[1] Let’s fear therefore, lest perhaps anyone of you should seem to have come short of a promise of entering into his rest. [2] For indeed we have had good news preached to us, even as they also did, but the word they heard didn’t profit them, because it wasn’t mixed with faith by those who heard. [3] For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest;”† although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. [4] For he has said this somewhere about the seventh day, “God rested on the seventh day from all his works;”† [5] and in this place again, “They will not enter into my rest.”† [6] Seeing therefore it remains that some should enter into it, and they to whom the good news was preached before failed to enter in because of disobedience, [7] he again defines a certain day, “today”, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said),
“Today if you will hear his voice,
don’t harden your hearts.”† [8] For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. [9] There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. [10] For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. [11] Let’s therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience. [12] For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. [13] There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account. [14] Having then a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let’s hold tightly to our confession. [15] For we don’t have a high priest who can’t be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. [16] Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.

King James Version
[1] Let usG5399 thereforeG3767 fear,G5399(AorPasDepSubj) lest,G3379 a promiseG1860 being leftG2641(PresPasPtc) [us] of enteringG1525(Aor2ActInf) intoG1519 hisG846 rest,G2663 anyG5100 ofG1537 youG5216 should seemG1380(PresActSubj) to come short of it.G5302(PerfActInf) [2] ForG2532 unto us wasG2070(PresInd) the gospel preached,G2097(PerfPasPtc) as well asG2509 unto them:G2548 butG235 the wordG3056 preachedG189 didG5623 notG3756 profitG5623(AorActInd) them,G1565 notG3361 being mixedG4786(PerfPasPtc) with faithG4102 in them that heardG191(AorActPtc) [it]. [3] ForG1063 we whichG3588 have believedG4100(AorActPtc) do enterG1525(PresMidPasDepInd) intoG1519 rest,G2663 asG2531 he said,G2046(PerfActInd) AsG5613 I have swornG3660(AorActInd) inG1722 myG3450 wrath,G3709 ifG1487 they shall enterG1525(FutMidDepInd) intoG1519 myG3450 rest:G2663 althoughG2543 the worksG2041 were finishedG1096(AorPasDepPtc) fromG575 the foundationG2602 of the world.G2889 [4] ForG1063 he spakeG2046(PerfActInd) in a certain placeG4225 ofG4012 the seventhG1442 [day] on this wise,G3779 AndG2532 GodG2316 did restG2664(AorActInd) the seventhG1722 dayG2250 fromG575 allG3956 hisG846 works.G2041 [5] AndG2532 inG1722 thisG5129 [place] again,G3825 IfG1487 they shall enterG1525(FutMidDepInd) intoG1519 myG3450 rest.G2663 [6] SeeingG1893 thereforeG3767 it remainethG620(PresPasInd) that someG5100 must enterG1525(Aor2ActInf) therein,G1519 andG2532 they to whom it was firstG4386 preachedG2097(AorPasPtc) enteredG1525 notG3756 inG1525(Aor2ActInd) becauseG1223 of unbelief:G543 [7] Again,G3825 he limitethG3724(PresActInd) a certainG5100 day,G2250 sayingG3004(PresActPtc) inG1722 David,G1138 To day,G4594 afterG3326 so longG5118 a time;G5550 asG2531 it is said,G2046(PerfPasInd) To dayG4594 ifG1437 ye will hearG191(AorActSubj) hisG846 voice,G5456 hardenG4645(PresActSubj) notG3361 yourG5216 hearts.G2588 [8] ForG1063 ifG1487 JesusG2424 had givenG2664 themG846 rest,G2664(AorActInd) then would heG302 notG3756 afterwardG3326 have spokenG2980(ImpfActInd) ofG4012 anotherG243 day.G2250 [9] There remainethG620(PresPasInd) thereforeG686 a restG4520 to the peopleG2992 of God.G2316 [10] ForG1063 he that is enteredG1525(Aor2ActPtc) intoG1519 hisG846 rest,G2663 heG846 alsoG2532 hath ceasedG2664(AorActInd) fromG575 his ownG846 works,G2041 asG5618 GodG2316 [did] fromG575 his.G2398 [11] Let us labourG4704(AorActSubj) thereforeG3767 to enterG1525(Aor2ActInf) intoG1519 thatG1565 rest,G2663 lestG3363 any manG5100 fallG4098(Aor2ActSubj) afterG1722 the sameG846 exampleG5262 of unbelief.G543 [12] ForG1063 the wordG3056 of GodG2316 [is] quick,G2198(PresActPtc) andG2532 powerful,G1756 andG2532 sharperG5114 thanG5228 anyG3956 twoedgedG1366 sword,G3162 piercingG1338(PresMidPasDepPtc) even toG891 the dividing asunderG3311 of soulG5590 andG5037 spirit,G4151 andG5037 of the jointsG719 andG2532 marrow,G3452 andG2532 [is] a discernerG2924 of the thoughtsG1761 andG2532 intentsG1771 of the heart.G2588 [13] NeitherG2532 is thereG2076(PresInd) any creatureG2937 that is not manifestG852 in hisG846 sight:G1799 butG1161 all thingsG3956 [are] nakedG1131 andG2532 openedG5136(PerfPasPtc) unto the eyesG3788 of himG846 withG4314 whomG3739 we haveG2254 to do.G3056 [14] SeeingG2192 thenG3767 that we haveG2192(PresActPtc) a greatG3173 high priest,G749 that is passed intoG1330(Perf2ActPtc) the heavens,G3772 JesusG2424 the SonG5207 of God,G2316 let us hold fastG2902(PresActSubj) [our] profession.G3671 [15] ForG1063 we haveG2192(PresActInd) notG3756 an high priestG749 which cannotG3361 be touched with the feelingG4834(AorActInf) of ourG2257 infirmities;G769 butG1161 wasG3985 inG2596 all pointsG3956 temptedG3985(PerfPasPtc) likeG2596 asG3665 [we are, yet] withoutG5565 sin.G266 [16] Let usG4334 thereforeG3767 comeG4334(PresMidPasDepSubj) boldlyG3326 unto the throneG2362 of grace,G5485 thatG2443 we may obtainG2983(Aor2ActSubj) mercy,G1656 andG2532 findG2147(Aor2ActSubj) graceG5485 to helpG996 inG1519 time of need.G2121
