The three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David; but he would not drink of it, but poured it out to Yahweh.

The people who were encamped heard that Zimri had conspired, and had also killed the king. Therefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp.

και ηκουσεν ο λαος εν τη παρεμβολη λεγοντων συνεστραφη ζαμβρι και επαισεν τον βασιλεα και εβασιλευσαν εν ισραηλ τον αμβρι τον ηγουμενον της στρατιας επι ισραηλ εν τη ημερα εκεινη εν τη παρεμβολη

A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn around, and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”

και ενετεινεν εις το τοξον ευστοχως και επαταξεν τον βασιλεα ισραηλ ανα μεσον του πνευμονος και ανα μεσον του θωρακος και ειπεν τω ηνιοχω αυτου επιστρεψον τας χειρας σου και εξαγαγε με εκ του πολεμου οτι τετρωμαι

A cry went throughout the army about the going down of the sun, saying, “Every man to his city, and every man to his country!”

And there went H5674 (QalImpf) a proclamation H7440 throughout the host H4264 about the going down H935 (QalInf) of the sun, H8121 saying, H559 (QalInf) Every man H376 to his city, H5892 and every man H376 to his own country. H776

και εστη ο στρατοκηρυξ δυνοντος του ηλιου λεγων εκαστος εις την εαυτου πολιν και εις την εαυτου γην

So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched for seven days along a circuitous route. There was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them.

When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land attacking the Moabites.

και εισηλθον εις την παρεμβολην ισραηλ και ισραηλ ανεστησαν και επαταξαν την μωαβ και εφυγον απο προσωπου αυτων και εισηλθον εισπορευομενοι και τυπτοντες την μωαβ

He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, “See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.”

After this, Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria.

And it came to pass after this, H310 that Benhadad H1130 king H4428 of Syria H758 gathered H6908 (QalImpf) all his host, H4264 and went up, H5927 (QalImpf) and besieged H6696 (QalImpf) Samaria. H8111

και εγενετο μετα ταυτα και ηθροισεν υιος αδερ βασιλευς συριας πασαν την παρεμβολην αυτου και ανεβη και περιεκαθισεν σαμαρειαν

If we say, ‘We will enter into the city,’ then the famine is in the city, and we will die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let’s surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die.”

εαν ειπωμεν εισελθωμεν εις την πολιν και ο λιμος εν τη πολει και αποθανουμεθα εκει και εαν καθισωμεν ωδε και αποθανουμεθα και νυν δευτε και εμπεσωμεν εις την παρεμβολην συριας εαν ζωογονησωσιν ημας και ζησομεθα και εαν θανατωσωσιν ημας και αποθανουμεθα

They rose up in the twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, no man was there.

And they rose up H6965 (QalImpf) in the twilight, H5399 to go H935 (QalInf) unto the camp H4264 of the Syrians: H758 and when they were come H935 (QalImpf) to the uttermost part H7097 of the camp H4264 of Syria, H758 behold, [there was] no man H376 there.

και ανεστησαν εν τω σκοτει εισελθειν εις την παρεμβολην συριας και ηλθον εις μερος της παρεμβολης συριας και ιδου ουκ εστιν ανηρ εκει

For the Lord^§ had made the army of the Syrians to hear the sound of chariots and the sound of horses, even the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us.”

Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drank, then carried away silver, gold, and clothing and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent and carried things from there also, and went and hid them.

And when these lepers H6879 (PualPtc) came H935 (QalImpf) to the uttermost part H7097 of the camp, H4264 they went H935 (QalImpf) into one H259 tent, H168 and did eat H398 (QalImpf) and drink, H8354 (QalImpf) and carried H5375 (QalImpf) thence silver, H3701 and gold, H2091 and raiment, H899 and went H3212 (QalImpf) and hid H2934 (HiphImpf) [it]; and came again, H7725 (QalImpf) and entered H935 (QalImpf) into another H312 tent, H168 and carried H5375 (QalImpf) thence [also], and went H3212 (QalImpf) and hid H2934 (HiphImpf) [it].

και εισηλθον οι λεπροι ουτοι εως μερους της παρεμβολης και εισηλθον εις σκηνην μιαν και εφαγον και επιον και ηραν εκειθεν αργυριον και χρυσιον και ιματισμον και επορευθησαν και επεστρεψαν και εισηλθον εις σκηνην αλλην και ελαβον εκειθεν και επορευθησαν και κατεκρυψαν

So they came and called to the city gatekeepers; and they told them, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, not even a man’s voice, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were.”

So they came H935 (QalImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) unto the porter H7778 of the city: H5892 and they told H5046 (HiphImpf) them, saying, H559 (QalInf) We came H935 (QalPerf) to the camp H4264 of the Syrians, H758 and, behold, [there was] no man H376 there, neither voice H6963 of man, H120 but horses H5483 tied, H631 (QalPasPtc) and asses H2543 tied, H631 (QalPasPtc) and the tents H168 as they [were].

The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, “I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.’ ”

And the king H4428 arose H6965 (QalImpf) in the night, H3915 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto his servants, H5650 I will now shew H5046 (HiphImpf) you what the Syrians H758 have done H6213 (QalPerf) to us. They know H3045 (QalPerf) that we [be] hungry; H7457 therefore are they gone out H3318 (QalImpf) of the camp H4264 to hide H2247 (NiphInf) themselves in the field, H7704 saying, H559 (QalInf) When they come out H3318 (QalImpf) of the city, H5892 we shall catch H8610 (QalImpf) them alive, H2416 and get H935 (QalImpf) into the city. Therefore they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent them out to the Syrian army, saying, “Go and see.”

The people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seah° of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel,° according to Yahweh’s word.

2 Kings 7:16a 1 seah is about 7 liters or 1.9 gallons or 0.8 pecks
2 Kings 7:16b A shekel is about 10 grams or about 0.35 ounces. In this context, it was probably a silver coin weighing that much.

And the people H5971 went out, H3318 (QalImpf) and spoiled H962 (QalImpf) the tents H4264 of the Syrians. H758 So a measure H5429 of fine flour H5560 was [sold] for a shekel, H8255 and two measures H5429 of barley H8184 for a shekel, H8255 according to the word H1697 of the Lord. H3068

και εξηλθεν ο λαος και διηρπασεν την παρεμβολην συριας και εγενετο μετρον σεμιδαλεως σικλου και διμετρον κριθων σικλου κατα το ρημα κυριου

That night, Yahweh’s angel went out and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

who previously served in the king’s gate eastward. They were the gatekeepers for the camp of the children of Levi.

και εως ταυτης εν τη πυλη του βασιλεως κατ ανατολας αυται αι πυλαι των παρεμβολων υιων λευι

Shallum was the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent. Their fathers had been over Yahweh’s camp, keepers of the entry.

For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like God’s army.

και εσται εν τω ακουσαι σε την φωνην του συσσεισμου των ακρων των απιων τοτε εξελευση εις τον πολεμον οτι εξηλθεν ο θεος εμπροσθεν σου του παταξαι την παρεμβολην των αλλοφυλων

David did as God commanded him; and they attacked the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

και εβασιλευσαν οι κατοικουντες εν ιερουσαλημ τον οχοζιαν υιον αυτου τον μικρον αντ αυτου οτι παντας τους πρεσβυτερους απεκτεινεν το ληστηριον το επελθον επ αυτους οι αραβες και οι αλιμαζονεις και εβασιλευσεν οχοζιας υιος ιωραμ βασιλεως ιουδα

Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and the Levites after their divisions, every man according to his service, both the priests and the Levites, for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of Yahweh’s camp.

και εταξεν εζεκιας τας εφημεριας των ιερεων και των λευιτων και τας εφημεριας εκαστου κατα την εαυτου λειτουργιαν τοις ιερευσιν και τοις λευιταις εις την ολοκαυτωσιν και εις την θυσιαν του σωτηριου και αινειν και εξομολογεισθαι και λειτουργειν εν ταις πυλαις εν ταις αυλαις οικου κυριου

Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, the leaders, and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body° killed him there with the sword.

και απεστειλεν κυριος αγγελον και εξετριψεν παν δυνατον πολεμιστην και αρχοντα και στρατηγον εν τη παρεμβολη βασιλεως ασσουρ και απεστρεψεν μετα αισχυνης προσωπου εις την γην αυτου και ηλθεν εις οικον του θεου αυτου και των εξελθοντων εκ κοιλιας αυτου κατεβαλον αυτον εν ρομφαια

Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

Lay siege against it, build forts against it, and cast up a mound against it. Also set camps against it and plant battering rams against it all around.

Yahweh thunders his voice before his army, for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of Yahweh is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

και κυριος δωσει φωνην αυτου προ προσωπου δυναμεως αυτου οτι πολλη εστιν σφοδρα η παρεμβολη αυτου οτι ισχυρα εργα λογων αυτου διοτι μεγαλη η ημερα του κυριου μεγαλη και επιφανης σφοδρα και τις εσται ικανος αυτη

“I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.

εξαπεστειλα εις υμας θανατον εν οδω αιγυπτου και απεκτεινα εν ρομφαια τους νεανισκους υμων μετα αιχμαλωσιας ιππων σου και ανηγαγον εν πυρι τας παρεμβολας υμων εν τη οργη μου και ουδ ως επεστρεψατε προς με λεγει κυριος

A plague like this will fall on the horse, on the mule, on the camel, on the donkey, and on all the animals that will be in those camps.

And so shall be the plague H4046 of the horse, H5483 of the mule, H6505 of the camel, H1581 and of the ass, H2543 and of all the beasts H929 that shall be in these H1992 tents, H4264 as this plague. H4046
