[1] Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa. [2] The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. [3] The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers. [4] Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.”But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it. [5] When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died. [6] So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together. [7] When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them. [8] On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. [9] They stripped him and took his head and his armor, then sent into the land of the Philistines all around to carry the news to their idols and to the people. [10] They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon. [11] When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, [12] all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days. [13] So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of Yahweh’s word, which he didn’t keep, and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire, [14] and didn’t inquire of Yahweh. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

From Saul to David

[1] Now the Philistines H6430 fought H3898 (NiphPerf) against Israel; H3478 and the men H376 of Israel H3478 fled H5127 (QalImpf) from before H6440 the Philistines, H6430 and fell down H5307 (QalImpf) slain H2491§ in mount H2022 Gilboa. H1533
[2] And the Philistines H6430 followed hard H1692 (HiphImpf) after H310 Saul, H7586 and after H310 his sons; H1121 and the Philistines H6430 slew H5221 (HiphImpf) Jonathan, H3129 and Abinadab, H41§ and Malchi-shua, H4444 the sons H1121 of Saul. H7586 [3] And the battle H4421 went sore H3513 (QalImpf) against Saul, H7586 and the archers H3384 (HiphPtc)§ hit H4672 (QalImpf) him,§ and he was wounded H2342 (QalImpf) of the archers. H3384 (QalActPtc) [4] Then said H559 (QalImpf) Saul H7586 to his armourbearer, H5375 (QalActPtc) Draw H8025 (QalImpv) thy sword, H2719 and thrust H1856 (QalImpv) me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised H6189 come H935 (QalImpf) and abuse H5953 (HithPerf) me.§ But his armourbearer H5375 (QalActPtc) would H14 (QalPerf) not; for he was sore H3966 afraid. H3372 (QalPerf) So Saul H7586 took H3947 (QalImpf) a sword, H2719 and fell H5307 (QalImpf) upon it. [5] And when his armourbearer H5375 (QalActPtc) saw H7200 (QalImpf) that Saul H7586 was dead, H4191 (QalPerf) he fell H5307 (QalImpf) likewise on the sword, H2719 and died. H4191 (QalImpf) [6] So Saul H7586 died, H4191 (QalImpf) and his three H7969 sons, H1121 and all his house H1004 died H4191 (QalPerf) together. H3162 [7] And when all the men H376 of Israel H3478 that were in the valley H6010 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that they fled, H5127 (QalPerf) and that Saul H7586 and his sons H1121 were dead, H4191 (QalPerf) then they forsook H5800 (QalImpf) their cities, H5892 and fled: H5127 (QalImpf) and the Philistines H6430 came H935 (QalImpf) and dwelt H3427 (QalImpf) in them. [8] And it came to pass on the morrow, H4283 when the Philistines H6430 came H935 (QalImpf) to strip H6584 (PielInf) the slain, H2491 that they found H4672 (QalImpf) Saul H7586 and his sons H1121 fallen H5307 (QalActPtc) in mount H2022 Gilboa. H1533 [9] And when they had stripped H6584 (HiphImpf) him, they took H5375 (QalImpf) his head, H7218 and his armour, H3627 and sent H7971 (PielImpf) into the land H776 of the Philistines H6430 round about, H5439 to carry tidings H1319 (PielInf) unto their idols, H6091 and to the people. H5971 [10] And they put H7760 (QalImpf) his armour H3627 in the house H1004 of their gods, H430 and fastened H8628 (QalPerf) his head H1538 in the temple H1004 of Dagon. H1712 [11] And when all Jabesh-gilead H3003 heard H8085 (QalImpf) all that the Philistines H6430 had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Saul, H7586 [12] they arose, H6965 (QalImpf) all the valiant H2428 men, H376 and took away H5375 (QalImpf) the body H1480 of Saul, H7586 and the bodies H1480 of his sons, H1121 and brought H935 (HiphImpf) them to Jabesh, H3003 and buried H6912 (QalImpf) their bones H6106 under the oak H424 in Jabesh, H3003 and fasted H6684 (QalImpf) seven H7651 days. H3117 [13] So Saul H7586 died H4191 (QalImpf) for his transgression H4604 which he committed H4603 (QalPerf)§ against the Lord, H3068 even against the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 which he kept H8104 (QalPerf) not, and also for asking H7592 (QalInf) counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, H178 to enquire H1875 (QalInf) of it; [14] and enquired H1875 (QalPerf) not of the Lord: H3068 therefore he slew H4191 (HiphImpf) him, and turned H5437 (HiphImpf) the kingdom H4410 unto David H1732 the son H1121 of Jesse.
