My servants will bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you specify to me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you will receive them. You will accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.”

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?

τι γαρ μελει τω κυριω εαν συ ησθα τοις εργοις αμεμπτος η ωφελεια οτι απλωσης την οδον σου

“If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

αδυνατοι δε χρειαν ην ποτ ειχον ουκ απετυχον χηρας δε τον οφθαλμον ουκ εξετηξα

but his delight is in Yahweh’s^§ law. On his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:2 “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “Lord” (all caps) in other translations.

Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.

^[110:2] μεγαλα τα εργα κυριου εξεζητημενα εις παντα τα θεληματα αυτου

She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.

τιμιωτερα δε εστιν λιθων πολυτελων ουκ αντιταξεται αυτη ουδεν πονηρον ευγνωστος εστιν πασιν τοις εγγιζουσιν αυτη παν δε τιμιον ουκ αξιον αυτης εστιν

For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it.

For wisdom H2451 [is] better H2896 than rubies; H6443 and all the things that may be desired H2656 are not to be compared H7737 (QalImpf) to it.

κρεισσων γαρ σοφια λιθων πολυτελων παν δε τιμιον ουκ αξιον αυτης εστιν

She seeks wool and flax, and works eagerly with her hands.

μηρυομενη ερια και λινον εποιησεν ευχρηστον ταις χερσιν αυτης

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:

When you vow a vow to God, don’t defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you vow.

If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.

^[5:7] εαν συκοφαντιαν πενητος και αρπαγην κριματος και δικαιοσυνης ιδης εν χωρα μη θαυμασης επι τω πραγματι οτι υψηλος επανω υψηλου φυλαξαι και υψηλοι επ αυτους

For there is a time and procedure for every purpose, although the misery of man is heavy on him.

Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them;”

Yet it pleased Yahweh to bruise him. He has caused him to suffer. When you make his soul an offering for sin, he will see his offspring. He will prolong his days and Yahweh’s pleasure will prosper in his hand.

You will not be called Forsaken any more, nor will your land be called Desolate any more; but you will be called Hephzibah,° and your land Beulah;° for Yahweh delights in you, and your land will be married.

Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel? Is he a vessel in which no one delights? Why are they cast out, he and his offspring, and cast into a land which they don’t know?

On all the housetops of Moab, and in its streets, there is lamentation everywhere; for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which no one delights,” says Yahweh.

“All nations shall call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says Yahweh of Armies.
