Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the middle of Ephraim, and in the middle of Manasseh.”

And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fighteth with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, ‘Fugitives of Ephraim are ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim-in the midst of Manasseh.’

The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. Whenever a fugitive of Ephraim said, “Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No;”

And Gilead captureth the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it hath been, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim say, ‘Let me pass over,’ and the men of Gilead say to him, ‘An Ephramite thou?’ and he saith, ‘No;’

There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and childless.

And there was a certain H259 man H376 of Zorah, H6881 of the family H4940 of the Danites, H1839 whose name H8034 [was] Manoah; H4495 and his wife H802 [was] barren, H6135 and bare H3205 (QalPerf) not.

And there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name is Manoah, his wife is barren, and hath not borne;

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name;

And the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, ‘A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance is as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he is, and his name he hath not declared to me;

Then Manoah entreated Yahweh, and said, “Oh, Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us, and teach us what we should do to the child who shall be born.”

And Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, ‘O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.’

God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field; but Manoah, her husband, wasn’t with her.

And God H430 hearkened H8085 (QalImpf) to the voice H6963 of Manoah; H4495 and the angel H4397 of God H430 came again H935 (QalImpf) unto the woman H802 as she sat H3427 (QalActPtc) in the field: H7704 but Manoah H4495 her husband H376 [was] not with her.

And God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she is sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

The woman hurried and ran, and told her husband, saying to him, “Behold, the man who came to me that day has appeared to me.”

And the woman H802 made haste, H4116 (PielImpf) and ran, H7323 (QalImpf) and shewed H5046 (HiphImpf) her husband, H376 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold, the man H376 hath appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) unto me, that came H935 (QalPerf) unto me the [other] day. H3117

and the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, ‘Lo, he hath appeared unto me-the man who came on that day unto me.’

Manoah arose and followed his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” He said, “I am.”

And Manoah H4495 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) after H310 his wife, H802 and came H935 (QalImpf) to the man, H376 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, [Art] thou the man H376 that spakest H1696 (PielPerf) unto the woman? H802 And he said, H559 (QalImpf) I [am].

And Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, ‘Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?’ and he saith, ‘I am.’

On the seventh day, they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Isn’t that so?”

And it came to pass on the seventh H7637 day, H3117 that they said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samson’s H8123 wife, H802 Entice H6601 (PielImpv) thy husband, H376 that he may declare H5046 (HiphImpf) unto us the riddle, H2420 lest we burn H8313 (QalImpf) thee and thy father’s H1 house H1004 with fire: H784 have ye called H7121 (QalPerf) us to take that we have? And it cometh to pass, on the seventh day, that they say to Samson’s wife, ‘Entice thy husband, that he declare to us the riddle, lest we burn thee and the house of thy father with fire; to possess us have ye called for us? is it not?’

The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”

And the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goeth in:- ‘What is sweeter than honey? And what stronger than a lion?’ And he saith to them: ‘Unless ye had ploughed with my heifer, Ye had not found out my riddle.’

Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck thirty men of them. He took their plunder, then gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.

And the Spirit H7307 of the Lord H3068 came H6743 (QalImpf) upon him, and he went down H3381 (QalImpf) to Ashkelon, H831 and slew H5221 (HiphImpf) thirty H7970 men H376 of them, and took H3947 (QalImpf) their spoil, H2488 and gave H5414 (QalImpf) change H2487 of garments unto them which expounded H5046 (HiphPtc) the riddle. H2420 And his anger H639 was kindled, H2734 (QalImpf) and he went up H5927 (QalImpf) to his father’s H1 house. H1004

And the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and he goeth down to Ashkelon, and smiteth of them thirty men, and taketh their armour, and giveth the changes to those declaring the riddle; and his anger burneth, and he goeth up to the house of his father;

The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”

And the men H376 of Judah H3063 said, H559 (QalImpf) Why are ye come up H5927 (QalPerf) against us? And they answered, H559 (QalImpf) To bind H631 (QalInf) Samson H8123 are we come up, H5927 (QalPerf) to do H6213 (QalInf) to him as he hath done H6213 (QalPerf) to us.

and the men of Judah say, ‘Why have ye come up against us?’ and they say, ‘To bind Samson we have come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.’

Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cave in Etam’s rock, and said to Samson, “Don’t you know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” He said to them, “As they did to me, so I have done to them.”

And three thousand men of Judah go down unto the cleft of the rock Etam, and say to Samson, ‘Hast thou now known that the Philistines are rulers over us? and what is this thou hast done to us?’ And he saith to them, ‘As they did to me, so I did to them.’

He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, put out his hand, took it, and struck a thousand men with it.

And he found H4672 (QalImpf) a new H2961 jawbone H3895 of an ass, H2543 and put forth H7971 (QalImpf) his hand, H3027 and took H3947 (QalImpf) it, and slew H5221 (HiphImpf) a thousand H505 men H376 therewith.

and he findeth a fresh jaw-bone of an ass, and putteth forth his hand and taketh it, and smiteth with it-a thousand men.

Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps on heaps; with the jawbone of a donkey I have struck a thousand men.”

And Samson H8123 said, H559 (QalImpf) With the jawbone H3895 of an ass, H2543 heaps H2565 upon heaps, H2565 with the jaw H3895 of an ass H2543 have I slain H5221 (HiphPerf) a thousand H505 men. H376

And Samson saith, ‘With a jaw-bone of the ass-an ass upon asses-with a jaw-bone of the ass I have smitten a thousand men.’

The lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”

And the lords H5633 of the Philistines H6430 came up H5927 (QalImpf) unto her, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto her, Entice H6601 (PielImpv) him, and see H7200 (QalImpv) wherein his great H1419 strength H3581 [lieth], and by what [means] we may prevail H3201 (QalImpf) against him, that we may bind H631 (QalPerf) him to afflict H6031 (PielInf) him: and we will give H5414 (QalImpf) thee every one H376 of us eleven hundred H505 H3967 [pieces] of silver. and the princes of the Philistines come up unto her, and say to her, ‘Entice him, and see wherein his great power is, and wherein we are able for him-and we have bound him to afflict him, and we-we give to thee, each one, eleven hundred silverlings.’

She made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

And she maketh him sleep on her knees, and calleth for a man, and shaveth the seven locks of his head, and beginneth to afflict him, and his power turneth aside from off him;

Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were on the roof about three thousand men and women, who saw while Samson performed.

Now the house H1004 was full H4390 (QalPerf) of men H582 and women; H802 and all the lords H5633 of the Philistines H6430 [were] there; and [there were] upon the roof H1406 about three H7969 thousand H505 men H376 and women, H802 that beheld H7200 (QalActPtc) while Samson H8123 made sport. And the house hath been full of men and of women, and thither are all the princes of the Philistines, and on the roof are about three thousand men and women, who are looking on the playing of Samson.

There was a man of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Micah.

And there was a man H376 of mount H2022 Ephraim, H669 whose name H8034 [was] Micah. H4321

And there is a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name is Micah,

The man Micah had a house of gods, and he made an ephod, and teraphim,° and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

Judges 17:5 teraphim were household idols that may have been associated with inheritance rights to the household property.

And the man H376 Micah H4318 had an house H1004 of gods, H430 and made H6213 (QalImpf) an ephod, H646 and teraphim, H8655 and consecrated H4390 (PielImpf) H3027 one H259 of his sons, H1121 who became his priest. H3548

As to the man Micah, he hath a house of gods, and he maketh an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrateth the hand of one of his sons, and he is to him for a priest;

In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes.

In those days H3117 [there was] no king H4428 in Israel, H3478 [but] every man H376 did H6213 (QalImpf) [that which was] right H3477 in his own eyes. H5869

in those days there is no king in Israel, each that which is right in his own eyes doth.

The man departed out of the city, out of Bethlehem Judah, to live where he could find a place, and he came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, as he traveled.

And the man H376 departed H3212 (QalImpf) out of the city H5892 from Bethlehemjudah H1035 H3063 to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) where he could find H4672 (QalImpf) [a place]: and he came H935 (QalImpf) to mount H2022 Ephraim H669 to the house H1004 of Micah, H4318 as he journeyed. H6213 (QalInf) H1870

And the man goeth out of the city, out of Beth-Lehem-Judah, to sojourn where he doth find, and cometh to the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, to work his way.

The Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was to him as one of his sons.

And the Levite H3881 was content H2974 (HiphImpf) to dwell H3427 (QalInf) with the man; H376 and the young man H5288 was unto him as one H259 of his sons. H1121

And the Levite is willing to dwell with the man, and the young man is to him as one of his sons.

The children of Dan sent five men of their family from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. They said to them, “Go, explore the land!” They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

And the children H1121 of Dan H1835 sent H7971 (QalImpf) of their family H4940 five H2568 men H582 from their coasts, H7098 men H1121 of valour, H2428 from Zorah, H6881 and from Eshtaol, H847 to spy H7270 (PielInf) out the land, H776 and to search H2713 (QalInf) it; and they said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Go, H3212 (QalImpv) search H2713 (QalImpv) the land: H776 who when they came H935 (QalImpf) to mount H2022 Ephraim, H669 to the house H1004 of Micah, H4318 they lodged H3885 (QalImpf) there.

And the sons of Dan send, out of their family, five men of them, men, sons of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to traverse the land, and to search it, and they say unto them, ‘Go, search the land;’ and they come into the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodge there.

Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in safety, in the way of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was no one in the land possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with anyone else.

Then the five H2568 men H582 departed, H3212 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) to Laish, H3919 and saw H7200 (QalImpf) the people H5971 that [were] therein, H7130 how they dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) careless, H983 after the manner H4941 of the Zidonians, H6722 quiet H8252 (QalActPtc) and secure; H982 (QalActPtc) and [there was] no magistrate H3423 (QalActPtc) H6114 in the land, H776 that might put [them] to shame H3637 (HiphPtc) in [any] thing; H1697 and they [were] far H7350 from the Zidonians, H6722 and had no business H1697 with [any] man. H120

And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which is in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in any thing, possessing restraint, and they are far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with any man.

The family of the Danites set out from Zorah and Eshtaol with six hundred men armed with weapons of war.

And there went H5265 (QalImpf) from thence of the family H4940 of the Danites, H1839 out of Zorah H6881 and out of Eshtaol, H847 six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 appointed H2296 (QalPasPtc) with weapons H3627 of war. H4421

And there journey thence, of the family of the Danite, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war.

Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish answered and said to their brothers, “Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim,° and a carved image, and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you have to do.”

And the five men, those going to traverse the land of Laish, answer and say unto their brethren, ‘Have ye known that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and graven image, and molten image? and now, know what ye do.’

The six hundred men armed with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.

And the six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 appointed H2296 (QalPasPtc) with their weapons H3627 of war, H4421 which [were] of the children H1121 of Dan, H1835 stood H5324 (NiphPtc) by the entering H6607 of the gate. H8179

(and the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who are of the sons of Dan, are standing at the opening of the gate),-

The five men who went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men armed with weapons of war.

And the five H2568 men H582 that went H1980 (QalActPtc) to spy out H7270 (PielInf) the land H776 went up, H5927 (QalImpf) [and] came in H935 (QalPerf) thither, [and] took H3947 (QalPerf) the graven image, H6459 and the ephod, H646 and the teraphim, H8655 and the molten image: H4541 and the priest H3548 stood H5324 (NiphPtc) in the entering H6607 of the gate H8179 with the six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 [that were] appointed H2296 (QalPasPtc) with weapons H3627 of war. H4421

yea, the five men, those going to traverse the land, go up-they have come in thither-they have taken the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image-and the priest is standing at the opening of the gate, and the six hundred men who are girded with weapons of war-

They said to him, “Hold your peace, put your hand on your mouth, and go with us. Be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?”

And they said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Hold thy peace, H2790 (HiphImpv) lay H7760 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 upon thy mouth, H6310 and go H3212 (QalImpv) with us, and be to us H1961 (QalInf) a father H1 and a priest: H3548 [is it] better H2896 for thee to be a priest H3548 unto the house H1004 of one H259 man, H376 or that thou be a priest H3548 unto a tribe H7626 and a family H4940 in Israel? H3478

and they say to him, ‘Keep silent, lay thy hand on thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us for a father and for a priest: is it better thy being a priest to the house of one man, or thy being priest to a tribe and to a family in Israel?’

When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house gathered together and overtook the children of Dan.

[And] when they were a good way H7368 (HiphPerf) from the house H1004 of Micah, H4318 the men H582 that [were] in the houses H1004 near to Micah’s H4318 house H1004 were gathered together, H2199 (NiphPerf) and overtook H1692 (HiphImpf) the children H1121 of Dan. H1835

They have been far off from the house of Micah-and the men who are in the houses which are near the house of Micah have been called together, and overtake the sons of Dan,

The children of Dan said to him, “Don’t let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall on you, and you lose your life, with the lives of your household.”

And the children H1121 of Dan H1835 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Let not thy voice H6963 be heard H8085 (HiphImpf) among us, lest angry H4751 H5315 fellows H582 run H6293 (QalImpf) upon thee, and thou lose H622 (QalPerf) thy life, H5315 with the lives H5315 of thy household. H1004

And the sons of Dan say unto him, ‘Let not thy voice be heard with us, lest men bitter in soul fall upon you, and thou hast gathered thy life, and the life of thy household;’

In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who took for himself a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah.

And it came to pass in those days, H3117 when [there was] no king H4428 in Israel, H3478 that there was a certain H376 Levite H3881 sojourning H1481 (QalActPtc) on the side H3411 of mount H2022 Ephraim, H669 who took H3947 (QalImpf) to him a concubine H802 H6370 out of Bethlehemjudah. H1035 H3063

And it cometh to pass, in those days, when there is no king in Israel, that there is a man a Levite, a sojourner in the sides of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he taketh to him a wife, a concubine, out of Beth-Lehem-Judah;

Her husband arose and went after her to speak kindly to her, to bring her again, having his servant with him and a couple of donkeys. She brought him into her father’s house; and when the father of the young lady saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

And her husband H376 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) after H310 her, to speak H1696 (PielInf) friendly H3820 unto her, [and] to bring her again, H7725 (HiphInf) having his servant H5288 with him, and a couple H6776 of asses: H2543 and she brought H935 (HiphImpf) him into her father’s H1 house: H1004 and when the father H1 of the damsel H5291 saw H7200 (QalImpf) him, he rejoiced H8055 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) him.

And her husband riseth and goeth after her, to speak unto her heart, to bring her back, and his young man is with him, and a couple of asses; and she bringeth him into the house of her father, and the father of the young woman seeth him, and rejoiceth to meet him.

So they sat down, ate, and drank, both of them together. Then the young lady’s father said to the man, “Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry.”

And they sat down, H3427 (QalImpf) and did eat H398 (QalImpf) and drink H8354 (QalImpf) both H8147 of them together: H3162 for the damsel’s H5291 father H1 had said H559 (QalImpf) unto the man, H376 Be content, H2974 (HiphImpv) I pray thee, and tarry all night, H3885 (QalImpv) and let thine heart H3820 be merry. And they sit and eat both of them together, and drink, and the father of the young woman saith unto the man, ‘Be willing, I pray thee, and lodge all night, and let thy heart be glad.’

The man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law urged him, and he stayed there again.

And when the man H376 rose up H6965 (QalImpf) to depart, H3212 (QalInf) his father in law H2859 (QalActPtc) urged H6484 (QalImpf) him: therefore he lodged H3885 (QalImpf) there again. H7725 (QalImpf)

And the man riseth to go, and his father-in-law presseth on him, and he turneth back and lodgeth there.

When the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the young lady’s father, said to him, “Behold, now the day draws toward evening, please stay all night. Behold, the day is ending. Stay here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go on your way early, that you may go home.”

And the man riseth to go, he and his concubine, and his young man, and his father-in-law, father of the young woman, saith to him, ‘Lo, I pray thee, the day hath fallen toward evening, lodge all night, I pray thee; lo, the declining of the day! lodge here, and let thine heart be glad-and ye have risen early to-morrow for your journey, and thou hast gone to thy tent.’

But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went near Jebus (also called Jerusalem). With him were a couple of saddled donkeys. His concubine also was with him.

But the man H376 would H14 (QalPerf) not tarry that night, H3885 (QalInf) but he rose up H6965 (QalImpf) and departed, H3212 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) over against H5227 Jebus, H2982 which [is] Jerusalem; H3389 and [there were] with him two H6776 asses H2543 saddled, H2280 (QalPasPtc) his concubine H6370 also [was] with him.

And the man hath not been willing to lodge all night, and he riseth, and goeth, and cometh in till over-against Jebus (It is Jerusalem), and with him are a couple of asses saddled; and his concubine is with him.

They went over there, to go in to stay in Gibeah. He went in, and sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who took them into his house to stay.

And they turned aside H5493 (QalImpf) thither, to go in H935 (QalInf) [and] to lodge H3885 (QalInf) in Gibeah: H1390 and when he went in, H935 (QalImpf) he sat him down H3427 (QalImpf) in a street H7339 of the city: H5892 for [there was] no man H376 that took H622 (PielPtc) them into his house H1004 to lodging. and they turn aside there to go in to lodge in Gibeah, and he goeth in and sitteth in a broad place of the city, and there is no man gathering them into the house to lodge.

Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.

And, behold, there came H935 (QalPerf) an old H2205 man H376 from his work H4639 out of the field H7704 at even, H6153 which [was] also H376 of mount H2022 Ephraim; H669 and he sojourned H1481 (QalPerf) in Gibeah: H1390 but the men H582 of the place H4725 [were] Benjamites. H1145

And lo, a man, an aged one, hath come from his work from the field in the evening, and the man is of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he is a sojourner in Gibeah, and the men of the place are Benjamites.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”

And when he had lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) his eyes, H5869 he saw H7200 (QalImpf) a wayfaring H732 (QalActPtc) man H376 in the street H7339 of the city: H5892 and the old H2205 man H376 said, H559 (QalImpf) Whither goest H3212 (QalImpf) thou? and whence H370 comest H935 (QalImpf) thou?

And he lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the man, the traveller, in a broad place of the city, and the aged man saith, ‘Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?’

He said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem Judah to the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim. I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem Judah. I am going to Yahweh’s house; and there is no one who has taken me into his house.

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, We [are] passing H5674 (QalActPtc) from Bethlehemjudah H1035 H3063 toward the side H3411 of mount H2022 Ephraim; H669 from thence [am] I: and I went H3212 (QalImpf) to Bethlehemjudah, H1035 H3063 but I [am now] going H1980 (QalActPtc) to the house H1004 of the Lord; H3068 and there [is] no man H376 that receiveth H622 (PielPtc) me to house. And he saith unto him, ‘We are passing over from Beth-Lehem-Judah unto the sides of the hill-country of Ephraim-thence I am, and I go unto Beth-Lehem-Judah; and to the house of Jehovah I am going, and there is no man gathering me into the house,

The old man said, “Peace be to you! Just let me supply all your needs, but don’t sleep in the street.”

And the old H2205 man H376 said, H559 (QalImpf) Peace H7965 [be] with thee; howsoever H7535 [let] all thy wants H4270 [lie] upon me; only lodge H3885 (QalImpf) not in the street. H7339

And the old man saith, ‘Peace to thee; only, all thy lack is on me, only in the broad place lodge not.’

As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain wicked fellows, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we can have sex with him!”

They are making their heart glad, and lo, men of the city, men-sons of worthlessness-have gone round about the house, beating on the door, and they speak unto the old man, the master of the house, saying, ‘Bring out the man who hath come unto thine house, and we know him.’

The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.

And the man, H376 the master H1167 of the house, H1004 went out H3318 (QalImpf) unto them, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Nay, H408 my brethren, H251 [nay], I pray you, do not [so] wickedly; H7489 (HiphImpf) seeing H310 that this man H376 is come H935 (QalPerf) into mine house, H1004 do H6213 (QalImpf) not this folly. And the man, the master of the house, goeth out unto them, and saith unto them, ‘Nay, my brethren, do not evil, I pray you, after that this man hath come in unto my house, do not this folly;

Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine. I will bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them what seems good to you; but to this man don’t do any such folly.”

lo, my daughter, the virgin, and his concubine, let me bring them out, I pray you, and humble ye them, and do to them that which is good in your eyes, and to this man do not this foolish thing.’

But the men wouldn’t listen to him; so the man grabbed his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they had sex with her, and abused her all night until the morning. When the day began to dawn, they let her go.

But the men H582 would H14 (QalPerf) not hearken H8085 (QalInf) to him: so the man H376 took H2388 (HiphImpf) his concubine, H6370 and brought H3318 (HiphImpf) her forth H2351 unto them; and they knew H3045 (QalImpf) her, and abused H5953 (HithImpf) her all the night H3915 until the morning: H1242 and when the day H7837 began to spring, H5927 (QalInf) they let her go. And the men have not been willing to hearken to him, and the man taketh hold on his concubine, and bringeth her out unto them without, and they know her, and roll themselves upon her all the night, till the morning, and send her away in the ascending of the dawn;

Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, until it was light.

and the woman cometh in at the turning of the morning, and falleth at the opening of the man’s house, where her lord is, till the light.

He said to her, “Get up, and let’s get going!” but no one answered. Then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and went to his place.

and he saith unto her, ‘Rise, and we go;’ and there is none answering, and he taketh her on the ass, and the man riseth and goeth to his place,

Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to Yahweh at Mizpah.

Then all the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went out, H3318 (QalImpf) and the congregation H5712 was gathered together H6950 (NiphImpf) as one H259 man, H376 from Dan H1835 even to Beersheba, H884 with the land H776 of Gilead, H1568 unto the Lord H3068 in Mizpeh. H4709

And all the sons of Israel go out, and the company is assembled as one man, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and the land of Gilead, unto Jehovah, at Mizpeh.
