a memorial to the sons of Israel, so that a stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron doth not draw near to make a perfume before Jehovah, and is not as Korah, and as his company,-as Jehovah hath spoken by the hand of Moses to him.

“Speak to the children of Israel, and take rods from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod.

Speak H1696 (PielImpv) unto the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and take H3947 (QalImpv) of every one of them a rod H4294 H4294 according to the house H1004 of [their] fathers, H1 of all their princes H5387 according to the house H1004 of their fathers H1 twelve H8147 H6240 rods: H4294 write H3789 (QalImpf) thou every man’s H376 name H8034 upon his rod. ‘Speak unto the sons of Israel, and take from them each a rod, for a father’s house, from all their princes, for the house of their fathers, twelve rods; the name of each thou dost write on his rod,

It shall happen that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease from me.”

And it shall come to pass, [that] the man’s H376 rod, H4294 whom I shall choose, H977 (QalImpf) shall blossom: H6524 (QalImpf) and I will make to cease H7918 (HiphPerf) from me the murmurings H8519 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 whereby they murmur H3885 (HiphPtc) against you.

‘And it hath come to pass, the man’s rod on whom I fix doth flourish, and I have caused to cease from off me the murmurings of the sons of Israel, which they are murmuring against you.’

Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod.

And Moses H4872 brought out H3318 (HiphImpf) all the rods H4294 from before H6440 the Lord H3068 unto all the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 and they looked, H7200 (QalImpf) and took H3947 (QalImpf) every man H376 his rod. H4294

and Moses bringeth out all the rods from before Jehovah, unto all the sons of Israel, and they look, and take each his rod.

“A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up outside of the camp in a clean place; and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for use in water for cleansing impurity. It is a sin offering.

And a man H376 [that is] clean H2889 shall gather H622 (QalPerf) up the ashes H665 of the heifer, H6510 and lay [them] up H3240 (HiphPerf) without H2351 the camp H4264 in a clean H2889 place, H4725 and it shall be kept H4931 for the congregation H5712 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 for a water H4325 of separation: H5079 it [is] a purification for sin. H2403

‘And a clean man hath gathered the ashes of the cow, and hath placed at the outside of the camp, in a clean place, and it hath become to the company of the sons of Israel a charge for waters of separation-it is a cleansing;

A clean person shall take hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle it on the tent, on all the vessels, on the persons who were there, and on him who touched the bone, or the slain, or the dead, or the grave.

And a clean H2889 person H376 shall take H3947 (QalPerf) hyssop, H231 and dip H2881 (QalPerf) [it] in the water, H4325 and sprinkle H5137 (HiphPerf) [it] upon the tent, H168 and upon all the vessels, H3627 and upon the persons H5315 that were there, and upon him that touched H5060 (QalActPtc) a bone, H6106 or one slain, H2491 or one dead, H4191 (QalPtc) or a grave: H6913

and a clean person hath taken hyssop, and hath dipped it in water, and hath sprinkled on the tent, and on all the vessels, and on the persons who have been there, and on him who is coming against a bone, or against one pierced, or against the dead, or against a grave.

But the man who shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of Yahweh. The water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him. He is unclean.

But the man H376 that shall be unclean, H2930 (QalImpf) and shall not purify H2398 (HithImpf) himself, that soul H5315 shall be cut off H3772 (NiphPerf) from among H8432 the congregation, H6951 because he hath defiled H2930 (PielPerf) the sanctuary H4720 of the Lord: H3068 the water H4325 of separation H5079 hath not been sprinkled H2236 (PualPerf) upon him; he [is] unclean. H2931

‘And the man who is unclean, and doth not cleanse himself, even that person hath been cut off from the midst of the assembly; for the sanctuary of Jehovah he hath defiled; water of separation is not sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.

Moses made a serpent of bronze, and set it on the pole. If a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked at the serpent of bronze, he lived.

And Moses H4872 made H6213 (QalImpf) a serpent H5175 of brass, H5178 and put H7760 (QalImpf) it upon a pole, H5251 and it came to pass, that if a serpent H5175 had bitten H5391 (QalPerf) any man, H376 when he beheld H5027 (HiphPerf) the serpent H5175 of brass, H5178 he lived. H2425 (QalPerf)

And Moses maketh a serpent of brass, and setteth it on the ensign, and it hath been, if the serpent hath bitten any man, and he hath looked expectingly unto the serpent of brass-he hath lived.

God came to Balaam, and said, “Who are these men with you?”

And God H430 came H935 (QalImpf) unto Balaam, H1109 and said, H559 (QalImpf) What men H582 [are] these with thee?

And God cometh in unto Balaam, and saith, ‘Who are these men with thee?’

God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak to you, that you shall do.”

And God cometh in unto Balaam, by night, and saith to him, ‘If to call for thee the men have come, rise, go with them, and only the thing which I speak unto thee-it thou dost do.’

Yahweh’s angel said to Balaam, “Go with the men; but you shall only speak the word that I shall speak to you.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Balaam, ‘Go with the men; and only the word which I speak unto thee-it thou dost speak;’ and Balaam goeth with the princes of Balak.

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and he won’t do it? Or has he spoken, and he won’t make it good?

God is not a man-and lieth, And a son of man-and repenteth! Hath He said-and doth He not do it? And spoken-and doth He not confirm it?

Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor.”

And Moses H4872 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the judges H8199 (QalActPtc) of Israel, H3478 Slay H2026 (QalImpv) ye every H376 one H376 his men H582 that were joined H6775 (NiphPtc) unto Baalpeor. H1187

And Moses saith unto the judges of Israel, ‘Slay ye each his men who are joined to Baal-Peor.’

Behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

And lo, a man of the sons of Israel hath come, and bringeth in unto his brethren the Midianitess, before the eyes of Moses, and before the eyes of all the company of the sons of Israel, who are weeping at the opening of the tent of meeting;

He went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stopped among the children of Israel.

and goeth in after the man of Israel unto the hollow place, and pierceth them both, the man of Israel and the woman-unto her belly, and the plague is restrained from the sons of Israel;

Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers’ house among the Simeonites.

And the name of the man of Israel who is smitten, who hath been smitten with the Midianitess, is Zimri son of Salu, prince of the house of a father of the Simeonite;

and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died; at the time the fire devoured two hundred fifty men, and they became a sign.

and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them and Korah, in the death of the company, in the fire consuming the two hundred and fifty men, and they become a sign;

To the more you shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer you shall give the less inheritance. To everyone according to those who were counted of him shall his inheritance be given.

To many H7227 thou shalt give the more H7235 (HiphImpf) inheritance, H5159 and to few H4592 thou shalt give the less H4591 (HiphImpf) inheritance: H5159 to every one H376 shall his inheritance H5159 be given H5414 (HophImpf) according H6310 to those that were numbered H6485 (QalPasPtc) of him.

to the many thou dost increase their inheritance, and to the few thou dost diminish their inheritance; to each according to his numbered ones is given his inheritance.

But among these there was not a man of them who were counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.

But among these there was not a man H376 of them whom Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 the priest H3548 numbered, H6485 (QalPasPtc) when they numbered H6485 (QalPerf) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 in the wilderness H4057 of Sinai. H5514

and among these there hath not been a man of those numbered by Moses, and Aaron the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai,

For Yahweh had said of them, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” There was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

for Jehovah said of them, ‘They do certainly die in the wilderness;’ and there hath not been left of them a man save Caleb son of Jephunneh, and Joshua son of Nun.

You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.

‘And unto the sons of Israel thou dost speak, saying, When a man dieth, and hath no son, then ye have caused his inheritance to pass over to his daughter;

“Let Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

‘Jehovah-God of the spirits of all flesh-appoint a man over the company,

Yahweh said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Take H3947 (QalImpv) thee Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun, H5126 a man H376 in whom [is] the spirit, H7307 and lay H5564 (QalPerf) thine hand H3027 upon him;

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Take to thee Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and thou hast laid thine hand upon him,

When a man vows a vow to Yahweh, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

If a man H376 vow H5087 (QalImpf) a vow H5088 unto the Lord, H3068 or swear H7650 (NiphInf) an oath H7621 to bind H631 (QalInf) his soul H5315 with a bond; H632 he shall not break H2490 (HiphImpf) his word, H1697 he shall do H6213 (QalImpf) according to all that proceedeth H3318 (QalActPtc) out of his mouth. ‘When a man voweth a vow to Jehovah, or hath sworn an oath to bind a bond on his soul, he doth not pollute his word; according to all that is going out from his mouth he doth.

“If she has a husband, while her vows are on her, or the rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound her soul,

And if she had at all an husband, H376 when she vowed, H5088 or uttered H4008 ought out of her lips, H8193 wherewith she bound H631 (QalPerf) her soul; H5315

‘And if she be at all to a husband, and her vows are on her, or a wrongful utterance on her lips, which she hath bound on her soul,

and her husband hears it, and says nothing to her in the day that he hears it; then her vows shall stand, and her pledges with which she has bound her soul shall stand.

And her husband H376 heard H8085 (QalPerf) [it,] and held his peace H2790 (HiphPerf) at her in the day H3117 that he heard H8085 (QalInf) [it]: then her vows H5088 shall stand, H6965 (QalPerf) and her bonds H632 wherewith she bound H631 (QalPerf) her soul H5315 shall stand. H6965 (QalImpf)

and her husband hath heard, and in the day of his hearing, he hath kept silent at her, then have her vows been established, and her bonds which she hath bound on her soul are established.

But if her husband forbids her in the day that he hears it, then he makes void her vow which is on her and the rash utterance of her lips, with which she has bound her soul. Yahweh will forgive her.

But if her husband H376 disallowed H5106 (HiphImpf) her on the day H3117 that he heard H8085 (QalInf) [it]; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, H5088 and that which she uttered H4008 with her lips, H8193 wherewith she bound H631 (QalPerf) her soul, H5315 of none effect: H6565 (HiphPerf) and the Lord H3068 shall forgive H5545 (QalImpf) her.

‘And if in the day of her husband’s hearing he disalloweth her, then he hath broken her vow which is on her, and the wrongful utterance of her lips which she hath bound on her soul, and Jehovah is propitious to her.

“If she vowed in her husband’s house or bound her soul by a bond with an oath,

And if she vowed H5087 (QalPerf) in her husband’s H376 house, H1004 or bound H631 (QalPerf) her soul H5315 by a bond H632 with an oath; H7621

‘And if in the house of her husband she hath vowed, or hath bound a bond on her soul with an oath,

and her husband heard it, and held his peace at her and didn’t disallow her, then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge with which she bound her soul shall stand.

And her husband H376 heard H8085 (QalPerf) [it], and held his peace H2790 (HiphPerf) at her, [and] disallowed H5106 (HiphPerf) her not: then all her vows H5088 shall stand, H6965 (QalImpf) and every bond H632 wherewith she bound H631 (QalPerf) her soul H5315 shall stand. H6965 (QalPerf)

and her husband hath heard, and hath kept silent at her-he hath not disallowed her-then have all her vows been established, and every bond which she hath bound on her soul is established.

But if her husband made them null and void in the day that he heard them, then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand. Her husband has made them void. Yahweh will forgive her.

But if her husband H376 hath utterly H6565 (HiphInf) made them void H6565 (HiphImpf) on the day H3117 he heard H8085 (QalInf) [them; then] whatsoever proceeded H4161 out of her lips H8193 concerning her vows, H5088 or concerning the bond H632 of her soul, H5315 shall not stand: H6965 (QalImpf) her husband H376 hath made them void; H6565 (HiphPerf) and the Lord H3068 shall forgive H5545 (QalImpf) her.

‘And if her husband doth certainly break them in the day of his hearing, none of the outgoing of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, is established-her husband hath broken them-and Jehovah is propitious to her.

Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.

Every vow, H5088 and every binding H632 oath H7621 to afflict H6031 (PielInf) the soul, H5315 her husband H376 may establish H6965 (HiphImpf) it, or her husband H376 may make it void. H6565 (HiphImpf)

‘Every vow and every oath-a bond to humble a soul-her husband doth establish it, or her husband doth break it;

But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he establishes all her vows or all her pledges which are on her. He has established them, because he said nothing to her in the day that he heard them.

But if her husband H376 altogether H2790 (HiphInf) hold his peace H2790 (HiphImpf) at her from day H3117 to day; H3117 then he establisheth H6965 (HiphPerf) all her vows, H5088 or all her bonds, H632 which [are] upon her: he confirmeth H6965 (HiphPerf) them, because he held his peace H2790 (HiphPerf) at her in the day H3117 that he heard H8085 (QalInf) [them].

and if her husband certainly keep silent at her, from day unto day, then he hath established all her vows, or all her bonds which are upon her; he hath established them, for he hath kept silent at her in the day of his hearing;

These are the statutes which Yahweh commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, being in her youth, in her father’s house.

These [are] the statutes, H2706 which the Lord H3068 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) Moses, H4872 between a man H376 and his wife, H802 between the father H1 and his daughter, H1323 [being yet] in her youth H5271 in her father’s H1 house. H1004

These are the statutes which Jehovah hath commanded Moses between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, in her youth, in the house of her father.

Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Yahweh’s vengeance on Midian.

And Moses H4872 spake H1696 (PielImpf) unto the people, H5971 saying, H559 (QalInf) Arm H2502 (NiphImpv) some H582 of yourselves unto the war, H6635 and let them go against the Midianites, H4080 and avenge H5414 (QalInf) H5360 the Lord H3068 of Midian. H4080

And Moses speaketh unto the people, saying, ‘Be ye armed some of you for the host, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of Jehovah on Midian;

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.

Now therefore kill H2026 (QalImpv) every male H2145 among the little ones, H2945 and kill H2026 (QalImpv) every woman H802 that hath known H3045 (QalActPtc) man H376 by lying H4904 with him. H2145

‘And now, slay ye every male among the infants, yea, every woman known of man by the lying of a male ye have slain;

Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, “This is the statute of the law which Yahweh has commanded Moses.

And Eleazar H499 the priest H3548 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the men H582 of war H6635 which went H935 (QalActPtc) to the battle, H4421 This [is] the ordinance H2708 of the law H8451 which the Lord H3068 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) Moses; H4872

And Eleazar the priest saith unto the men of the host who go in to battle, ‘This is the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses:

Levy a tribute to Yahweh of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred; of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks.

And levy H7311 (HiphPerf) a tribute H4371 unto the Lord H3068 of the men H582 of war H4421 which went out H3318 (QalActPtc) to battle: H6635 one H259 soul H5315 of five H2568 hundred, H3967 [both] of the persons, H120 and of the beeves, H1241 and of the asses, H2543 and of the sheep: H6629

and thou hast raised a tribute to Jehovah from the men of war, who go out to the host, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the asses, and of the flock;

Of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided off from the men who fought

And of the children H1121 of Israel’s H3478 half, H4276 which Moses H4872 divided H2673 (QalPerf) from the men H582 that warred, H6633 (QalActPtc)

And of the sons of Israel’s half, which Moses halved from the men who war-

They said to Moses, “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our command, and there lacks not one man of us.

And they said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Thy servants H5650 have taken H5375 (QalPerf) the sum H7218 of the men H582 of war H4421 which [are] under our charge, H3027 and there lacketh H6485 (NiphPerf) not one man H376 of us.

and they say unto Moses, ‘Thy servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who are with us, and not a man of us hath been missed;

We have brought Yahweh’s offering, what every man found: gold ornaments, armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Yahweh.”

We have therefore brought H7126 (HiphImpf) an oblation H7133 for the Lord, H3068 what every man H376 hath gotten, H4672 (QalPerf) of jewels H3627 of gold, H2091 chains, H685 and bracelets, H6781 rings, H2885 earrings, H5694 and tablets, H3558 to make an atonement H3722 (PielInf) for our souls H5315 before H6440 the Lord. H3068

and we bring near Jehovah’s offering, each that which he hath found, vessels of gold-chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, ear-ring, and bead-to make atonement for ourselves before Jehovah.’

The men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.

([For] the men H582 of war H6635 had taken spoil, H962 (QalPerf) every man H376 for himself.)

(the men of the host have spoiled each for himself);

‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me,

Surely H518 none of the men H582 that came up H5927 (QalActPtc) out of Egypt, H4714 from twenty H6242 years H8141 old H1121 and upward, H4605 shall see H7200 (QalImpf) the land H127 which I sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto Abraham, H85 unto Isaac, H3327 and unto Jacob; H3290 because they have not wholly H4390 (PielPerf) followed H310 me:

They do not see-the men who are coming up out of Egypt from a son of twenty years and upward-the ground which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, for they have not been fully after Me;

“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to increase the fierce anger of Yahweh toward Israel.

And, behold, ye are risen up H6965 (QalPerf) in your fathers’ H1 stead, an increase H8635 of sinful H2400 men, H582 to augment H5595 (QalInf) yet the fierce H2740 anger H639 of the Lord H3068 toward Israel. H3478

‘And lo, ye have risen in the stead of your fathers, an increase of men-sinners, to add yet to the fury of the anger of Jehovah toward Israel;

We will not return to our houses until the children of Israel have all received their inheritance.

We will not return H7725 (QalImpf) unto our houses, H1004 until the children H1121 of Israel H3478 have inherited H5157 (HithInf) every man H376 his inheritance. H5159

we do not turn back unto our houses till the sons of Israel have inherited each his inheritance,

“These are the names of the men who shall divide the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun.

These [are] the names H8034 of the men H582 which shall divide H5157 (QalImpf) the land H776 unto you: Eleazar H499 the priest, H3548 and Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun. H5126

‘These are the names of the men who give to you the inheritance of the land: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun,

These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

And the names H8034 of the men H582 [are] these: Of the tribe H4294 of Judah, H3063 Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh. H3312

‘And these are the names of the men: of the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;

Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many, and from the few you shall take few. Everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give some of his cities to the Levites.”

And the cities H5892 which ye shall give H5414 (QalImpf) [shall be] of the possession H272 of the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 from [them that have] many H7227 ye shall give many; H7235 (HiphImpf) but from [them that have] few H4592 ye shall give few: H4591 (HiphImpf) every one H376 shall give H5414 (QalImpf) of his cities H5892 unto the Levites H3881 according H6310 to his inheritance H5159 which he inheriteth. H5157 (QalImpf)

And the cities which ye give are of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.’

So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel move from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall all keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

So shall not the inheritance H5159 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 remove H5437 (NiphImpf) from tribe H4294 to tribe: H4294 for every one H376 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall keep H1692 (QalImpf) himself to the inheritance H5159 of the tribe H4294 of his fathers. H1

and the inheritance of the sons of Israel doth not turn round from tribe unto tribe; for each to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers, do the sons of Israel cleave.

Every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers.

And every daughter, H1323 that possesseth H3423 (QalActPtc) an inheritance H5159 in any tribe H4294 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 shall be wife H802 unto one H259 of the family H4940 of the tribe H4294 of her father, H1 that the children H1121 of Israel H3478 may enjoy H3423 (QalImpf) every man H376 the inheritance H5159 of his fathers. H1

‘And every daughter possessing an inheritance, of the tribes of the sons of Israel, is to one of the family of the tribe of her father for a wife, so that the sons of Israel possess each the inheritance of his fathers,

So shall no inheritance move from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall each keep his own inheritance.’ ”

Neither shall the inheritance H5159 remove H5437 (NiphImpf) from [one] tribe H4294 to another H312 tribe; H4294 but every one H376 of the tribes H4294 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall keep H1692 (QalImpf) himself to his own inheritance. H5159

and the inheritance doth not turn round from one tribe to another tribe; for each to his inheritance do they cleave, the tribes of the sons of Israel.’
