[1] Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa. [2] The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. [3] The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers. [4] Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.”But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it. [5] When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died. [6] So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together. [7] When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them. [8] On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. [9] They stripped him and took his head and his armor, then sent into the land of the Philistines all around to carry the news to their idols and to the people. [10] They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon. [11] When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, [12] all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days. [13] So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of Yahweh’s word, which he didn’t keep, and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire, [14] and didn’t inquire of Yahweh. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

But his armourbearerH5375(QalActPtc) wouldH14(QalPerf) not; for he was soreH3966 afraid.H3372(QalPerf) So SaulH7586 tookH3947(QalImpf) a sword,H2719 and fellH5307(QalImpf) upon it. [5] And when his armourbearerH5375(QalActPtc) sawH7200(QalImpf) that SaulH7586 was dead,H4191(QalPerf) he fellH5307(QalImpf) likewise on the sword,H2719 and died.H4191(QalImpf) [6] So SaulH7586 died,H4191(QalImpf) and his threeH7969 sons,H1121 and all his houseH1004 diedH4191(QalPerf) together.H3162 [7] And when all the menH376 of IsraelH3478 that [were] in the valleyH6010 sawH7200(QalImpf) that they fled,H5127(QalPerf) and that SaulH7586 and his sonsH1121 were dead,H4191(QalPerf) then they forsookH5800(QalImpf) their cities,H5892 and fled:H5127(QalImpf) and the PhilistinesH6430 cameH935(QalImpf) and dweltH3427(QalImpf) in them. [8] And it came to pass on the morrow,H4283 when the PhilistinesH6430 cameH935(QalImpf) to stripH6584(PielInf) the slain,H2491 that they foundH4672(QalImpf) SaulH7586 and his sonsH1121 fallenH5307(QalActPtc) in mountH2022 Gilboa.H1533 [9] And when they had strippedH6584(HiphImpf) him, they tookH5375(QalImpf) his head,H7218 and his armour,H3627 and sentH7971(PielImpf) into the landH776 of the PhilistinesH6430 round about,H5439 to carry tidingsH1319(PielInf) unto their idols,H6091 and to the people.H5971 [10] And they putH7760(QalImpf) his armourH3627 in the houseH1004 of their gods,H430 and fastenedH8628(QalPerf) his headH1538 in the templeH1004 of Dagon.H1712 [11] And when all JabeshgileadH3003 heardH8085(QalImpf) all that the PhilistinesH6430 had doneH6213(QalPerf) to Saul,H7586 [12] They arose,H6965(QalImpf) all the valiantH2428 men,H376 and took awayH5375(QalImpf) the bodyH1480 of Saul,H7586 and the bodiesH1480 of his sons,H1121 and broughtH935(HiphImpf) them to Jabesh,H3003 and buriedH6912(QalImpf) their bonesH6106 under the oakH424 in Jabesh,H3003 and fastedH6684(QalImpf) sevenH7651 days.H3117 [13] So SaulH7586 diedH4191(QalImpf) for his transgressionH4604 which he committedH4603(QalPerf) against the Lord,H3068 [even] against the wordH1697 of the Lord,H3068 which he keptH8104(QalPerf) not, and also for askingH7592(QalInf) [counsel] of [one that had] a familiar spirit,H178 to enquireH1875(QalInf) [of it]; [14] And enquiredH1875(QalPerf) not of the Lord:H3068 therefore he slewH4191(HiphImpf) him, and turnedH5437(HiphImpf) the kingdomH4410 unto DavidH1732 the sonH1121 of Jesse.H3448
