεγων ει εν ολη καρδια υμων υμεις επιστρεφετε προς κυριον περιελετε τους θεους τους αλλοτριους εκ μεσου υμων και τα αλση και ετοιμασατε τας καρδιας υμων προς κυριον και δουλευσατε αυτω μονω και εξελειται υμας εκ χειρος αλλοφυλων

η δε αποστροφη αυτου εις αρμαθαιμ οτι εκει ην ο οικος αυτου και εδικαζεν εκει τον ισραηλ και ωκοδομησεν εκει θυσιαστηριον τω κυριω

Then Saul approached Samuel in the gateway, and said, “Please tell me where the seer’s house is.”

As for your donkeys who were lost three days ago, don’t set your mind on them, for they have been found. For whom does all Israel desire? Is it not you and all your father’s house?”

και περι των ονων σου των απολωλυιων σημερον τριταιων μη θης την καρδιαν σου αυταις οτι ευρηνται και τινι τα ωραια του ισραηλ ου σοι και τω οικω του πατρος σου
